New blog

See my new blog at

www.dkphotographic.com/blog

I have finally taken the big girl step of moving my blog to my website. But... it means leaving this blog and my wordpress blog behind. And... leaving my wordpress site behind means a lot of posts where photos disappeared. Hard lesson learned.... It would have been great to be able to keep track of life.... No such luck. I apologize for the lack of photos on this site.

Hunter family photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:34:00 +0000

Don't tell my husband. I fell in love. I couldn't help it. At our first meeting, he stole my heart. He gave me a flower. He smiled shyly at first and then we laughed together... Alas, he's too young for me.

Okay, enough silliness. Truth is, this little guy and his parents are an absolutely adorable family and it's awesome that I got the chance to photograph them!

Utter and complete baby bliss!!

Danielle and Jason's wedding at the Darby House

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:29:00 +0000

Jason and Danielle got married and I was fortunate enough to be their photographer. It was an absolutely perfect day at The Darby House. What more could a photographer want? Sunshine? Check. Perfect temperature? Check. A gorgeous bride? Check. A handsome groom? Check. Details to die for? Check. A pretty venue? Check. Great vendors to work with? Check. Pure perfection.

Now, here's the fun fact. This was really a destination wedding. You see, Jason and Danielle just moved here from Arizona. Let me tell you, Danielle is a pretty awesome girl to leave Arizona weather for our lovely Columbus winters. Love makes you do crazy things. :) Thankfully, our springs/summers look pretty darn good. Lots of green.

First thing I have to say... Did you see her shoes????!!!!!

I have a little soft spot in my heart for the navy and orange color combo. It reminds me of our vow renewal. How adorable are these bridesmaids when seeing Danielle for the first time?

Ummmm. Is swoony a word? If it is, her bouquet is swoony. Great job All in Bloom.

Sigh... This picture....

The fellas are looking hella good.

He takes his drinks neat. His clothing is sharp and he gave his wife a fan-tabulous purse as a wedding gift. Sorry ladies, he's already taken.

Danielle originally wanted their wedding in a forest. Well.... close. :)

These two!!! They have so many pictures I love. I mean LOVE!! What is it about this one? Her expression? The way they're framed by the leaves? The veil? I can't put my finger on it but I LOVE it!And THIS!! I love THIS!

And this.... Okay. I'm repeating myself. I'll stop.

Here's a moment I might just remember for the rest of my life. Grandma came over and held Danielle's hands while her mom bustled her dress. Danielle asked Grandma about her wedding. The exchange was so sweet. It made me miss my Grams. If you have a grandparent, give them a big hug. They're awesome! And if you've read this blog before. You know how I feel about the first dance. Sigh....

Alas... the end of the night was destined to come but they set off in style!

It was an amazing day!! Thanks so much for letting me be there to capture it!

McD family photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:25:00 +0000

Have you ever heard of Duranceau park? I think it might be one of those hidden gems in C-bus. It's off of Fishinger Rd. The Griggs Boathouse is there. The whole park runs along the river and is a lovely little walk or ride. I met the McDonald family there for their session. Poor Gabe. He was such a trooper. He left soccer for family photos. I think he should get ice cream or something for that. I don't think my kids would leave soccer for anything and they definitely wouldn't leave it for family photos. So... Good on you, Gabe. And how did I repay him? By teasing him... relentlessly through the whole session. I know. Not nice. But... let the results speak for themselves. He smiled. :) And I have to say, the rest of his family looks pretty awesome as well. Thanks for letting me photograph you!

Bree's Senior Pictures

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:24:00 +0000

I feel like every session I do is pretty special. Capturing a moment in time for people is special in and of itself. Then, there's the fact that I've been so fortunate to have some amazing people to photograph. You all know who you are! You're my facebook friends, instagram pals, pinterest buds, and all around awesome people. I feel so lucky to have such a circle of people in my life. And, I'm humbled and so grateful that the circle keeps growing. The circle keeps getting bigger and better. Thank you so much for that!

That brings me to Bree. She's a fabulous addition to the circle! Aside from her sparkling personality, her soccer skills, her school spirit, she's a pretty fantastic model, too. Her eyes!! They seem to change color based on her surroundings... Sometimes green. Sometimes blue. So cool! Just check out her awesome session!

If you follow me on instagram, you saw the black and white version of this photo. It's my favorite photo of the moment. But, I'm totally torn!!! Color? Or Black and white? There's so much to love about both! I'd love to hear which one is your favorite!

Thank you so much for letting me capture these images! I'm probably going to recruit you for more. :) Have an amazing senior year!!!

Hetal and Ameya

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:23:00 +0000

How cute are these two?! And I can't even begin to talk about her dress. I love it so much!

Since I teased him so much about his GQ photo, I thought I should share it. :)

Um... Hello.... LOVE this photo!

It's official. They're adorable.

Thanks Hetal and Ameya for letting me capture some photos for you!! Best wishes!!

Chris and Kelly's engagement session

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:21:00 +0000

: Engagement photos at the Horseshoe

Like I told you in my last post, I'm not good at January. It's funny to me. I work like a crazy person during warm months then an even crazier person leading up to the holidays. Every year, I get excited about January because I'll get to relax and do what I want to and blah blah blah. Then, January comes and I'm moping round the house because I want to be out working. I'm ridiculous. Good thing people like me even with all my quirks.

So this year, I'm opting to do something I've never done before. In the busy months, I don't get the opportunity to share ALL my pictures I'm taking. I want to. I really do but when I get busy, blogging goes to the bottom of the list. And please don't think that I blog my favorites only. That's really not the case. It's all about time. If I've got it after editing the photos, they go on the blog. My priority is always getting people's pictures to them asap. So... Let's share some photos, shall we?

First up... Kelly and Chris!!

Kelly was the AWESOME maid of honor and Megan and Jake's wedding back in September. Let me tell you. This chick is cool! She was really there for Megan. A few things didn't go as smoothly as a bride would hope and Kelly was right in there... taking care of business and taking it off the bride's shoulders. On top of that, she gave a great speech!! So, I was pretty excited to get the chance to be her photographer!! Being a die hard Buckeye, we started and ended at the Shoe.

Hard to say

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:20:00 +0000

I know you know what I mean. It's so hard to say. You know you should say it but you really don't want to. You stubbornly deny until... you just can't deny it any more. You have to face reality. And you say it. You turn to your husband and you say it...

You're right.

Ugh...

So here I am... In front of all the interwebs saying it. "Andy Keidel, you are RIGHT."

"What is he right about?", you ask. He's right about me. He knows me. After 17 years together and 16 years in business, he knows me. Doesn't he know that a girl likes to think she can still keep her man guessing? Apparently not. He knows.

You see. It's January, otherwise known as my down-time, the time of year I get to be a "normal" person with a social life. I get to go watch my kids play sports. My day to day life isn't consumed with scheduling sessions because Brrrr... It's January in OHIO! I'm not under any crushing holiday deadlines. I'm not juggling my whole business on the head of a pin. It's quiet. It's relaxed. I have a few things, a few manageable things on my to do list. I putter around my house, fixing and cleaning. And you know what?

I'm not good at January. I get a little depressed and a little stir-crazy this time of year. And when I whine to my husband, he says... "You're better when you're doing."

He knows me and he's right. I'm better when I'm doing.

Hope you're doing something today that fills your heart and makes you smile.

Kara's senior pictures

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:19:00 +0000

You know the beautiful thing about being in business for 15 years... Getting to know someone and watching them grow. In this case, I've watched her grow up. We met when she was in preschool. She just wouldn't smile for me. She wasn't rude. She wasn't ornery. She just didn't want to smile. I offered to try again when mom picked her up. Mom and I tried again. She just wasn't interested in smiling... until I bribed her with chewing gum. Then... all smiles. Little did I know that one little piece of chewing gum would be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I photograph their family every year and this year, it was time for senior photos. SO excited!

Seriously... She's gorgeous! And not only that... she's a sweetheart too. So grateful for that day in preschool and a pack of gum. Love ya Kara!

Erin, Pat & Reaghan's family photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Sat, 02 Jan 2016 14:18:00 +0000

You know... when you have friends that are so much more than friends? They're like family. That's these guys.

I've known Pat for years. Then, he sweetened the deal by adding Erin to the mix. She's definitely the icing on the cake. And Reaghan??? Um... Cutest little nugget!!!

Happy Fall!! Love you all!!

Kim and Sean's wedding

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:27:00 +0000

I think you know that I take my job personally. I put my heart into it. How could I not? I am humbled by the chance to document people's memories. It's always important and personal to me. Yet, sometimes, it's more personal. This wedding was one of those times. I've known Kim for years. I can't exactly remember when we met. Maybe it was at Hanby middle school or maybe it was at Blendon Junior High. (Honestly, my childhood memories are a smidge fuzzy. I've lived a bit since then.) Anyway... Kim and I, we go back. Like most... we went through high school and went our way in life. We reunited at, of all obvious things, a class reunion. Thanks to facebook, we stayed in touch.

A few years ago, I photographed her son's senior photos. Then, on facebook, I started to see a hint that maybe she had found someone. Sure enough... One day a proposal photo popped up in my feed. SO exciting! Thankfully, she asked me to be a part of her day.

Kim works for Westerville's parks and recreation department. Her office is in the Everal Barn. Most people don't want to get married where they work but Kim would be an exceptional exception. For her, it was the absolute perfect location. I think she chose well.

Look at that smile. THAT is what an in an inappropriate joke will get ya!

GORGEOUS!

That's Michelle... Kim's maid of honor, best friend and an awesome woman.

Yet another awesome high school friend, Tracey, and her two fabulous daughters.

SEAN!!! Our handsome groom...

Tracey sang during the service. I am so envious of her ability to do that. It's pretty special to sing at your friend's wedding.

Hot....

Now... It's time to have a party!!!

Her first dance images were so sweet... Yet more examples as to why I love the first dance.

Great night. Right?! Yep... But it's not over.

We went to the Old Bag of Nails or some libations and a live band!

So... the band is The Debits. And... they were AWESOME!! I HIGHLY recommend them! Look at her. This giggly face hasn't changed much since school. Love her! More high school pals. I think this wedding could be called "Reunion... Light".

It was a fun night! So glad I got to be there and capture some fun stuff as well as see some old friends. Congratulations Kim and Sean!!!

Megan and Jake's wedding

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:24:00 +0000

Fall... sigh....

I LOVE fall. Boots and sweaters, hot cocoa and pumpkin bread, cooler weather and leaves alive with color. Sigh... And a fall wedding? LOVE it! It makes my little photo heart happy!

We started at the Renaissance downtown.

Loved this group of girls! SO much fun!

Jake met us at Arch Park for the "official" first look.

A tear may have been shed. I won't tell if it was Jake or me.

It never ceases to amaze me how much calmer couples are after seeing each other.

I am a bit obsessed with this photo.

The whole awesome gang!!

After some fun time with the gang, we headed up North to Worthington, St. Michael's parish. It's such a beautiful church!

After the ceremony, we were off to The Athenaeum. Fun times were about to be had...

So grateful I got to be there on this special day!!

The Lamb family

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:21:00 +0000

It was one of those times... Their first choice photographer was already booked. The put the call out on facebook for an alternative and one of my wonderful client/friends spoke up. I got the call. And I'm so glad I did because it was a great session!

Andy, Melanie and Asher's family photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:20:00 +0000

Want to know one of the best things about my job? I get to meet awesome people when they get married and then... later on they come back with awesome little people in tow. And Asher is an AWESOME little guy. He's got personality PLUS!

This face!! Adorable!

He's adorable and he's a nature lover. :)

He and I were playing around while his parents changed clothes. Remember when you were a kid and you'd spin till you got dizzy? He did and here's the result. I know it's not for everyone but there's something about it I really love.

So happy to see Andy and Melanie again! And had a blast playing with Archer!!

Luci's Senior photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:19:00 +0000

Some things just stop you in your tracks. I met Luci when she was a toddler. A toddler!!! Now, she's a high school SENIOR!! Her dad is one of my hubby's best friends and the Best Man at our wedding. I love this girl so much. She's sweet and funny and very smart. So proud of her and can't wait to see her take on the big old world of college. She'll be awesome. While we're at it, she pretty much rocked her senior session.

Andrew and Laura's wedding at the Lakes

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:18:00 +0000

The Lakes is a gorgeous venue. Add a fun loving, adorable couple and we have a recipe for a fabulous wedding.

I love this detail...

This photo makes me sigh.

Adorable!!

You know I love a little sun flare. Love this shot from the hubster.

I think they are pretty darn perfect together.

Every now and then I get the itch to do new things... I am playing with lighting. This is powerful but there's something about it I really like. Do you?

Checking out the ring....Detail...And more detail...

Congratulations Laura and Andrew!! SOOOOO happy for you and I'm very grateful you chose me as your photographer!

Angel

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:15:00 +0000

Want to see a super cute family? Good! 'Cause I've got one to share with you. Angel works with Andy at Mother Nationwide and I was really excited to meet her and her awesome kiddos. It was an awesome morning up at Alum Creek.

These brave, awesome souls were even willing to play in the water for me. MAN!! I love that!

So stoked to make new friends!! Have an awesome (albeit rainy) day!

Tyler's Senior photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:14:00 +0000

A couple of years ago, I took some senior photos for an adorable girl named Holly. Guess what?! She has a younger brother, Tyler, and he's actually just as awesome as she is. So fun to spend a little time with him before he jetted off to a tennis match.

Gender Reveal Session

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:12:00 +0000

Yes... These are my two kids and yes... sometimes you just let the photos speak for themselves.

Welcome to the family little Angus... even if your sister isn't thrilled.

Kim and Sean's engagement photos

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:11:00 +0000

Do you remember high school? Even though I'm a few years removed it, I still remember it. And thanks to a couple of reunions and social media, I've reconnected with several awesome people. One of those awesome people is Kim. And oddly enough, even as adults our conversations sometimes turn to.... you guessed it.... guys! We talked about good ones and bad ones and ones that got away. Thankfully, I got the call that Kim found "the one" and they're getting married. How amazing is that?!

"The one" is Sean and he sure makes Kim happy. He even managed to propose to her in the most "Kim" way possible. He asked her to marry him at a Browns game. My die hard fan of a friend said "yes!" They shared a couple photos with me. Want to see? Her face is priceless!!!!

Fast forward a few month.... Wedding planning is happening and I get the call for wedding photography. :) And where there's a wedding, there is an engagement and engagement photos. Being good Westerville girls, that's where we took our photos. Uptown first....

Aren't they adorable?!

Then.... Hoover. Such a beauty day. I LOVE photos by water.

Allie and Josh in Kentucky

noreply@blogger.com (Donna Keidel) — Wed, 30 Dec 2015 18:11:00 +0000

Hmmm? A session in Kentucky? Yes.. Please...

We started out at the Woodford Reserve Distillery.

Sweet....

Unfortunately, Woodford Reserve isn't exactly in the lovebird biz... They were far more concerned about closing time. Fortunately, I had taken the "scenic route" in and saw this fabulous field.

I LOVE this one!!!

I think this one might go on my wall. :)

In a sweet little twist of fate, the farm's manager had come to check on the horses. He brought them to us. It was AH-may-ZING!

And yeah... we snuck back to Woodford for some photos by their beautiful gates.

Another wrong turn on the way to our 2nd destination and this creek with this gorgeous light was right there. Sigh...

When a distillery doesn't work out totally, a winery is a great back up.

And we still got the barrel photos we wanted. :)

Can't wait till their wedding next September!! It's going to be awesome!!!
