If you are in the Kansas City area come to the coolest fireworks tent in the metro. At the Dlo Water tent you aren’t just burning money away. When you make things go BOOM all the money we make goes to give life saving water to those who need it most. Let’s see what we can do this 4th of July. We are fortunate to live in this country and to bring change to those who so desperately thirst for it.

We are located just north of the Applebees on 291 North in Lee’s Summit. See where our tent is located below.

This friend, who we will call Hope, spends her Sunday evenings on the streets- after dark- talking one-on-one with “working women”. Recently Hope purchased several cases of dLO water singing praises of our work in the water sector and encouraging us to “keep up the good work!”. When asked what her plans were for the cases she replied with a warm smile saying, “I’m takin’ them to the street! I like to give the prostitutes something to help start up a conversation and bottled water is something we’ve been using for a long time, they appreciate it. So why not use dLO!”. Here we are being complimented by such an amazing woman doing such amazing work every weekend, Sunday after Sunday, sharing her love, her story and hope with the seemingly hopeless. How humbling for us at dlO water! Knowing that each bottle offers an opportunity to open up conversation and hopefully rescue a young woman from prostitution! We are eager to participate even more with this organization and plan to provide water to Hope at no cost for her Sunday night street visits. Indeed it is awesome to be a part of Hope’s street work and we wish many good things for Veronica’s Voice and the work they do!

To learn more about the sex industry in the United States and how thousands of Americans suffer from sex trafficking, prostitution and exploitation visit Veronica’s Voice.

Today, International Women’s Day, is a great day to give props to some heroic females! They don’t wear capes, they are not wealthy, in fact most of them don’t have any clothes or money… or houses, or cars or food and water! They are the brave women who are struggling right now just to survive.

97% of those who suffer and die from the world water crisis are of developing countries. Whether it be famine, drought, poverty, politics, corruption… these women are faced with the pain of hunger, thirst and poverty. They wake early to search for water, they cook small amounts of rice to feed their families, they handwash clothing, they are weary from heat, from illness, from just trying to survive!

We want to encourage the women of means, who have clothing, homes, food and water to pause and think about how they can incorporate their story into the lives of the marginalized, the poor, the widowed, the needy. dLO water solutes the women in poverty working so hard to save their families lives. They are the unknown heroines whose voices must be heard. Let your story collide with theirs and you too can become a voice and a hero!

There is something to be said about the drive, the talent, the voice many college students hold…. we joke and say college students like that could make the world go ’round in a peaceful, powerful way. So to this, we say “WE LOVE OUR INTERNS!” and we hope through their semester of experience and adventure with dLO water they will come to love us too! Our Spring 2012 intern, Amber, shares our passion for developing countries and the needs in impoverished communities around the world. Here’s a bit about Amber- according to Amber herself…

I’m a senior public relations major at the University of Central Missouri and can’t wait to get my career rolling when I graduate. When I’m not busy with school and work at the local library, I enjoy the outdoors, biking and running, and am a book lover. I have to admit though that if there’s a good movie to watch I’ll put down my books and go inside to enjoy it by myself or with friends.

Aside from all that, I’ve developed a growing interest in the needs and problems that are facing many people throughout the world. I’m rather new to the water crisis, but as I research and become more aware of what is going on, I want to help make as many changes as I can. Lately I’ve been thinking about how often I take for granted the fact that all I have to do for a drink of water is walk down the hall and turn on my faucet. There are children and families all over the world that trek mile after mile to get the water they need. Many times I have jokingly said “I’m dying of thirst” without even thinking. As I continue to learn more and more I feel it would benefit me to think twice before making statements such as this. Hopefully through dLo water and other companies and organizations awareness will grow of the crisis that is occurring in countries such as Haiti and countries around the world.

Welcome Amber.

This recent article excites us to no end… a story from Christianity Today’s February 2012 issue. Entitled “Cost-Effective Compassion: Economist rate the impact of 10 popular strategies for helping the poor”… Bruce Wydick details and ranks the top 10 most effective uses for your given buck (so glad to see giving to clean water initiatives ranked #1!)

Sixteen researchers responded to the survey. They are from Cornell, Duke, Yale, the University of Maryland, UC-Berkeley, Stanford, George Washington, UC-Santa Cruz, the University of Minnesota, Brandeis, Michigan State, Tufts, and the World Bank. Of the respondents, five are members of the Association of Christian Economists. And they showed remarkable consensus in their ratings. Virtually none of the highly rated poverty interventions received low marks from any of the responders. Likewise, virtually none of the lowly rated programs received high marks. I did not include my own rankings in the survey, but I do comment on each. The following are the results in order of greatest estimated impact to the least, followed organizations that use that strategy…

And ranking #1… Get clean water to rural villages.
(Rating: 8.3)

One million children die from drinking unclean water each year. Clean water can prevent legions of child health problems and dramatically reduce infant mortality. Scientific evidence is overwhelmingly positive on impact. A World Health Organization study estimates that the availability of clean water in a rural village reduces infant mortality by 35 to 50 percent, at a cost of roughly $10 per person per year. Because infant mortality rates in the poorest countries often range from 60 to 110 per 1,000 live births, the cost of saving a child’s life by providing clean water alone may lie in the range of only $180 to $400. To development economists, cheap-plus-effective is an endearing combination.
