These changes seem to be targeting points brokers that purchase award miles and then book tickets with miles (normally in business or first). While I’m sympathetic to trying to shut these brokers down to free up award space I don’t think it should be at the expense of harming real users and these changes are definitely too harsh and poorly thought out. Looks like there might still be some work arounds. 

I’m also really against anything that makes miles already earned so much more difficult to use. For example the activation condition seems needlessly extreme. Just a good reminder that the best miles are redeemed miles. 

Paze is offering an incredible deal of spend $10, get $10 back offer with a limit of 10 per card. This is definitely the deal of the year currently as many readers have several cards (with some of us having 30+ meaning $3,000+ back). Unfortunately the easy options like gift cards from Newegg (including Newegg’s own gift cards) and Dunkin reloads now seem to mostly be closed. 

This post will look at other options to use this offer on. This is a work in progress so please share your tips and tricks in the comments below. Please keep discussion of the general deal/gift cards/reloads to the original post linked here. 

Clover (Local Restaurants)

A reader points us to this helpful website with hundreds of restaurants who use Clover Online Ordering which accept Paze. Presumably the credit should post for any Paze checkout, including these Clover restaurant orders.

There is another option here that also lets you filter by gift cards.

Domino’s

• Easiest option seems to be purchasing a large for $8.99 + tax + round up gets you to $10. Some areas have larges for $7.99 so you’ll need to add additional items. 

Dunkin 

Reloads are no longer working, but you can still use it for regular purchases. You can also still buy gift cards doing the following: Follow these work flow Dunkin App > Scan/Pay > Pay Another Way > Add A Dunkin’ Card > No > Next > Choose $10 > Paze.

Fanatics

They are still selling $10 gift cards. Some people are getting blocked after making one purchase, spacing purchases out by 20 minutes might help avoid this.

PayRange

Is the $10 before or after shipping is included?

Whatever shows up on your statement so shipping would be included. For example if an item is $5 with $10 shipping the total on your statement will show as $15 and trigger the credit. 

Is $10 before or after taxes?

Whatever shows on your statement, so if the item is $9 + $2 tax (total $11) it would trigger the credit.

Our Verdict

This info is coming from a Chase memo circulating among bankers. It appears that the new 100k offer will be both in branch and online. Referral bonus was increased to 40,000 points on these cards – it’s possible that referral links will have the 100k bonus as well, we’ll have to wait and see.

Standard offer on these no-fee cards has always been either 75,000 or 90,000. This upcoming 100,000 offer is the highest ever: despite the slightly higher spend requirement, this is an amazing offer for a no-fee card. We’ll add this to our list of Best Current Credit Card Signup Bonuses when it goes live.

For a while now, the INK Preferred ($95 fee) card has been offering 100k points bonus, so that’s another option to consider.

Important note: the INK cards now have a lifetime limit which is enforced with a popup. (The INK Preferred has a lifetime limit as well.)

Our Verdict

Previously the offers with no lifetime language have been 60,000 miles + $50 statement credit on the Gold card and lower bonuses on the other two cards. We’ve never seen that $200 statement credit deal as far as I’m aware. The downside to that offer is the $1,000 in Delta spend required. I imagine a lot of people would just prefer the 75,000 + $50 deal as a single purchase triggers the $50 credit rather than requiring $1,000 in spend.

If you’re targeted and have had the card before then I think either deal is worth doing as normally you wouldn’t be eligible for the sign up bonus again (even if you won’t hit the $1,000 in Delta spend required for the $200 bonus). As always read these things everybody should know about American Express if you have any questions. Our Verdict

Top line negative changes are the annual fee increases, the removal of the 5x utilities and 8x gas on the Business card, and the removal of gas from earning 5x/6x on the Earner and Plus cards.

Positive changes include the Plus card increased anniversary bonus and meal delivery credit, the Business card wholesale club and accounting software credits, the added 3x/4x/5x categories on the various cards, and the potentially easier signup bonus.

Many people will prefer the Business card, but there is a case for paying an extra $246 annually to get the new Premier card – you get a $100 streaming credit, $100 Wyndham hotel credit, an additional 15,000 anniversary points, and some other perks. The Fine Print

• The credit will be posted to one qualifying account within 7 days after the funding requirement is met. Fees

• There is no monthly fee but there is an inactivity fee. Free account plans that log in to their trading solution but do not make any trades in the live trading environment every 30 days will be assessed a fee of $35
• They also charge you for market data, this is an option to choose during sign up and each option has a fee. You can opt out of this market data (very bottom of the screen) but something to be aware of. There is some market data that can be included for free, but if your balance is $0 they will charge $12 so just opt out. If you accidentally signed up for it you can cancel it here.

Our Verdict

The market data fee seems relatively easy to avoid during sign up, the main issue is the inactivity fee so you’ll need to make a trade every 30 days (or more often). You’ll probably need to keep the account open for 90 days (at least 60 days for the bonus to post) so realistically looking at a minimum of three trades. Easiest should be to take one micro trade for a tick each month and you only pay the commission (about $1). There might also be a two month grace period.

Seems like you can join, deposit $100, wait 60 days and then withdraw $200? Very possible I’ve missed something obvious though (update: what I missed were the fees now mentioned above). Don’t see any other ways to stack this unfortunately. Futures trading finance bros seems like a natural fit for MMA gym bros. In fact the Venn diagram might just be two overlapping circles.

Our Verdict

A lot to digest here. The annual credits on this card are actually pretty good and help offset the $395 annual fee. For many people, the $100 streaming credit and $65 wholesale club credit will be almost like cash. The monthly meal delivery credit and $100 Wyndham hotel credit are also easy-ish to use. Combined with the 30,000 anniversary points and the other hotel benefits, there is a case to be made for this card.

Biggest question is whether these benefits justify paying an extra $246 in annual fees more than the Wyndham Earner Business card, which also offers Diamond status and ongoing benefits.

For a one year signup, many people will prefer the Premier card due to the annual credits which reset in January – you can get $200 in streaming credits and $200 in hotel credits during the first year. 

For a long term keeper card, I think a case can be made for either the Premier or the Business card.

Our Verdict

ExpressVPN is a popular VPN service and so this is a good chance to try them out. I bought the most expensive plan which is VIP for 28 months and the cost was $209.72 without any sales tax for me. My purchase tracked in less than an hour and I got an email from ShopBack with the pending cashback details, noting that “$251.66 coming your way soon”.

ExpressVPN has a 30 day money back guarantee. If there’s some issue with the portal tracking I’ll simply cancel the service within 30 days. If the portal tracks, I’ll keep the service for the 28 months. I’ll make a note to myself to cancel before the 28 months is over, if I don’t want to pay the next subscription fee. You can also turn off auto-renew and decide later whether to renew. 

The only real ‘risk’ with this deal is if the portal does track, yet somehow ends up not paying out (payout won’t occur until around 90-100 days). I considered that a minimal risk, and so I got in on this deal for the $42 moneymaker + some credit card points (for me it’s an extra ~$8 with the U.S. Bank Smartly 4% card).

I may also try out the VPN service if I need it, as I’ve heard of ExpressVPN in the past. I have not yet downloaded the VPN, and I  don’t think that would be a requirement for the portal tracking since the portal payout should be for the purchase.

Our Verdict

Nice rewards rate for shoe purchases. I’m seeing 45% in my Capital One Shopping account and in one email. In another email I see 50%.
