On a Mission

2010-03-16T03:54:00.001-04:00

A while back I began a mission to do something with the UGLY outlet plates in my house. They are EVERYWHERE and really a rather boring stamp in EVERY room. So I came up with this little idea...

Why not frame it! A standard 5 x 7 frame fits a three switch plate cover PERFECTLY!

Now...off to hunt down at least 30 more!

Apothicary Jar Addicition!

2010-03-11T14:44:00.000-05:00

I can't stop making these awesome jars. Every time I am out, I see something that is just begging to be turned into an apopthicary jar. They are so fun to make! Check out the latest one I threw together!

If you look closely, this jar is from Walmart! I used a silver jar lid from another pot I broke, a silver candler holder and a cross I had around and it all came together!

Jewelry Organizer

I know you all have seen these made many times on the blogs...I finally made one for myself and the organization it brings is so awesome!

Plaground ball redo!

2010-03-04T12:34:00.000-05:00

Look out Grayson and Josh (my sweet kids), not even your toys are safe from Mommy's decorating! I snagged an old Dora playground ball that was deflated and made this!

The vase was from GW for $3.95. I just loved the shape. I added an old pearl braclet that wasn't ever getting to go out on my wrist. I think it is happy to adorn this little creation!

Go check the garage for deflated balls, grab some moss and a glue gun and make yourself a divine new creation! Have a blessed day. Thank you to all for your comments on my blog. I love knowing you are out there and sharing this love of decorting with ya! Hugs -

FORCING Spring to Come!

2010-03-02T12:47:00.003-05:00

Well...I decided to decorate a bit outside on my front porch yesterday with every intent of gently and lovingly FORCING Spring to come...(as if I have any control). Today, in Georgia, it snowed! Yep, enough to close the schools and all. But my bright cheery yellow is like a ray of hope, that soon...Spring will come!

Pillow Talk...Aren't they divine!

2010-02-27T22:07:00.005-05:00

Here is a great project for Spring. I found these pillows on sale for $4.00 ea. I did a little embellishment! You really have to try this super easy project.

BEFORE: Bold, but a bit blah...

AFTER...Bold, bright and really fun!!!

Here's how I did it...

1. Select 3 coordinating fabrics.

2. Buy some Fabric glue. I used Fabri-Tac by Beacon Adhesives.

3. Trace a circle to create a flower pattern on the back side of your fabrics. Use varying sizes for each flower. I literally traced different size jar lids for each flower creating 5 petals. Super easy. (Note, pencil eraser works great on black fabrics). Cut the flowers out.

4. Arrange the flowers in the desired pattern and glue. As you can see I did mine off center and wrapped over the edge a bit.

5. Done...Super easy, fast and great results. They easily found a great new home!

What do you think?

Yellow...Yellow...Yellow

2010-02-27T21:23:00.001-05:00

I have to admit, if there was a color I didn't care for in decrating, I would have to say it was yellow. I once painted a room yellow and kept it about a month before I had it repainted...BUT...maybe I was NUTS! This color has been catching my eye EVERYWHERE lately and I am IN LOVE!!!

What are your thoughts on yellow? Are you a fan? I'm sold!

Sleepover Extravaganza

2010-02-26T06:30:00.002-05:00

Slumber Party Extraganza!
Every 7-year old needs to experience her first sleeopver! This party was SO fun to do and the girls had a great time! As it turns out, almost every girl we invited had never been on a sleepover, so it was really fun to bless them a little extra at this party! They were all so polite and gracioius little ladies.

Invitations!

The party room. It was a girls dream all glitz and glamour!

Spa Time!

Lip gloss, nail polish, nail art and glitter hairspray!

Rubix cube fun, while the girls waited in line.

Every girl needs a rock to accent her perfectly polished nails!

A girl has to have bubble gum!

Dinner Time...Make your own fruit salad and pizza. Every girl had to have their own crysal glass (no worries on breakage...these are from the dollar store).

After dinner we got ready for movie time!

The cake...Each girl was designed after the guests! This was SO fun to make!

Before the girls giggled their way to sleep...we gave each guest a "sleepover friend" that looked like them.

The next morning we decorated pillow cases as a memory of the girls 1st sleepover!

And then....finally after the last guest left...We had some Mommy and Me time to reminisce about all the fun we had!

And of course a long nap!

Office Decor Redesign - Horse Bookends

2010-02-25T09:27:00.001-05:00

I was checking out one of my favorite blogs recently when I learned how gorgeous laquer spray paint can makeover any ceramic item. I saw a great little owl at Three Men & A Lady http://windhula.blogspot.com/ (check her blog out!) and knew the very next shopping trip, I would have my eyes pealed for either an owl, bird or horse. It didn't take long before I found the perfect gems!

Check out my new friends...They are so happy to grace my bookshelves!

And because we all have to see just how ugly they were to enjoy their truly DIVINE redesign...Here is a before shot:

And now...a much happier version!

Office Decor Redesign - Chirp Chirp...

2010-02-24T09:25:00.000-05:00

If you walk into any store, or flip through any decorating magazine, it doesn't take but a second to see that birds are all the decorating rage this season. So love them! They are so sweet and innocent. I found this one on the half off rack at my favorite decorating consignment store. She was only 1.25 so I figured, if I hated her after I "redesigned" her, I could always "reconsign" her back to the same store! I think she turned out pretty cute and has the perfect spot in my office, perched up on some recovered books. All it took was a few coats of laquer spray paint.

What a little paint can do...

Check out my latest find! I bought these for $3.95 each at the GW! They had details that I loved, but it was hard to look past the 8 coats of paint they were dressed in!

Green = No!

White = Glorious!

Office bookshelf makeover

2010-02-23T18:21:00.006-05:00

What does two rolls of wrapping paper, one BFF, and a girl on a mission equal? My new office bookshelves! (Aside: Surely I'm too old to use the term BFF, right?)

I spend so much time in my office that I grow bored with it very easily so it will forever be a work in progress. I couldn't wait to share my latest update. I wanted to brighten up my bookshelves with a little visual interest so I found a photo in a magazine that I loved and set out to copy it! So, after shopping for weeks for the perfect wallpaper that was a style I liked and the correct width, turned out to be fruitless. My sister suggested wrapping paper! A few trips around town and I found the perfect paper. It only took me a few hours, one BFF loaded with stimulating conversation AND the job was done! Perfection!

Before: Boring...

After: Bookshelves Anew!

Whatcha think? My husband is mortified that this expensive piece of furniture is wrapped like a gift; however, I only used water soluable spray adhesive in the corners so it is completely removeable! All that is left to do now is finding someone to translate this sentance for the cleaning people? "Hernando, please do not get furniture polish on my wrapping paper? LOL!

Simple Elegance

2010-02-16T09:18:00.000-05:00

My sister and I recently found a new place to shop and it didn't take a second to become our favorite. A consignment shop for home accessories! The prices are amazing and with a little paint and creativity...you can transform things in an instant! I bought this little urn that I just loved the shape of for $2.00. I added the cameo from a broken braclet I had lying around...a few roses and you have...simple elegance!

Pretty huh?!

Family Photo Wall

2010-02-15T21:36:00.000-05:00

A little bling to my tired photo frames really added a ton more visual interest. It's amazing what a little ribbon and sequins can do!

Its a party...Camping style!

2010-02-13T13:35:00.001-05:00

For my son's 6th birthday, he REALLY wanted a camping theme. This would be NO problem if his birthday was in say...July, but as fate would have it, he is a winter baby! So, I set out to make his birthday wish of a "camping party" come true! We are blessed to live in the south where the winter's are mild and the day turned out to be 55 degrees and sunny!

This post features some of the highlites (the sun messed with my photos, but we were thankful to have it at our party!).

Goody bags...hobo style. The kids loved them!

A child-friendly buffet of the classics...hotdog, mac 'n cheese and lots of treats!

A Simple Camp Fire Cake!

Self-Serve Drink Station!

Child-proof Camp Fire (made from empty paper towel rolls and tissue paper)

Throw in a pop-up camper...and you have one happy little boy!

Which makes for a SUPER happy Mom!

Organization and function…made pretty!

2010-02-12T08:45:00.005-05:00

This little necessity in my house should really be called the “Mom, where is it? station”. After months of being asked, Mom where are the erasers…Mom do we have any pencils around here…I decided, despite my attempts to create lovely little areas for the kids to do their homework, they will always love sitting at the breakfast bar so they can be close to me. It is building memories in their little souls that we all share an after school snack of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies with milk and calmly and serenely do homework and share the exciting things we missed while apart…OPS! Waking up now…sorry, that was an episode of Leave it to Beaver I was recalling…LOL! Really its more like Mom…I doooooooooooooooon’t waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanna dooooooooooooo it! Why do we have to eat ahealthy snack? Elise's Mom lets her eat candy after school. UGH! God bless the teachers of America! I do NOT know how they do it!

So, back to the jars…I made these jars by crumbling white tissue paper and decoupaged them with Modge Podge. So love that stuff! I printed the numbers on the computer and decoupaged those on as well. Added a bit of ribbon for pizzazz and the necessities are neat and tidy, but available when the homework ~~nightmare~~ party begins!

What do you think? BTW...Kids...the pencils are in jar number 1! :)

Joshua's Surfer Bedroom

2010-02-12T08:24:00.003-05:00

Surfs Up!

While out garage saleing last summer in one of the most fab neighborhoods in the outskirts of Atlanta, my sister and I came across some Pottery Barn Hawaiian-themed bedding. It was almost brand new for $35, with the sheets, bed skirt, shams and matching blanket! Insanity! I wasn't sure the theme I wanted for my son's room was surfing, but it all just sorta came together...and for next to nothing in the funds department. So, when we want to change it, we can! Stay tuned for a whole room reveal (after the cleaning people come today!). Here is a sneak preview of the artwork I made him...so simple a tutorial would be insulting to you all! A ltitle paint, some letters and glue!

Covered books...Who doesn't love 'em?!

2010-02-12T07:56:00.003-05:00

I don't know about you all, but I will never tire of decorating with books. I just love the warmth and charm an old book adds to a room. I do, however, love to reinvent them from time to time.

Check out the cute new scrapbook papers I found and have used around my house. It really gives new life to something old.

And this one too!

Oh and these are great too!

and this one is pretty too!

Apothicary Jar from a Coffee Can

2010-02-08T20:13:00.004-05:00

BEFORE:

AFTER:

This is a trash to treasure story for sure. Pretty sweet, don't ya think? So simple! Just a little jute, an empty coffee can, burlap, spray paint, inital stencil, crystal candle holder and finial.

It makes me smile every time I walk by it! What do you think?

Coffee Canisters

2010-02-07T21:19:00.000-05:00

Skinny Vanilla Late anyone?

I wanted to create a coffee station with some canisters that would hold my coffee supplies that looked a bit different than the typical. I created these little guys with cardboard boxes, candle holders, drawer pulls and a little paint! I found these round cardboard boxes at the Goodwill for $2.00 each along with the candle holders that were brass and really UGLY for $1.00 each. Lucky for me the boxes were already pretty cute in chocolate brown and gold polka-dots. I painted the lids and candle sticks with metallic bronze spray paint and added some inexpensive drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby $1.50 ea (wish they were a bit chunkier...bet hey!) glued it all together with gorilla glue and walla!

A little something different and functional too. Maybe now, I'll hit Starbucks a little less?

Total cost for project: $9.00
