type='text'>Useful Tips for First Time Dog Owners

Dogs make such wonderful pets. That is why many first time pet owners choose to take care of dogs over other possible pets. People who take on the responsibility of owning a dog as a pet should realize that it is a major responsibility - and first time dog owners should especially take note of this.

Probably the most important thing that a first time dog owner should realize is that dogs should be treated just like as members of the family. If you are a first time dog owner and you are not ready to treat a dog that way, then it is likely that it is not yet time for you to take care of one.

If you are able to take care of your dog - particularly if it is still a puppy - in much the same way that you would care for a child of your own then that's certainly a good thing, plus you can be assured of being loved back by your dog and the great loyalty that comes with that type of relationship. So for first time dog owners, it would be good for you to know of some useful tips on how you could take care of your dog better.
A first time dog owner would be well advised to get a puppy rather than a full grown dog. It would be easier for a first time owner to deal with a puppy since it would be much easier to teach it and take care of it rather than a full grown dog that might not be trained properly at all. A good idea would be to enroll the puppy in an obedience class, as it would allow for proper training that would be beneficial for everyone that would come into contact with the dog - not only the owner.
Naturally, a new dog owner would have to learn all about the health and nutrition of his pet. Whatever health or nutrition related issues there is, he would need to know all about it so that he would be able to deal with it if there is any problem that's related to it. Regular check ups and consultations with the vet is definitely ideal for the dog, and the dog owner would have to ask for exercises that are specific to the dog's breed and would be most beneficial to it. The kind of dog food should also have to be exactly right for the dog's age and size, so that it would grow properly.
It is important that you dog-proof your home. This is actually not too different from child-proofing your home, where you would now have to prioritize the safety of your dog when it comes to your home. You need to make sure that there no small items lying around that could potentially pose some harm to your dogs, and you can count small toys and other little objects among those that can pose some potential danger. And not only small objects could pose some threat to your dogs, as there are certain plants that could prove poisonous to them. So it is also important that you know what those plants are.
If you are looking for affordable pet insurance for your precious furry family members, then you are in the right place. We offer dog insurance and cat insurance at prices you can afford. Our cheap pet insurance plans provide you the best coverage for your money.

View the original article here

Want a Pet? Get Yourself a Pit Bull

So many people have pets. It is estimated that about twenty percent of the world's population owns dogs. Dogs have always been liked for their unwavering loyalty (which cats tend to exhibit less of) and friendliness. There are about a hundred and fifty breeds of dogs that are recognized by the American Kennel Club. However, there are estimated to be close to five thousand breeds that are not registered. From this wide range it is certainly difficult to determine which breed is best for you. It is said, though, that it is the dog that chooses you.

There are certain breeds that are very popular. For example the dachshund. The German shepherd is liked for its resilience and strength. The pug is loved for the way it looks. People buy Rottweilers and mastiffs for security purposes. The poodle is preferred in elitist circles. A generally under rated and yet excellent breed, that most people tend to ignore or overlook is called the Pitbull.

The Pitbull actually is not a specific breed; it is more of a combination of breeds. DNA analysis indicates that Pitbulls have varying genes of different breeds in them. This shows clearly that, rather than being a particular breed, the Pitbull is classified as such, because of certain characteristics of body and build. It is actually difficult to determine that a dog is Pitbull, just by looking at it, but generally they are characterized by short and stocky build and slightly bulldog-like features. Of course, this is a generalization and there are numerous exceptions to his rule.

PitBull Terriers are indigenous to America. They were originally developed to have the determination and tenacity of a terrier, as well as the raw athleticism and lithe characteristics of a bulldog. The experiment worked remarkably well, spawning a breed that would delight owners for years to come. They are widely recognized as being extremely determined and tenacious, whatever the cause. They are also very strong, often maiming other dogs in fights. However, they are known to be brimming with affection for humans, and they are extremely loyal. Any owner of this loving pet will tell you that their dog has nothing but love for them.

The standard greeting they used to offer will be to run up to the person and lick their face. They are known to be very friendly. They also love physical activity and are always full of energy. This is very good news if you are a sports maven or love running and jogging. Also, there is something about them that is comforting and reassuring in times of mental crisis. They are widely known as 'therapy dogs'. And most importantly, they love kids. Again, there may be exceptions to this, but generally they take to children immediately. All these traits make for an excellent pet. And now there are sites and companies which offer Pitbull puppies for sale, and they even ship them down.

Pitbull is a great companion. Loving, loyal, friendly and at the same time strong and agile. They will be great friends to you and your children alike. Find a company where there are pitbull puppies for sale now! They needed super amounts of stamina and grit for bouts that lasted up to six hours and often ended in both dogs dying from exhaustion. Today, most pit bulls have maintained their ancestors' boundless energy and endurance and can run and play all day long. For pit bull owners, this level of energy and intensity can be a challenge to keep up with. Fortunately, the growing dog sport of weight pulling has become a fantastic and humane way for pit bulls to utilize their genetic gifts and burn off tons of energy in the process. They have legendary reputations for tremendous strength and willingness to please their owners, which makes them the ideal breed for this sport.

If you are interested in having your pit bull participate in weight pulling, here are some helpful answers to some common questions!

Q: What materials will I need to train my dog to weight pull?
A: The main things you will need are a healthy dog, time and patients! Everything after that is simple. You will need a weight pull harness that fits the size of your dog and a cart to attach it to.

Q: At what age can I begin training?
A: Around the age of 6 months your dog will be able to start pulling light weight. Puppies and young dogs that are still maturing can be damaged if introduced to weight too soon, the pulling can harm the way their bones and joints mature. By the age of 18 Months, your dog will have fully developed muscles and connective tissue to pull heavier weights.

Q: Do I need a weight pulling harness to get him used to it ahead of time?
A: No, a regular harness leash will work fine to get your pit bull used to the feel of it. Do NOT have your dog pulling weight with a regular harness. Use it only to get your dog used to the feeling of a harness, or he will pull every time you put it on him.

Q: When my dog is ready for training, how do I introduce the weight pull harness?
A: Put the weight pull harness on the dog and play with him. He will then associate the harness with playing or fun. Walk around with the dog while he is wearing the harness. Pit bulls love to please their owner, so make sure you are praising him to keep him motivated!

Q: How do I teach the pull command?
A: Make your dog "stay" in place with the harness on, then call him back to you with the word you want to use as the command to pull, such as "pull" or "work". Make sure you pick a word to use that you will stick with. If you try to change commands, it will only confuse your dog.

Q: Should I use "bait"?
A: This is a controversial question. If you decide to use bait, make sure you do NOT use any thing that resembles animals or humans. Aside from being potentially dangerous, using any such item will get your dog disqualified during an event! Teaching your dog to pull on command is a lot easier and does not cause any confusion to the dog.

Q: When is my pit bull ready for weight?
A: Once your pit bull is comfortable wearing the harness and responding to your command, it is time to introduce some weight. A 1-10 pound weight plate or tire tied to a cable is a good start. If you made the experience fun from the beginning, your dog will probably run to you like there is nothing on him. Make sure you go easy the first month. After each pulling set, make sure you are constantly rewarding your dog with praise or treats. Practice with the same weight for about a month to get him used to the feel of pulling, and then gradually increase the weight over time. Make sure your dog spends a couple of weeks working with each weight increase before introducing heavier weights.

Keep in mind that there is a good deal of money involved in the sport of weight pulling such as purchasing equipment, training and traveling to events. If you have the means, however, it can give your dog focus, build his confidence, and also strengthen your bond.

For more pit bull products and resources go to http://bullpitbulls.com/

View the original article here

Best Flea Control For Dogs With Vinegar

Protect your dogs against fleas and ticks with vinegar

Vinegar is known as an effective natural flea medication that most of the pet owners are still unaware of. It is readily available and that too at truly affordable prices. It does not kill fleas but rather repels the pesky insects.

It tastes bad, smells bad and is very acidic. As a result, it is no surprise that the annoying fleas do not like it. It can be used in various ways, either as a topical spray or in the form of a diet supplement. The moment fleas feel or smell the vinegar aura coming from dogs they instantly steer up.

5 ways of using vinegar to keep fleas at bay-

1. Using vinegar as a flea medication is truly effective in preventing flea infestations on cats and dogs, regarded as the best flea control for dogs, vinegar is a good alternative to using products containing harmful chemicals. Apart from working wonders, it is something that every pet owner have in their house. As per a research, parasites and fleas hate the sour stench of vinegar and hence has proven effective in getting rid of them.

2. Vinegar can also be used as a pet shampoo. It is not only economical but also helps fleas to fall off from the pet's body. All that pet owners need is half cup of dishwashing soap, half cup of vinegar and a tub of warm water. Upon bathing, the annoying fleas will fall off in the water. To ensure that the fleas no longer stick on the dog's coat, thoroughly comb the fur of the dog post dipping it in the solution of diluted vinegar.

3. Mix together two pints of water and one-third cup of vinegar and transfer this into a spray bottle. Spray this mixture on drapery, beds, or couch covers but ensure that vinegar is not used in excess as it is likely to disintegrate the draperies and beds prior to the removal of fleas.

4. Adding one teaspoon of vinegar to the dog's water is also one of the best flea medication. Drinking this water will surely make the skin of the dog acidic which fleas find to be less tasty.

5. Vinegar also acts as a flea trap. Simply pouring vinegar in a bowl and leaving it undisturbed in areas where fleas infest the most will also help to prevent fleas. The next morning one will find heaps of fleas inside the bowl.

Apart from these, vinegar also helps to clean the dog's ears by neutralizing fungus as well as preventing yeast from gathering in their ears. Vinegar is indeed one of the best flea control for dogs.

Generic Frontline Plus is known for its high quality pet supplies. They are also aware of convention and tend to make an effort not to let their dog get in anyone else's way. But some municipal, state, and federal laws really take the cake when it comes to deciding what is and isn't appropriate and acceptable behavior in relation to dogs.

In Turin, Italy, all dog owners take their dog-walking responsibilities seriously, because if they don't, they will have to pay a fine. So unless you want to pay some serious cash, you better take your dog out at least three times a day, every single day, regardless of breed.

Elsewhere, the one-child policy is in effect for dogs as well. In Shanghai, China, no one can have more than one dog as a pet at a time. For this reason, any puppies born to your dog must be given away by the age of three months, and of course the new owner can't already have a dog of their own. Kubla Khan would not do very well under this law, since he allegedly owned five thousand mastiffs.

In Oklahoma, USA, there is no way you can get away with teasing a dog. In fact, you will be arrested for making "ugly faces" at a dog. A similar provision exists in the awesomely named Normal, Illinois. You better treat those animals with real respect!

Here's one for the pacifists of the world. In the entire state of North Carolina, dogs and cats are not allowed to fight. It is illegal. I'm not sure what the punishment is. Jail time?

Owners with sick dogs should take not that in London, England, it is not permissible to carry a rabid dog in a taxi. So if you were planning on travelling to the vet by cab, you better think again.

In Boulder, Colorado, you cannot own an animal as a pet. You can keep a dog in your home as a pet, but you do not legally own it. You are a "pet minder," not an owner.

People who go to bed early and enjoy their evening and night-time peace and quiet should move to Little Rock, Arkansas, where it is illegal for a dog to bark after six o'clock. Better break out the muzzles and sedatives.

Freedom of assembly does not seem to apply to dogs in Oklahoma, even if the state does respect their emotional sensitivity, as mentioned above. At least, on private property, more than two dogs cannot gather without a permit signed by the mayor. It's good to know that residents' tax money is going to good use.

Dogs living in Ohio have even more to fear. Not only are their constitutional rights ignored, but a police officer can even bite a dog that is being loud in order to make it stop. I wonder how many police officers have tried that and how effective it was.

Other animals certainly have their own fair share of weird laws, but dogs seem to bear the brunt of it. Maybe it is because they have shared the lives of humans for as long as humans had domesticated animals. Or maybe it's just because they are so prevalent as pets these days, so they stay on people's minds. Whatever it is, this kind of legislation will certainly keep owners - or pet minders - on their toes when they travel from place to place. It might be good to check up on local restrictions, because you don't want to end up in jail for looking at a dog the wrong way.

Ivan's Puppies has been breeding and training puppies for over 30 years. Our hard work has been paying off, as now we are proud to be breeding Bulldog litters with excellent quality, with little to no health problems and good temperaments. This is available from a variety of sources including the internet, books and DVDs. The following dog training tips are designed to help dog owners understand what is needed of them to create a strong bond between themselves and their pets, as well as creating a safe environment for the dog and all those around it.

1. Establish leadership and boundaries - Dogs are pack animals and respond to the leader of the pack. If the owner of a dog is seen to have moments of weakness, the dog will assume that it they who are in charge and all future commands from the owner will be wasted. It should be clear from the very start who the leader is and what is expected of the dog.

2. Be patient - When teaching a dog a new command, it is important to be patient. Shouting or punishing the dog by hitting them will only serve to confuse and scare the animal. If an owner can feel their patience slipping, it is time to end the training session.

3. Reward and correct - Dogs do not automatically know what a command is. By showing them what is expected of them and rewarding them, owners are giving the dogs a reason to do what is asked of them. If a dog does not respond correctly to a command, the owner should correct their behavior.

4. Consistency is key - Once the boundaries have been set, it is imperative that the owner keeps maintains the course of action which has been set. If a dog is rewarded one minute for behavior and then the next time it is ignored, they will become unsure of what they are supposed to be doing.

5. Keep sessions short - By doing this, dog owners are less likely to become impatient and dogs can quite often be very similar to small children in that their attention span is not as great as the trainer might like. A few minutes of dog training each day is more than enough for both parties.

6. Practice somewhere quiet - Whilst the goal may be to go into a park and be able to retrieve the dog no matter how many other distractions are around, it will take time to get to this point. In the early days especially, it is essential that dogs should be trained in a quiet place with as few distractions as possible. After training is finished though, it is a great idea to take them out somewhere and have a play with them as a final enforcement for their good behavior during training.

7. Start as early as possible - Dog training should begin as soon as possible after the dog has become a member of the family. Whilst it is easier to teach puppies, those people who rescue dogs which are older will be able to achieve the same results, even if it takes a while longer. The key is to be patient but persistent.

Visit Pruitt Yorkies for your free dog training advice. One source of companionship which many elderly people turn to is getting a pet. Many studies have shown that caring for a pet can reduce anxiety and has a number of health benefits as well. A dog is an excellent choice of pet, but especially for older people, it's important to consider the amount of care and attention that a dog will need.

Many seniors want the companionship and affection of a dog, but would rather avoid the difficulties which come with caring for a larger dog. However, a smaller dog, such as many toy breeds, are a good match for senior lifestyles. A small dog is easier to transport when it's time for a visit to the veterinarian and in many cases, are better suited to a life largely spent indoors. Basically, calmer breeds which require less in the way of outdoor play and exercise are usually a better choice for elderly persons.

It's important to remember that dogs are very much individuals and that every breed has its share of bad apples. That said, the following are toy breeds which tend to be good pets for senior citizens.

Scottish Terriers

Often called Scotties, these smaller members of the terrier family originated, as the name suggests, in Scotland. Their fur is short and wiry and these dogs tend to shed relatively little. They're on the larger side of the toy breeds spectrum, usually weighing in somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds. They're a breed which loves spending time their owners and crave companionship. Scottish terriers are a very intelligent breed and learn tricks readily as well as being famed for their loyalty.

Cocker Spaniels

This is a breed which needs little introduction. These soulful-eyed, curly-haired dogs are a great pet for elderly persons. They tend to need an average amount of exercise - a few short daily walks combined with a little indoor play time will meet the needs of most cocker spaniels. These are very affectionate dogs which love nothing more than snuggling up with their owners.

Pugs

Pugs may be small dogs, but they have big personalities and a lot of love to give. They need a little more attention than some other toy breeds, but they'll repay their owners for this attention handsomely in entertainment and affection. They're a playful breed, but do quite well living indoors (with regular walks, of course).

Yorkshire Terriers

More often known as Yorkies, Yorkshire terriers are known for their calm demeanor. They love to play, but are equally happy to lounge around or settle down on the sofa with their owners for a good snooze. Much like Scottish terriers, they're intelligent and very loyal. One thing that prospective Yorkie owners should be aware of is that these dogs do need regular grooming.

Read more about toy breed dogs for seniors. If you have one or even a few of these furry friends at home then you can attest to the fact that they are pretty pleasant to have around; let us face it, in some cases they are better company than human beings!

Now if you have a puppy, it is very important that you train it early on. There are a number of puppy training techniques; the following are a few tips that will help you as you go about the undertaking.

Get the timing right

The good news is that puppies are always more than willing to learn new things more so if you reward them whenever they get something right.

Be this as it may, it is important that you do not over do it. If you want to achieve the best results, make sure that training sessions do not exceed five minutes and preferably they should be before feeding time; the reason for the latter is because it is at this time that they will be more willing to work so that they can get fed. The brief sessions are necessary because puppies do not have a very long attention span.

Do not rush it

Puppies are just like small kids; you need patience to handle them. Do not expect your puppy to learn a certain command or trick the very first time you teach it.

It would be better if you could teach it one or two commands in one session and then only proceed to another set of commands when it has fully internalized the first set. Have this in mind when training your puppy: quality over quantity.

Avoid being harsh

There are times when your puppy will simply refuse to do what you say. Also you may find that it is not learning some commands as first as you would like; when this happens, it is important that you keep cool; do not scold it or even yell at it as this will not do much good.

Positivity will yield better results and therefore reward it whenever it gets something right and soon enough you will find that it responding positively.

Nipping is bad

Nipping is common among all puppies; at one time or another you will find the puppy nipping or chewing on shoes, carpets and other items.

It is important that you discourage this behavior and better yet, everyone in the family should get involved in this particular lesson. The best way of dealing with this is to provide the puppy with something like a rubber ball that it can chew on to its heart's content.

Go to obedience classes

Obedience classes can prove very helpful in forging better communication between you and your puppy. After these classes you will find that when you give your puppy various commands, it will respond more positively.

Dogs are naturally social animals, however they need some guidance so that they can relate well with other dogs and humans. It is your responsibility to provide this guidance from the get go, so go ahead and get started.

You have now been briefed on what to do if you possess a puppy, and you might want to find out more on how to stop puppy biting for good.

To access an article that will let you acquire specific understanding about stopping puppy biting, click on the link.

View the original article here

What Families With Small Children Should Consider When Selecting a Toy Breed Dog

Some people would say that no family is complete without a pet - and more specifically, a dog. However, not all breeds of dog are the right fit for every family, especially if the family in question includes small children. There are also many people who say that a small dog isn't necessarily a good choice for families with young children, but is by no means always the case. Of course, it's also true that some families simply don't have the space for a larger dog and in this case, toy breeds may be a better fit.

A wisely chosen small dog can be a perfect companion for young children, although there are some important considerations which need to be made before making a decision about what kind of dog to adopt. Different breeds have been selectively bred for different traits and of course (and this is very important!) there are individuals within every breed of dog, whether you're talking about the toy breeds or larger breeds, which don't quite fit in with what you'd expect given their breed.

There are some things that families should know about toy dogs which may make them an especially good (or problematic) choice, depending on the temperament of their children. Toy breeds tend to sleep a bit more than their larger counterparts and require a little less exercise as well. For some families with small children, these may be very desirable traits, while they may make them a little less of a good match for other families.

One thing that you'll have to decide is whether to adopt a puppy or an adult dog. Despite how cute puppies are and how much fun small children may have playing with a puppy, there are some advantages to adopting an adult dog instead. For instance, their personality is already developed, so you'll know what the dog is like before you take them home. Generally speaking, they've also been trained and housebroken already, so accidents, chewing and other undesirable behaviors are far less likely.

One thing about small dogs is that they generally don't act like it. They're just as territorial as larger dogs and don't seem to have a concept of how fragile they can be. They move fast, but they can get underfoot easily - or can be accidentally hurt by overly rambunctious children. That's actually the reason that toy breeds have a reputation as not being a good match for young kids; a small dog may feel threatened more easily by a child's innocent play than a larger dog and instinctively growl or bite in response.

Obviously, adopting any dog is something which should be done with careful consideration not only for your family's best interests, but those of the animal as well. Adopting a pet is a serious commitment and you'll need to be sure that you're ready and able to care for your new family member. As long as you know what you're getting into ahead of time and have taught your child how to treat your new dog, they can be a wonderful addition to your family and can help even small children to learn responsibility by helping to care for the dog.

With these words of caution in mind, you'll be ready to confidently select your new canine family member. A well-chosen toy dog will be a part of your family's happy memories for many years to come.

Read about specific recommendations on toy breeds and small children. Renting an apartment comes with many restrictions and can put a significant damper on our lifestyles, especially for dog lovers. Many apartments are not suitable for most breeds of dogs because of space limitations and restrictions set forth by the landlords of apartments. Here is a guide to follow when choosing which dog will be the best fit for you and small apartment living.

When deciding on which breed of dog would be best for your small apartment, there are many things to consider. Dogs have very different personalities and needs, just like their human companions. Some dogs are very hyper while others are relaxed and laid back. Some breeds need a lot of living space to run around, exercise, and play while other dog breeds are perfectly content living in small spaces. Aside from the needs of each breed of dog, there are other things to consider as well before choosing your perfect apartment canine companion.

When living in such a small area such as an apartment, the size of the dog does matter. Consider the size of your apartment and the type of dog you would like to get. If you have very limited space say, a one bedroom apartment, bringing home a Golden Retriever may not be the best choice. While Golden Retrievers are great companions, they don't fit well with smaller apartments and living spaces.

The energy level of the dog is another thing to consider. If you work a full time job and know you will not be around much during the day, getting a high energy dog may not be the best decision. If you know you aren't available to take your dog out on regular walks and giving him regular exercise and play time then looking into adopting a low energy dog may be your best bet. There's nothing like coming home from a hard day at work and seeing your small apartment torn to shreds because your little four-legged companion needed to release some energy.

Age of the dog also plays a very important role when choosing a dog for your apartment. There are several pros and cons to consider when deciding between bringing home an adult dog that is already house-broken and trained and a puppy that needs a lot of TLC and discipline. Take your needs and the needs of your dog into consideration before deciding on a dog.

Having kids is another important factor to consider when deciding on which dog should join your family. Some dogs do not have the temperament or patience to be around children, especially young children. Some dogs are very patient and can handle the pulling and tugging of their tail or rough house play. Many breeds of dogs aren't that patient with children. Take this into consideration to avoid a possible bite or nip.

While dogs make excellent pets for many people, apartment life may not be the best environment for certain breeds of dogs. When deciding on a canine companion for your apartment living, do your research and take these things into consideration before making a final decision on which dog you want to join your family.

View the original article here

What Is Parvo In Dogs?

Canine Parvovirus Infection (CPV) is an acute viral disease which can easily be transmitted to susceptible dogs. The virus which causes the infections has a predilection for attacking cells particularly those lining the digestive tract.

Before the vaccine for Parvovirus was discovered, the number of dogs affected and the mortality statistics were at an all-time high. Although many dog owners are making sure that there dogs are protected from this highly contagious disease, there are still places where parvovirus infection threatens the lives of unprotected dogs.

Among the different age groups, mortality is highest among puppies between 6 weeks to 6 months old because their immune systems are not yet fully developed. Although they are undergoing vaccination during this time, their body still needs time to produce enough antibodies to mount a strong immune response against the viral infection.

Dogs which are suffering from CPV infection are highly susceptible to secondary bacterial infections which can contribute to its severity.

Disease Transmission

The virus that causes Parvo in dogs is shed in the infected dog's stool in large numbers for weeks following the infection. A dog can acquire the infection via ingestion or contact with infected feces.

Among the different dog breeds, Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers, Labrador retrievers, Pit Bulls, and German Shepherds appear to be more prone to getting infected by Canine Parvovirus.

Symptoms of Parvovirus Infection in Dogs

There are two forms of CPV infection which have been documented in dogs-the intestinal form and cardiac form. Between the two, the intestinal form is much more common.

The major clinical signs associated with the intestinal form of the disease include bloody diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, low body temperature, and severe dehydration. When left undiagnosed and untreated during the early phase of the disease, the affected dog will become dehydrated. As the virus attacks the cells of the gastrointestinal tract, the dog becomes weak from lack of fluid and nutrient absorption.

Diagnosis

A dog which is exhibiting signs of the infection should be brought immediately to the veterinarian. Dehydration should immediately be corrected for it can be life-threatening. Aside from the typical clinical signs, your vet may ask you about the dog's history including its vaccination records. Specific biochemical tests, x-rays and ultrasound of the abdomen, and urine analysis may be prescribed. Your dog's stool and vomit will also be examined for the presence of the virus.

Treatment Regimen

The intensive treatment regimen is designed to address and protect the dog from possible secondary bacterial infections.

The continual loss of blood, proteins, electrolytes and body fluids can kill an infected dog thus intravenous infusion of fluids and electrolytes is very important. Medications to stop the vomiting, treat diarrhea, and antibiotics are also part of the line of treatment for CPV infection.

Prevention

The best way to protect your dog against Canine Parvovirus infection is to follow the recommended protocol for vaccination. Puppies should start vaccination at six weeks old, followed by another shot at nine weeks and another at twelve weeks old. While they are still undergoing vaccination, exposure to other dogs should be kept at a minimum to ensure that they do not acquire the disease while their immune system is still busy making antibodies against Canine Parvovirus.

Senior Writer, Daily Wetnose
http://dailywetnose.com/

Ken is a dog lover (proud pet parent of 2 Min Pins) and is Senior Editor at Daily Wetnose. What about the Chinook or the Leonberger? There are so many amazing breeds of dogs out there, few of which anyone has ever heard of. It's those breeds of dogs that have been hiding under the rocks that can tend to be some of the best family dogs.

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog, more commonly known as the Polish Owczarek Nizinny. These dogs are medium sized dogs weighing in at about 35 to 55 pounds. The Polish Lowland Sheepdog is a non-shedding breed because they don't have fur; instead, they have hair. Even though they are considered a non-shedding breed, they do lose a significant amount of hair per day. These dogs are known to be working dogs and are bred for herding. Because of this, they need a significant amount of exercise and activity in order to be a good family pet. This is the only breed that is recognized by the AKC.

The Chinook is a very rare type of dog bred in New England during the early 20th century specifically for dog sledding. This breed of dog is very large and muscular and was intentionally bred to withstand the harsh northeast winters. The Chinook ranges from 55 to 90 pounds and are pure muscle. They are very hardworking dogs, make great family pets, and are very gentle and patient with children by instinct. While the Chinook breed is not currently part of the AKC Foundation, they are eligible to be included.

The Leonberger is one of the larger of these rare breeds weighing up to 200 pounds or more. Their water resistant coats are thick and medium in length. Don't let this breed's weight fool you; these dogs are very loving and gentle with children of all ages and exercise is not a priority for them. While most large breeds drool excessively, the Leonberger doesn't drool nearly as much. The one downfall of the Leo is that they shed extensively and will need a ton of grooming and care for their coats. This breed is also not recognized by the AKC although the process has started to get the Leo's part of the AKC.

The New Guinea Singing Dog is a relative of the Australian wild dog, the Dingo. This breed is native to New Guinea and has an amazingly unique ability to howl like a wolf. These Singers are able to change the pitch of their howl, something wolves can't do. They look like a fox and are believed to be extinct with captive dogs of this breed being extremely rare to find. Singers display primal behavior and are very intelligent making them hard to keep as domesticated family pets. An ongoing debate has been in the works as to whether or not this breed can even be domesticated.

Last but certainly not least, is the Catahoula Leopard Dog. This breed of dog can be seen on farms all over the United States but many people do not realize the type of dog they are looking at. This breed is also called the Louisiana Catahoula being declared the official dog of Louisiana in 1979. This breed of dog is considered a working dog and their appearances will greatly vary. Many of the Catahoula dogs have patches or spots with few having coats of solid colors. They are very independent dogs and need much activity and training.

View the original article here

Essentials For Your New Puppy

You have made the decision to bring home a bundle of joy in the form of a puppy! It will also allow you to start bonding with your new pup straight away, rather than having to start shopping for supplies.

Of course you will need a great supply of puppy food. They need a different type of food than what adult dogs do, as they require a lot more nutrients. Although they seem to need more food, it is more a case of little and often than giving them giant sized meals so make sure to purchase smaller bowls. You will then want to upgrade to larger ones as they grow up. Make sure that you have a water bowl as well and that it is always topped up, try to change it so the water is kept fresh throughout the day and night, with it finally changed just before you go to bed.

A collar is a very wise item to purchase. As animals get older they may not appreciate you trying to put a collar on them, but if they are used to it from a young age they will not even notice they are wearing one. Get a tag made with your details on, contact information such as home address and telephone number, just in case your beloved pet gets lost or runs off. It is a good idea to purchase a leash at the same time as you buy the collar as these are very important and necessary for wearing them out with long walks once they are old enough to leave your house. Make sure they have had the compulsory injections if needed beforehand.

Every puppy needs some toys. There will be times where you may have to leave them in the house for half an hour alone when popping to the shops, and the best way to keep them calm and entertained are specially designed dog toys. Give them their favourite teddy as a treat and they should be kept happy until you return. It is also a fun way for you to interact with your dog and keep them healthy by taking a ball or Frisbee to the park. Make sure that after all that running around they have a comfy bed to come home to for a nice sleep.

Zoe Robinson is an enthusiastic writer in the subject matter of pets and pet food. But, sometimes it's hard to relate that the bond goes both ways. A Florida man, Steve Gustafson, a 66-year-old grandfather, was trimming the trees around his property when he heard an unfortunate familiar and frightening yelp. He looked for the doggy cry for help and spotted a 7-foot alligator attempting to drag his West Highland Terrier, Bounce, into the nearby pond.

"I just knew that my best friend was going to be dead," he told the Orlando Sentinel during his story, speaking of his beloved pet. "And I took off."

The brave man began yelling at the gator to release Bounce from most certain death. Mr. Gustafson sprinted to the water's edge and leapt onto the back of the writhing reptile.

"... Just like you do some silly belly flop in a pool," he told the source. "The only difference was I landed on top of a gator."

This brave sole wrestled the brute, pushing and twisting the reptile's head to the bottom of the pond. The alligator spun from his grip, but Steve remained cool and collected, keeping a level head. He continued to fight the mighty predator, pushing it closer towards the ponds shore, eventually freeing Bounce from the jaws of his captor. Bounce was free and scampered to safety, Steve following as well, though he sustained a deep bite to his hand.

His wound required a few stitches, medical and vet treatment, but most importantly, both Bounce and his human survived. No doubt, the 9-year-old, 13 pound Terrier is extremely happy that his pet parent would have such love for him, he would battle a gator.

The Orlando Sentinel also spoke with alligator biologist Patrick Delaney, who said that gators are still thriving and hungry as ever at this time of year, largely due to metabolism spikes caused by the temperatures.

Though this is a heartwarming story, pursuing a pet into such a dangerous situation and environment can end far more tragically than what transpired in Florida. When considering predators, prevention as pet safety is a more efficient method. Have cats stay indoors and keep dogs on tethers very close to the house, and only when you're outside to watch them. Every part of the country has wild animals, from coyotes to foxes to alligators, any of which can prove to be potential dangers for even the bravest pets. Know the safety tips and be wary, especially in rural areas.

Isaac Macalister is a frequent contributor for Hartz and has written many articles pertaining to cat and dog needs. Our canine companions are there for us no matter what. We can trust them to give us unfailing love and cuddles whenever we need it most and for that reason, the loss we feel when they pass away can be just as deep as the feeling we get when we lose a human loved one. If you opt to have your dog cremated and then keep their cremains as a memorial, you'll have to look at cremation urns for dogs and try and decide what the right size is for your dog.

When looking at cremation urns for dogs, a good way to approximate the correct size of urn that you'll need is to equate one cubic inch of space to one pound of healthy weight on your dog. For example, if your dog weighs 16 pounds, then you'll need to find an urn that can accommodate at least 16 cubic inches.

Of course, unless you have a custom urn made to the exact specifications and size of your pup, then you may have a hard time finding cremation urns for dogs that are the perfect size. Most of the time, urn companies offer small, medium and large urns for your dog.

Small urns are designed to hold the cremains of dogs that are up to 25 pounds. This includes all toy breeds and other small breeds such as Shit Tzus and small terriers.

Medium cremation urns for dogs hold cremains of pooches that weighed up to 40 pounds, which includes most small to small/medium breeds of dogs. This includes breeds like Boston Terriers or Italian Greyhounds. Of course, the breed may typically fall within one weight class, but if they're overweight or underweight, you should take that into consideration.

Large cremation urns for dogs hold remains for dogs that are up to 70 pounds. This will include most medium to large sized dogs, such as Labrador Retrievers and Australian Cattle Dogs.

What do you do if your dog was a truly large or even giant breed canine? There aren't as many cremation urns for dogs that are truly huge, but what you can do is purchase a standard adult urn. This is a very critical stage of your dog's development, one that has immense impact on his future.

Puppies grow up to ten times faster than fully grown dogs and therefore have high nutritional demands. Unfortunately, few masters understand how best to feed their puppies. Perhaps a look at the following 5 important tips on feeding a puppy will be of help.

1. How much and how often?

The question all puppy owners asks is how much and how often they need to feed their pets. The confusion arises because pups need to eat a lot of food but have very small stomachs. This is because after just a few bites, the recently hungry puppy will abandon his plate. For this reason, you are advised to feed him frequently throughout the day but in small bits.

2. Complete and complementary feed

Puppy feed can be generally classified as either complete or complimentary. These are often legibly marked on the packages so you can't afford to make a mistake.

Complete feed has all the necessary nutrients and can therefore be used independently. However, complimentary feed should only be used to supplement what is obtained from the main diet.

3. Processed food over home-made

With everyone keen to avoid new strains of cancers, many people these days avoid industrially processed food. However, the same will not apply in feeding a puppy.

Get out of the habit of feeding your puppy solely on remnants from your kitchen. Commercial puppy feed has been tried and tested as good for your dog. Furthermore, they come with all the essential nutrients required for proper growth and development.

4. Avoid rapid diet changes

Your puppy could be adjusting to a new home, but food will always demand more time. If you start the pup on any market diet, try as much as possible to stick to it. This is because his alimentary canal is not yet developed to adapt to rapid dietary changes.

If time has come to get him started on solid foods, make sure the change is gradual. Do not try to force your puppy into eating the wrong type of food by starving it.

5. Clean water should be available

For any puppy feeding process to be a success, clean and fresh drinking water should be available at all times.

Commercially made wet food serves as another water source for your dog. However, this should not come as a substitute to fresh drinking water. If you have placed your pup on a dry diet, do not forget to provide drinking water.

Conclusion

It is disappointing that many pet owners who claim to care about their puppies only provide table scraps as food. If you want to watch your puppy grow into one of the healthiest and consequently happiest dog in your neighborhood, this will only be achieved with proper feeding habits. There are countless tips on feeding a puppy, but the 5 discussed here should be enough for a start.

You have now been briefed on how to properly feed a puppy, and you probably want to find out more on how to keep puppies from biting.

To access an article that will let you gain specific understanding on getting your puppy to stop biting, click on the link.

View the original article here

5 Simple Steps For Leash Training Puppies

In many states, you will not be allowed to walk with your dog or puppy into public places if he is not on a leash. Legal requirements aside, it is prudent pet etiquette that every dog learns how to walk on a leash. This is why every pet owner needs to learn about leash training puppies.

At such a young age, it is very easy to teach your puppy practically anything. Despite this, many people still have no idea how they can train their pet into this habit. The following 5 simple steps will however be of great help.

Step 1: Train him to wear a collar

The first step in training your puppy how to walk on a leash can start as soon as he arrives at the new home.

The reason many dogs find it hard to walk on leashes is that they find the collars rather uncomfortable. It will be an added advantage if your puppy sees this as the only way while at a tender age.

Visit the local pet store and request for a light collar that won't be too heavy for the puppy. Take advantage of feeding and playing times when the puppy is less likely to resist.

Step 2: Remove it at the right times

It is not healthy to let a puppy carry a collar around his neck all day at this stage. This is why you need to learn when to get it out of the neck.

If you want to succeed in leash training puppies, you need to insist on removing the leash only at the right time. The best time to get it out of the neck is when the puppy needs to return to his crate.

Do not remove the collar when he tries to fight it off. This will encourage him to fight the collar and consequently a leash.

Step 3: Start with a simple leash

When the pup finally gets used to walking around with a collar, this is the time to introduce a leash.

However, you need to go slow on this since an entire leash could overwhelm him. In such a case, start with a string or even a shoelace that won't look so strange to the puppy.

Attach the simple leash you decide on the collar during eating and playing times. This is always the best time to introduce a puppy to some new habit.

Once again, you can only remove this leash when he forgets it's there and not when he tries to force it off.

Step 4: Start taking him out for treats

Observe how the pup behaves after you add the simple leash to the collar. As expected, he will try to resist but will end up warming to the idea if you follow the right approach.

Some will chew on the new leash and weaken it close to the collar. Store any chewed leashes as they can be used for later training.

The next step before trying to pull the leash is to start taking him out for walks. You could do this with or without the collar on the neck.

Step 5: Introduce a full leash

If your pup has hitherto responded well to the training, most of the work is almost done. He has finally gotten used to the idea of something hanging from its neck so adjusting to a decent leash will only take a few days.

Just like the collar, you need to ensure you purchase a leash of perfect size. You should be able to pull the tail end of the leash when walking comfortably.

Distract the puppy using games when the leash is on the neck so that it doesn't start chewing it as well. It won't be long before he finally adjusts to the new weight around the neck.

Conclusion

If you have ever bought a new watch, you know how uncomfortable it feels around the wrist on the first few days. However, as time ebbs by, the hand always gets used. This is the same technique applied in leash training puppies successfully.

However, you need to appreciate that a puppy is not human and will need more time to make necessary adjustments. Remember to remove the leash when the pup enters his crate. A puppy on a leash must never be left unattended.

You have now been briefed on how to train a puppy to walk on a leash, and you probably want to find out more on teaching a puppy not to bite.

Click on the following link to access an article that will let you acquire specific understanding on getting a puppy to stop biting.

View the original article here

How to Bathe a Dog - Stress Relief for the Whole Family

The many benefits of a great bath and cleaning for your dog will go far beyond the pleasant scent. In addition to maintaining and improving the overall health of your pooch, a superb benefit of bathing your dog can be psychological. Knowing how to properly give a doggy bath will induce feelings of love and a sense of being cared for.

Bathing frequency

Understanding the correct frequency to give your dog a bath will ultimately depend on breed, age, and the amount of time spent rolling around outside. Bathing too frequently can rob the coat of natural oil and could dry your dog's skin. Usually, on average, you should bathe your canine once every 2-3 months. This is not including the occasional skunk or emergency bath.

Tips for successful bathing

A helpful tip to remember, gather tools beforehand. There is nothing like forgetting something and coming back with a soaking wet dog writhing around on the floor of the bathroom. Items of interest should be brushes, shampoo, towels, and obviously a sink, bathtub or something of the sort.

Prior to bathing, take a brief minute to brush your dog's coat. This type of grooming will remove any loose or matty hair that can prevent the shampoo from serving its purpose. A bonus to this step is to avoid letting the mats and knots from getting wet and tightening. This can cause an irritating pinch and can create a negative experience.

Now, place your dog into the sink or bathtub. Use a rubber-non-slip mat on the bottom of the sink or bathtub to remove any chance of canine-slipping. This can be a serious hazard for you and your pet.

The water temperature should be lukewarm. Begin to saturate the coat of the dog, making sure the water is NOT too hot. Remember, be careful around the eyes, ears, and face - these areas are especially sensitive. Make sure not to get water in your dog's nose - especially small dogs, this can be a choking hazard. As a precaution, lightly cover the nose with your palm or gently rinse the face with a wash cloth.

Begin at the tail. Add the shampoo and massage into a lather, repeating this process as needed across the body. Following the body, move to the legs and finally onto the head. Do this until the entire dog is covered in a soapy lather. Talking to your dog through this can help reassure him that everything is calm and provide a gentle experience. Many dogs will begin to fidget, just remember to avoid over-restraint or raising your voice, this can cause him to struggle more aggressively.

Again, starting at the tail, work towards the head, across the body and rinsing off the shampoo thoroughly with lukewarm water. I must emphasize rinsing thoroughly, irritation can occur of the shampoo is effectively washed off.

Begin to dry your dog using towels to help remove water from the undercoat. Practice caution during this time, unless you want a face and mouthful of doggy flavored water. The natural reaction of dogs is to shake the water off. Another helpful hint, using a blow-dryer, if he or she will tolerate it of course, and make sure to use a cooler temperature setting so not to burn or irritate skin.

By following these basic tips and tricks, you should be able to relinquish any built stress, for you and your dog. It's naturally wild but can fairly easily be tamed to be a domesticated house pet. In most places of the world dogs are seen as suitable companions, workers, and members of the family. Although these dogs are tamed and trained sometimes they can still show signs of aggressive behaviour because of their natural instinct. This is something you cannot control, but you can highly influence how a dog will react in a given situation by training it the correct way.

Why Does This Happen

We all know why neglect and abuse can cause a dog to not behave correctly but there are some other not as well known reasons as to why a dog might show aggressive or destructive behaviour. When it comes down to it, the number one factor that is going to determine how a dog reacts is the environment that it lives in and how it is treated in its day to day life. Training also plays a very important role, as you have probably met a dog that is highly disciplined and listens to every command. Most owners of pets simply do not know how to train their animal. The number one problem I see reoccurring over and over again is promoting bad or irresponsible behaviour. Never encourage your dog in any way, shape or form if they are not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Show them that they are not doing the right thing. Likewise if a dog exhibits good or an outstanding attitude be sure to reward the dog, let it know it is doing the right thing.

Take Care Of Your Pet

Not understand what it takes to look after a pet can cause some serious problems. Dogs need to be able to trust their owner if they are expected to listen to them at all. Treat them right. Make sure you are paying attention to them, feed them, give your dog baths, and never leave it locked up in a cage all day. I know work can be long and tough but if you have to get the kids or hire someone to take your dog for walks. Dogs can get bored too and usually when they do they show destructive behaviour in order to put a little bit of excitement in their lives. Do not deprive your dog of a long, happy, healthy lifestyle.

The following article was written by Robin, the owner and author of The doggy Lifestyle. He is an experienced dog training and owner. Your dog does produce a 'normal' odor, primarily through the variety of glands found in their skin, ears, and paws. But your dog can also have a serious and unpleasant smell, such as from skin infections, and other disorders. This article will show you the most common causes of dog odor, and how you can diagnose the cause of your dog's bad smell. I will then show you to most important natural options to quickly and easily stop your dog's foul odor.

The first thing that you need to do is diagnose exactly what is causing the dog odor. Start by properly examining your dog's mouth, and seeing if they have bad breath. Carefully look at the gums and teeth, looking for signs of gum recession, and tooth root abscess. This would require veterinary care. Some dogs with halitosis (bad breath), respond well to remedies for plaque; I have had particular success using a product called Plaque Off.

Ear infections are one of the more common causes of unpleasant dog odor, so you should thoroughly examine your dog's ears. Look at the outside of the ear ( the pinna) and closely look into the external ear canal. It should be clear, a light pink color, and free of any debris. Yeast infections are common in the ear, and they often produce a dark brown, waxy discharge. They respond well to cleaning with dilute Apple Cider Vinegar and water.

The anal glands are often implicated as a source of doggie odor, especially if the smell is 'fishy'. These are scent glands, which historically were important, yet now they are just a nuisance. The glands are normally expressed when your dog has a bowel movement, but can become impacted, and sometimes infected producing the strong smell. You can check your dog's glands, ( use a lubricated rubber glove), inserting your index finger in their anus, palpating the glands at 10 o clock ( on the left), and 2 o clock ( on the right). Apply firm pressure with your thumb and index finger to express the gland. Infected glands are generally weeping, open and very painful; they require veterinary care.

Skin disorders are the most common cause of recurring and strong dog odor; skin infections secondary to allergies is what is most often diagnosed. If your dog has a history of itching, or recurring ear infections, then they likely have some type of allergy. There are a variety of treatments for allergies, but I find it most important to stop the itching, and supplement to decrease inflammation. An antihistamine called Benadryl can be given a the dose of.5mg per lb - give it twice a day if needed. Vitamin C is a 'natural' antihistamine, that can be dosed at 100mg per 10lbs daily. High doses of essential fatty acids are critical, and the usual advised doses I find are too low. You should supplement your dog with either flax oil or fish oil, giving 1000mg per 10lbs daily. That equates to giving 1 tablespoon of flax per 50lbs daily.

Every dog with chronic dog odor problems, or ongoing allergies, should be on a hypoallergenic type dog food. I suggest that you feed your dog a food of simple ingredients, such as fish and sweet potato. Some clients have claimed that raw food was the answer to stopping the allergies and ending their dog's bad smell.

The last, but often most important step in treating your dog's odor problem is with proper bathing and shampoos. Often the smell is from secondary bacteria (such as Staph), which overgrow in response to the allergy. Choose a medicated type shampoo that is designed to treat mild bacterial skin infections; I prefer ones that contain Sulfur and Salicylic acid. A holistic dog shampoo that can help is Tea Tree Oil & Aloe Vera Shampoo. Regardless, the key here is to wet your dog, lather them up and leave on their skin for 10 full minutes; use a clock. You must leave the shampoo on for a long enough period of time to be effective. After 10 minutes, thoroughly rinse. You can safely do this twice a week until the skin no longer smells.

Fear not- if your dog has a strong odor, there is a large number of things that you can do. Be systematic, carefully diagnosing the precise cause of the smell, and then following that up with veterinary care, or an appropriate remedy. If your dog has a skin infection, use some of the remedies I have discussed, in particular the shampoo, but doing it properly.

Dr Andrew Jones is the author of a Free Ebook, Dog Health Secrets, which gives you over 100 safe, natural and effective at home remedies. They can range from the cute and cuddly to the tough and vicious breeds. No matter what breed or type of dog it is however, you can be sure that they will remain loyal to you.

Now, dogs can communicate with us. As we live with them longer, we learn to interpret their various behavior. If there is one thing that they cannot tell us directly however, that is when they are not feeling well and that means we have to know when to look for the signs when they are sick.

Dogs can get sick and if we want to enjoy their companionship for a long time, then we need to learn what their most common ailments are. To help you out we have made a list here:

Heartworms- Dogs are particularly prone to parasites, especially with the way that they romp around, but there is one particular parasite that can cause more than just a minor inconvenience. These are the so called heartworms which can infect the heart and sometimes the arteries of dogs. Symptoms include excessive coughing and lethargy.

Diarrhea- Dogs are very prone to diarrhea because of their tendency to put anything in their mouth. This is usually accompanied by vomiting and is pretty normal. The problem is that if it happens for a prolonged period then you should take the dog to a vet.

Obesity- It is not only humans who can suffer from obesity but dogs can too. Some breeds of dogs can gain excessive weight if their eating is not controlled so you should be on the lookout for this if your pet is of the breed that can get too heavy.

Kennel Cough- This is a highly infectious form of bronchitis in dogs and it can be acquired through exposure to infected animals. Normally the infection takes place in grooming shops and even animal clinics.

Skin Problems- Dogs are just as prone to skin problems as humans. Allergies and parasites are the most common causes of these health problems. You should pay attention to it immediately if your pet shows signs of excessive itching.

Arthritis- Dogs are just as prone to arthritis as humans and they could have an even worse time because of the fact they might not get medical attention until it is too late. If your dog shows signs of slowing down or of limping then most likely it has this condition.

Cancer- Dogs are also prone to suffer from cancer of all types. The problem is that it is normally not detected until it is too late, when there is nothing that could be done.

These are just some of the more common health issues from which your pet dogs could suffer. It would be a big deal for you to know all about this so you can start helping them the moment that you see signs that there is something wrong with their health. If you love your dogs then you would watch out for their health.

If you are looking for affordable pet insurance for your precious furr family members, then you are in the right place. We offer dog insurance and cat insurance at prices you can afford. Humans with their continuous evolution have realized the emotional relationship with their pets. Training pets in a proper manner is about making them learn to become a socially acceptable and compatible one.

Often said, dog is man's best friend and they are treated alike family member as they are most faithful and ask almost nothing in return of the love they portray to their owners. Conditioning or training your dog is thus important for enjoying a continued cozy relationship. Training your dog for behavioral and obedience training provides it with necessary skills to become a good inhabitant. Dog training is a process of transforming the behavior of a dog. It is about correcting the bad behavior and also making them learn to obey.

Why choose a professional trainer?

Getting a trained dog is not a chance of good fortune; rather professional training is required to get your dog trained. Over the years, I have witnessed the sad results of the owners who do not take required steps to educate their dogs. Thus, they fail to realize their dog's unbeatable potential, and often the same dog end up in refuge or shelters. Many dogs return to refuge for behavioral issues eventually culminating being euthanized, despite the fact that their issues could have been addressed and resolved with proper, timely training.

Modern lives and changing times have increased the responsibilities of dwellers in ensuring that their dogs are well behaved and organized. This can only be achieved with professional dog training. While some training can be accomplished by the owners on their own, many face problems while training their dogs. This problem facing creates helplessness, frustration and ultimately the ill-behavior of dogs makes them to rest in shelter.

Thus, it is vital to realize the importance of professional dog training with a professional trainer who posses' rich experience of training multiple breeds at different stages of life. A professional dog trainer understand the behavior of diverse breed dogs, their characteristics, training tactics and modalities, working knowledge of critical behavioral issues and posses the ability to diagnose such issues for owners. Professional dog training not only stimulates the behavior and learning of dog but also educates the owners to create a healthy environment for adaptability.

For instance, you might be having a furry dog forever jumping and chasing at you, climbing on furniture, etc. A trainer experienced in dog's behavioral issues will be able to recognize this pattern and will also help the owner make the appropriate changes to bring the dog back in a balanced shape of behavior. It is thus, necessary to have a professional trainer who is familiar with different dog training modalities and techniques which can allow them to promptly adapt to the specific dog and owner's needs, helping to accelerate the training process.

Having a well behaved dog can be one of the best experiences of life time but at the same time it pose a challenge for you to get them well trained with behavioral and obedience issues.

View the original article here

Can You Really Find Non Shedding Dogs?

Lately we have seen an increase in the number of breeds that claim to have low or even non-shedding qualities. This surge in popularity is likely due to their supposed hypo-allergenic qualities. It is an added bonus that they are also easier to clean up after as well. Our lives are busier and busier and it is an obvious advantage when we can share what little free time we have with our pets, instead of cleaning up after them.

As far as the fact that dander is released more often and abundantly from dogs that shed a lot, there is also the issue of dust collection. Due to hair building up under, around and on furniture there is also a larger collection of dust building up. This dust also carries allergens such as pollen, mites, dead skin and dirt. Not only can we be allergic to this stuff, but nobody likes seeing dust bunnies lying all around their house. having less hair and dust lying around is an added benefit to picking a puppy that doesn't shed.

Non-shedding dogs can be found in the form of Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Shepadoodles, Cockerdoodles, Puggles, Doodleman Pinschers and yes, even plain old Poodles. The hybrid types are all comprised by two full bred parents from different breeds. Poodle is normally one of the choices for the parents as they have great hypoallergenic low shedding qualities.
