The Flatiron Building in Manhattan, shot from below on a bright spring day.

I was ambling around the city snapping Flat Stanley pictures for my niece Chloe’s school project, and I just couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots for myself. This one was my favorite because it removed the iconic building from its usual visual context. I took it with my old Casio point-and-shoot.

Front man A. C. Newman told the audience that the band had been scheduled to perform for a TV show in Europe and asked to cover a “classic rock” song. This is what he came up with.

You can see almost every member of the band in this clip (except for Dan Bejar, who wasn’t there, and Blaine Thurier, who’s out of frame to the left) — A. C. Newman and Neko Case are up front, center; Kathryn Calder and John Collins are to the right; and Todd Fancey and Kurt Dahle are in the back.

Neko has a laugh at one point, though their faces are a bit hard to see in the hot lights. They really seemed to enjoy playing this song.

My Life with Blue Hair

It’s true. At one point in my adult life, I dyed my hair blue. This graph should put the incident in perspective.
