I’m not going to lie, I’m extremely partial to this week’s Funny Dog Friday as it features two extremely adorable things: Golden Retrievers, and Babies. I own two golden retrievers and so this video makes me even more warm-hearted than usual. There is something about a golden retriever, how gentle and patient they are with babies and young children, and even how soft their mouths are. Notice how the balloon never once breaks. Impressive, and only a golden could pull it off!

The weekend is upon us, we’re ALMOST to Thanksgiving, and we’re rapidly entering Holiday Season. Start gearing up for some hard core shopping, start looking for some great deals on dog gifts, and start preparing to pamper all those pooches!

Texas Dogfighting Ring BROKEN!

This post today is a slight departure for all of us here at Doggi Bling. Usually we post dog tips, dog toys, treats, crates, houses, dog food, or just about anything else relating to ways you can make your pet happier, healthier, safer or more comfortable. Today, we’re posting about some news that we found, and the reason is…we couldn’t be happier at the outcome, or more upset about the facts behind it.

A dogfighting ring was just busted and broken in Texas. For this, we are overjoyed. According to the article I just read,

“State officials said late Friday that they had begun dismantling one of the largest dogfighting rings in the country that night, arresting eight people and seizing 187 dogs used by a sophisticated network of bettors throughout eastern Texas. Investigators continued to search for suspects Saturday….In all, 55 people were indicted after an undercover investigation that lasted 17 months. Officials said the network’s matches drew crowds of up to 100 people, who placed tens of thousands of dollars in wagers on a single fight.”

The simple fact that this goes on makes me angrier, sadder, and more frustrated than words can adequately describe. How can anyone, anywhere, partake in such disgusting, despicible and atrocious acts? As our friends on Dogster mentioned, the laws need to be changed to make punishments for such crimes MUCH, MUCH more strict and harsh. It is insane that people convicted of these disgusting acts are only facing a maximum sentence of 2 years. Ridiculous. Dog and animal cruelty is a huge problem in this country and around the world, we all need to do whatever we can to help put an end to it.

Join the ASPCA, get educated, do research…if we all do a little, maybe we can do a lot. For starters, could work Houston investigators to put an end to one ring. Lets stop many more!

Dog Toy I Will Never Afford

I can confidently say I will most likely NEVER be able to afford this dog toy. Ever. Basically, I’ll let the video do most of the talking, but what it is, is a “Virtual Soccer Game” that your pet can play and not cause any damage whatsoever.

In the video, you’ll see a little Jack Russell Terrier playing soccer on a miniature soccer field, pushing around a little soccer ball without ever touching or chewing anything! Impressive, no? Could this be the future of dog toys? Perhaps, but then again, the inability for the dog to chew up, taste, smell or well, destroy, the toy might take away a little bit of the fun.

Check out the video, check out the technology that makes it possible, and then check out your wallet and weep openly as you realize your pets will most likely have to settle for yet another $8 chew toy. Ahh, life.

Dogs & Space Heaters Are Not Friends

Yesterday we mentioned a very important warning to each and every one of you out there that just so happens to live anywhere your dog might be a little chilly. Today, we’re issuing yet another warning to those very same people. Man, not to be a total downer but when we read articles about accidents like the one we had yesterday, and the one I just read about today, I can’t help but warn all of my canine loving companions out there!

Today’s warning is about another method of heating you or your pets up: Space Heaters. The warning is simple: Do Not Leave Your Space Heaters Unattended…EVER! Dogs and space heaters can be some of the greatest enemies, well, ever. An unattended space heater, if tipped overy by a dog, can start massive house fires. Don’t believe me, just ask the family of two dogs in Hilton, New York. Here’s the jist of what went down:

“A space heater sparked an accidental fire this morning in an apartment building in Hilton…Firefighters rescued two dogs from the apartment. One dog was initially unresponsive, but improved when firefighters gave the animal oxygen.”

Yikes. Nevertheless, now you know, no electric blankets, and no space heaters if you’re going to be leaving the house at all. Keep those beautiful dogs safe, keep your house safe, and find better ways to keep warm this year!

Hello and hopefully this finds you not TOO miserable being back among the working this fine Monday morning! Just remember, we’re only days away from Thanksgiving and the sleepy, belly-filled weekend that will be sure to follow! This Monday, we here at DoggiBling just wanted to impart some very important warnings to you: NEVER give your dog an electric blanket!

That’s right, according to an article I just read, a chihuahua named Bubba in Bakersfield, California, is extremely lucky to be alive after chewing through an electric blanket and getting severely electrocuted. Apparently, whilst snuggling into his electric blanket, Bubba chewed through and into the power cord and got shocked. He immediately was unconscious and not breathing so his owners gave him CPR. Luckily, they revived him and he was rushed to an animal hospital to recover with some severe burns.

Nevertheless, this is just a reminder for all you, like me, in colder climates: Never attempt to warm your dog up with an electric blanket. The electrical current running through it can be fatal, as Bubba almost proved. Dogs chew, and if they chew the wrong things, they might not be chewing long, so please, please heed this warning! Now, go snuggle up with your pets, keep each other warm and enjoy the rest of your Monday morning!

Funny Dog Friday: Fix Your Hair…Now Sneeze!

Hello and Happy Friday! As mentioned last week, every Friday is going to be Funny Dog Friday and today is no exception. For your viewing pleasure today I found one of the smartest little puppies I’ve seen in awhile that has been taught to do some very hilarious little tricks. I’ve personally NEVER seen a dog that has been taught to fix its own hair, and I have absolutely never seen a dog that can sneeze on command!

So, enjoy your weekend, get out with your dogs and get them plenty of exercise and more than anything, HAVE FUN! Now, check out this wildly talented Sneezing Shih Tzu!

Unique New Dog Clothes from Junjing Industrial

I’ll be the very first to admit, when I hear the name Junjing Industrial, the very last thing I’d imagine a company named that making would be cute little dog clothes, leashes and collars. To me, it sounds like they’d be building the world’s tallest buildings or coming up with a creative new way to use concrete. Nevertheless, amazingly unique dog clothing, pet supplies and accessories it is, and for that, I’m actually pretty thankful.

They have a great deal of different products, seriously ranging from dog food storage to pet grooming to pet diapers to clothing. The clothing is what I’d like to talk about as some of it is not only adorable, but pretty darn original too! Check out these down type jackets with RSS logos on the back. I don’t know about you, but if i owned a small dog, it’d be wrapped up in one of those this winter!

I also love the little stripe shirts and the little hooded sweatshirts. Something about a little lap dog wearing a hooded sweatshirt just gets me every time. Whatever your’e looking for in the world of unique pet gifts, this would be a place to check it out. I spent 20 minutes there and found almost 100 things I’d want to buy!

If you’re a dog owner, I can almost personally guarantee that at some point in time you’ve longed for a type of dog crate, dog furniture or dog bedding that would just blend in beautifully to your home decor. The fact of the matter is, the majority of dog crates are the large plastic and metal contraptions that take up far too much room while looking extremely unsightly…better suited for the garage than the living room.

Celebrity Chefs Making Gourmet Pet Food!

The days of simply scooping a measured amount of dry dog food into your dog’s silver bowl are officially over. The simple fact of the matter is, today, more than ever, there are more choices of amazing pet food than ever before. Today, there are more gourmet choices of pet food than ever before and it seems to be that the trend is for some pretty famous celebrity chef’s are jumping on the bandwagon.

That’s right, everyone from Rachael Ray to Norman Levitz to Rocco DeSpirito are jumping head-first into the pet-food industry and they’re hoping to make a sizable splash. Rachael Ray’s new line, called “Rachael Ray Nutrish” is apparently made with all-natural ingredients and zero fillers. Impressive no? “Nutrish” is apparently available all around the entire country, and is pretty competitively prices. Also joining Ray in the pet-food game is Norman Levitz, a famous chef and educator at Johnson & Wales culinary institute. His new line, named “Wagatha’s - Extraordinary Biscuits for Dogs,” is 100% organic and friends, that is no easy task!

Heck, even “Eight is Enough” actor Dick van Patten has gotten into the game with his “Chinese Takeaway for Dogs” that unfortunately was entirely recalled due to botulism. The bottom line is, celebrity chef’s everywhere are getting into the game and offering up what seems to be a very exciting, and very great new trend: All Natural dog food, dog treats and 100% organic food!
