Hello, book chicks that still stop by the blog from time to time. I have really been trying to get back to my books for quite some time. I have been reading, just not blogging. My little one is now three and my oldest is fourteen so I am starting to have a little more me time. Hopefully, I can make the time that I want for the blog because I have definitely been missing it. Time has really gotten away from me again. I could have sworn that I had posted something this year besides Happy New Year. How rude of me! But thanks so much for still being here!

My little one will be two next month so I am guessing things are back to normal or as normal as they are going to get. I have actually found a little free time in my days-more like nights where I can read. Oh how I have missed my lovely pages.

Sadly, I found out a little too late that my domain name was due because I had not been checking my blog email and I was not on automatic renew. Whyyy? So, I lost my .com and have to deal with the blogspot.com until I can figure out how to get my domain back. Bummer, but I guess I will survive.

In the meantime, I need to catch up. What's hot, new, and a must read? Comment below so I can start my new To Be Read stack.

My Thoughts

Okay, so this is “The Book” that brought me out of my book drought. If you have been sticking with the blog (thank you by the way), you can see that I’ve been off the map A Long Time. After having my baby, I just couldn’t find the time to get any reading done. I started this book in the earlier part of the year, couldn’t get into it so I got side tracked with life. The only reason I picked it back up is because I kept hearing good reviews and the fact that a movie is being made, helped too. So here’s my two cents…

First of all, the beginning was a slow read so my attention fizzled. I could not get excited about their love story because their relationship just didn’t click for me. I could tell that there were cracks so I held on for the fireworks. Two things kept me reading: 1) the mystery-did he kill her or did she just say “screw this’ and disappear into a new life and 2) the “crazy in love” act–these two were just crazy for no reason at all and I love a character that’s not afraid to show just how crazy they are.

Usually, I have a favorite character for each book, but none for this one. With Nick and Amy, I couldn’t decide who I wanted to sympathize with or who to hate. Nick, I found so many reasons not to like him so let’s just say he was the poster child for who not to marry. Amy was too perfect. I just knew she was bipolar and Nick made it so easy for her to turn on him. I just didn’t expect her to be so thorough with her revenge. In the end, I decided to dislike them both. Both were too selfish to let go when they knew their marriage was toxic.

The author did a fantastic job with the storyline, but I couldn’t bring myself to give it a higher rating. There were good attention grabbing parts (Amy parts) but too many boring parts (Nick parts) and the ending threw me for a loop. There was no explanation, no tidy clean up, just nothing. I was left hanging. If there is a part two, I will all over it, but for now, I want more Amy and Nick…

Overall, I think the book is a good read. It’s definitely something you could kick back and relax with. Based on the mystery and suspense alone, I would recommend. I can’t wait to see the movie. Whoever is cast as Amy will have to nail it. Her performance alone will be the highlight.

I finally got a chance to go to a book signing! Yay! I don't know why, but very few authors that I am interested in, come to Memphis so I was pretty excited. I heard about it a few days before and of course I could not secure a babysitter, so I took the kiddies along. Normally, taking the boys would have been a disaster, and I would have had to leave early, but all I had to do was turn my oldest on to the goodness of Starbucks and I had no problem. Of course he spent all the money I gave him (the Double Chocolate Chip Frappucchino is his new best friend) but it kept him and his little brother quiet while I attended the signing.

The featured author was Carl Weber. Mr. Weber is a New York Times Best Selling author. His recent books include The Family Business 2, Torn Between Two Lovers, The Man In 3B-none of which I have read but are on my TBR. I HAD a few of his book on my book shelf, but my sister has confiscated those so I am still waiting to get them back.

Anyhoo, Mr Weber was so down to earth. He was very entertaining and very approachable. The gathering was intimate-mostly ladies with a few men sprinkled in. He answered questions, talked about the books, future books, and let us know a few of the books will be making television debts. I had a great time, got my books signed, and got a pix. Here are the photos of my day. I have video, but I just can't figure out how to get it from my phone to the blog. Hopefully, I will figure it out and get it uploaded...

MIA Update

Just a quick note to say hi to my readers. Unfortunately, if it's not one thing it's another. My baby is getting over this new strain of the flu. It has hit pretty hard in the Memphis, TN area. And it's been mostly small children.

He's so young that it's not a whole lot of medication that he can take so he's just been soldiering through. I've rubbed him down and slathering him up with whatever I could but he's been sick since the first part of the month. Although he hasn't had any fever lately and he has been oked to go back to daycare, he is still congested and coughing, and not 100%.

And in the mist of already feeling horrible, he just cut his first tooth! WTF you said!? Same thing I said when the dr told me what was going on. He is not even five months old yet and his tooth has broken through the gum. Slobbing, gnawing, pooping, and crying galore.

So yeah, it's been chaos around my house and not a lot of time for reading. And since he has been using me for his snot rag, I've caught the end of his sickness. I took my flu shot back in October so I didn't get the flu, but I still got sick. As close as I was to all the coughing and sneezing and in my face, I knew I was bound to come down with something. I'm a little better, probably at 70% but I'm bouncing back.

My oldest son also took the flu shot and he's been a snot rag too but he has not come down with anything yet. Hopefully it will miss him and we will feel better soon. Until then, happy reading!

My Thoughts

This Time Will Be Different is one of those books that one could easily relate to. The story is a familiar one. At one point in time, who hasn’t found themselves second guessing the possibilities of rekindling a past romance? Especially if you thought that person may have been The One. If my time had not have been so limited, I would have read this book in one setting.

I was not fond of the main character Ireland because of the way the relationship ended. In her case, I felt like she should have been going forward instead of backwards. I’m all for second chances, but only if it’s worth it. As sexy and charismatic as Jay was, he just wasn’t worth the energy.

Although the book was a little predictable at times, I still think it’s worth a read. I think I mainly wanted to read it to see what Ireland would do. I rolled my eyes and shook my head at every decision she made, but I was happy with her final decision.

Overall, I liked the story because it’s all about second chances and even though you want something bad, it’s not always good for you. And I love it when the good guy gets the girl.

About The Author

Excuse Me While I Catch Up On My Twilight Saga....

Not long ago, and like everyone else, I was in love with the Twilight series. I'm thinking that this ramped up my obsession with vampires (along with my Angel reruns-can't forget my first vampire luv).

I was introduced to the series via the movie. I had never heard of the books, but once I saw the movie, I immediately went out and copped all four. Loved Edward in the movie, but hated Bella and Kristin Stewart for her weak acting skills. BTW-I love learning about a series once it is complete so I read it back to back rather than waiting in agony for the next installment.

Anyhoo, back to hating Bella and loving Edward. After reading the first book and comparing it to the movie, I was upset that it looked low budget cause it had soo much potential. Why couldn't it have been directed by whoever did those Underworld movies? Thankfully they dismissed the chick that directed the first movie and came up with each new installment.

New Moon was better, but not a lot. Eclipse was better and got me on the band wagon again. I didn't go to the movie to see the first three movies, I waited to they were on DVD-and then I borrowed rather than buy. Breaking Dawn 1 and 2, different story. I didn't go to the movies to see 1 nor will I go for 2, but both are bookshelf worthy and deserve some of my $$$. I already have 1 and look forward to getting two.

Now if we could just get Stephanie Meyers to finish Midnight Sun, that book in Edward's point of view. From what I read, I think it would be a best seller because I liked it much more than I liked in from Bella POV. It was less whiny and probably would be more action packed.

I also wouldn't mind an update on Jake (who I am not fond of-Team Edward!!!) and Renesmee. I think that would make a hot romance novel...but it probably needs to be written by someone who isn't afraid to detail the hot smuttiness of vampire and werewolf love.

Get It Poppin Friday

Fridays are my unwind days. At 5'oclock, I call it a day, forget about the work week and concentrate on relaxing...or getting it poppin for the weekend. So, I will be posting a music video just for chillaxing (chilling and relaxing).

I find myself randomly singing this song a lot. And it never fails to remind me of Katniss from The Hunger Games. I skipped the one with the Nicki Manaj rap, Nicki is okay, but the rap just made absolutely no sense and it didn't even fit into the song.

2013 Romantic Suspense Reading Challenge

Alright, alright, alright, alright...I am going to attempt to take on some reading challenges in an effort to get my reading groove back. This is the first challenge that I have signed up for 2013 and it's hosted by The Book Vixen. I have always love romance books and I recently I have gotten hooked on mystery suspense. So this is a good way to get the best of both worlds.

I have not picked out my books yet, so as I run across them I will post them here and as I read them, I will post a link to each review. In the meantime if you'd like to sign up, here are the dets.

Reading Challenge Details:

Runs January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2013 (books read prior to 1/1/2013 do not count towards the challenge). You can join at anytime. Sign up on The Book Vixen’s blog.
The goal is to read 13 romantic suspense novels in ‘13.
Books can be any format (bound, ebook, audio).
Novellas that are at least 100 pages in length, as well as full-length novels, will count for this reading challenge.
