A table full of pots and pans for $35 was first. Most of it looks to be Revere ware. There were two blue Le Creuset skillets in there too. I am not sure what else. I haven't gotten to it yet but there are two huge plastic totes full & we should do well. The second lot was the contents of a child's toy room. I wanted it because I spied several plush Disney character toys. I paid $50 for about 6 boxes of stuff plus the Fisher Price play kitchen. Before I got it packed some nice lady offered me $10 for two items that I didn't really want anyway. This left me just $40 in the red. Thanks, lady!

When I got home and started pulling out what I could sell on eBay & throwing away the trash there was a huge Meeko raccoon, a Shrek, Shrek Donkey, Princess Fiona, & a Warner Bros Pepe La Pew. There is also a Playskool 3 color changing flashlight like this. I nearly threw away a box of hats but at the last second looked them up and WHOA! (Post on this to come soon.)

What to do with the other stuff that was left? I no longer have a flea market booth. It costs too much, and is too much work to maintain. We had a lot of theft from our booth as well. Most of the time I don't miss it but it was a great place to dump items too nice to throw away but not worth enough to eBay. (or too big to ship easily.)

My little town has a couple of very popular Facebook groups for selling and trading. I feel this is safer than Craigslist because I know nearly everyone that ends up buying from me. But I have sold on Craigslist before and will again I am sure. On our little Facebook group a lot of the items are at yard sale prices. That is fine with me I just want rid of this stuff. So far today I have sold these things:

I sold them cheap, I am out of storage room & I just want it gone. They went for a combined total of $31. I am just $9 shy of getting my money back on the lot. I still have several things to sell locally plus I haven't listed any of the things that I bought for eBay yet. I will be a very happy seller if I can make another $9 locally and start those listings owing nothing but eBay fees.

Underwear is one of the things I have been reluctant to discuss on here. It is a little awkward to shop for at auctions and estate sales. But old ladies seem to ALWAYS have a big old drawer of square nylon panties. They know they aren't made like that anymore so they hang on to them.

If you aren't totally grossed out by the thought of vintage underwear check out this eBay link & hang on to your hat. They are EXPENSIVE. Look at how well they sell! They are often $2-3 for a box of bloomers at estate sales in my little town. Nobody wants to be seen buying used panties so they are fairly easy to find. If you want to give it a go look for well known brands like Vanity Fair, Kayser, Sans Souci, Olga, Vasserette etc. You want to look for nylon, lace, and sheer.

I listed two pair today for $12.99 each and they sold within minutes. This tells me my pricing was way too low. That is ok - I had nothing in them. I have never been brave enough to list them as high as those in the link I posted. I want them to hurry up and sell before one of y'all sees them and tells me you are going to tell my grandma. Nanny may be in her 80's but if she knew I was selling somebody's drawers in front of everybody she would shake her yardstick at me like she did when I was a girl. She never did anything but shake it at us kids but that was enough to get us to get us to behave.

I received this comment today from Julie at No Money Mama:

I've recently found some Chaleur & Starbucks mugs. I haven't listed them yet because I'm afraid to pack them up. I don't think I know how to do it properly. Can you tell me how you pack your mugs to make sure they make it to their new homes in one piece?

To me the most important thing to remember when packing anything is that the item should not move when shaken, and should not touch the sides of the box. If the item is fragile I usually double box. I wrap foam wrap sheets or bubble wrap around it and box in a little box. Then put that box inside a larger box with cushioning around it on all four sides. That is how I shipped the Watt Batman Grain rooster mug. I have seen one of my packages thrown from the postal worker across the room into the shipping bin like a free-throw basketball shoot. I nearly fainted! It definitely made an impact on my packaging. If they were willing to do that in front of me what happens when no one is looking?

I cushion with whatever I have available at the time, peanuts, air pillows, tissue paper, bubble wrap, foam sheets, thick foam (similar to mattress toppers). I rarely have anything arrive damaged, & never a mug. I hope this helps, & let us know how your sales go!

Ice Cream Freezer: A Minute On The Lips, A Lifetime On The Hips!

Picked this one up for $5. Of course I really want an old wood ice cream maker with a crank handle. I have fond memories of cranking "forever" as a kid. But at over $100 that's a pretty expensive bowl of ice cream! Maybe I will luck into one at a yard sale this year. My Mamaw Lee's specialty was homemade Butterfinger ice cream. My favorite is just plain old vanilla, or in the winter snow cream - YUM!

This one will likely end up for sale. But not until I have a bowl or two :)
It was pouring rain and cold so I didn't get up. About 10am I noticed that the seller was posting on Facebook that it was rain or shine. I piled the kids in the car and went, expecting it to be completely picked over. It was. I still managed to get a tupperware hamburger patty maker, a pair of Doc Martins, two pairs of name brand jeans, 6 bracelets, two star wars talking helmets for the kids. All for $8.75! (No time for pics today, I have to leave for work soon. Sorry.)

Did you buy anything today? It is round on the bottom & has a loop on one end for hanging. It is marked but I don' t recognize the hallmarks so will have to do a little research before I get it listed. I will not polish it, many collectors want the older patina left intact.

This large copper water pitcher was in the same seller's booth. Here is the lovely email she sent:

Hi, Thanks for sharing all of your finds on your blog and your experience with ebay! I love reading it and have just started selling. I have been enjoying it so far. I got this piece of pottery and would love any knowledge on it you might have. The bottom has writing on it and what I think it says is "pylesz ceramics" or "fylesz ceramics" the letter l could also be an "i", it is hard to tell. Thanks so much, Sarah

Does anyone recognize this pottery? Looking at the wording on the bottom I think it may be a studio piece, although a very good/interesting one. Studio pottery just means it was made by an individual potter, as opposed to a factory/mass produced. It does not mean it is of poor quality etc. That often does affect the value, as most collectors seek well known pieces. I think Sarah has a good eye, it is very interesting. If I am wrong and your recognize this, please post!

If you have an item that you need identified, feel free to email me pictures, measurements, and a description and I will feature you if I can. If I can't help maybe one of my readers can.

Favorite Ebay Sales This Week

Here are a few faves from the last week or so:
This vintage child's milk mug was a nice sale. The buyer had one as a child and was reclaiming an old favorite. It sold for $24.99

This Christian Dior men's robe was NWT at the thrift store on 1/2 price day. I found them listed on eBay, Etsy, Bonanzle, Craigslist, & Ruby Lane. But NONE of them had the maker listed. This started me thinking - we all have whats its we can't identify. Let's help each other! Now if you have a zillion dollar rarity I'm not your girl. But I know a little about a lot lol. I have been junking for years. I am sure many of you have a wealth of knowledge, too.

Feel free to email me a pic of something you need identification help with. I will try to periodically post it items here so we can all try to help. Sound good?

So to start, here is mine. I am going to guess that the W K is the manufacturer, but do any of you know?

That was my goal before bed. As soon as I shut off the computer I heard my phone cha-ching that I had a sale and logged back in to see what it was. It was the apple bowls below, that had only been listed a few hours. Here are my 3 favorite sales this week:

Knickerbocker Raggedy Ann in rough condition $10 - don't automatically throw things away because they aren't perfect!

The bowls were $8 & had only been listed a few hours. The planter was $1, & the Raggedy Ann was in that lot from an earlier post. I have long since recouped my money from that stuff so my cost was $0 for that one. I had some other sales, some great but a couple of duds I was glad to just get my money/fees back out of. We all buy duds sometimes, just part of the buisness.

I also had someone buy a cake pan then say it was "computer error" that she didn't mean to win it. A check of her bidding history revealed she made offers on 2 identical pans. They were both accepted, and so she wanted to back out. I let her, but grrrr at least be honest!

I have been working hard to put new things in the store. I would like to have 500 things listed before yard sale season starts. I need the space. There are currently just 178 items, and the new listings are selling well, so I had best get busy! Here is what I sold:

I do. So do many other "junkers" I know. I love to look at other people's stuff. I do catch myself thinking the same things with each show though:

People put very odd things in storage units. I see a lot of empty hangers & old mail.

The profits they say they will realize seem overinflated.

Brandi dresses like she is going to the prom? Auctions are hot & dirty most of the time.

I love Barry's quirky personality and I think he would be fun to hang out with. But it really bothers me to see him throw, break, & discard perfectly good but common household items looking for the rare things. I wish he would donate it to charity or even give it to the other buyers. Does this bother anyone else?

I have never bought a storage unit. The show makes me want to try it. Have you ever bought one?

The Last Shopping Trip of 2011 - Fun Finds!

Part of my New Year's resolution is to list as I buy. I ran home and got our treasures put into our eBay store right away. It has dwindled to a pitifully small amount of items, due in part to the number of shifts I have been working lately. Here are a few of the things we found:

Easy to pack, easy to store, easy to sell. I put mine in the store, priced fairly high, and use the best offer option. They fit in a #4 priority box so I always offer international shipping on them. These have all sold within the last month. I paid no more than $1 for any of them. Even with eBay fees it is a pretty good return for your money. There doesn't seem to be a lot of competition at yard sales and flea markets for them either. I find at least one mug nearly every time I shop.
That is a LOT of money for a coffee cup. But initial research showed that the online value from past sales is $800. The only other one listed was asking $799 too. I couldn't find any "real" sales. I decided to wait a while. This week I got an offer for $400 from the same person that made the $350 offer. I checked again and 2 of them sold on auction last week for $765 for the pair. The person that won looks to be a reseller, & is the person that offered to buy mine. Hmm...what to do? Pros & cons time.

Pros:
1.) $400 for a collectible in this economy is CrAzY good.
2.) I have nothing in the cup, it is all profit.
3.) I don't care if they are reselling it for more. I obviously can't - it has been listed for weeks.
4.) That amount of money will buy many other items to sell.
4.) I have a ton of <strike>junk</strike> fine collectibles around here gathering dust. I need to move inventory faster.

Cons:
1.) NONE

I hollered like that guy on storage wars - YUUUUUUP! Link to sale.

When my boys were smaller they had a Leapster. I would pick up games on clearance & yard sales and put away for a holiday or birthday. They have long since outgrown it but I keep finding games lying around. I took several to work this week and sold to a nurse friend for $35 for three games. Then I listed the others on eBay. I have sold two so far:
Madagascar L-Max New $19.99
Mr. Pencil's Learn To Draw & Write (used) $14.99

I bought 3 of these Nintendo DS games for $9.99 each on Black Friday last year. I gave one to my boys and sold one. I realized this one wasn't still in my store for some reason. It sold quickly after listing it again:
Nintendo DS Club Penguin Collector's Edition $34.99

My favorite was this Hall refrigerator dish. It may be a butter dish, not sure. It is marked Westinghouse as well as Hall. These sort of items used to come with new appliances for free. Those were the days! It is an odd shape - the letter U? an iron? We picked it up at the local thrift store this week for $3.50. It sold within a couple of days for $39.99! I saw some listed in yellow, blue, and red as well by other sellers. Pretty! Link to listing if you want to look.
Garrett has been back in a cast the last few weeks. This means traveling from Arkansas to Iowa every two weeks for a new one. I drive about 22 hours in two days to accomplish that. Plus my work as a nurse, & eBay when I can. Whew!

I am back though, and boy do I have news! BIG news. I have found something really great! I did 40 listings today. That is a lot for me. It was the easiest listing session I have ever done. There is a new app in the Apple store called Dragon Express. I talk into it, and it types what I say. So as I am measuring & weighing an item I can talk to my computer and my descriptions are DONE. With one click it will copy/paste it into Garage Sale, too! Perfect for those with typing fatigue or carpel tunnel issues. It was pricy, $50 - BUT - I did double what I can normally do in an afternoon. It probably paid for itself today, if not it will very soon. You can use it to type all your emails, post on Facebook -Twitter too!

It does type him him him him repeatedly when the dog barks lol but other than that I am thrilled! If you want to check it out the link is below.

*This is NOT a paid review, nor was the software given to me.

Yard Sale Find - Raggedy Ann & Andy Collection!

Aren't these cute! Some of the dolls have some wear and need a little cleaning up, but what a deal! We paid less than $20 for the whole collection. See the little tiny tea set in front? Adorable! Some of the dolls are Knickerbocker, some are knock-offs & some home made. The throw is cute too. I am working to get it all listed in my store this week. I think it is best to start them all at once. I am hoping someone looking to add to their collection will make offers on several things at once for combined shipping.

I usually link with Apron Thrift Girl, Coastal Charm, Bloggerativille, Her Library Adventures, Southern Hospitality, The Thrifty Groove, & My Uncommon Slice of Surburbia.
Happy Halloween! A few years ago it was such fun to dress my boys up as little pumpkins & puppies etc. Now they want to be yucky stuff like ninjas & zombies. They are getting so big! Speaking of Halloween...

Have any old Halloween napkins? Look at how much they sell for! The holiday ones are not the only ones that are collectible. Here is a link to all eBay vintage paper napkin sales. This is a CrAzY but fun thing to collect. Fun to sell, too. The easy packing/shipping is a nice bonus.
She called me on cloud 9 - they had a bunch of coffee mugs for $3 a box. She bought about 15 milk glass mugs, mostly Fire King. She also bought a Fire King Tulips shaker, & a grease jar. She said they had a lot more mugs so we went back to take another look.

The lady having the sale said mugs were now $1 a box. No mix/match you had to take everything in the box. Of course each box had one or two I wanted. I bought all of them. Sixteen boxes of coffee mugs! It took me an hour or so to look them all up. Out of those sixteen boxes I kept maybe fifteen more mugs. The rest - about 100 mugs - I put out by the street. They were gone in about five minutes.

When I saw this fabulous Watt rooster mug I was so excited! I love Watt pottery, it always sells well. I told myself GREAT that is probably $30 bucks or so. It has advertising so maybe $50. WRONG. The only one listed on eBay is at $799!!!! I nearly fell over from shock. Then I thought well maybe it isn't worth all that much the seller could be just a newbie, or a quack. I do not have a Watt book. I Googled and found nothing. I then posted on the eBay pottery and glass forum asking about mine. They were quick to link me to this site that is supposed to have fairly accurate online estimations of worth. They have a rooster pattern mug valued at $800.

I haven't cleaned mine or listed it yet. I am still looking at it and shaking my head in disbelief. I am not sure yet if the advertising will add or detract from the value. If you spot one anywhere, grab it! Mine does not say Watt on the bottom. Not all Watt is marked but it is very recognizable I think. The bottom of mine looks like this:

I sometimes wonder if I should keep blathering on here....was so sweet to receive this from one of you. I am glad one of my posts helped someone else. Thanks Sandy!

Hi,
I just want to say that I love reading your posts. I have been selling on Ebay for a long
time but I love learning about new possible items to sell and also hearing about other people's
great finds.
So I had read your Starbucks mugs post. Just this weekend, I was at a garage sale and there they were!
I found 5 Starbucks mugs! Only had to pay $2 each. One mug lists for $15, 3 list for about $25-$30 each, and the last
one is a rare one. It had only 1 listing for a buy it now of $200 but didn't sell. I can't wait to list my new finds!
Thanks so much for your great posts!
Sandy
I love the way my Iphone helps me eBay. I have mentioned before that I use a free eBay app to look up values at auctions and flea markets. Many times I have put things down that I thought had more value. Before I got it they would have ended up in my yard sale, money wasted.

I have also made a lot of money when a quick check shows the current selling value. Here are a couple of many examples that come to mind:

I used it last year for these Limoges Game Bird plates & made a great profit on them.

That wall lamp in my previous post was priced at $7. I thought that looks cheap but is it worth enough to be worth my time listing and packing it? A quick check didn't reveal my exact one but the others were high enough I knew it was ok. It sold right away for $49.99.

It also has a distinctive sound when I get a best offer. I love that! No matter where I am I can accept, reject, or counter.

You can shop, bid, add to your watch list, check your eBay messages, & even sell with it. I have not tried the selling feature, but it is there. Anyway, it is completely free. If you want to download or look at it, click the picture or the black button:
If you have any China now is the time to list it.

I found a beautiful set of Princess China last year. It was marked Lowell Bavaria on the back. A quick check on my phone showed there were no pieces on eBay. Replacements have some on their site really high. Sounds good, right? So I bought them, broke it up into lots and listed it in the store. One piece sold quickly and paid for all of it. The rest sat. And sat. And sat. I ran a sale. No sales. I lowered the price. No sales. UGH. Frustrating. It has been there so long the template doesn't even work correctly anymore.

I have an eBay app on my Iphone. It has a distinctive tone if I receive a best offer. It sounds a little like a gong. Wa Wong! I love to hear it. Last night at work during med pass it Wa Wonged six times in succession. I was thrilled & couldn't wait until I had a break to check it. Imagine my surprise! Some wonderful person made good offers on all of the china. I am so happy to see it going to a new home! Here is the link if you want to see. Patience is the key I guess!

We had more fun than I have had in years! My sweet parents treated all of us kids to a cruise to Mexico. There were 10 of us able to go. It was our Christmas present for this year. I am so thankful we are close-knit & enjoy doing things together. But the fun can't last forever. We came home to tons of sandy laundry, make-up school work, & of course our jobs.

Now that things are (our version of) normal again I have reopened our eBay store. Yesterday we made a quick trip to the flea market. The first thing we found was this lovely set of Fire King Fleurette dishes. It includes cups, saucers, creamer & sugar, plates, salad plates, bowls, platter, & serving bowl. I almost never find whole sets of Fire King dishes. Aren't they pretty?!

Then I spotted this lovely vintage glass wall lamp. It is beautiful!

And last but not least, the weird item of the week. Sometimes my sweet Mama has to try really hard not to look at me like I have two heads. She always looks for pretty, dainty, feminine things. I grab up the oddball stuff. This is a vintage Hy-Blo Balloon Inflator. There aren't any on eBay currently, but Google found several so I am hoping it will find a home quickly. If it doesn't I will get teased endlessly.

Total spent for all items - $29. Total for thirty minutes spent shopping with my Mama without kids in tow? Priceless!

I usually link with Apron Thrift Girl, Coastal Charm, Bloggerativille, Her Library Adventures, Southern Hospitality, The Thrifty Groove, & My Uncommon Slice of Surburbia.
