Can dogs suffer from depression? The answer may surprise you. Anyone who has either personally struggled with depression or has a loved one who has battled its painful symptoms knows what a complicated and debilitating condition it can be. But there is something about depression that seems so, well, human. There is a gravity to it, a ring of existentialism. Does a dog really possess the depth of character necessary to suffer from such an affliction?

In short, yes. And even more fascinating is the fact that dog depression symptoms do not differ significantly from those endured by human beings. Signs of dog depression include: inactivity, listlessness, changes in eating and sleeping patterns, and a general withdrawal from people and/or activities that were once highly valued. Significant changes in a dog's life seem to be at the root of most canine episodes of depression. These changes can range from something substantial like a move to a new home to something that may seem somewhat trivial to the humans of the household, like a change in the dog's established daily routine.

While medication is occasionally used for dog depression treatment, more often than not a dog will be able to recover from a depressive episode if his owner ups his exercise routine, engages him more often, and puts an emphasis on activities the dog really enjoys. It is important to note that, just as with humans, excessive treats or other gustatory indulgences are not effective dog depression treatments.

So, if you notice your dog is experiencing a period of malaise, with no medical explanation, you may want to try the simple remedies listed above. If the dog depression symptoms are not alleviated within a reasonable amount of time, it is advisable to place a call to your veterinarian for further counsel.

A walkin' the dog
Just a walkin' the dog
If you don't know how to do it
I'll show you how to walk the dog

It's such a common phrase and, perhaps, equally mundane activity that we often don't take time to reflect on that important daily outdoor time we spend with our canine companions. People walking dogs is easily equal to a spicy-sweet apple pie or a plump hot dog with all the fixin's in terms of ability to conjure up a feeling of good ol' Americana wholesomeness. Whether on a leash or simply obediently trotting alongside his master, a dog on a walk is a mainstay of neighborhood life -- whether it's a Chihuahua being led by a slender leather strip down the brightly-colored and colorful Venice Beach Boardwalk, or a Bloodhound loping, untethered, along the swampy marshland of the Mississippi delta.

Walking dogs is one of those rare and lovely examples of a truly symbiotic activity -- both Walker and Walk-ee benefit tremendously. Humans, of course, need daily exercise every bit as much as dogs, and yet we often afford a respect and duty to a dog's need for a daily constitutional that far exceeds the commitment we show to our own need for the self-same activity. The beauty part? In remaining diligent in our obligation to keep our pooches healthy and happy by getting them out in the fresh air for some much-needed scampering and sniffing, we also meet our own need for a bit of daily exercise. People walking dogs are also afforded the opportunity to take a moment out of their days to disconnect from the demands and technology of "indoor life" and connect to both nature and their community -- and connecting in that way at least once daily is crucial, even if for no more than a short jaunt around the block.

So, pull out the harness, grab the lead, and toss a couple treats in your pocket. When it comes to taking the dog for a stroll, there's never a better time than right now.

Lyrics above excerpted from Rufus Thomas' "Walking The Dog" circa 1963.

In other, otherwise quiet moments, it might break the silence as a low grumbly sigh. Perhaps you notice it most as that plaintive yelp emerging from behind a closed bedroom or backyard door. Regardless of pitch or timbre, canine whining can present a real problem for the sensitive ears of the human members of a pooch's pack.

Why do dogs whine? When considering how to stop dog whining, it is useful to examine possible causes of your pal's bothersome noises. Dogs whine for a variety of reasons, but some of the most common are: submission/appeasement, excited greeting, boredom/attention-seeking, and anxiety. What is important to know about each of these categories of dog-whininess is that they constitute rationales for the dog's behavior. Put simply, your dog is whining because he or she thinks it will result in some basic need being met. The trick is to divert your dog's attention and train her to use other options for communication. For example, if she is whining because she is bored or wants you to play with her, it is important to not only ignore her completely when she whines, but also to reward her for being quiet. Rewards can come both in the form of treats or simply initiating play with her when she is quiet and calm.

It's a question as old as dog-companionship itself: How to stop a dog from whining? The answer is both simple and maddeningly complex: identify the root cause of the whining and then provide your dog suitable alternatives to the habitual behavior. This is a process that will take careful observation, patience, and compassion. But a happy dog and a living room free of whistles, yelps, and grumbly sighs will most certainly be worth your effort and hard work.

Dog intestinal worms can be a major problem for any pet owner. To keep your dog safe and healthy, it is important to be able to identify dog worms symptoms. A simple google search provides a lot of useful information on dog intestinal worms -- and a host of unsavory images. The easiest to identify, most telltale symptom of worms is that familiar "butt-scoot" across the carpet. Dogs do this in an attempt to relieve the extreme itching around the anus that results from an infestation of intestinal parasites.

Beyond this early symptom it is important to look for other signs of worms including: sudden weight loss, swollen belly, and worms and/or blood in the stool. Any one of these symptoms warrants a call to your veterinarian. However, when these features of intestinal parasites are taken together, it is important to call your pet's health care provider as soon as possible.

Some pet owners wonder, "Are dog worms contagious?" The nutshell answer to this question comes in the form of a bit of age-old wisdom: better safe than sorry. Since worm larvae can penetrate human skin, it is important to keep at least a pair of socks on when sharing space with an infected dog. It is especially important to keep babies away from areas where an infected dog spends his time, as a parasite infection can prove fatal to an infant.

Treating dog worms is a fairly simple affair. Your dog will be given two doses of medication, approximately two weeks apart. What is important during this time is that proper sanitation practices are observed to reduce the risk of spreading the infection to other animals or people. Treating worms in dogs requires nothing more than diligence in both making sure your dog gets the proper doses of medication (or "wormer") and keeping the area where he spends his time clean and free of anything that might transmit the infection to others.

Training Tips to Help Good Behavior Stay (or sit, or roll over, or play dead …)

What does training your dog, politics, and the latest blockbuster movie all have in common? In regards to all three, just about everyone has an opinion. There are nearly as many philosophies on how to train dogs as there are dogs themselves, and any pet owner who has had success with one method is generally certain that that method is The One. In reality, various strategies for training a dog can generally be successful depending on a number of factors including: the temperament and/or breed of the dog, the temperament of the owner, the dog's home environment, and the ultimate goal that the owner is hoping to reach through the training sessions.

One thing that sound dog training ideologies have in common is that they all rely on some form of positive reinforcement and/or gentle correction. Pain, fear, and distress have no place in a responsible dog-training regimen. Whether you are wondering how to train a dog to fetch, how to train a dog to stay, or how to train a dog to heel -- there is a healthy, compassionate training strategy certain to meet your needs.

Four of the most popular dog-training methods are: clicker training, reward training, traditional training (which relies on gentle physical corrections), and "dog whispering" (as popularized by famed television personality, Cesar Millan). When considering which method to use in your own household, it is probably best to speak with someone who has experience with one or more of these strategies. If this isn't possible, pick a dog-training plan that you feel is likely to work with your pooch's temperament. For example, if your dog is already highly food/treat motivated, a reward training system is most likely a good place to start.

Remember, training should be a wonderful, warm journey shared by dog and owner. Any training methods that promise quick fixes or overnight successes are not going to be worth your, or your canine companion's, time.

People in the market for truly tiny dogs (often referred to as "teacup" versions of slightly larger dogs like Poodles or Yorkshire Terriers) often have to be the most wary of irresponsible and/or "backyard" breeders. As demand for this type of dog is often high (due in large part to their popularity with young starlets who tote them about in custom-made designer purses) and they are not recognized by major canine associations such as the AKC, this type of dog is sadly susceptible to being bred by someone looking to make a quick (and hefty -- a teacup puppy can go for five hundred dollars) buck.

When considering a tiny dog breed it is also important to remember that "teacup" is often used as a marketing ploy to sell small and unhealthy versions of the standard for that breed (Yorkie, Poodle, Chihuahua, etc.). Breeders committed to "teacup" varieties will also sometimes breed for tiny stature only, ignoring more important health and quality of life factors. We are not making the claim that all breeders of tiny dogs are irresponsible, only that when dealing with the "teacup" label it is exceedingly important to do your homework and ensure you are dealing with a reputable breeder dedicated to the health and welfare of the puppies he or she produces.

If you are committed to adopting a rescue dog (and, we have to admit, here at Dazzle Dog Delight we're biased toward that option), a perfectly adorable tiny dog breed is not out of your reach. Sites such as Petfinder.com allow you to search currently available dogs at shelters all over the country, and you can refine your search by age, gender, breed, and, that's right, size! There is also a section to search special considerations such as whether the dog is good with children, other dogs, and/or cats. Private breeders are not the only destination for those in search of a tempest in a teacup -- plenty of tiny dog breeds are sitting in a shelter, right at this moment, eagerly awaiting finding their forever homes.

The BARF Diet Explained

Barf. It isn't generally the sort of term one associates with tasty or nutritious cuisine -- for either canine or human. But this isn't barf, this is BARF, and it may be the answer to many pet owners' concerns about the health and longevity of their dogs. BARF stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food and advocates of this diet claim it can address a wide range of common canine afflictions, from dry skin and allergies to stomach sensitivities and tooth decay.

In lieu of processed and chemical-laden "dog food," pet owners adhering to the BARF diet feed their dogs whole foods of the same quality that is deemed safe for human consumption. Fruits, veggies, ground bones, raw meat, and offal (entrails and internal organs) constitute the foundation of the BARF diet.

And if your stomach is churning over the notion of figuring out how to get entrails into your dog's dish without significantly altering the cleanliness of your kitchen, have no fear! Pre-assembled meals following BARF guidelines are available at: www.barfworld.com.

Proponents of the BARF diet point to the fact that this manner of eating closely follows the way dogs and cats were fed until the advent of processed dog food around the 1930s. So pet owners who are concerned that perhaps this sort of diet is merely a fad or a passing trend should keep in mind that the BARF diet more closely resembles the way dogs ate in the generations before we began marketing kibble and canned pet food.

Of course, there are pros and cons to all philosophies -- including those involving pet care. If you are interested in possibly transitioning your dog to the BARF diet, consider speaking to your veterinarian about the possible benefits of this all-natural "dog food."

It may not be the first question you ask yourself when considering bringing a pooch into your home, but it often ends up being one of the most important: What size dog do I want? Some people just naturally gravitate toward the larger breeds: the labs, the working breeds, those irresistible sad-eyed hounds. However, some find that the small dog breeds are more suited to their lifestyles: the toy breeds and those scruffy terriers.

Potential dog owners sometimes make the mistake of assuming a small dog breed is going to be less work than one of his larger cousins. In truth, the personality associated with a specific breed is going to dictate the needs of the dog much more than the size. For example, a Jack Russell (or, more officially, "Parson Russell") Terrier is quite small in stature but could out-play, out-run, and out-bounce a two year-old hopped up on cupcakes and fruit punch. Bullmastiffs are inarguably giants of the canine world, but are so docile and good-natured that they are often recommended as good apartment dogs!

Small dog breeds are generally ideal for folks who love to romp and play and spend time outdoors. Other small dog breeds such as Chihuahuas, Pekingese, and Shih Tzu make exemplary lap dogs. When considering bringing a small dog breed into your home, ask yourself why you are adopting a dog in the first place. Most likely you will have more than a few reasons (most dog lovers do), so take the time to rank them in order of importance. Are you looking primarily for a late-night cuddly companion? A protector? A jogging buddy? Once you have a list of the desired canine qualities in front of you it will be easier to narrow your focus to a specific breed, or range of breeds. At this point it will be easy to decide whether a small dog breed is "just right" for you.

by Joy Randel

When it comes to our closest canine companions, the health problems they encounter can be as unique as those sparkling personalities we rely on to brighten our day. A dog health problem isn't necessarily going to present the same across the spectrum of breeds. Some dog health problems are actually specific to certain breeds.

Some pet owners wonder if there are any preventative measures they can take in terms of keeping their pup's physical health in check. Dog health food is sometimes a popular option for folks who feel their own health benefits from a balanced, nutritious diet. Health-conscious dog owners gain comfort in looking after their animals' dietary needs with the same dedication they apply to monitoring their own. Some doggie lovers take it a step further and prepare their pet food from scratch, adding supplements such as Taurine and L-carnitine to ensure their pooch's nutritional needs are being met.

The American Kennel Club has a website listing national breed clubs, and this is a fantastic resource if you are interested in learning more about dog health problems by breed. You can find this list at http://clubs.akc.org. In some ways, dog health is no more predictable than human health, but that doesn't mean that conscientious pet owners should not take the time to educate themselves on the possible ailments that may arise in the future. The American Kennel Club is always a fantastic trusted resource, as is your local chapter of the SPCA www.aspca.org or American Humane Society www.americanhumane.org.

With a bit of preparation and, of course, a lot of love, your beloved pup can enjoy many years brightening the lives of his or her human companions. And if you have not yet joined our ranks of besotted doggie pals (after all, we say we are their owners -- but it is the pups who own our hearts), don't forget to research breed-specific health problems before making your final decision.
Your dog gives you so much; why not give a bit back to that sweet pal who never lets you down? And if that "giving back" takes the form of rampant spoiling, well … who could possibly deserve it more? If you've been searching for that perfect posh puppy boutique, look no further than Dazzle Dog Delight! Whether it's a pink mink coat (faux, of course!) for your poodle or an adorable doggie clothes-sized closet for your collie, Dazzle Dog Delight has everything you need to take your pooch from drab to fab! Of course, we know that all dogs are beautiful au naturel, no adornment necessary -- but that doesn't mean that we can't have a bit of fun every once in a while with items like a pink fur trimmed vest or a red polka dot dress or a wedding dress!!).

Let's face it, dog clothing can be fun, but for our short-haired canine friends, it can also be a downright necessity. Warm up your chihuahua in a sunny sweater or keep your mutt cozy in a comfy hoodie. Shopping at a doggy boutique is a fun and unique experience -- shopping at an online dog boutique is fun, unique, and can be done from the comfort of your living room! So give us a visit at Dazzle Dog Delight and let us help you pamper that posh puppy!

And remember, 5% of all Dazzle Dog Delight profits go directly to the SPCA -- so you can feel good about treating your pooch to some well-deserved goodies.
It's a somewhat lofty debate: Do animals have a soul? Representatives on either side of this issue are able to deliver fairly convincing arguments. Yet, when it comes to dogs, it somehow becomes harder to argue against the existence of a spiritual element to this kind and empathetic animal.

What would a dog soul look like? What elements might we find if we could see into a dog's higher self? It seems there would definitely be a component of care and dedication to human beings. Dogs have been a stalwart friend to man pretty much ever since there have been dogs and men. Various studies have confirmed that when we pet dogs, it isn't just the canines reaping the benefits. Stroking a dog's coat has been shown to ease stress and elevate the neurotransmitters associated with bringing about a sense of calm.

It would seem that if dogs do have souls they are somehow inextricably linked to our own. And when you look into the eyes of your favorite canine companion, this isn't too difficult to imagine. The bond between man and dog runs far too deep to be one of mere affinity. Somewhere along the way canines and human beings were joined together in a way we intuitively understand, but can't quite explain. It would seem that dogs not only have souls, they have souls that are somehow reflections of our own.
Maybe it's the velvety wet nose gently brushing up against your hand in the morning. Maybe it's that whip-like little tail racing back and forth at what seems like the speed of light the moment your car pulls into the driveway. Maybe it's the long, loping walks to nowhere in particular. Maybe it's that fact that none of your human friends seem to be quite as good at listening … or understanding.

The reasons vary from dog owner to dog owner (or, as we like to think of it, "one who is owned by a dog"), but one thing is certain -- you can't help but love that dog! The dog human relationship is an important one, and is at least 10,000 years old (experts quibble over exactly when domestication occurred, but it's safe to say these pooches have been with us for many thousands of years). Dogs provide us with not only companionship and amusement, they give us that one thing it is so hard for us to give one another: unconditional love.

Through new jobs, new lives, new homes, new relationships -- our dogs are always there, cheering us on and standing (or sitting, or rolling over, or playing dead) firmly in our corner. And when you think of it that way, it's no wonder that no matter how many shoes get chewed up, how many blankets get shredded, and how many dinner guests are "enthusiastically greeted," you just can't help but love that dog.
If you have a dog you know they need to be groomed. While different breeds need to be groomed at more or less frequent intervals, all dogs need this important care. Breeds vary in their fur lengths, texture, thickness, and number of sheds. Be honest with yourself, if you aren’t up for the level of care a high maintenance breed presents that might not be the pet for you!

Why Groom?

Grooming your dog is more than just aesthetics. Fur left uncared for can become matted and tangled. This fur can pull on a dog’s skin causing injury, and then need to be shaved. Dog’s fur can grow over their eyes making it hard for them to see, or for some breeds long enough to become a tripping hazard!

What Do I Need?

This will also depend on the breed of dog you own. There are a variety of different brushes on the market. Dog’s coats typically have two types of fur: the outer layer of fur, which is coarser, and the inner layer of fur, which is much softer. A dog’s hair grows to a predetermined length, some stay short and some will grow quite long.

Some of the most common brushes include: a bristle brush, a pin brush, and a soft or rubber brush. A metal comb for grooming is also a handy tool. You may also need a hound glove. Don’t forget equipment for taking care of their nails. Choose an organic dog shampoo for your pup’s bath. Not sure what to choose? Consult dog shampoo reviews. Dog bathing frequency will vary from breed to breed.

Wiry Coats

Dogs with wiry coats need to be brushed at least three times a week to remove loose dead hair. These breeds can be considered high maintenance if you are going to take the time to properly brush them! These coats do best being washed about once every three months. Terriers and Dachshunds are breeds that belong in this category.

Curly, Non-shedding Coats

Think poodles! Poodles should be bathed and trimmed every two months. Extra care needs to be taken dealing with extra fur in and around their ears, make certain you hire a professional to do your grooming.

Long Thick Coats

As you might suspect long thick coats require frequent brushing. In fact when these dogs are shedding they may need to be brushed daily. This breed of dog has a coat with protective oils. Too frequent bathing strips these oils which is detrimental to their coats.

Choose a shampoo designed to care for your breed’s fur. Dog shampoo reviews can help you find just the right one. What is the dog bathing frequency for this breed? On average these breeds need baths only about twice a year. Akitas and Newfoundlands belong in this group.

Smooth Coats

Use a hound glove to keep these pups looking great. A hound glove has a slicker brush on one side and rubber studs on the other. Comb these breeds once a week. Use dog shampoo reviews to find just the right shampoo for your dog’s baths. These breeds need a bath two to three times a year.

Who falls into this category? Dalmatians, Dobermans, Boxers, Whippets, and Labradors!

Know Your Breed

By knowing your breed you will know how to care for their fur coat! Each breed has unique challenges. Remember to use a trained professional groomer to get the best, most appropriate cut on your dog. Remember that the dog bathing frequency varies by breed. When it is time for a bath refer to dog shampoo reviews to find the best shampoo for your pooch. There are shampoos on the market tailored to different fur colors, protection against fleas, and a number of other concerns you may have. Spend some time researching your breed to make sure you are giving them the best care you can!
How to Choose a Breed for your Family

You’ve decided to add a dog to your family. This is a big commitment! Your mind might immediately fly to the supplies you’ll need. Leashes, food bowls, organic dog shampoo and other bath supplies, the list goes on. These things should come second to choosing just the right breed for your family. Knowing what breed will best fit into your lifestyle is key to making a decision that will keep your family and your new dog happy. When you are choosing a dog you need to consider their disposition, temperament, size, and energy. All of these things will help determine if a dog is the right fit. So what are the best family dog breeds?

Remember these are meant to giving you a starting point. The best family dog breeds don’t guarantee that your child and a dog will be a good match. They are both individuals! It is important to talk to your vet before making any big adoption decisions. It is also a good idea to spend some time with each of the breeds you are considering.

The Best Family Dog Breeds

Pugs

While not a “rule” larger dogs may be a wiser choice for small children. Why? They are less likely to be an injured by accidently being stepped on. Big dogs are more durable, and anyone who has watched a toddler with a pet knows why that is important. It makes children less likely to get bit because a scared, hurt dog snapped at them.

An exception to this, Pugs. Pugs are very friendly by nature. They love people, especially playing with children. They can be a great fit for a home with kids.

Labrador Retrievers

These dogs are by far one of the most commonly thought of dog when considering the best family dog breeds. They love to run and play with children. They are a very loving and loyal dog. All of these things make them great family pets.

However, you need to have time for a Labrador because they have a LOT of energy. This means they need exercise and training. Without those two things Labradors can become a large dog barreling down your kids with all their extra energy!

Collies

Collies are gentle dogs. This is a great temperament to have when it comes to a home with children. They are still active and enjoy being played with. The only potential “downside” is that these dogs will require a little more grooming to keep them looking their best because of their long hair.

Whippets

An incredibly friendly and loyal dog a Whippet makes a great addition to the family. These dogs will like sharing quiet time with you, but they need and want time to run too! The perfect combination for a family dog. Great for any size home as long as they get time to exercise.

English Bulldog

These dogs are bred to be great companions. They should be both loving and patient. Overall have a loving and gentle demeanor. They are a loyal friend that would be happy to sit next to you while you do homework. However they may have some limitations as far as activities go, so if you have an older child looking for a dog to run miles alongside a bike, a bulldog may not be your choice.

These five breeds are among the best family dog breeds. They should certainly be on your list to check out when choosing a breed for your family.

So before you head out the door to buy chew toys, dog beds, organic dog shampoo and other bath supplies, remember choosing the right breed is crucial to the success of your pet-owner relationship. Spend enough time doing your research before you adopt.
Here are five great ideas to get you started.

If your dog enjoys being pampered have an at-home spa day. In designer dog supplies you can find a wide array of dog nail polishes. Nail polish will give your dog that extra pep in their step this holiday season. Remember though it is important to buy a product meant for dogs. They are designed to be applied to your dog’s nails with ease.

Polishes made for them also take into account the fact that pets chew on their feet. Look for water-based products with natural ingredients.

This is a great time of year to expand your dog’s wardrobe! There are many different dog clothes to choose from. If you want funny dog stuff, look for outfits that have lots of character. Your dog might want to sport a biker jacket, a shirt with a holiday greeting, or even get them their own gear for an ugly Christmas sweater party!

Don’t have anywhere to go with their expanded wardrobe? Did you know that dog wardrobes are available on the market? Now your dog will have a place to hang all of their designer dog supplies.

If your pup doesn’t like to wear clothes, or even if they do, consider glamming them up this season with fancy dog collars! The options are countless. You can find collars with sparkle, in a rainbow of colors to match the occasion, or with a printed season’s greeting on them.

Collars, even fancy dog collars, serve an important practical purpose too. This time of year guests are frequently in and out of our homes, which means more open doors. With all of that hustle bustle and distraction your pet has a lot more opportunity to slip out of the house for an adventure. Make sure your dog is wearing their collar with up-to-date tags to ensure a happy holiday season for both of you.

Your pooch can always use a new toy! Give them something appropriate to chew on and save your shoes. Toys give you a great opportunity to find funny dog stuff. Chew toys come shaped as almost anything you can imagine.

There are also toys out there that encourage your dog to play and keep them stimulated by being motion activated by your dog. This is great for a dog with a lot of energy to work off.

Make your puppy feel like one of the family by giving them their very own stocking. There are great decorations available to incorporate this important member of your family. Just remember your dog has a great sense of smell, so tucking treats into a stocking just out of reach and leaving them unattended could spell disaster! Always be aware of potential dangers to your pet when decorating for the holidays.

Whether your pup enjoys funny dog stuff or the finer things in life there are designer dog supplies on the market for them. Think about your dog’s personality, and their current favorites when choosing just the right thing for them this holiday season.
The holiday season can be tricky to navigate with your dog. They are part of your family so you want to spend time with them, but you also want to keep them safe and not stress them. You can share happy holidays with your pup if you plan ahead and avoid common pitfalls.

The Problem With All That Food

Holidays and food go hand in hand. But with all that temptation you have to be vigilant about what your dog has access too. When you have family and friends around you also usually have some of the big problem foods and drinks around.

• Chocolate:
Chocolate, and coffee, contain xanthines. In dogs this causes damage in the nervous and urinary systems, and can cause excessive stimulation of the heart. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are the most dangerous for your dog, but you’ll want to keep all chocolate out of your dog’s reach. Even if your pet doesn’t suffer any of the more serious affects you may still have to take care of a dog with diarrhea. And who wants that!

• Alcohol:
When friends and family are around for holiday gatherings there will also be drinks around. Alcohol and pets don’t mix. Dogs are drawn to the sweet taste of mixed drinks and holiday specialties like eggnog, but they can be lethal. Keep an eye on drinks set on easily accessible coffee tables. After the party resist the urge to wait to clean up, clear leftover drinks up right away.

Be careful what goes under your Christmas tree. You may want to wrap up a treat for your special pup. Don’t put it under the tree, at least not unattended! Your dog will smell something yummy under there and you risk him eating more than just his present. Trees and holiday plants can cause upset stomachs and irritation. Don’t tempt your puppy by putting treats next to them. If you want a package under the Christmas tree for your favorite pup choose from a selection of favorite dog toys. Or get your dog some aromatherapy shampoos to enjoy after the holidays to help relax. You can look up dog shampoo reviews to choose the best one.

The Trouble With Tinsel

Holiday decorations are shiny, shimmery, and sooooo tempting for a dog to play with. There are two major concerns when it comes to holiday decorations.

• Intestinal Blockage.
This happens when your dog eats strings, ribbons, bows, yarn, or Christmas decorations like tinsel. When your dog eats these things they can become stuck in their intestines requiring surgery to heal.

• Cuts and other lacerations.
Dogs love to play with balls or other things that may look like favorite dog toys. And they will use their mouths to explore them. Glass decorations can easily break and cut your pooch.

Adding New Pets

A new puppy needs all of your love and attention. They are full of energy and can easily find trouble. The holidays are a far from an ideal time to add a new puppy to your home. If you had been planning on giving a dog as a gift consider alternative options. Put together a basket of favorite dog toys. Or a basket of all the things they’ll need like brushes, jackets, or organic dog shampoo. You can choose the shampoo using dog shampoo reviews. Then when things calm down after the holiday you’ll be ready for your new pet.

An After the Holiday Treat

Once you’ve navigated through the holiday with your dog take some time to treat them to a relaxing bath. There are lots of products out there designed to relax through aromatherapy. Choose the best one for your dog using dog shampoo reviews.

Remember stay safe, stay vigilant, and keep your pup out of urgent care this holiday season!
