Home Renovation From Gut Rehab in Less Than 4 Months!

This house is a gut rehab¹ job. My team and I started this project in April 2019 and it is now complete and ready for occupancy. It’s a great honor to help the family get done and move in before winter arrived.

It took us roughly 4 months starting with pulling permit and completion.

We removed and reframed the whole house with 9 feet ceiling on the 2nd floor with an open layout concept. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths on the 2nd floor. First-floor open foyer with 2 big skylights to bring in more daylight to brighten up the area. Also, the first floor has a master suite and a walkout patio deck. Most importantly is the house completed on time so people can be ready for Thanksgiving dinner. Natural Slate & Glass Tile Bathroom Installation

Natural stone slate tile is a very beautiful multi-color material that is not really a contemporary look but an all natural look. So it wouldn't seem that it would mix well with a modern contemporary glass tile look. But surprisingly, the slate tile installation job shown below turned out to be a very wonderful look.

Natural Slate Tile for Flooring can be installed over wood or cement if the floor is dry and stable.

With 6 x 6 slate outside and a glass centerpiece on the walls and 12 x 12 slate on the floor, it became a amazing look in this bathroom. It became a one of a kind look with the flair of the glass and the natural look of the slate I actually loved the look. I hope this may give you some unique ideas for your own bathroom. Ive been posting articles here since 2011. Ive been criticized by my peers mostly competitors and at times threats of being sued because i shared my opinions of products and procedures I use tried and true from over 35 years of laying tile. I write here on this blog for the sole purpose of helping and informing hard working people like myself how to get the best quality tile job possible at the best possible price or even do it yourself. This economical thinking angers my competition and others in the industry. They would rather you not know the inside knowledge of your installation and for sure not be able to do it yourself.They see it as jobs and money they may lose. I on the other hand believe that by helping others is a asset and in the long run actually brings in more jobs and thus more income at the very least builds trust and appreciation from the ones it helps. My competition never miss a chance to slam me , claim I'm incompetent and in some cases slander me as not knowing my job. Well to this i reply Ive been installing tile for a lifetime and in Boston alone in 15 years Ive completed at least 100 jobs per year so more or less 1500 jobs in the north shore area . I continue to complete quality installations in north shore Boston and now Florida to this day. I spend 8 months a year in Florida and 4 months a year in Massachusetts and install tile to make my living. I post pictures of jobs completed alot of time here on this blog Ive written many articles here that detail the process and best product that I use to do my job. I share MY procedures and experience to readers not as the ONLY way to do it but as the way my years of experience have proven successful. If you've successfully done some tile work then stone and masonry work will be easy. Tile has straight lines and precise cuts needing a lot of careful planning to keep it straight and clean. Natural stone on the other hand is more like a jigsaw puzzle without straight lines and an abstract pattern. Its installed with concrete like tile and leveled flat in the same way, just no lines to keep straight and an all natural stone finish. Do's and Dont's of Choosing a Tile Installer to do Work in your Home

Tile installation is a very specialized trade and most tile after installed is in effect a concrete like product and can't easily be changed. In most cases if change is needed then new material will have to be repurchased. So it is imperative to hire a qualified professional tile installer to do your work. But How do you know who to choose?

Here are some basic guide lines that can help you make an educated choice.

1. Its always nice to find someone one of your friends has had in their home and has had experience with the installer's work, so start with friends and family to see if any one knows a quality tile installer
2. If none of your friends or family knows of a good tile installer , then the newspaper or numerous internet classified sites are your best bet, the most known of course is craigslist.
3. Always get at least 3 quotes and if they seem like high prices they probably are and continue looking until you find something comfortable for you. The most economical way to go is to find a labor only installer and supply the materials yourself.
4. ALWAYS get and check as many references as possible the best reference is a completed tile job somewhere in public that you can go out on your own and see for yourself.

For instance, I have 2 jobs in the public mall here in Boston on the North Shore that anyone can just go into the store and see the work.
5. Longevity and durability of a job is very important if you can talk to a customer of your installer who's job was done some years ago you will know the job is still in tack and done in a quality manner and you will get a lasting installation
6.Ask questions of your prospective installer before committing to hiring him. NEVER let ANY installer tell you its ok to lay tile on top of a wood substructure, It will not last half the life of tile laid on Hardiboard or Durock your grout can crack and tile break from wood movement and any water ever on your floor will cause failure . make sure any tile laid in a wet area such as shower or bathroom is installed with thin set concrete and NOT tile mastic as mastic does not do well in a wet environment. Never install tile in a shower on Sheetrock or green board use only Hardi board or durock.
7. Always insist your installer use spacers and if he tells you he doesn't need them he can do well without them then don't hire him period. I've been installing tile for over 37 years and can lay a floor without spacers but the finished product is NEVER as clean and straight as the one done with spacers.
8. I personally would never want any bench in my shower built out of wood, wood in a wet area makes no sense. Cement blocks are much less costly and will last forever. I would insist on a concrete block bench in my shower
9. Finally your installer will be in your house for some days make sure your choice for a installer is one you feel comfortable and at ease with.

I hope this advice has given you some inside information and thoughts from a professional tile installer that will make your choice for a tile installer easier and less stressful

Remember, tile installation is a very hard and physical trade right up there with stone masons, sheet rock hangers and roofers many years of work can take a real toll on the body. I myself have had both my hips replaced, my knees are sore, and my back hurts as i step out of the truck first thing in the morning. We deserve to make a good wage, not outrageous , but fair and honest working pay. Tile repairs are a very specialized service and it can be hard to get tile contractors interested in small, sometimes difficult, detailed repairs. The trick to these repairs is to remove and replace the broken materials without it being obvious that it has been repaired. To complete these repairs and have it not look like an afterthought is a very tricky undertaking.

The first step

is to remove the grout around the targeted tile so as not to disturb the tiles around it that will not be removed. Grout binds together tiles and gives it solidity and if not removed then action against one tile can affect others. Many times it takes a hammer and a chisel to remove tiles and if the grout is not removed first then the impact can break surrounding tiles as well.

After the grout is removed, the tile to be replaced can be broken from the middle out in

pieces and removed carefully using the hammer and chisel a little at a time or all at once if the tile is not bonded very well. If it is bonded strongly, then a little at a time is the only way to remove it. After the tile is removed, the task of chipping off the thinset or adhesive is the next step and can be very difficult and time-consuming - as well as creating a mess and a lot of dust! Again, the hammer and chisel will be your best bet unless you have an electric alternative. Once you've removed all the adhesive, you can re-adhere your replacement tile back in place of the one you've removed, wait some time for it to dry, and then re-grout the repaired area with the same color grout as the rest of the area around the repair.

Shower re-grouts are in some ways much easier because you don't have

to worry about breaking tiles from removal. But scraping and cleaning of the grout and old caulk can be very patience-testing. Any loose grout or caulk has to be removed completely before the new can be applied. The trick to these repairs is getting the new grout to adhere to the old grout. This is generally accomplished by removing enough grout from the area so the new grout has room to stay. Generally you need 1/8 of a inch of new grout on top of the old for it to adhere and not flake out later. Repairs are in some ways much harder than standard installations and in many cases you should get a professional to come out and implement the repair if possible. If you can't seem to gather any interest from any tile guys to do your repair, I will be glad to assist you in any way I can - just give me a call and I'll gladly walk you through it right over the phone!

I always want to give my customers and blog followers the best advice on the most economical yet highest quality tile-related installations. I've learned this information from years of hands-on doing of the jobs myself. As you may know from my actual web site I do all my jobs personally and have over 34 years of experience.co

In all those years out on the job I have pretty much seen it all. So when I make a recommendation on what's the best way to go, it's because I've weighed

out the best options for my customers out there on he job. I also do repairs and always have: many in my industry overlook the repairs as not being lucrative enough to warrant their time, so I do get a lot of repairs.

The most costly repair is the leaky walk-in shower pan, which can sometimes be in

excess of $500. I've done well over 100 of these repairs in my career and only 1 or 2% of these were rubber membrane repairs, while the other 98% were copper pans. In the instances of the rubber membrane repairs it was always improper installation by nails being nailed below the waterline. As we have all heard from the eco criers, it takes hundreds of years for plastic and heavy rubber products to deteriorate in the environment, so it only makes sense that a rubber membrane would almost never be affected by water and would surely last past my lifetime when installed correctly.

The copper pan, on the other hand, is metal and starts the deterioration process

almost immediately when in contact with water. We've all seen a green copper penny, and that green on the copper is just like rust on iron and steel. I have removed so many copper pans that were rusted through (for lack of a better word). I've seen it again and again: tearing out a shower floor and 12 inches up the wall because water was dripping into the living room ruining the ceiling and requiring more costly repairs.

Furthermore, copper pans are very costly even without repairs: most have to be

custom-made and the plumbing labor is very expensive. The cost is $400 to $800 and even more depending on the layout of the shower floor to be dried in. On the other hand, I install rubber membrane to dry in the shower floor at a total cost of $175 and that includes the concrete in the floor to slope to the drain. I have several contractors who used to use copper who now call me to come out just to dry-in showers for them at a huge savings for a much more reliable and longer-lasting product. Using logic and common sense, it seems obvious that for less money and a longer-lasting, dependable shower floor the rubber membrane is the best call.

I don't supply materials on any of my jobs and don't ever gain monetarily on any of my recommendations: I speak only from experience and the desire for my customers to get the most for their money.

To the average customer the ‘Tile’ is a mundane and not that particularly interesting aspect of Wall Coverings or Suspended Ceilings. The ceramic component, or occasionally Plywood or even insulated rubber, is simply a tool used to cover plaster in either the Bathroom or Kitchen.

A way of adding decoration or colour to the living space…and that is all!

For architectural planners or professional decorators however the Tile is an enhancement for a special look and mood. It is a manoeuvre of grabbing guest’s attention and an illustrative signifier of the property owner’s personality.

Interiors are enriched with a sense of permanence and timelessness due to the ceramic square or rectangle according to manufacturer’s Heath Ceramics. Tiles can make a room bold and sometimes overwhelming through brash colourations, engraved textures and selected material. In other instances the piece can defy simplification and modernism due to delicate tonal White or pastel swatches with a smooth finish (compared on Figure 1).

They are also a great technique in order to disguise potential moisture, mould and sagged plasterboard.

Regarding the influencers of the Tiling system it is the contemporary White or pastel colours of Blue that the majority of architects appear to favour. The reason behind the favouritism, especially towards Whites, is that they are clean and can act as a canvas in which to personalise. It can either be an endorser of the clinical and futuristic or…

The character White Tile has been adored by professionals for decades. It, as with any ceramic, has the ability to be attached to the surface area and left bare or painted and for the room itself as a barrier or partition to the potential spread of engulfment, thus surrounding rooms are further protected. Of course the little additions the White Tile provides to a social space is important, but it is the durability that is adored.

A component part can be cemented to a domesticated kitchen and bathroom (compared on Figure 2), and for working areas the entrance, refurbished office and washrooms. Within those compartments the neutral visual can influence or even manipulate Office Storage, Space Planning and can realise the authenticity of flexible and moveable Folding Screens.

Architectural firms see the White Tile as the more safer and reliable option. They rely on the supplementation of Tiling manufacturers such as British Ceramic Tile, Johnsons Tiles and Craven Dunnill to name a few. From these they can acquire the gloss or satin Tundra, Chroma, Trace or Hemingway. All basic and selective Whites do the job of implanting freshness and openness to a living or working area, but have a slight issue.

Most White Tiles are not completely White in depth, i.e. there are slight pigmentations of other tones within the mixture, and can consist of additional grain or decors that can masquerade the full benefits of a clean and smooth surface. These attributes can either be a preference or irritant to architects and structural designers and fitters.

The majority of professional developers would be jubilant if there was just a smooth textured Tile with pristine White consistency rather than mixing or impressions.

It is evident when either a bathroom, kitchen or office space showcases dominant White tone that the furnishings of sinks, baths and Office Chairs are more highlighted and illusive than the duller Wall, Floor and Ceiling ceramic fittings. This problem however is coming closer to being prevented and architects idealisms closer to reality.

The manufacturing brand Rockfon have launched their new batch entitled Rockfon Blanka. The specially coated matt has been sourced from as far as the US space industry in order to guarantee a high performance wool core. The easily installed Tile is durable as to be fitted in any direction which leads onto saving time and reducing waste. They are also 100% resistant to humidity to prevent the ceramic mould losing its shape.

‘The ‘ultra-white’ Rockfon Blanka tiles feature light reflection and light diffusion properties to maximise the uniform spread of natural light. Independent tests have shown that Rockfon Blanka has a light reflection index above 87% and an L Value of 94.5+’.

The product is sound absorbent and insulated and finally adjusts ceiling lighting to compete with other Whites (see Figure 3).

Basic Tools You Need to Lay Tile

The basic tools needed to lay tile are available at Home Depot, Lowes and most tile stores.

Tile tools are pretty cut and dry, and the basic set of essentials will cost you about $100. I've taken photos of my tools for this blog and these are not new tools They have been well used on a daily basis. These are the required tools to do a tile job in or around your home. The wet saw is included but not required. All the cuts can be made with the 4 inch grinder and the tile cutting machine

Tools for Laying Wall and Floor Tile

Picture 1: notched trowels used to spread thinset on floors and walls .The notches allow for consistent thicknesses of thinset before you lay your tile. from left to right the first is a 1/2 notched trowel used for natural marble and slate tile, The second is a 3/8 inch trowel for large format floor tiles. The third is a 1/4 inch notched trowel, The most common used for floor and wall tile. Finally there is a finishing trowel for skin coating thinset smoothly on a surface.,

Tile Tools: Stone Chipping Hammer, Margin Trowl,Tile Nippers

Picture two (2) shows from left to right, a stone chipping hammer for chipping concrete, flattening nails and basic hammering, which will be required every now and then. Then there is a margin trowel use for spreading thinset and mixing thinset in a bucket. The third tool is also a margin trowel bit it is a 1/4 inch notch margin trowel used to spread a consistent 1/4 inch thickness of thinset in corners and around edges. Finally there are tile nippers used to take small nips of tile off of the edge of cuts to make precise fits when cuts are just a bit too large to fit,

Picture three (3) shows 2 speed squares. One is a 12 inch square and the other is a 6 inch square used to draw straight square lines on tile to make cuts. There are also pics of two levels . One 2 ft level and the other is a 4 ft level used to check rows of tile for levelness and also to keep lines straight.

The first step is to remove the grout around the targeted tile so as not to disturb the tiles around it that will not be removed. Grout binds together tiles and gives it solidity and if not removed then action against one tile can affect others. Many times it takes a hammer and a chisel to remove tiles and if the grout is not removed first then the impact can break surrounding tiles as well.

After the grout is removed, the tile to be replaced can be broken from the middle out in pieces and removed carefully using the hammer and chisel a little at a time or all at once if the tile is not bonded very well. If it is bonded strongly, then a little at a time is the only way to remove it. After the tile is removed, the task of chipping off the thin set or adhesive is the next step and can be very difficult and time-consuming - as well as creating a mess and a lot of dust! Again, the hammer and chisel will be your best bet unless you have an electric alternative. Once you've removed all the adhesive, you can re-adhere your replacement tile back in place of the one you've removed, wait some time for it to dry, and then re-grout the repaired area with the same color grout as the rest of the area around the repair.

Shower re-grouts are in some ways much easier because you don't have to worry about breaking tiles from removal. But scraping and cleaning of the grout and old caulk can be very patience-testing. Any loose grout or caulk has to be removed completely before the new can be applied. The trick to these repairs is getting the new grout to adhere to the old grout. This is generally accomplished by removing enough grout from the area so the new grout has room to stay. Generally you need 1/8 of a inch of new grout on top of the old for it to adhere and not flake out later. Repairs are in some ways much harder than standard installations and in many cases you should get a professional to come out and implement the repair if possible. Here's a question from answers.com, which Tile Excellence oftens answers. We've even won best answer a few times.

In response to the question, "How to Install Ceramic Tile Floor"

"To install ceramic tile, first grout the area. Press the first tile on starting in a corner. Each additional tile should have 1/4" space all around the tile. Apply more grout to the seams and let it dry for several hours. Wipe off all excess grout with..."

Though not claiming my answer was the best, and with a full disclosure that I am not an EXPERT, though doing tile for almost five years, I consider myself an apprentice. The advice given below and to this reader was based on my experience with this master tile installer, I feel I can respond.

Your response to my comments will be helpful, so please feel free to comment even if you don't agee. That's what this site is all about!

1-GROUT is NOT used to lay the tile!! STOP! Thin set is used. GROUT is CEMENT!!! I about died when I saw those instructions-designed for CONSUMERS who are doing it themselves, and he told them to grout the area and then lay down the tile!!!! Wipe it off after four hours??? What, with a chisel???? You lay the tile after applied a layer of thin-set.

2-Start in a corner??? Why, because it's easiest? Even "expert" how-to books will say to start in the middle of the floor with the whole tiles, thus insuring full tiles on all sides. I understand that thinking, except in doing it this way, you will also have "cuts on all four sides, something professional tile installers who care about aesthetics will avoid. I won't even touch the "aesthetic" value of a floor which starts in a corner.

To me, that sounds like an inexperienced and lazy tile installer. [mentor] always starts with full tiles at the entrance of the bathroom, and full tiles in front of tub (lay out varies depending on where tub is located). Cuts are kept to a minimum, often with full tiles on at least 2 or 4 sides, and other necessary cuts are reserved for low visibility spots, such as behind the toilet and far end corners. This gives a beautiful overall balances layout-not always the easiest, but certainly the most consumer-pleasing layout strategy. Now, I know there are other factors involved, , but that particular issue was always important in any tile project planning of [mentor] .

3-as for adding more "grout" to the seams after laying the tile with grout, I again, am in disbelief as he then says to let it sit for 4 hours before wiping. You cannot "wipe" dry grout as he describes. This much I know as grouting was my "specialty" during my internship. After the floor is laid with thin-set the floor is covered with grout. BUT, it's done a section at at time, small sections because you do not want to disturb the tile. So sections as they dry are wiped down with damp sponge in a systematic and sequential order until the entire floor is done. Then the floor has to sit for at least 12 hours, preferably 24 hrs. At that point you will need to wipe the tile again with a damp sponge, as there will be a film from the grout, and this is easily wiped away. Also if you follow this advise, you'll be walking on the tile after only 4 hours. Oh, but since it's st in CEMENT, maybe tile shifting isn't a problem????

4-Not all tile flooring uses 1/4 inch spaces between tiles (spacers-the little white cross like plastic pieces used to accurately "space" between tiles can be 1/16th (marble and granite), 1/4, 1/8th, 3/16ths *ceramic) depend on the size of the tile used and the design. Tile installation is not "cookie cutter" design-it's individual as is each customer.

I can tell you from experience, laying a beautiful ceramic tile floor is not easy, and takes planning and experience. That's NOT to say people cannot do it themselves-that's one of the main reasons for this blog is to help DIY' ers with questions and to share experiences, but it does mean there are people that know what they are talking about, and people who think they do, and people that have no idea, but say it like they do anyways. I already said I'm not an expert, and when [tile mentor] reads this, he'll ammend any errors, but I feel confident he'd be happy I said something because innocent consumers listening the the "best" answers.com to this question will have a disastrously outcome if they listen to this "expert".

Check out credentials, see if people are "selling" something, read testimonials, check out their blogs. Not everyone answering consumer questions are doing so for the right reasons.

I know [mentor] tries not to slam anyone or any business, and I admit, I didn't follow the rest of this answer to find out if this was written by a tile expert or business. I got so stuck after reading the first line, I flew into "protect the customer" mode, and read enough to know this was bad advice.

People-even among professionals do things differently-and I don't think [tile mentor] knows everything, even about tile installation. But he is always willing to learn and listen, and apply newly learned techniques and use new tools. However, customer service, helping consumers, helping DYI do things in the simplest ways, at affordable prices, resulting in tile installation they can be proud of brings him joy and motivates him. I know telling consumers to start a tile floor in the fashion this writer did would really upset him, so for now, I'm the voice of warning.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions. AGAIN, I'm not the expert, and you are welcome to ask (ask here in response) more specifics, but I'm knowledgeable to know I'm right about the points I made-esp. the grout issue. I think people writing answers to these really important consumers questions should use extreme caution and be so careful, as the trusty consumer believes the "expert", and will follow their advise. These poor consumers better have their chisels handy to "wipe" off this grout.

I hope I didn't overstep my boundaries. Tile Experts on this blog and walk people through their tile installation projects and answers all questions with NO expectation, without gathering any information, trying to "get" the job (most of his phone and email advise for people working on DIY projects do not even live near his state of MA!), he truly does it to help people, to pay it forward, and prevent consumers from getting ripped off of making big mistakes on their projects for their beloved homes, so I know those knowing more will jump in.

[only kidding] But how's about in the spirit of giving back, of appreciating the gift God has given you, or perhaps just feeling like you want to be part of something that's been built on dreams and a vision, with one behind the scenes yet all over the place person who's never seen a paycheck? Mayve it would be nice if you showed us rookies how it's done. Rubber Membrane Shower Pan Installation

Rubber Membrane Liner Do's and Don'ts

In the past we've written about copper pan vs rubber pan liner. This article focuses exclusively on the rubber pan installation itself. With step by step pictures of the rubber pan going in including the drain attachment you will see and understand the do's and don'ts associated with the correct install so you never have to worry about a leaky shower.

Always use a single solid membrane for your shower pan. It needs to be 2 feet wider and longer than your actual shower floor area. Example if your shower is 3 ft by 5 ft then you need a 5 ft by 7 ft solid rubber membrane. Your rubber membrane needs to go 1 ft up the wall nailed to your wall studs. NEVER nail below 8 inches from the floor. TO CLARIFY KEEP ALL NAILS 8 INCHES ABOVE FINISH FLOOR. Wrap rubber liner over curb and nail Only on outside of curb. NEVER NAIL ON INSIDE OF CURB . Fold corners inside studs when possible. The drain is a 3 piece set, The adjustable screw in drain attaches to the bolt down plate which creates the actual seal against the rubber membrane. The solid one piece membrane goes right over the bottom drain plate and is cut only with a small slit for the 4 mount bolts. The actual drain hole is not cut until the seal plate is bolted\screwed down. The pictures below clarify this process.

After the membrane is installed the Hardi board can be installed on the wall AGAIN NO NAILS BELOW THE 8 INCH MARK ALL NAILS NEED TO BE 8 INCHES ABOVE FINISH FLOOR as not to create a leak in the membrane. Hardi board can be nailed on top of the curb with generous amounts of caulk used under the Hardiboard to insure top of curb seal . Hardiboard on inside of curb is NEVER nailed and will be held in place by the concrete packed on shower floor to create slant to drain.

Rubber membranes installed correctly can always be counted on for decades of leak free shower use. They are by far the most dependable as well as the most economical options for shower floor dry installation. The highest quality option and the most affordable; can't do better than that!!

Ditra Flooring Membrane Underlayment System Reality Check

Ditra Flooring System Doesn't Make Sense

I've been installing tile most of my adult life. From the first introduction of Durock then Hardi board, Even back as far as metal wire and hand "dry pack" concrete bed floors. I personally prefer Hardi board for my installation as I understand the "water barrier" properties of this product and would recommend this product and use it exclusively in my own house as a tile underlayment.

Although I am always open to the introduction of new products and always open minded to something that might prove to be a better product or a improvement upon current installation methods.

I've know of many tile installers who swear by the installation process of the "Ditra" product. But upon a closer inspection of the product and the installation process both from a common sense and scientific prospective I have great concern regarding the quality and longevity of a "Ditra" tile installation.

First, why do many installers swear by the product I believe it is exclusively because it is so easy to use. It is light weight no nails needed no carrying heavy boards cuts easily with a knife and installs quickly .But I am not so concerned that my installer have a easy installation in my home but more so I get a quality installation that will last a lifetime! I am afraid this product doesn't live up to that expectation And here's why .

The "Tile Installation | Tile Repair " manufacturer requires the use of unmodified thin set mortar to both install the "Ditra" membrane on top of a wood sub-floor as well as then install again with unmodified thin set the tile on top of the "Ditra". This type of thin set is the lowest quality type of thin set available costing like $5 per 50 lb bag. Right on this bag of thin set itself it says "for use on concrete floors" It also says to use "acrylic mortar admix" in this product (prohibited with DITRA). Now using Ditra on wood floors is defiantly not a concrete floor installation. Instead you are adhering plastic (DITRA) onto wood with a product that states right on the bag "for concrete floor installation only" right on the bag!!! This thin set again is the lowest grade thin set available on the market . And your tile is stuck to your floor only as good as the thin set concrete you use to install it. Now common sense and science dictate to me that by using this product in the way the manufacturer suggests you are in fact getting about the lowest quality tile installation possible.

I've attached some photos of the thin set and the Ditra so you can see this for yourself and make your own decision on the quality of this very expensive product . Now I don't claim to know everything about tile installations nor do I claim " to be the best" I only offer my 30+ years of experience in installing tile and my professional opinion. I would love to hear from other expert tile installers on this issue. And again will approach these other opinions with a open mind. Regards chris
