Sterling Silver and 18K Gold Jewelry

The unique sculptural quality of Ippolita Jewelry comes from the fact that the designer insists that every piece is made by hand. Her signature bangles are hand cast from original wax sculptures, and the open-link chains she uses in her earrings and necklaces are formed and soldered by hand as well. She is strongly influenced by fashion, yet manages to create pieces that stand the test of time. Before launching her 18k gold jewelry collection in 1999, Ippolita spent several months developing her own signature gold color.

The founder and designer of the house of Michael Zobel, who can be described as a modern cosmopolitan (born 1942 Tangier, Morocco, raised in Barcelona, Spain, an apprentice in Germany, and a jewelry designer in France), moved to Konstanz in 1968. On February 1, 2005, Michael handed the business over to Peter Schmid, and it became known as Atelier Zobel. Michael is now concentrating exclusively on the creative side of the enterprise, the design, while leaving the business side to his "new boss."

After training as a jewelry designer at the School for Design, Jewelry and Instruments, Peter Schmid completed the apprenticeship with Michael Zobel and continued working in the studio. He then went to Barcelona to "learn Japanese lacquer technology on precious metals." On his return, Peter learned everything from the master - as a goldsmith as well as a business man. For years he then accompanied Zobel to international fairs and exhibitions, and assisted him in the studio in Konstanz, until the roles could finally be exchanged.

Fused Dichroic Glass
The main characteristic of dichroic glass is that it has a transmitted color and a completely different reflected color, as certain wavelengths of light either pass through or are reflected. This causes an array of colors to be displayed, and the colors shift depending on the angle of view. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly predicted, so each piece of fused dichroic glass is unique. Over 45 colors of dichroic coatings are available to be placed on any glass substrate.
