Studio Clearance Sale: Fodla -- You choose the price!

The next "you name the price" painting being featured is "Fodla", acrylic, 16 x 16 on canvas. (Original price: $349). This painting is a meditation on one of the three goddess queens of sovereignty for Ireland. The three sisters were Fodla, Banba and Eriu. When the humans came to colonize what was to be known as Ireland, the queens willingly gave the land to them in exchange for their names be used for the island. Each have their names have since been used in poetry and literature, with Eriu being the most commonly used, eventually becoming Ireland.

This painting was created using a glazing technique. It requires many many thin layers of paint placed over each other to create the luminous quality and varying range of colors and values. The reference for this painting was the patina on a statue from Rittenhouse Park in Philadelphia, PA. I am sure it would fit in nicely to a home or office that needs a cool color palette and a modern or primitive design element. (Please keep in mind the image here is slightly more green than the original painting, which tends toward a cooler blue-green. I am clearing out space to make room for new work and would like to find happy homes for my previous work. I have a lot of new work that will be emerging in the next year and I am limited in space to keep my work. Because I am very desperate for space, I am offering a once in a life time deal. Believe me, that this is not something I will ever do again in my lifetime as an artist, so don't miss out!

I am selling selected pieces at a "you name the price" cost (plus shipping and handling if needed). That means if you like one of my pieces you can determine the price! (and I mean any price!) The painting could be yours on your budget! Think about it, you could own an original painting of your very own and now there is no reason for you not to!

I will be posting pieces regularly between now and the December holidays. You are welcome to view my gallery and if you see a piece that interests you, please inquire. Not all my work will be for sale, but you never know the one you like may be available.

I am also doing this as a way to say thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years as I continue to build my artistic career. I am about to embark on a huge leap forward creatively and this is due in large part to the continued support from all of you!

The first piece I am offering is "Mars: Valles Marineris", acrylic, 24 x 24 on canvas. (Original price: $349) It is an abstract painting based on my meditations on the planet Mars. It was created using a palette knife and features a highly textured surface. Some of the paint has pumice, granite and lava mixed into it. The Faery Haven

From the "Secret Book of the Faery" by Earl Evermore (1889)

"Do not enter a Faery haven, unless you have been invited in. For to do so is to risk being taken prisoner and never seen again. If you are unlucky enough not to be taken by the Faery, they will likely put a spell on you, which results in the chemistry of your brain to be altered. You will never be the same. A life of suffering will be yours until the end.

You will recognize a Faery Haven by the extreme wildness of the area. Sometimes there will be a quality to a place that makes it odd or different than the surrounding area. A thick growth of green amidst the dead leaves and bare trees of autumn is likely a Faery Haven.

Do not destroy or otherwise harm a Faery Haven, for it is the home of the spirit of the area. To cause harm to the Haven is like piercing the heart of a person, damage to the haven will effect the entire area, not just the Haven.

I fear that there will be a day when too many Faery Havens will be destroyed and the well being of the natural environment will suffer. If the landscape suffers, so shall we. For humans are merely one form of expression of the natural world in which we live. "

The Path

"Why is the path always so difficult?" he asked.
"The path is only as difficult as you make it." Was the answer.
"But, I don't want it to be difficult, I am not making the path so!" He protested.
"Your desire for the path to be anything other than it is makes it difficult. Do not want anything, just walk the path with open eyes."
"But that is difficult!" He complained.
"There was a time in your life where taking one step after another was a joy. Remember that time."
"Yes," he said thoughtfully. "Hey! Look! A lovely bird! Let's get a little closer!"

I didn't know that Forsythia bloomed again in Autumn. I am used to their brilliant yellow arching wands in spring. What a surprise to see the delicate yellow blossoms amid the yellowing leaves.
