Games:

I like brain games – and I downloaded a couple I really like  - some of these are made for the iPhone/iPod so the screen is not optimized for the iPad unless otherwise specified.

Cash Cab –  Cost .99 – Just like the TV show and made by Capcom mobile this is a trivia game you play while riding in a virtual cab – fun trivia game more than worth the .99. Not optimized for the iPad, but even at 2X the screen looks great

FourFree – Free..A game to waste time with – kind of like tic tac toe, pretty difficult to win – but there are a variety of games if you are looking for a game you can easily waste a few minutes with and not care if you have to stop on short notice.  Not optimized for the iPad

Geared – Free trial or .99 to get the version with tons of levels. A thinking game where you take different size gears and put them together so that the wheels turn – gets very challenging as the game goes on, but also easy to quit and not care too much. Not optimized for the iPad

Sol Free – Free.  Some great solitaire games can be a great way to waste some time.  Bakers game, Demon, Klondike, Spiderette are all included in the free version. Not optimized for the iPad

U Connect – Free to try, $1.99 to buy.  Created by IGN games. I downloaded the free version and powered through this in no time.  Are your brain and your finger connected is the screen opener – then you get a variety of puzzles to ‘conect the dots’ without crossing over lines and taking your finger off the screen.  Gets more and more complicated – a great puzzle game.

Scrabble - I paid $2.99 for the iPhone version and now coughed up $9.99 for the even prettier iPad version.  I already enjoy this game and the HD version for the iPad makes this even more enjoyable.  You can select options to play against your Facebook friends, local network, pass and play with someone or even party play – but most of the time I just enjoy a hearty game against the computer.  You have the ability to set your iTunes music in the background or use the sounds that come with the game. The game keeps your stats (I haven’t lost yet!) and you can set difficulty levels and also pick your dictionary.  They have most every option covered, and I really recommend this game!

Moron Test – .99 – Go ahead….try this out! Are you a complete idiot or just a little brain damaged – this game challenges you to think quickly and make correct choices or go back to square one!  A really addictive game that can be frustrating at times (I wish you could over ride the ‘go back to the start’).  I still haven’t completed this game, but I am at least out of ‘grade school’ levels now!  Funny music plays in the back ground and cute little animations/flash cards where you need to quickly select an answer, but make sure you are thinking on your toes!

Applications for social networking:

I have downloaded Facebook (of course) and Twitterific (basic Twitter functions)  Both  of these applications need to step up and optimize for the iPad – I don’t like the fuzzy 2x screen shots!

Other Useful Applications

DropBox – Free.  This could be one of the more useful applicaitions I have downloaded.  The product places an icon on any computer I download to – inluding the iPad, my 2 laptops and my desktop.  All I need to do in order to share a file between all my sources is simply drag and drop the file to the icon on my desktop or toolbar.  I can now access this file (documents, pictures, video, etc.) from any computer connected to the internet.  I LOVE the idea of being able to share my documents quickly and easily without having to port around a USB drive.  I just tried this today and was able to quickly share AND update a document – as soon as I made changes on my iPad, it updated all my information.

This is a great way to collaborate with colleagues on a document easily and stay connected using your iPad and laptops.  The service allows you to keep up to 2GB of information for free on the server and they have different plans for bigger users.  Very handy!

Magazines –

All of these magazines take full advantage of the iPad technology – full screen and beautiful graphics.

Wired Magazine – $4.99 and so worth it! Get a taste of interactive magazines.  I really believe this is the future of media – interactive print and a way for publishers to show more than just words – Wired Magazine is making the most out of touch screen media and advertising add in video and touch screen media. A truly interactive magazine experience.

Popular Science – $4.99 and worth it! Another fascinating magazine taking full advantage of the iPad technology.  The layout is beautiful with floating screens and break apart columns – takes a few minutes to figure out the flow of how to read this – but very cool and worth a look.

Other publications….. Men’s Health, Canadian Business Mobile, Financial Times, Arizona Central – all good applications – but the experience is pretty much the same as a web page.  Still awesome way to become mobile with your favorite media! The Financial Times is probably the best of the bunch here…but this changes quickly!

I have also downloaded the Kindle app, but haven’t figured out how to get this to sync with my Kindle, iBooks from Apple which is an amazing reading experience.

Other Entertainment Applications…

Sound hound - Free. This is the application that you can use to identify songs – worked pretty good even on the stuff I just sang into the microphone!

Sirius Radio - Free.  This application allows me to stream my favorite Sirius Satellite stations – now Howard Stern can follow me everywhere!

Flixster – Free.  My favorite application for checking out movie previews and ratings and also get me show times.

WebMD - Free.  Type in your symptoms and get a result for what ails you

ScoreMobile – Free.  Keep up with all your favorite sports teams and live stats.  Includes video streaming as well – a great application for the sports fan

PGA Tour – Free.  Another great sports application that will keep you updated on the PGA tour live.

Air Video – Free.  What a great application that you can use to stream the video content from your computer to your iPad! Download the ‘server’ software to your computer and you will have a ‘pin’ number which you use to gain access to your media on your iPad from anywhere.  You can password protect the content.  Very cool!

Epicurious -Free.  A great way to have a cookbook with you while you shop! Having trouble figuring out what to make for supper – look up recipies and search any way you can think of to find something that appeals to you.  Then you can simply create a shopping list and presto…good to go!

DMDrep - Free.  An Electronic business card that includes links to all my social networking sites, media and RSS feeds.  I developed this more with you in mind than myself – cost about $100 to get the application developed, then about $5 per month to maintain my spot at iTunes.  There are links on my application so you can create your own with appmi.

Wow – this turned into a mega blog! I am really enjoying my iPad so far and will update down the road as I find more useful applications.

The 3 minute purifying system for your patients appliances! Available exclusively through Henry Schein – a product you should have available for your patients protection! I just ordered one for my own mouthguard. The case seems pretty sturdy, and there is a little UV light in the box that activates when you press the button and close the lid. If the product performs as the website indicates, I am very happy! Up until now, I just rinsed my appliance and sprayed Listerine on it to disinfect. I never really trusted this method, but I didn’t have a better method. This seems to be the answer!
