It’s been said that Clapton has very large and, no doubt very strong hands. If your hands are smaller or if you haven’t played as long as Eric (and who has?) I don’t recommend trying to duplicate this thumb technique.

Here is an alternate way. In this tabs diagram are the main chords in the opening of the song, where the black numbers are the tabs and the red are the fingers. You basically use  bar chords and the fingering, in the first chord adds a chord note. Later when you slide back up to the am chord, make a quick switch back to the first fingerings.

I found a cool new music social networking site called BandPump. I think it will be big. It has all the necessary ingredients; You can set-up a profile and link to your website and, of course, you can upload some of your tunes. You also get points for being active and referring others.
