Oh the joy of a midweek holiday! Here are a few good parties to check out tomorrow night in Tel Aviv.

Anna Loulou has another fun Queer here party with post drag shows, weird performance, video art and DJ Poingi, who, as I keep telling you people, is one of my favourite DJs in town (italo disco to acid and techno). Free entry, starts at 21:00 and no, you don’t have to be queer to enjoy this party.

Remember I posted about the loft party with the one, the only, Derrick May? Well, it’s tomorrow night. It’s at the Urbanica loft on Shoken 27. Tickets cost 80NIS in advance and 100NIS on the door. Includes one drink. Starts at 22:00. Tickets by calling 052-5460129 or online here.

And if you’re over 30, feeling nostalgic for your forgotten goth days and want to be surrounded by similar locals then you can head down to the Comfort 13 from 23:00 for a club celebrating Tel Aviv famous alternative club in the 80s-90s. New wave, dark 80s, that kind of stuff. Tickets 40NIS till 00:30, then 50NIS.

Simon Posford (of Hallucinogen fame) will be holding a masterclass in Tel Aviv on the 24/5/13 at 18:30. It will be organised by BPM college of music and it costs 40NIS. Because it’s expected to be a highly popular masterclass, the event is happening at the Ozen Bar, rather than at the college itself. It will be held, one assumes, in English, as that’s the language Simon Posford speaks .

Tickets can only be bought in advance and if you’re into psychedelic trance and music-making and want to go to this workshop, I suggest you buy your ticket soon. Tickets can be bought from Tixwise (mind the Hebrew, there’s a Google Translate link at the bottom).

Got some money burning a hole in your pocket? There are two things going on right now where you might be able to get rid of it. First up, if you’re feeling richer, head down to the Dress Code designer fashion fair, which is on today till 18:00 and tomorrow from 10:00-18:00 at Dubnov 8. There will be 30% off on designer fashion from a whole load of talented local designers (for women: clothes, shoes, swimsuits and more), but prices will still be quite high. I recommend this for people who like and understand the concept of original designer fashion and are willing to spend appropriately. You may well get a bargain in terms of an original designer item that’s definitely cheaper than normal or something unique no one else will have, but if you’re looking for supercheap deals then you’ll probably leave empty handed. It costs 15NIS to get in. Here are some pictures.

Meanwhile, one of my favourite designers in town, Tomer Ben Cnaan, is opening a second store in Tel Aviv, at Allenby 92. Today’s the grand opening so there will be drinks, music and a 100NIS sale on everything in the store. It’s all happening from 15:00 – 19:00. Here are some photos of what to expect. Free entry.

Simply Sing, an evening of Hebrew/ Arabic singing with Erez Lev Ari and George Saman. The audience will sing along with the performers, but if you can’t follow, you can always just listen.
The evening will start at 19:30 with light refreshments, there will then be a couple of masterclasses at 20:00. at 21:00 there will be 15 minutes of a musical interlude, followed by the main event of singing together. Frenkel 13 is launching a new midweek night, Fresh run by Soda Fabric‘s Gil Abroamov. Yaniv Detroit will play everything from rock to acid techno and there’s also a live band – Charmer, which the organisers swear is the most promising Israeli alternative trio since Plastic Venus and Hamachshefot. I’ve not seen them so I can’t confirm or deny, but it’s free. From 21:30.

Thursday 9/5

Psychedelic trance, psychedelic art, performance, you name it. The Comfort 13 has a massive night on from 21:00. It’s worth turning up early to see works by a bunch of local artists including Yasmin Bergner, Oum Kultov, MissMusa and many many more. Also, circus performance by Circoland. DJ forest will be playing in the background. From 23:00 the party will really kick off and at 1:00 there’s a live show by Akot. Also on the bill:

1984 @ the Deli from 22:00. Your favourite dark 80s night, this time with a Legendary Pink Dots special, as this most awesome band is coming to perform in Israel next month. You’ll be able to buy CDs, merch and tickets for the gig at the party, as well as win some CDs. Free entry for the first half hour, then 20NIS on the door, including a free chaser of booze.

It’s Saturday evening in Tel Aviv, I hope you’ve had a good weekend. But hey, it’s not over till it’s over. So if you’re still going, or missed out on the whole thing, head down to the Bootleg club from 20:00 – 2:00ish where there’s a Digger party – a totally free rave party with a whole load of DJs playing 30 minute sets each. The Docaviv festival is back with a programme packed full of cool documentaries from all over the world. This year, they even have a good English section on their website, so I don’t have to tell you about everything myself. Visit their site for the full schedule of films. You can also buy tickets there.

But apart from in-cinema screenings, they’re also holding a bunch of cool, free outdoor screenings this year, which will also feature some of Tel Aviv’s finest DJs playing topical music before and after the film.

Most of these will happen in the Tel Aviv port (here is the programme of free events there), but there is also a screening of the Oscar-winning (I believe) Searching for Sugar Man which will happen in Habima Square next Thursday. More details about this screening here.

Fast food Orchestra & Niceland at Rothschild 12 from 22:00. Two bands from Czech Republic. Fast food orchestra plays ska in a rocksteady style but with a groove and even a touch of dancehall, apparently. Niceland play guitar driven experimental indie pop. Free and should be interesting.

For a completely different mood, you can join Shahaf Ifhar for his piano show singing localised versions of songs by Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and more. It promises to be both sad and funny and helping out will be two great local musicians, Yoni Livneh and Neta Weiner. Starts at 22:00 sharp. Costs 30NIS and is at Levontin 7.

And for a yet entirely different vibe, if you like death metal and noise (and I know some of my readers do, as I’ve had people complaining I never write about such things) then head down to the Koro from 21:00 where two bands dubbed “the heaviest in Israel” will be playing.
