PK::James Hall is a phenomenal pioneer in the Gospel game and he has inspired many choirs across the world. Wess Morgan has one of the most touching testimonies in the country. Both of these guys are up for Stellar Award Nominations.

DIVINE::How often will the Friday Night Live events be held?
PK::Friday Night Live is an annual event and this is the 3rd year. I believe that it will continue for years to come.

DIVINE::Will fans be able to purchase a DVD/CD that will capture the lineup of phenomenal singers who will perform at the Friday Night Live event?
PK::Yes, fans will be able to purchase a copy of the DVD.

DIVINE::What other activities will take place during this event?
PK::There will be many activities/events going on this weekend. The Stellar Awards are a big deal in the Christian/Gospel community. This is a prime weekend for Gospel Promoters to show out and show our skills of event planning. I have tons of parties and events planned this weekend.

DIVINE::What other events does your ministry, Preacher Kid Production, have in store for 2012?
PK::For 2012 we will be hosting our Annual Christian All White Party and I'm so excited. I also have tons of great concerts planned throughout the year.

CW:: Memphis Celebrates Gospel is a concert geared towards promoting artists and talent in the Memphis and surrounding areas. Although we're highlighting Memphis artists, we're not limited to Memphis artists only. Eventually, we would like to bring in national artists to participate in this celebration. Our main objective is to celebrate gospel music, all forms.

DIVINE::Who are some of the headliners at this exciting event?
CW::Some of the featured guests are Memphis' own: Cedric King and the King Sisters, Vincent Tharpe and Kenosis, Lisa Knowles, Michelle Prather, Supa Mario, Pastor Linwood Dillard and The Voices of Citadel, Melrose Baptist Church and many others!



DIVINE::Why did you develop the Memphis Celebrates Gospel event?                      CW::Memphis Celebrates Gospel was a vision God gave me to celebrate gospel music. The goal is to bring all types of genres together, under one roof, and celebrate the gospel music.It doesn't matter what form, the goal is to celebrate the talent God has given artists to express their God-given talent. This night is designed to celebrate the gifts and the music!

DIVINE::Why are events such as Memphis Celebrates Gospel so important to the Gospel community? to Memphis?
CW::Celebrating gospel on a whole, is important because we're in a day and time when it's not politically correct to speak or sing about the Gospel. So, everytime we get an opportunity, we should celebrate the Gospel of Jesus of Christ through the expression of music.I think it's especially important to Memphis because we have a lot of talent here in this city, and it's just good when we can come together and celebrate each other, and not be envious, or jealous, but rather, use the gifts God has blessed this city with and come together and represent Memphis all under one roof!

DIVINE::You named some of Gospel's greatest singers as well as some up and coming artists who will be performing at the event, what is it about their style of singing that will make this event memorable?
CW::I think each artist has their own unique gift that God has given them. When they operate in that gift, it becomes a blessing to the body of Christ. Such as, the smooth, soulful sounds of Lisa Knowles, and the the Church sound of Michelle Prather, who will take you right to chhuuuuch, like my grandma used to say. Also, the quartet sounds of Cedric King and the King Sisters appeal to those who love quartet singing. So, when you take all of these talents and put them together, you're setting up for a Gospel Explosion!! one that will be remembered.

CW::We're also honoring different people who have contributed to the Gospel music industry and the Kingdom as a whole. We will honor Tracy Bethea, 95.7 Hallelujah Radio Personality, for her contribution to gospel music. Also, Pastor Ricky Floyd for his contribution to Kingdom ministry, service, and the plethora of ministries that Floyd's church offers in the community. Lastly, we will pay honor to Barron McGlothlin, booking manager for Perfection. Oftentimes, we give credit to the artist, but leave out the managers and booking agents who work tirelessly to help the artist reach their potential.

DIVINE::What other events does your ministry, Kingdom Shows, have in store for 2012?
CW::We're expecting great things in 2012, we're still looking forward to hosting our Fall edition of The GospeLounge, a Christian networking set. Also, we have our Heart of Worship 2012 event and we're planning a special Easter Concert. Needless to say, my wonderful staff & I are extremely excited about the great things we're planning for 2012!

DIVINE::Why should people attend the 2011 Something She Can Feel Relationship Conference taking place this weekend October 28 & 29?

TM::This conference provides a great avenue for individuals to define or redefine what is considered to be a healthy relationship. Our life is a sum of the people we know, the experiences we have and the information that we receive. The conference provides an opportunity to meet and interact with new people with fresh perspectives, have an experience that will be a blessing to your life and the lives around and to take in some information from some very powerful and successful speakers, whether single, engaged or married. We will also have lots of fun an laughs together.

DIVINE::What made you create the Something She Can Feel Relationship Conference?

TM::The reason I felt that this conference was so important is because I have heard a lot of spiritual answers and reasons for how and why relationships should work but I have not often heard anyone deal with marriage outside of just an institution of “Legal Sex” that frees you from guilt. I wanted to help people establish some sense of purpose for every relationship in their lives so they have a better chance at picking the right partner that goes with their overall purpose. The Bible tells us that where there is no vision, people will perish. We see this with the divorce rate even in the church being 52% - 55%. I wanted to deal with the practical side of marriage and relationships and allow individuals an opportunity to deal with some of the issues that they are afraid to talk about or even expose in church.

DIVINE::Why are healthy relationships so important?

TM::Healthy relationships have the propensity to provide confidence and drive in every other area of a person’s life. Notice that when people struggle in their relationships, it bleeds over into work relationship issues, excessive spending on drinks or a means of finding fulfillment somewhere else. It eventually induces stress and discomfort which makes life a little more difficult than it should be. A healthy relationship gives you a better chance at being successful in your own life and to be a blessing to the lives of others.

DIVINE::What can we learn from bad relationships?

TM::Bad relationship can help you learn about yourself and teach you what you do want in a relationship. The one thing it should not do is make an individual become bitter and give up on the hope of good healthy relationships. Love always hopes, love always trust and love keeps no records of wrong. The minute a person stops trusting, stop hoping for the best and keeping records of every wrong, then it is at that moment that they have allowed someone to take away their ability to love and we can’t let that happen.

DIVINE::You have also created a teen conference, what was your motivation behind
creating this component of the conference?

TM::I think it is so important to help our youth define and choose health relationships early in life. We are going to spend time talking about teen dating and college transition. Instead of telling them not to date, we want to teach them how to date.

DIVINE::What makes you an expert on the topic of relationships?

TM::I don’t consider myself an expert. I am just a student of life and have a deep love for people. There are things that I have taken in over the past few years of teaching relationship conferences and hosting a radio talk show. I decided to share my findings in my new book, Something She Can Feel. I believe that it will truly be a blessing to many.

DIVINE::Your newly released book is all about relationships, what do readers have to look forward to in your book?

TM::This book goes into great detail about the Biblical and practical understandings surrounding the emotional needs of women. It provides men with insight on this topic and provides women with a means to articulate their emotional needs in ways that only men can comprehend. It is truly a great book and the feedback has been phenomenal. I am looking forward to the outcome of the Relationship Conference, further impact of the book and what they both will do for the lives of believers.

DIVINE:: What was the inspiration for the first single of this year " You've Been Waiting"?
Easop:: The inspiration for my first single, "You've Been Waiting" was for for fans who had been waiting on something new from me. It was a song addressed directly to them. In the song, I go into what my style is about and it also serves as an introduction to new listeners.

DIVINE:: How did you come up with the newest single title "How I Do It"?
Easop:: The title for my newest single, "How I Do It" seemed appropriate because I wanted to let people know that I'm different with how I share my faith in my music. The way I write songs is unique and so is my delivery so... this is, "How I Do It". Diversity in music is important. People like different styles of music, so it's important to be yourself and not try to be like somebody else because you think their style is hot or because you think it's what people will like. GOD created all of us in our own unique way.

DIVINE:: Who/What is your biggest inspiration?
Easop:: I've had a lot of inspiration over the years. I'll have to start with Jesus, of course. His ministry was so unconventional. To the point where he upset the religious establishment at that time. My grandmother, who made sure I was in church no matter what, was a huge inspiration as well. Once I decided to go all out for Jesus, and stop rapping secular, there were a few artists who inspired me: Gospel Gangstaz, T-Bone, Lil Raskul, etc. Also, my neighborhood inspired me to do better so I could give something back in the form of my music.

DIVINE:: How have you grown as an artist?
Easop:: I've grown as an artist because I'm willing to take more chances creatively when I write songs. My personal opinion is we as artists are sometimes afraid to step outside of our boxes to talk about certain topics or our own personal failures, struggles, shortcomings, etc., for fear of what someone might think or say about us in the body. It's just about being transparent and encouraging somebody else that if I made it through you can too. Also, as a hip-hop artist, I try and make sure when I write songs now, I write them from the perspective of the listener who maybe isn't thinking about church or doesn't know the first thing about the Bible. Jesus made it a point to relate to His audience and so I've grown to make sure I do the same in my songs even more so than before.

DIVINE::What is the title of your upcoming album and when will it be released ?
Easop:: The title of my upcoming album is "Back For The First Time". I'm not a new artist, but I haven't released an album in so long there are a lot of people still unfamiliar with me. I'm looking at the winter or Spring of 2012.

DIVINE::What can your fans expect from your new album ?
Easop:: Fans can expect a diverse mix of music and styles but the same aggressive flow and delivery. They can expect me to share my faith in a way that relates directly to the streets in hopes of someone opening their mind and heart to the gospel story. They can also expect to hear personal stories of struggle and failure but also of personal redemption and victory.

DIVINE::What other projects do you have up your sleeves?
Easop:: I'm currently working on a mixtape called, "Street Gospel". It will be a seven song mixtape given away to fans with a free download. Fans can look for it to be available sometime at the end of July or early August. It will be available on my website http://www.easopmusic.com/. Also, I will be working on several video projects and a documentary film about FAITH in the hood. People can just expect to hear a lot from me in the coming months as I endeavor to be a light in a dark world.

DIVINE:: What can you share about Always N2U Designs?
Liz: Always N2U Designs was started from a desire to offer unique & quality merchandise. Most women do not like arriving some place to find someone else with the same handbag or accessories. We as women like to be unique, but we all know that when you think of unique it may be equivalent to 'expensive'. Always N2U Designs allows our clients the ability to be unique without breaking the bank.

DIVINE::Who/What motivates you?

Liz: I'm motivated by anyone who is striving for excellence. I consciously spend time with people who aren't looking to be mediocre. I feel that it's important to surround myself with people who challenge me to continuously raise the bar.

DIVINE::What is your best fashion advice?

Liz: When it comes to fashion it’s important to be true to yourself. Find the handbag or accessories that compliment you. You can follow a trend, but be sure that you’re not compromising your style.

DIVINE::Who is your Favorite Designer? Why?
Liz: To be honest, I don’t have a favorite designer. I’m attracted to clothing & accessories that enhance my eclectic style. I’ll wear a tee, short jacket, frayed jeans, heels & hat. Add those bold accessories with a drop dead handbag & I’m my favorite designer!

DIVINE::What accessory can you not live without? Why?
Liz: Rings are a necessity. In my mind a ring completes the look that you’re setting out to achieve. There are so many trendy & chic rings that you can’t go wrong by adding them. Rings can have fur hanging off of them, they can twirl when you move or one ring could be large as two of your fingers (those are the kind that I tend to wear).

DIVINE::What can guests expect from the Spring/Summer Fashion Explosion 2011?
Liz: Guests can expect to see a full show with top of the line merchandise. We’ll have handbags, accessories, shoes & hats modeled by the professionals of Reflections Modeling Agency. We are excited because for this show we’ve chosen some new designers who have unbelievable lines.

DIVINE::Who/What is your biggest inspiration?

Sheri: Oprah Winfrey. She prides her life on making sure other people experience the best in their lives. I believe that someone who is a true inspiration will encourage you to see the gift that already exists within you.

DIVINE::What was it like working with Donald Lawrence?

Sheri: He is the greatest teacher that I've ever had. I don't make any moves to this day without him. He's been an extension of a father to me. He won't stop until he sees you do better than him. Everything that we've (Tri-City Singers) all aspired to do, he goes to bat for each and every one of us. He looks out for everyone and he wants to make sure we all do well. In short, Donald Lawrence is the epitome of a great leader.

DIVINE::Are there songs from your time with the Tri-City Singers and your time in the duo-group Ted & Sheri that you still sing now as a solo artist?
Sheri: Yes. I love to sing Encourage Yourself, Come Ye Disconsolate, although I wouldn't dare sing that great song without Ted, and also The Best Is Yet To Come.

DIVINE::What makes Sheri Jones-Moffet unique?
Sheri:Not just that I have a musical gift but my ability to help people relate to God. People want to be connected to something that feels real and right. When I open my mouth to speak/sing, people can receive God and it's a genuine experience.

DIVINE::What's the most rewarding part of your job?
Sheri: Watching people transform and change their minds. I love how God uses me as a conduit to bring that awareness to people. I love witnessing the awakening in people when they find truth in what I've said or in what I sing.

Sheri: My favorite song changes from day to day but I will say I love "Not Too Late To Dream".

DIVINE:: How does it feel to be honored by the Memphis & Shelby County Music Commission?
Sheri: I'm reminded of the scripture that says, "A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family" (Mark 6:4). Many times it's hard to be appreciated where you've come from so it always feels good when you can put your footprint in the world and still receive honor at home. It also feels good to motivate others who see what you're doing and suddenly they have more energy to follow their dreams. Lastly, I love having the ability to make other people in my hometown look good. We are all winners!

Sheri: I'm in the early stage of writing a book and I'm working on a series of Master Classes for those who are in the beginning of who they are to become. I'm passionate about sharing what I've learned with those who need it most.

DIVINE::What drew you to the role of "Mac" in The Grace Card Movie?

MJ::Every serious actor longs for that deep, intense, challenging role. One where the character has hidden demons that he’s battling. And a story with obstacle after obstacle makes it even more inviting. I found all of that and more in this role.

DIVINE::What can those who haven't seen the movie expect?
MJ::To be treated to surprise twists, edgy, gritty, real dialogue, and a powerful ending that is causing folks to simultaneously applaud, cry, and give a standing ovation…I have also seen many audiences so emotionally worn out by the time the film reaches it’s surprising climax, that they sit there through the entire ending credits, almost not believing what they just experienced.

DIVINE::What course of action do you desire for people after they see the movie?
MJ::Tell other. Tell others. Tell others. SONY will keep this movie in theaters as long as people are paying to see it. And also, BRING your unchurched friends and neighbors. This film will entertain them with a purpose.

DIVINE::How do you think The Grace Card Movie will impact people in the City of Memphis (where it was filmed) and cities like Memphis?
MJ::The wonderful people of Memphis have embraced this film like none other. I sincerely think “The Grace Card” will be a big part in healing the racial divide and other problems that have plagued this awesome city for so many years.

DIVINE::Give an example of GRACE that you've experienced in your own life.
MJ::When God reached down and picked me up out of a horrible and sure road to destruction and revealed his Son to me--causing me to embrace the salvation and new direction and purpose He has for me. God has given me back everything and more that the enemy destroyed. In a wife, a family, a career, and most importantly in eternity. God truly has the best interest in mind for every single person on the planet, if they will just reach out to Him.

DIVINE::What advice would you give to an aspiring actor?
MJ::Don’t do it!!!! LOL! Seriously, if I can talk someone out of going to Hollywood to pursue acting, than they were never meant to be an actor anyway. Actors, TRUE actors, are born to act. We MUST act. And our lives are not entirely fulfilled until or unless we act in some capacity.

But one thing I will say is, you must study. You must learn the techniques. “Natural” abilty will only get you so far. There are many things that you cannot have intuition about, they must be learned. I studied in LA for over 5 years, and I am still learning.

DIVINE::What was it like working with Louis Gossett,Jr.?
MJ::I actually had no person to person scene with Mr. Gossett, but I met him and he truly is a professional and a gentleman.

DIVINE::Which co-star did you glean the most from? How so?
MJ::Michael Higgenbottom, my co-star who plays the black policeman in the movie. We were instant friends and we only grew closer on the set. His acting style actually complimented mine and made me better. He’s a great friend. We talk on the phone often several times a week.

DIVINE::What other exciting projects do you have in the works?
MJ::As a stand up Comedian, I am working on a new video with my 13 year old Comedian son, Dustin. I hope to produce a live concert and sell it in stores.

As an actor, I am hoping the exposure and reviews from my performance in “The Grace Card” movie will generate interest from a solid acting agency in LA. I want to work full time as an actor.

DIVINE::You've written your first book, how does that feel?
JH::I am excited, relieved, and anxious. This is my first novel but it took me several years to complete it. I had to get serious about it and truly take it in the direction that God wanted me to head. I’m excited about what He has been able to produce through me but relieved that it is finally finished. I am anxious to have it released to the public and receive everyone’s feedback. So far it has been positive.

DIVINE::What can readers expect from Someday?
JH::Someday is an inspirational romance about a woman named Tina “Tee” Long who is waiting on God to send her a good man. DIVINE::What makes your new book unique?
JH::I wrote it and there is no one in the world like me. (just kidding!) One of the things that makes my book different from others is that it explores the benefits of celibacy and why God created sex for the marriage bed in an interesting and entertaining way. It even gives some insight into the female anatomy and why the average woman is not wired to easily give herself to multiple men. I also tried to realistically present the challenges that can come with living a celibate life. I often read books with celibate characters but they don’t delve into why they became celibate and how it has helped them. God has a reason for wanting us to flee from sexual immorality. And for those who just can’t seem to take that step or they are struggling, it talks about why you should at least be selective about who you share your body with. You are precious!

I really tried to convey God’s love and why He wants us to live for him. Many people think that being saved means you are no longer allowed to have fun. That is so not true. God wants to protect you, not prohibit you.

DIVINE::Name some writers who have had a big influence on you and your writing style.
JH::I can’t say that any one person has had a BIG influence on me. I read several different authors. Over the past few months my reading list has consisted of books by William P. Young, Anita Diamant, Latrivia Nelson, Marcus Matthews, Summer Owens, Victor McGlothin, Victoria Christopher Murray, DiShan Washington, and Darrien Lee. Of course I am a huge fan of the genre of urban Christian fiction. It has evolved considerable over the past few years. It’s more realistic, giving insight into the highs and lows of our lives and illustrating that none of us are perfect. We are actually quite flawed. We are all here because of God’s never ending grace.

DIVINE::What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
JH::Write what’s in your heart. So often we do what’s popular in order to make money but, no matter who you are or what walk of life you come from, there are people who can relate to you and will enjoy your writing. I also say draw from your experiences and the experiences of those around you. We all have an interesting story to tell.

DIVINE::Who/what drives Jae? What motivates you to make a difference in this world?
JH::My family has had the biggest impact on my life. As a child I was taught two things: 1) always put your best foot forward and 2) to whom much is given, much is required. I recognize that I have been tremendously blessed in the simplest of ways. I have breath in my body, activity of my limbs, I am capable of intellectual thought, I have amazing family and friends and a job that I love. I am by no means financially wealthy but I still consider myself rich. Therefore, it is my God-given charge to use my talents to enrich the lives of others. I have developed a passion for motivating others to be the best they can be by working hard to accomplish their goals. Life is a gift. Live it to the fullest!

DIVINE::What other exciting projects do you have in the works?
JH::This is the first of several books from the I’m A Good Woman series. “Someday” is a trilogy and I hope to release the second novel, “Someday, Too,” during the summer of 2011 and the last in 2012. I am also writing an e-book of short stories called “Five Things Every Good Woman Should Know.” In addition to the books, I am still offering motivation for women online at http://www.imagoodwoman.com/. DIVINE::Tell me about Milestone Motivation and what makes it unique?

Derrick:: Milestone Motivation is a marketplace ministry founded in 2009 by my identical twin brother Darrayl and I. Our focus is improving personal performance and corporate productivity by utilizing spiritual gifts. What we noticed in our former corporate careers as a sales professional and as an executive is that the lion's share of workers are dis-engaged in their jobs (approximately 75%; source Gallop 2002). This dis-engagement leads to burnout, frustration and ineffectiveness. The financial results of this dis-engagement is an overall loss in productivity to US corporation to the tune of $350 Billion annually.

What makes us unique is that we help people discover and utilize the gifts they have inside of themselves to improve their personal performance. As a former executive who was responsible for improving productivity every year the most effective way to achieve this goal is for your people to get better at what they do. The opposite spectrum to the Gallop study of 2002 is that the small percentage of workers that enjoyed their jobs and were creative; have command of their gifts and talents and they utilized them daily at work. We call them the "Superhuman Performers." Milestone believes that every individual is motivated, but it's the Milestone Motivation that will find and utilize what you already have inside of yourself to achieve Superhuman Performance and eliminate burnout, frustration and ineffectiveness at work within one year.

DIVINE::Who/What motivates The Dynamic Duo?

Derrick::There are several things that motivate us, but the most glaring is that most people don't enjoy what they do to earn a living. This simple fact leads to the burn-out, frustration and ineffectiveness we mentioned earlier. We are convinced by our own experiences, research and interviews with successful executives, entrepreneurs, celebrities and faith based leaders that this trend can shift when workers recognize what they already have inside themselves.

Another motivator is helping people not make the same mistakes we made. Case in point; chasing the American dream. I've had all the comforts of the so-called American dream and at the end of the day I was asking myself there has to be more to life than having a bunch of degrees, big houses, cars and a bank account. What I do now to help others has brought me more joy and growth opportunities in one year than the previous 37.

DIVINE::What your best advice about achieving success?

Derrick::One of the least understood principles for success, but most vital is that your God given gift will make room for you. What you were designed to be known for is your gift. It is in exercising this gift that you will find real fulfillment, purpose and contentment in your work. The same way Pharaoh appreciated the gift of Joseph is the identical appreciation workers will receive when they bring their gifts to work with them. To assist workers understand the gifts they have inside of themselves we created the Milestone Marketplace Gift Assessment. The assessment identifies 14 Spiritual Gifts that are pertinent to the marketplace. DIVINE::Who is your favorite Superhuman Performer? Why?

Derrick::I would say I have two favorite Superhuman Performers. The business example would be Peter J. Daniels and church example would be Pastor Sunday Adelaja. Both individuals came from extreme humble beginnings. Peter J. Daniels was an illiterate brick layer at the age of 26, but was obedient to God's word and used the gift planted in him that ultimately positions to give away more money in a lifetime than any other human being.

Pastor Sunday Adelaja is a Nigerian born leader in Ukraine and for four years no one showed up to his church until he also utilized the gift of Helps and now he has the largest church is Eastern Europe. What also makes them my favorite is that they travel the globe sharing their knowledge to the world to benefit mankind. The gestures of both men motivated us to create products akin to our book "Superhuman Performance and Superhuman Performance II" to share what we learned with the world so that people understand the power of what God has put inside of them.

DIVINE::What success tool could you not live without? Why?

Derrick:: The success tool I couldn't live without would be having a coach. If Tiger Woods needs a golf coach to improve his performance; then workers need a workplace coach to improve their performance. Personally, I have a business coach, a speaking coach, a PR coach and a Biblical Entrepreneurship coach. This investment has saved us thousands of dollars, generated multi-million dollar ideas and accelerated our business model to provide immediate value to our customers. However, we also recognize that securing a coach maybe out of the financial grasp of some workers. As a result, we have created a self-study program "Make Room In Your Life...Now! to allow workers to begin to realize the power of their spiritual gifts with a nominal investment.

DIVINE::Tell me about your new collection of books? What can readers expect?

Derrick::Our book collection include Superhuman Performance and Superhuman Performance II: Utilizing Your Gifts to Perform at Extraordinary Levels. In this series, our readers will benefit from world-wide research of successful executives, entrepreneurs, celebrities and faith based leaders. What we found is that the industries most successful know their Gifts and put them into practice each day in their life. To easily digest the thousands of hours of research and hundreds of interviews, we split the book into two digestible smaller works.

Superhuman Performance teaches us the Gifts of Administration, Craftsmanship, Discernment, Encouragement, Faith, Giving, and Helps/Service.

Superhuman Performance II continues the discussion by teaching us the Gifts of Hospitality, Knowledge, Leadership, Mercy/Compassion, Teaching, Wisdom and Writing.

After reading this revolutionary series, workers and corporations alike will have learned the key concept to achieve peak performance from each individual in the marketplace. 2010:: The Year of DIVINE Order...2011::The Year of DIVINE Revelation

2010 was truly the Year of DIVINE Order. We were blessed to launch in a new city in the midst of an economic downfall and we were able to defy all odds that PRINT magazines were becoming obsolete. Not only did we print a high quality magazine in two cities but we also increased our circulation from 1,500 to 20,000 copies. Our staff grew to accomodate our launch to Nashville so I'm proud to introduce our new Nashville Regional Editor, Talene Anderson. Talene has been an awesome addition to the staff and she is a truly gifted and talented young woman. I'd also like to thank my Memphis Regional Editor, Dr. Nieika Parks for her hard work and spirit of excellence. Nieika helps to guide the editorial direction of DIVINE and has served as a wonderful support system for the past 3 1/2 years. I'm truly grateful for my Editorial team as well as my awesome Director of Photography Courtney Long , my Creative Director Tiffany Lambert , my Advisory Board members who work behind the scenes & the members of my Street Team who help to distribute & spread the word about DIVINE. In 2011, we're expecting to do even more and I believe that God will continue to use DIVINE Magazine to impact people across the nation!!!

BEAUTY SESSIONS/FELLAS NIGHT OUT EVENTS
We held our 3rd Annual BEAUTY SESSIONS event for ladies which include a Holiday Fashion Show and a Vendor Showcase. We had a blast celebrating the worth of all the beautiful ladies in the city. A Special Thanks to Deborah Parrish, LaJoyce Harris, Springhill Family Life Center, the models, the vendors, the deejay, the emcee and our guests. Our FELLAS NIGHT OUT event for men was awesome! We enjoyed Monday Night Football at a new venue and fellowshipped in a positive atmosphere. The e-newsletter is also a great opportunity for business owners to spread the word about their services and connect with potential customers. We went from reaching 5,000+ people to over 20,000+ people by making the magazine available in both a print and digital format. DIVINE: Who/What is your biggest inspiration?
CC: Musically speaking, I would have to say my grandfather Carl Thomas. He is responsible for my interest in piano and music. As far as the saxophone, it's Kirk Whalum.

DIVINE: You attend Berklee College of Music, what is that experience like? Name some famous musicians/artists who attended Berklee?
CC: Berklee is a great place. It's basically a place for musicians to learn at another level. You're saturated by music and musicians from all over the world all the time. Famous people include: Wyclef Jean, Trey Parker (Co-Creator of South Park) and Quincy Jones to name a few.

DIVINE: What's makes your band Authentic Counterfeit unique?
CC: We have a total of 10 members from around the Americas (North and South). Unique instruments like 14-string guitar and 6-string violin. And we reinterpret music in a way that makes you feel as if you're hearing it for the first time.

DIVINE: What’s the most rewarding part about being a musician?
CC: As a musician, I get to give away the greatest gift I have to offer to others and actually end up happier than if I had kept it. And that's a rare thing.

DIVINE: How did you become a saxophonist? What other instruments do you play?
CC: Saxophonist Kirk Whalum came to my elementary school and from the moment I heard him play, I knew what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. I also play piano and attempt to sing (ha ha).

DIVINE: What advice do you have for other aspiring musicians/artists?
CC: Just try a lot of things. I believe that a lot of would-be musicians don't make it that far because they try ONE instrument, can't play it and give up. There are hundreds upon thousands of instruments out there and there's something for everyone. After you find your thing, work hard. If you want to do this, it's gonna require a lot of you. It's more demanding than it looks. More worth it than you can imagine.

DIVINE: What other projects do you have up your sleeves?
CC: We are currently trying to release several Hip Hop and R&B tunes on our websites this semester, and then working on tours and even more tunes for next semester.

5 Ways to Handle Brokenness

2010 was starting off to be a Happy New Year until I dropped my 6 pound laptop on my baby toe the first weekend of January. As the sensation of pain enveloped my entire body, I blacked out for about 60 seconds and after regaining consciousness I went on about my day. However, after several weeks of enduring a painfully swollen baby toe, I decided to get an X-ray. One day later, the doctor called to confirm my worst nightmare—I had broken my toe. I wanted to cry because I had never broken a bone in my body & also because I had walked around for months enduring great pain because I thought that my toe, although swollen, would be okay.

The doctor informed me that the only thing that I could do would be to buy some surgical tape & for the next few weeks tape my baby toe to the toe next to it. I was also instructed to place a cold pack on my toe for 15 minutes at a time as often as possible. While I doctored on my toe for weeks, God began to reveal to me the issues that we struggle with regarding brokenness.

There are so many people going through life with broken hearts, broken spirits and so on. When brokenness goes undiagnosed or worse it’s ignored, the person endures months even years of unnecessary pain that may be inflicted onto other people. You’ve heard the saying, “Hurt people, hurt people” and it is so true because people suffering from brokenness are in fact hurting on the inside and then they consciously and sometimes unconsciously hurt other innocent people. Not only is this unhealthy but the person suffering from brokenness fails to see the importance of getting the help that they need out of fear, shame or guilt.

5 Ways To Deal With Brokenness

1. Seek professional help from certified/licensed counselors, therapists, ministers, etc. “Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.” Proverbs 11:14

2. Connect yourself with someone who is stronger than you in faith, experiences, and humility and who will consistently encourage you and intercede for you on your journey. “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 / “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17

3. Learn how to have cooling off periods—if you find yourself abusing others (physically, mentally, verbally, etc), then you need to dig deeper to discover yourself, the root of your hurt and find ways to exhibit more self-control. “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret - it leads only to evil.” Psalm 37:8

4. Understand and accept that your path to healing is not an overnight process. It won’t be easy but stay vigilant about fixing the broken areas that exist in your life. “Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness…”2 Peter 1:5-6

5. Envision yourself as a better person, a whole person with a loving heart, a happy spirit, and a positive attitude. Know that your future (relationships, success, dreams and goals, etc) looks better than your past. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones” Proverbs 17:22(KJV)

Brokenness is not a problem or issue too big for God. Surrender yourself to get the help that you need and take it one day at a time. I’ve had to make some major adjustments with my broken toe as it continues to heal but I have faith that in time it will be stronger and even better than before. Likewise, when the broken areas of your life become filled with peace, joy and contentment, you will also be stronger and even better than before!

So much has been given to us if we take the time to think about it. We’ve been given life, freedom and luxuries. The list could go on and on but we all have so much that we can be thankful for and now it’s time to turn the table and be generous. This year, I admonish you to be more generous with your time, your talents and your treasures.

We often tell people, “If you ever need anything let me know,” when what we really mean is “I hope that if you ever need me I’m able to help.” However, what a person who has experienced a sudden loss of a job, a loved one, a home, etc., needs most is consistency and simple generosity. If you’ve ever had to depend on someone else for a ride to work, gas money, to watch your children, or to even pray for you, then you know what it means for someone to keep their word (consistency) and you know the value of someone doing something for you out of the kindness of their heart (generosity). If you’ve never needed anyone just keep living, one day you will.

In John 15:12, Jesus reminds us of his commandment to love one another, as he loved us.
Jesus showed us a level of love that is incomprehensible in that he died on the cross for our sins before we were even born. “No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends” John 15: 13. Jesus considered us to be his friends long before we were even born and he expects us to be selfless and generous to our family, friends and even strangers. "As I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples..." John 13:24.

TIME
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that there is a time for everything. Be generous in the time that you give to God in reading the Word, worship and prayer. Be generous in the time that you give to your place of worship and make time to serve on a ministry team. Be generous in the time that you make for your family and for your friends. When you make time for others you plant seeds of prosperity, overflow and favor into your life. You need to also be generous in the time that you give yourself. You can’t be what you need to other people if you don’t take time for yourself.

TALENTS
You’ve been blessed with a talent to inspire, sing, encourage, dance and so on. If you are still trying to discover your purpose, draw from that thing that comes naturally to you. Whatever talent that you possess, you should be generous to share with others. If you have a talent to sing, but you aren’t a part of the Praise & Worship team, you might be missing out on an opportunity to change your life and someone else’s. If you have a heart for the homeless but you have never volunteered at a homeless shelter, then you may be missing your moment. Allow your talents to be a blessing to others. "A man's gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men" Proverbs 18:16.

TREASURES
God has blessed many of us with nice homes, cars, boats, clothes, and money. You are not required to give away everything that you work hard for but you are expected to be generous to those in need. Don’t be so attached to things that you refuse to make room for more blessings that are stored up in heaven for you. When you give to others more will be given to you and you’ll be connected to the destiny of the person that you help. Spring is right around the corner and what a great reminder of

what's to come in this new season of your life.

During the Spring months we can expect to feel March winds, to see rainbows after the April rain showers and marvel in the beauty of blooming May flowers. The heavy coats will get stowed away, hot beverages will be replaced with cool ones and the search will be on for the number to call the lawn guy. The transitions that take place as we move from the Winter season to the Spring season should remind us of the changes that need to occur in our personal lives.

Here are a few tips to help you to SPRING FORWARD in your life:

Let the onset of Spring remind you of those New Year resolutions that you've put on the back burner. Dust those resolutions off and put them back into motion.
Strive for growth in the areas of your life that need it most-finances, health, goals, etc.
Renew your relationships and friendships that have gotten stale due to busyness, neglect, etc.
Celebrate life by rejoicing with every sunrise and sunset.
On those rainy days, be reminded that God wants to drench you with His love and He wants to bless you in time.

Why Tithe

Lord, thank you for all that you have blessed me with and by the way Lord I need_________, __________, and __________ (you fill in the blanks).

I bet many of you have had or heard prayers like that. We are programmed to believe that we can go to God for everything and He will bless us according to our needs. And believe me, it’s true! God will provide for your every need and even some of your wants if they line up with what God has for your life. But have you ever just stopped and asked, God what is it that I can bless you with or what can I do for you Lord? One of the simplest things you can do unto God is follow His word and be obedient. One way that I’ve learned to be obedient to God is through tithing. Simply put, tithing is giving God 10% of your increase. In my own words, tithing is giving God what is rightfully His without any questions, moans, groans, or I’ll get you on the next go around.

I remember when I was a young girl, I would take my loose change or the dollar my mother gave me and put it into the offering tray every Sunday. I would walk down the aisle and politely grace the church with my little dollar and walk back to my seat like I was doing something great because that was what I was taught. I saw church goers give an offering every Sunday but there was never a call by the pastor to bring tithes. That soon changed when I visited what is now my current church home. Over the past several years, I have learned that the first level of tithing is the action of developing a foundation of giving. One would think that I had a strong foundation since I gave my dollar every Sunday. As I grew in Christ, however, I realized that giving was just the start. The ultimate root of tithing was obedience unto God and to trust God with all you have.

Many people often state that they don’t understand the concept of tithing; therefore I offer this very simple explanation. For every dollar you earn set aside 10 cents for God. People often use the same excuse of not being able to trust the pastor or other members of the church to use the tithes wisely. My answer to that excuse is always the same, why worry about how the money is being used but rather trust God to fulfill His plans for your tithe. Those that misuse God’s tithe will have to give account for their actions and so will those who continue to willfully rob God through not paying tithes. Remember that the Bible states in Malachi 3:8 that “Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, how do we rob you? In tithes and offerings.” Therefore reside in the fact that when you pay your tithes God sees you as worthy enough to receive a continual pouring of blessings that you won’t have room to receive.

We take a chance on much riskier things in life such as the stock market, the lottery, and get rich quick schemes, so why not take a chance on a God that has plans to prosper you and not harm you. God that doesn’t have to worry about how the economy is doing, or whether He picked the right Powerball number, but rather God can do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we could ever ask or think. God never charges you a transaction fee for conducting business on your behalf. I’ve come to the realization that no matter what the bank statement says I have in my account, I know through obedience my needs are met because of the deposit that I made in heaven. A withdrawal slip is never necessary because of my obedience to God and knowing in my heart and my mind that He will provide my every need. Nevertheless, remember you have to make a deposit in order to make a withdrawal.

Many people choose to overlook tithing by making the argument that tithing is of the Old Testament and not of the New Testament. My argument, however, is neither for the old or the new, but simply that God gave us the Bible to learn about Him and as a guide for life, therefore if it’s in the Bible then He must have thought it was important enough for it to be there. Therefore, we should avoid picking and choosing what we want to take from the Bible and live by, but choose to believe it in its entirety. I am not sure about you but I want all the blessings that God has for me. If tithing is one way to get more blessings than I have room enough to receive, I constantly say God here is all of me and a blank check, Lord you fill it in.

A Plethora of Provision

When we think of God providing for us, we often limit our thinking to the financial aspect. However, God provides for us in a number of ways and the extent to which He provides for His children is incomprehensible. Let's take a look at a few ways:

Relational

In relationships, when the person that you've invested time and energy with turns out to be someone that is not right for your destiny, God provides a way out and He provides a second chance to meet the person who you were truly intended for and who was truly intended for you. In friendships, when seasons change and friends move out of our lives or their roles change in our lives, God provides us with new friends to fill the void or those who have been there all along step up. God provides us with parents and guardians, husbands, wives, children, pastors, educators, advisors, mentors and so on. "God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19) Even in relationships, God makes the necessary provisions to mold us into the men and women that we are to become.

Health

When we neglect our temples, we are indeed destroying the bodies that God has entrusted to us. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us "You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." As many times as you've dealt with minor sickness like allergies, common colds, etc., God has provided you with doctors of varying expertise who instruct you how to care for your bodies, nutritionists who encourage you to eat correctly, and exercise coaches/personal trainers who show you how to properly exercise. God has even made provisions for your mental well-being by equipping psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors and life coaches to help you to cope with life in a more balanced way. Pastors, prayer partners, preachers and teachers all provide you with guidance to optimum spiritual health. Everything that we need for healthy minds, bodies and spirits has been provided to us by our Lord & Savior.

Strength
When life seems too hard, God provides us with supernatural strength to endure. We experience death, financial setbacks, health issues, challenging projects and tasks, dysfunctional relationships, and the results of poor choices. However, God knows how much we can bear and he gives us what we need right when we need it. God also gives us a way of escape when we are tempted to succomb to choices that make us weak or that make life much more difficult to handle. I Corinthians 10:13 ensures us that "no temptation (or trial) has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted (or tried) beyond what you are able, but with the temptation (or trial) will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it." God provides us with strength and ways to escape the things that can harm us.

Financial
In these economic times, it is certainly important to acknowledge that God provides for us financially. From our jobs to our modes of transportation, we have everything that we need. We may not have everything that we want, but if we are able to make ends meet even 80% of the time, then we are farther along than most. Many of us have had to sacrifice higher paying jobs, vacations, simple luxuries and so on in order to survive. However, just as Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own flesh and blood and God provided for him, we have access to the same God, the same generous Provider. "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh. As it is said to this day, In the mount of Jehovah it shall be provided." (Genesis 12:14).

As long as we remember to acknowledge God for the plethora of provision that He bestows upon us, then we can make it through any storm. If we are always reflecting on how far we've come and how God has provided for us before then we can have genuine confidence that He will do the same again and again. Even when life doesn't unfold as we expect it to, we have a Jehovah-Jireh watching and waiting to provide a ram in the bush and things will unfold exactly how God intends them to unfold.

The Value of Support

Support can be defined as bearing the weight of, providing aid or strength, defending, or providing a foundation. Those definitions would probably describe some of the nurturing relationships that exist with various people in your life. There aren't too many things that are more valuable than having a great support system. Christ reminds us in John 15:12-13 to love each other as He loved us. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

Here are a few examples of support:

You've been laid off your job and now you depend on others for financial support.
Your neighbor needs her grass cut and you offer to help her out for free.
You've started a new business and now a mentor provides you with moral support.
The nursing home down the street needs volunteers and you gladly sign up.
Death creeps into your family and you're immediately surrounded with love & unconditional support.
Your place of worship & its leaders help you to grow spiritually and in return you begin to serve with different ministries to provide several levels of support.
Being a parent is much easier with the support of a spouse, grandparents, etc.
It's your freshmen year in college and you are adopted by a junior studying the same major and they offer to show you the ropes.
You've taken sick and you are trusting a team of doctors and nurse to provide you with all the care and support that you need.
You join a local cause to help save a country destroyed by a recent tragedy.

Willingness to provide some level of support to others should be a part of your DNA. If you're normally the one on the receiving end, start thinking of ways that you can sow into others. It doesn't have to be anything major you can actually start off taking tiny steps. Before long you will be so caught up in helping and loving on others that it won't seem like a chore but something that you adore.

On the other end of the spectrum is being open to receive support. If you've experienced a hardship in life or entered a phase in life where you seem to be faced with a plethora of unanswered questions, don't be too ashamed to reach out to others for help. God gives some people the gift of giving and they are fulfilling their purpose in life when they are allowed the privilege to bless you. Of course, someone providing support shouldn't be abused or confused but honored, respected and appreciated. When you've experienced someone who will sow into you with no strings attached, it will ignite a fire in you to keep the circle of love and support going.

Being supportive is contagious! It works both ways and adds great value to everyone's life.

Trying to Understand Death

Experiencing death whether it affects you personally or it affects a close friend is not easy. Even watching the news and hearing of tragedy occurring with people that you don't know can be unsettling. Death can sometimes leave us wondering why? It's easy to tell someone that their loved one has gone on to a better place or that we all have to go one day, but accepting this is not as easy as it sounds.

So what is the best way to cope with death or to at least understand death? Seeking counseling and focusing on that person's legacy can certainly bring healing and understanding. It can also be helpful to look at the life span of a seed. Before a seed can blossom into a beautiful flower or bear tasty, delicious fruit it in fact has to die first. In John 12:24 Jesus reminded Phillip and Andrew that "...Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit."

So how does thinking about a seed falling to the ground help? All of our loved ones, friends, or even celebrities who we connect with have shared a part of themselves with us in some shape, form or fashion. Consider them a seed that has/had beautiful, vibrant life within. Each person, no matter how young or old, represents seeds of wisdom, humor, service, joy, kindness, protection and so on. **Pause a minute and think of the kind of seeds that the people in your life (living or deceased) represent.** As you stay close to (nurture/love) that seed and observe its many characteristics or principles that you can apply to different areas of your life, you are helping the seed to fulfill its purpose. However, in order for the seed to reach its full potential, it must die.

As hard as it may be to accept the death of a loved one, it's vital to think of them as having represented a seed in your life. You are in full blossom or headed in that direction because of those who came before you. All of our loved ones who have passed away have completed their cycle of life which enables us as their seedlings to bear the fruit that they instilled in us. Believe it or not, you are also responsible for planting seeds into the lives of others.

Find comfort in knowing that you have what it takes to carry on the legacy of those that you mourn. The grieving process is just that--a process, so take the time and the necessary steps to come to terms with losing the people that were special to you. In time, make sure to place yourself in an environment that is conducive to your continuous growth so that you can blossom as expected. Even when you experience setbacks--dry seasons, excessive amounts of water (tears), pruning, malnourishment (family/friend issues), or slow growth--remember that you are important and your survival is key to those who will learn from you.

Helpful Hint***Visit your favorite local nursery and find seeds of a flower, etc., that you can plant and watch grow to commemorate your loved one and to remind you to stay focused and to become everything you are destined to become.

I hope 2010 is off to a great start for you. I'm sure you've thought about all the ways that you plan to make this year better than 2009. Some of you have chosen not to make New Year's Resolutions but to instead strive each day to become better and better. Whatever your approach to the new year, know that God has already ordered your steps and He's just waiting for you to get on the right path. If you started in 2009 planting seeds for what you want to see take place in 2010, God just wants you to remain faithful. No matter what you set out to do, I'm sure you'll be a better, wiser person that's just like new! Let your past be your past and know that your future is bright.

2009: The Year of DIVINE...2010: The Year of DIVINE ORDER

2009 was truly the Year of DIVINE. We were privileged to do a plethora of new things--launching new events, being a part of the biggest award shows in the Christian/Gospel industry, traveling to Africa on a life-changing Mission Trip, getting connected in CyberWorld, inspiring hundreds of people to greatness & so much more! In 2010, we're expecting even more explosive things to happen and believe that it will be like DIVINE Dynamite all year long!!!

At the start of 2009 and during his Inaugural speech, President Barack Obama stated “we the people have remained faithful” and “the challenges we face are real, but they will be met.” He reminded us that now “our spirit is stronger and that we will not be broken.” However, our destiny depends on us embracing “the knowledge that God calls on us to accept” and that it will take the “faith and determination of the American people” to survive the tough times.

We have a strenuous road ahead in 2010 but we will remain faithful to what we know works to survive. Those ingredients include trusting God, being firmly planted in our places of worship, protecting our communities and creating a safe and progressive environment for our children--our leaders of tomorrow.

I also had the privilege to travel on a mission trip to Africa to share the message of Jesus and love on children at Care Points. I also kept a journal while I was on my 10 day journey and shared it in the Fall 2009 Issue of DIVINE (click here to view) to encourage others to go on a mission trip or sow into others who desire to go out as missionaries.

CYBERWORLD CONNECTIONS
We have also tapped into the cyber world to increase our Internet presence by joining Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, & creating THIS BLOG. We also distribute an electronic newsletter to hundreds of readers entitled Bringing You Everything Inspirational to provide information about the positive events that are taking place around the city and beyond. The e-newsletter is also a great opportunity for business owners to spread the word about their services and connect with potential customers. We also launched DIVINE Digital to allow more people to be impacted by our publication and went from reaching 1,500 people to a total of 5,000 people by making the magazine available in a print and digital format. We plan to double that number in 2010.

What Wonderful Child Is This

There are so many elements of Jesus’ birth that I would love to capture. The star that shone so bright, the three wise men that came as witnesses, the pregnancy of the virgin Mary, the fact that there was no room at the inn or that our Lord and Savior Jesus was born in a stable. The list could go on, however, the common thread would be the need to take notice and celebrate that miraculous occasion. Every event which led up to Jesus’ birth represented an even greater purpose in the end. Every person involved in Jesus’ birth was an ordinary person who became a part of something extraordinary.

It is so important to understand how mysteriously God can work. Sometimes, it may seem that life is moving slowly, that our chaotic workplace will never subside, that our children will never straighten up and fly right, that our spouses will always make things difficult, that school will always be a struggle, that there will always be more bills than paycheck. However, there is a light at the end of the road. That light this holiday season is that star that was shining so bright. It is the same light that led the three wise men who had never seen or met Jesus to travel to be by his side. The wise men came prepared with gifts expecting to find something worth celebrating. Speaking of expecting, the virgin Mary was given the honor of carrying Jesus in her womb. She was required by God that is, to accept her role at a young age and had to endure an awkward situation throughout her pregnancy. Even the mother of Jesus had to endure trials and tribulations.

There is a great message that should be our focus this holiday season: in every situation we face, God knows what’s best even if it seems uncomfortable for a time. Philippians 4:6 says “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. As we go into the New Year, we must continue to exhibit patience and trust God to move in our lives. Whether it is a desire to be married, steps on how to lead a spouse to Christ, whether to go back to school, or how to get out of debt, God wants us to make our requests known and then prayerfully wait for Him instead of trying to fix things on our own.

Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Missionary?

We journey through most of our lives trying to figure out how we can make ourselves look better, feel better or be better. Few people in life can say they eat, sleep and breathe to help others. However, the truth is none of the things that we do for ourselves matter. It’s what we do for others and ultimately what we do for Christ that’s important. I’m sure you’ve heard the old hymn titled, “Only What You Do for Christ Will Last” and in that song there’s a verse that says, “Soon the glories of this life will all be past, but only what you do for Christ will last.” Challenge yourself to do things that will last and it will be no surprise that it will involve serving other people.

Local Impact
Local ministries are very important to the growth and the stability of communities. After a storm hits a community or tragedy strikes, it is the local churches, ministries and organizations that help families rebuild their lives. Local ministries provide light and a beacon of hope to local citizens. Volunteers are always needed to carry the torch. If you’re looking for ways to make a local impact, get involved with ministries like Angel Food, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, prison ministries, hospital ministries, nursing home ministries and college ministries. Connect with your place of worship or perform an on-line search for ministries in your community and get involved.

Global Impact
Going on a mission trip can be the ultimate step in impacting nations. Taking a mission trip to places like Uganda, Brazil, New Guinea, Israel, China and beyond can be a life changing event for you and the lives of the people that you touch. When the natives see missionaries, it is a testament to them that Jesus cares enough about them to send people from miles away to love, care for and spend time with them.

Last year in 2008 I had the chance to make my first trip to Swaziland, Africa with HPC and Go Global Ministries. We had the chance to serve Healing Place Swaziland and Children’s Cup ministries and community outreach at local schools with basketball clinics. The experience was life changing for me. I second guessed myself and God before I went. Why me? Why here? Why now? Am I too old? (48) I am just an average Christian with simple faith…not a special teacher, preacher or the like. However, that was just the voice of the accuser trying to impede my path. That trip forged relationships with people that will last a lifetime.

I did have the chance to return this year and reunite with many friends from last year. I was reminded that the African people have so little, yet they give so much of themselves to you. I was changed by seeing the amazing faith of a people so impoverished and oppressed. It was amazing to me that they see so many teams each year, yet they remembered me. Surely that is God’s way of letting me know that it was His will for me and that it did make an impact on them.
I believe that I love even more deeply and unhindered since my two trips. I am taking greater risks to walk in all that God has for me and I am more willing to do things that seem so out of my reach and/or comfort zone. My advice is don’t miss the chance to know our God more intimate and love others more deeply. Don’t miss the chance to see how much of our lives are spent thinking about ourselves and don’t ever think that you are too old or ill equipped…..just go. My life with God is now summed up by this statement: The answer is yes Lord, what is your question.

I had heard that said, but to have it happen to you is different. My heart holds faces and lives that I may never see again and I am forever changed by them. I pray that in some way the role I played on that trip will help their life a bit.

My mission trip to Swaziland, Africa has made a tremendous impact on my ministry as a musician and a minister of the gospel. I believe that my ministries are way more inclusive and practical instead of stylistically focused. God showed me that the same issues we have locally are somewhat the same issues that we have globally. Obviously, some are worse than others. However, the message has to be the same across the board and the message has to be supported by works not just a good sermon or song. The message is that Jesus Christ is alive and wants to live in us and will change our life forever if we allow him. The work is seemingly infinite and eternal and it involves stepping out of our comfort zone for the purpose of Christ, which is ultimately the salvation of his people (physically, mentally, and spiritually). I think that I have impacted the mind and the hearts of my family and friends by igniting their curiosity, as well as the possibility of them stepping out on faith to either go on a mission trip or at least be in greater support of those who do decide to go.

Church/Affiliated Ministry: Go Global Missions at The Life Church of Memphis

For the past 3 summers I have gone on short-term mission trips to Africa. All trips were mainly to Swaziland, but I also had the opportunity to visit Nairobi, Kenya and Durban, South Africa. The very first trip changed my life and gave me a heart for Africa. I am currently applying for a one year overseas internship through Go Global. Every time I am there I don't really feel homesick. I love being there. It's quite an indescribable feeling that I don't know how to explain other than it simply being a God thing. I want to reach His people and share His love with those who don't know it.
