hello - sorry blogging has been so sporadic!

been busy doing lots of stuff - like making new embroidered hoop designs to list in my etsy shop…

hope all is well with whoever stumbles along here :)

I'm doing my first craft show ever!

if you're in the Kansas City area I hope you'll stop by and say hi :)

more than 100 Hallmark employees will display and offer their personal artwork for sale. a wide array of artwork will be available including textiles, children's tents, sculptures, art quilts, jewelry, oil and watercolor paintings, and photography. these pieces are the personal work of the participants, created outside of their jobs with Hallmark.

admission is free

and free parking is available in the crown center parking garages

(the one on the east side of grand is the closest to the square)

in addition there will be live music by anchovy fisherman from 11-3 and food/drink/bathrooms are

easily accessible at panera or in crown center for your convenience.

time does indeed fly…it's been awhile since I posted & oddly enough it coincided with a change of role in my full time job, funny how that worked!

actually not that funny…it was a bumpy initial transition but it's gotten better recently so I'm hopefully that I'll be back to blogging a bit more in the near future.

in the moments I did have to get something done I managed to work on some new items for the shop & I'm happy to announce they're now available...

the last one is a customizable variation on my paint by number hoops that I think might be a nice wedding or anniversary gift…I'm curious to see how it's received.

tonight I'm getting together with friends who are moving to NYC in a couple days…I'm so sad to see them go but very excited for them since I know this is going to be great for them & that they will be very happy there.

it's still hard though…

so here's to anyone saying goodbye today, or making a big change, or moving, or dealing with any kind of something that's a little scary or sad…

it'll be okay :)

handmade valentines recap

every special occasion or holiday I always have great plans to do something handmade for people…but it doesn't always work out…or I don't get as much done as I'd hoped…or even get started in the first place :P

this year I only got two projects completed…

the pillow diy is from martha stewart via pinterest

and the t-shirt was my first attempt at freezer paper stenciling

…I must be one of the last people around who hasn't tried it yet!

I was surprised how well the stencil stuck to the fabric & how easily it came off…I'm definitely going to be doing it more often :)

…and next year I swear, more handmade valentine's day gifts!

there are three things I love to see when I'm out & about:

1 - thrift stores

2 - old signs

3 - old cars

the thrift stores allow me the opportunity to find & own something vintage but the signs & cars are different…I can't take them home with me so I take their pictures.

I love that they're both still around…it makes me happy to see them still being used & cared for. so I thought this week (and periodically in the future) I'd share some of the cars I've met since I moved to KC.

to say I love my house is an understatement…I know how lucky I am to have been at the right place at the right time & to have the opportunity to live in such a special place. I'm also quite proud of the fact that it is pretty much entirely decorated with things I have thrifted :)

last summer I decided to take a two day road trip to springfield, mo - stopping along the way to take pictures & shop at thrift stores. to do this effectively I choose to take the back roads rather than the highway on the way there so instead of the approx. 3 hours it would normally take it took me 8!

but it was so much fun to just happen upon all those little towns along the way :)

by the time I got to springfield I was tired & it was getting dark so I checked into my hotel, got a burger then hit the hay. the next day I got up bright & early, explored the city then took off back for home…on the highway with just some quick stops here & there so it only took me around 5 hours :P

I didn't thrift anything exciting but for me just driving & taking pictures is what it's really about…I get the itch as soon as the weather starts getting nice around this time of the year…not sure where it will be this spring yet but I'm starting to think about it. any suggestions?
