Benny Benassi @ SuCasa, Ulm

2011-01-14T14:16:00.001-08:00

For Italian Superstar Benny Benassi is the second time Djing at Su Casa, in Ulm, Germany. After a swirl of EuroHouse for Tecno succeeded at the age of 35 years with the track Satisfaction of global breakthrough. The single and the subsequent album Hypnotica reached high chart placings.Other pseudonyms under which are produced Benassi including KMC and 67th BatBenny Benassi is regarded as inspirer of a new electro-house scene. Typical of this particular house style is a playback speed between the typical house and techno tempo (130 bpm). Furthermore, the songs usually have a hard (progressive) droning electro-bass, often are also in contrast to the regular house electronic techno-like vocal samplings included in the House version.Meanwhile, Benny is working along side great artist like Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tiesto and single compilation with Public Enemy, with the Ying Yang Twins and up to date with the unique "Kelis".Line-up/Benny BenassiFlip RivaDate/ Friday January 14th, 2011Time/ 23:00pmVenue/ SuCasaAddress/ Am Lederhof 1, Ulm 89073 GermanyWeb/ www.sucasa-club.de

Erick Morillo @ Arkadia, Miami

2011-01-11T13:34:00.001-08:00

It’s time to break those boring New Year’s resolutions this Thursday night as Subliminal + Friends returns for our weekly session of midweek mayhem at Arkadia in Miami.Very special guest this week is the hughly talented Funkagenda, who’ll be helping banish any ideas of the party slowing down in January with one of his scintillating sets. After last week’s storming party with Subliminal Ibiza favourite DJ Roog (Hardsoul), we’re starting 2011 the way we mean to go on.

Arkadia is Fontainebleau’s newest addition brought to you by MMG Nightlife, the force behind award-winning LIV nightclub. Arkadia thrives on the element of surprise. Intimate, sexy alcoves deliberately designed and arranged by celebrated visionary Francois Frossard, make it possible for guests to lose their sense of time and inhibitions.

Evenings at Arkadia feature the world’s top DJs, fashion installations by the most sought after designers and the unexpected frisky thrill synonymous with Fontainebleau nightlife. The space has now become an ultra-modern lounge with an intimate space for just over 300 people, 25 tables for your favorite bottles, two bars and couch seating that all have perfect views of a DJ booth that is double in size and covered in mirrors.

The speakers in this place even have grills, so we expect a lot of ladies holding on and dancing to the beats.Speaking of beats, the musical format for Arkadia will primarily be house music (think Deep Dish, Robbie Rivera and Cedric Gervais) highlighted by the new Thursday night Subliminal and Friends parties hosted by DJ Erick Morillo. For the opening night on Oct. 28 The Martinez Brothers will be spinning, along Mednas and Antranig.Saturdays, with house music already dominating the lineup at sister space LIV, the music will be open format featuring DJ Ross One.

On Sundays, expect some of those same house music masters who played at LIV on a Saturday night to head over to the Arkadia pool and start the show when the doors open at 6 p.m. Then the party will move inside for the rest of the night.Pool? You read correctly, and we're not talking about the pool table inside Arkadia. The space also encompasses the small swimming pool space that was outside Blade. Expect a new set of furniture here (think Mondrian-esque) and a 21-and-over crowd. And why the name Arkadia? The space was actually the old arcade for the Fontainebleau resort back in the 70s and 80s and in tribute to that era the walls leading into the men's and women's bathrooms are plastered with copies of old magazine articles, photos and memorabilia.Looks like house music in Miami has found a new spot to play.

Richie Hawtin @ Complejo La Rural in Cordoba

2010-12-25T15:37:00.000-08:00

Richie Hawtin and Barem at Complejo La Rural in Cordoba, Argentina (Saturday, January 8, 2011). Canadian-born, Berlin-based Richie Hawtin for two decades has navigated the space between DJ and recording artist, constructing epic swaths of spatial microedits and spartan percussion. Using everything from the Roland TR-909 drum machine and outboard EFX processors to laptops augmented by Ableton Live and Native Instruments software, Hawtin has isolated, elongated, and condensed acid-etched techno and brought it to fields, forests, black-box art spaces, and megaclubs all around the world. Starting out in Windsor, Ontario, across the river from techno's birthplace of Detroit, Michigan, Hawtin has become an ambassador for deeply conceptual electronic music, constantly promoting new means to maximize minimalism.

Richie + Barem (Argentina) = Minus Special Night

The basic idea of our Minus Special is quite simple: two DJs, two stories, united under the Minus umbrella. Label daddy Richie Hawtin is in the turntable business for 15 years now, has coined Detroit Techno together with Carl Craig and got his finger in the worldwide techno scene. Although he originally comes from Canada, Richie Hawtin thinks of himself as an electronic globetrotter. After all, the tall, blond DJ graces about 25 nations with his sets per year. However, he started from scratch: teenage Richie was inspired by techno from Detroit, his father’s record collection and an affinity for video games and science fiction equally. Over ten years ago, he founded the label Minus, which still supports ambitious artists and DJs of the techno scene. One of those is the Argentine whippersnapper Barem, who calls his style “ponymal techno/ponymal house”. This mystical description paraphrases groovy minimal highlights with heavy bass lines and crafty synthie-samples. Barem met Richie Hawtin in Buenos Aires in 2005. By the help of the label boss Barem made his mark and, since back then, fascinates all dance floor junkies. Barem’s and Hawtin’s pooled forces will rock your socks off, so be prepared!.

Richie Hawtin at Blue Parrot in Playa del Carmen, Mexico (Tuesday, 4 January 2011). The Bpm Festival 2011 presents Richie Hawtin & Julien Loreto at Blue Parrot Beach Club.

In its few short years of existence, The BPM Festival has continued to expand and grow year after year, pushing its own boundaries, and constantly challenging itself to provide a world-class electronic music experience in one of the most spectacular beach locations on the planet.

Originally designed as an elite industry-networking event, the festival has morphed into an international mélange of electronic music lovers, DJs, producers, revelers and partygoers, all united to escape the winter doldrums and holiday in the sun.

Beautiful outdoor and indoor venues are spread around the resort town of Playa del Carmen, hosting parties day and night, along with a wide selection of the world's finest DJs. 2010's edition saw over 70 artists from around the globe take to the decks and this year promises to be even bigger, with more day parties and night parties to choose from on any given night, and with the addition of New Year's Eve.
Playa del Carmen is an idyllic, beautiful Mexican resort town, tucked into the coastline of the Mayan peninsula, 45 minutes south of the tourist haven Cancun. White sand beaches, turquoise waters, wonderful food, and lots--and lots--of sunshine await those who make the trip.

Timo Maas @ Cocoon Club in Frankfurt

2010-12-23T12:26:00.001-08:00

Timo Maas will be performing at 5 Years Connaisseur party in Cocoon Club, Frankfurt (Friday, January 28, 2011). Cocoon is the best designed club on the planet, Cocoon is Sven Vath's very own hometown creation. There's a dancefloor, bars and a restaurant with a really good chef.

Frankfurt is a business town. Arriving by train from Berlin, the contrast hits you as soon as you exit the station: instead of graffiti there is gleaming glass, instead of punks with dogs on the streets there are lost Japanese tourists, instead of apartment blocks that wouldn’t look out of place in communist Albania, the city center is punctuated by gleaming skyscrapers.

Frankfurt is the hometown of Sven Väth and his Cocoon empire, nowadays one of the most successful ventures in dance music. From its humble origins as a monthly night at local club U60311 back in the nineties, Väth has built Cocoon Inc. up into a label, an Ibiza residency, a booking agency, a brand even.

Since 2004, Cocoon has also been a fact on the ground: we’ve come to Frankfurt to check out Cocoon Club, Väth’s 1500-capacity nightclub and restaurant complex.
