Fame is Changing the way it manages SIC Codes In October 2011 the UK SIC 2007 codes were added to Fame. These are the official codes used by Companies House and replace the 2003 classification. Currently Fame includes both the 2003 and 2007 versions of the UK SIC codes. In early June (2012) the 2003 classifications will be removed from Fame. The 2007 classification offers more detail for companies in the IT services and related industries. Converting your codes Fame has a tool to help you convert the UK SIC 2003 codes to UK SIC 2007. You can find this in the Help menu on Fame under "TOOLS".

Library Opening Hours

We apologise for the closure of Aungier Street library last night at very short notice. This was caused by unexpected staff sickness.

The normal library opening hours will resume today, Wednesday.

We are reviewing our response to this situation in order to minimise the impact on library services in future.

The library at DIT Aungier Street will close today Tuesday 8th May at 5pm.

This is due to a staffing shortage. The nearest alternative library is at DIT Kevin Street.

The computer labs in Aungier Street will remain open this evening.

Past Exam Papers

As you are all aware, now is the busy time in the run up to exams. It is during this time that we get some FAQs concerning access to past exam papers. Below are a few tips for you:

You can access past exam papers via the library catalogue: http://library.dit.ie/

The exam papers are password protected. NOTE: it is a different password to your Student Number and Library PIN. A list of all passwords for remote access to exam papers and databases can be accessed via the exam papers page. Click on the 'usernames and passwords list' link and input your student number and Library PIN when prompted. http://library.dit.ie/screens/exams.html

Search Tips for Aungier Street Students:

Ignore the search box when searching for exam papers. Instead, click on the Recent Exam Papers link which is located just below the search box.
Click on the relevant college link e.g. if you are studying a business subject scroll down to the 'College of Business, Aungier St.: examination papers' record and click on the link.
Here you see the past papers are sorted by year. Choose the year you wish to look at.
Here you will see the past papers sorted by course code. Scroll down to find your course code and click on the link.
Exam Papers are then sorted by sessional (Christmas and Summer exams) and supplemental (repeat). Click on the relevant link.
Here you will see the subjects available in pdf form for each class year e.g. 'DT341 1 Acc-Jan.pdf' is for 1st year, 'DT341 2 French-May.pdf' is for 2nd year.
Click on the relevant subject and print or save the pdf.

Access to the England and Wales Judgements series is temporarily available until the Friday 16th December via Justis.

New to the Justis full-text legal library, the England and Wales Judgements series contains 135,000 cases from 1951 onwards, containing decisions of the Court of Appeal, along with more recent High Court material.

A total of 52 sockets were repaired at the circular laptop tables in the past week. There are still a number (apx 11) out of order and we hope to have these repaired shortly. We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the maximum number of working sockets. Please assist us by letting us know of any sockets, or other library equipment, not working.

Vogue Magazine Archive - trial

Proquest has set us up with a trial to Vogue Archive. “The Vogue Archive contains the entire run of Vogue magazine (US edition), from the first issue in 1892 to the current month, reproduced in high-resolution colour page images.

Every page, advertisement, cover and fold-out has been included. The Vogue Archive preserves the work of the world's greatest fashion designers, stylists and photographers and is a unique record of American and international fashion, culture and society from the dawn of the modern era to the present day.

This archive is an essential for Fashion, Photography, Gender studies, Design, Textiles, and Business (branding, marketing, talent management) students and researchers.

ProQuest have worked closely with Condé Nast to create separate designated searchable fields for Fashion Item (e.g. kimono, Breton jacket, scoop neckline), Person Pictured, Company/brand, Designer Name, Material (e.g. chiffon, wool, taffeta), Trend, Colour and Print (e.g. batik, gingham, Liberty).”

Need an Overview About a Case? Case Search gives you all the Key Information you need.

The people at LexisNexis have made things a little easier by moving the Digest of a case to the top of the CaseSearch document so you can quickly see what a case is about. All the existing information such as the case history and cases considered are still there, but you can now scan the Digest first for relevancy. Another time saver for the busy legal researcher!

Journals

30 leading full text journals are to be added to LexisNexis over the coming months from Bloomsbury and Cambridge University Press. This means more articles in key practice areas such as crime, European law, healthcare to name a few.

This online tool has been expanded to cover more than 1000 terms. Now it's even easier to find that legal term in the QuickFind search on your homepage or on the practice area pages.
