Annette Ferdinandsen's jewelry is delicate and bold, playful and innocent, form and craft. Handmade in precious materials, her work echoes the organic beauty of the natural world. Tiny, sculpted leaves, feathers, petals and shells come to life in sterling silver and 18 Karat gold, complemented by the best quality gemstones.

Ferdinandsen's father and grandfather were model makers for renowned Danish sculptors. Annette naturally continued the heritage by attending the Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied sculpture and light metals. Her early work led her to metal and bronze casting and then to 18 Karat gold and sterling silver on a wearable scale.

Influenced by her exposure to Scandinavian design, elegance and simplicity is her aesthetic. In her jewelry, Annette embraces the essences of the seasons and cycles of nature. Her studio is filled with specimens which she uses for inspiration. Her background in sculpture has influenced how important form is in her work... subtles curves and movements are signatures of her pieces.

Annette Ferdinandsen now lives with her family and works from upstate New York.

Irene Neuwirth

Fine Jewelry Designers
At the age of 23 Carl Dau began training as a goldsmith. In 1972 immediately after earning his master goldsmith's degree at the Hanau State Academy and being awarded a gifted students' educational grant, he went to Berlin to complete further studies at the Berlin College of Fine Arts. Since 1996, Dau has worked with his team in his studio in Berlin.

Dau strongly influenced the development of modern jewelry design with his minimalist creations. Best known for mathematical precision combined with classic form, Carl Dau creates jewelry for men and women in stainless steel, 18 Karat gold, sterling silver and titanium. His jewelry lines often reveal obvious affinities with the sculpture created by Donald Judd, Richard Serra and other Minimalist artists.

Stainless steel, sometimes combined with precious metals, plays a central role in his minimalist pieces which have been honored with several state prizes. Because of their form, material and function, Carl Dau's pieces also appeal to men. Since the beginning of the new millennium, his pieces increasingly feature colored surfaces and diamonds.

A Peace Treaty

Handmade Jewelry Designers
Founded in 2008 by Pakistani Muslim, Farah Malik, and Libyan Jew, Dana Arbib, A Peace Treaty is inspired by the hand-crafting cultures of the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Africa. Combining Arbib's background in design and Malik's marketing experience, A Peace Treaty not only offers unique, handcrafted products but also creates employment for skilled artisans working in places of socio-economic strife.

Arbib and Malik met while living in Rome, and discovered that they shared both a love of high fashion and a desire to increase awareness of ancient, disappearing crafting traditions. Each season, A Peace Treaty travels to a particular region and seeks out local artisans to design limited edition pieces in unique colorways. Each jewelry collection resuscitates ancient handmade textile and metalsmithing techniques that are at risk of extinction.

Working with craftspeople in eight countries and injecting life and trade back into local economies, A Peace Treaty employs artisans and invests in income-generating opportunities for out-of-work artists, and disabled and widowed women, while elevating their products to the level of high design for an exclusive and international fashion audience.

Brooke Gregson

Brooke Gregson's organic, personal approach to jewelry is echoed in her earthy designs with a modern touch. Her passion for fine metals and precious stones was inspired by her father's vast collection of fine jewelry. An artist, textile designer and jeweler, Gregson is continually creating new pieces and experimenting with different combinations of organic materials.
Within this environment, her perspective started to shift from modeling to design. She left New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising( FIDM) in Los Angeles, where she discovered a God-given talent that transformed her life.

14K Gold Hematite Filigree Bangle
• Cushion cut black onyx cubic zirconia.
• 14K gold plated and hematite bonded.
• Width: approx 1 1/2 inches.
$79

After being exposed to a whole new world of metals, textures and gemstones, Courtney Kaye's fervent desire to design jewelry came to the forefront. After graduating from FIDM, she moved back to New York and worked for the renowned designer Alexis Bittar. Under Bittar's guidance, her passion quickly became a reality.

Courtney Kaye's collections consist of bold contrasts, feminine silhouettes and sleek design. Though some of Kaye's jewelry is inspired by architecture, loosely structured textures and organic curves give each piece pure beauty in the most simple and effortless way; it is the hallmark of the designer's three collections: Variance, Interlace and Chromatic.

• Variance was designed using multiple techniques to create striking contrasts. These techniques include two tone plating of dark (hematite) and light (gold) and a hammered texture rich in shape, width and depth. Hammered textures, black aqua crystals and bold frames offer an edgy aesthetic.

• Interlace's filigree pattern has become its defining element. With vine-like curves bridging its hematite frames, Interlace's striking shapes are feminine and sexy, emitting a confidence that is anything but timid.

• Chromatic is a timeless, easy-to-wear line that offers gemstones in 14 Karat gold. Wanting to add color without losing the edge of Courtney Kaye, the designer looked to plum agate. The natural striations found in plum agate gemstones add a new depth of color to the pieces.

Dean Davidson

After six seasons of designing alongside internationally known fashion designer Paul Hardy, Dean Davidson's aesthetic has grown softer with a greater attentiveness towards femininity and subtle everyday beauty. Moving forward, Davidson's ultimate goal is to continue expanding his creativity, and to reinvest in the people and cultures from which he draws his inspiration and passion.
Einat Agassi and Tamar Harel-Klein, the artists behind Agas and Tamar Jewelry, find inspiration in the past to design thoroughly modern jewels. The influence on their very contemporary sensibilities can be seen in the textural finishes they impart to gold and sterling silver shapes. The designs are then handmade by a small staff of silversmiths in their Tel Aviv studio.
Founded in 1998, Agas and Tamar - meaning 'Pear' and 'Date' in Hebrew - is deeply inspired by nature and ancient cultures - resulting in a clean, unpretentious line of jewelry with a deep connection to its origins. Using raw and natural materials such as 14K gold, sterling silver, unique stones and antique Roman and Byzantine coins, the pieces are handcrafted with meticulous craftsmanship.

Each piece of jewelry undergoes a painstaking creation process in which every minute detail is scrutinized - from design, to the choice of raw materials and to the final crafting. Einat and Tamar believe that their unique design methods are the source of their collections' distinctiveness.

Coralia Leets

Fashion Jewelry Designers

Coralia Leets Jewelry for 2012 consists of the Riveria and Mykonos Collections which are made with semiprecious stones, colored quartz and drusy. The 22 Karat gold vermeil has 2.5 microns of gold, which provides a rich and sophisticated look that is timeless and can be passed down for generations. The simplicity of the look and vibrant colors has made Coralia Leets jewelry distinctive in the fashion jewelry market.

• 22K yellow gold vermeil.
• French wires.

Leets puts out two to three jewelry collections a year, each of which is comprised of roughly 675 pieces. The collections are made using hand selected stones, primarily from Brazil. The stones are then set in 22K gold vermeil. This unique technique helps keep the designs at her target price point, therefore allowing her to reach a broader customer base.

Fashion jewelry designer Coralia Leets opened her first namesake boutique in 2001 in Winter Park, Florida. Originally, each piece was handmade my local artisans; however, with business booming, Coralia was soon forced to find other manufacturing options that could turn out quality craftsmanship at a higher capacity and a reasonable price. Leets ended up settling on Turkey as the ideal manufacturing environment for her growing jewelry brand.

Leets was born in Nicaragua and moved to the US in 1987 after graduating with a degree in Public Relations and Business Administration. Coralia Leets Jewelry Design was launched to the US Market in 2001 then to the European Market in 2005. In 2009 she started selling to Bloomingdales, as well as many specialty stores throughout the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Alberian & Aulde

Fine Jewelry Designers
Mannin was founded in 2008 by fine jewelry designer Suzanne Donegan. Born in Ireland, Suzanne has a background in jewelry and the decorative arts. Her design philosophy stems from a perpetual love of gold and from her belief that jewelry is an integral part of personal identity. Mannin is named after the land parcel in Ireland where her paternal grandmother was raised. The name represents authenticity and heritage.

The craftsmanship that goes into each piece is unparalleled, and this unique aspect makes each piece a true work of art. Starting in the refinery and ending up in the hands of the customer, each piece is made to order and no one will be exactly like the rest. Their artisans borrow from traditional methods of their craft in developing the jewelry, making the pieces long-lasting and ensuring quality.

The combination of timeless design with sustainable principles is rare in today's luxury marketplace. All Mannin jewelry is locally made in Los Angeles, California, where their highly skilled metalsmiths and artisans work and live. They are proud to source their gold from a respected and innovative American refinery that produces 100% clean recycled gold. Celebrity clients include Claire Danes, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Courtney Cox, Debra Messing and Jennifer Aniston.

Rebecca Overmann

Rebecca Overmann's collections are expressed with clarity, simplicity and elegance. Sculpted shapes and kinetic lines reveal a graceful structure balanced by movement. Necklaces, earrings and rings are created in hand-forged 14K and 18K gold, oxidized sterling silver and diamonds. In her new collection Overmann is making a bold statement in sterling, copper and enamel. Her one of a kind creations combine the simple and the daring, while utilizing a variety of materials and techniques. Inspiration for her recent work comes from the ordinary: cast off bits of metal, the patina of tarnished copper and vibrant pieces of antique glass. The unpredictability of enameling ensures that no two pieces are alike.

This fine jewelry designer graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design and is an accomplished metalsmith. She has been making jewelry for over 15 years and introduced her first collection of enamel in 1999. Subsequent collections in 18K gold, silver and diamonds are available at fine galleries and boutiques across the county. Her line of engagement rings and wedding bands are all hand-carved, making each one slightly different and unique.

Annoushka

Fine Jewelry Designers
Carla Caruso Jewelry is handmade in a small studio outside Northampton, Massachusetts. Her goal is simplicity: to distill an idea to its essence and create timeless jewelry that wears beautifully. Though Caruso graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in glass sculpture, she started experimenting with metalsmithing, incorporating glass jewelry into her work, and was hooked. Eventually, she abandoned glass altogether to pursue jewelry.

In 2001, Caruso launched her own line of fine jewelry, incorporating motifs from nature, like leaves and modern yet organic shapes. "The Willow rings were one of my first designs and they continue to be one of my bestsellers and a classic example of my work. Likewise, my original Blade of Grass pieces (the cuff, hoop earrings and bands) have expanded into current designs like the Double Leaf collection and several engagement and wedding rings."

For ten years Carla made jewelry in a converted garage behind the house they rented outside Northampton. Now she works in a studio above her garage, making every piece by hand. Her collection has evolved over the years but the essence remains the same: handmade jewelry that wears beautifully. Christina Ricci, Jodie Foster, Christy Turlington and Mary Tyler Moore are wearing Carla's jewelry.

Suhani Pittie

Handmade Jewelry Designers
Frederic Sage is not your typical designer. Although he graduated with a degree in the sciences, Frederic later realized his true interests and passion were in design and color. Using a variety of uniquely cut gemstones and fine diamonds set in the fine 18K gold, Sage combines influences he gained while living in Europe with his personal visions of color, design and style to create contemporary jewelry for the modern woman.
Frederic Sage began his career creating designs for a leading textile manufacturer where he perfected his eye for color and pattern, designing prints that were distributed worldwide. Eventually, with guidance from his father, an importer of precious gems, Sage began to pursue his childhood dream of designing and creating fine jewelry.

Sage continued his education by studying Art History and Textile Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. With an eye for color, Sage created designs that were distributed not only in America, but also in Europe and other nations. During that time, he traveled to more than fifty countries, and lived in cities such as Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris and Milan.

Peter Lam
