BASIC TECHIE TIPS FOR EVERYONE

Technology has a major impact on how we carry out our daily activities, whether you are a techie or not, you have to use one or more of the electronic devices on a daily basis, such as, computer, smartphone, router, tablet, etc. I would be writing a series on the basic tips that could make your life easier using these devices. Let’s get started with your home router

Basic Router Settings

Do you ever wonder what could be adjusted in your router, that could give it a better performance as it doesn’t come with a graphic user interface such as computers? Most devices in our home are connected wirelessly to the router such as Apple TV, gaming consoles, smartphone, etc. There are unique settings applicable to all devices connected to your router such as; network name (SSID) , wireless key/password , wireless encryption , wireless channel. These are the basic things that could be adjusted on your router. Now let’s look at how this could be adjusted;

Step 1

Navigate to the command prompt window on your computer or type run in the search box if you are using a Windows OS, this will bring up a search box that allows you to your search for components on your computer, type cmd in this box and that will bring up the command window

Step 2

Type ipconfig in the command prompt window and hit enter , that will come up with IP addresses on your computer , the one we are concerned about is the default gateway, the number mostly stats with 192.168. x .x , depending on your internet provider, take note of this number .

Step 3

Type in your default gateway (IP address copied above) in the url box on your browser, i.e., where you usually type web address on your web browser and hit enter .This should take you to the router gateway page on your computer and its mostly designed for you to log in with a username and password which is mostly provided by your internet provider. Call your internet provider for this username and password. Log in with those details if you already have them. In most cases, they are default username and password and could also be found on the web.

Step 4

Log in and change those settings I mentioned earlier; SSID , wireless password , wireless encryption, wireless key and wireless channel. This will not only make your router unique but will also add to the security feature of your network. For instance, wireless channel could be set to automatic or manual which would give you the opportunity to know the one that gives you a better Wi-Fi signal when changed .Your wireless password should be changed, in that case, you will be certain that no one will log in to your network anonymously as long as the security level is not open and the password is changed.

Despite the reported problem from hundreds of gamers regarding the new game console, over one million PlayStation 4 video game consoles were sold in its first 24 hours .

The Playstation 4 went on sale at midnight on 15 November, welcomed by numerous fans queuing for hours to lay their hands on the new console, which will launch in the UK on 29 November, a week after its rival, the Xbox One.

Shuhei Yoshida , president of worldwide studios at Sony Computer Entertainment tweeted: "PS4 has sold through over 1 million units within 24 hours of the launch in North America".

The news was echoed by Sony's head of publishing and developer relations, Adam Boyes, who appreciated gamers for getting the PS4 over the one million sales barrier which they encountered on the first day sales of their previous console (Playstation 3).

It appears that Drake's new album Nothing Was the Same has drawn the attention of many Nigerian artiste such as Davido and Wiz Kid that they had to stole one to two of his lines to cause argument on twitter. A week ago , Davido posted on his twitter page that "Bank account statement looking like I'm ready for early
retirement"

and yesterday Wiz Kid also posted "She just wanna sm#ke and f##k, thats all we do!haha.."

VICTOR MOSES SIGNS FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool signed Chelsea forward Victor Moses on loan for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old former Crystal Palace and Wigan player links up with central defenders Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori, who joined Liverpool for a fee up to £25 at Anfield.

"The target is to get into the top four and for the club to compete in the Champions League," said Moses.

"I just want to gel in, the formation and players here will help me."

Moses scored one goal in 23 Premier League appearances for Chelsea after his £9m move from Wigan last August.

The Nigeria international helped the Blues reach the final of the Europa League by scoring four goals in the competition, and was an unused substitute as Chelsea beat Benfica in the final.

But Moses has yet to feature in a game under new manager Jose Mourinho and has now been allowed to move to Anfield after watching Liverpool beat Manchester United(1 – 0) in a home match in the Premier League on Sunday.

"First and foremost, I'm delighted to have made the loan from Chelsea to a big club like Liverpool," says Moses

"The manager [Brendan Rodgers] has done very well. There are a lot of quality players here - they're winning games and creating chances. It's a massive thing for me to be here."

Oxford Dictionaries Online said the word, borrowed from hip hop culture, had become increasingly visible in the past 12 months.
