Our hearts are with the Monk family at this sad time, they recently lost ‘Otis’ a very special dog with a huge personality, and an important addition to there family.

Otis – stole the hearts of all those who had the privilege of meeting and caring for him and gained the nick name ‘ Barry White’ due to his smooth alluring character.

Otis became ill with (a fungal disease) which finally got the better of him 25th October 2010.

1. Violet sea snail

The Violet sea snail is one weird gastropod. Its lovely lavender shell is paper-thin and fairly fragile – not really a problem because it spends its entire life floating on the surface of tropical oceans. It manages this by whipping up a froth of bubbles with its foot, then sealing the bubbles in mucus to form a foamy raft.

2. Purple Beetles

In most cases, beetles that appear to be purple display this hue by virtue of iridescence. These beautiful, jewel-like insects display purple hues along with shades of blue and green.

3. Purple Emperor Butterfly

Purple Emperors are large butterflies found in southern England, most of continental Europe and in northern Asia as far east as Korea.
Purple emperors normally live in forest treetops but males will descend to the forest floor and to roadsides in search of mineral salts. Sources for these essential salts are fresh animal dung or puddles infused with road salt.

4. Purple Starfish

Starfish are a varied order of creatures that sport a surprisingly varied range of colors, including some striking hues of purple and violet.
It may be that the blue-green tint of seawater screens out some of the redder wavelengths of sunlight, therefore making a starfish that looks purple on dry land much more elusive when viewed underwater.

5. Orchid Dotty Back

Orchid Dottybacks are popular aquarium fish and it’s no wonder why: though it only grows to a length of 2 inches (5cm), they add a jolt of brilliant violet to any indoor seascape. Keep in mind, however, that dottybacks are carnivorous and need a steady diet of meat (shrimp will do) to thrive in captivity.

6. Indian Purple Frog

A bizarre purple burrowing frog discovered in 2003 doesn’t just look unlike any other frog, it is unlike them, having split off from a common ancestor approximately 130 million years ago. The frog, Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis, shocked biologists into awarding it status as a new species in a wholly new family of amphibians.
Nasikabatrachus lives in the Western Ghats region of southern India. The bulbous, bloated, pointy-snouted frog bears the distinction of being the first new family of amphibians to be discovered since 1926. One of the frog’s more unusual features are its turquoise-rimmed tiny eyes… the better to see you with?

7. Indigo Snake

The Eastern Indigo Snake is North America’s longest snake, though some rattlers can outweigh them. At up to 10 feet (3.05m) long, these Colubrid snakes make an instant impression. As big as they are, few people are familiar with the Eastern Indigo Snake or its southwestern relative, the Texas Indigo Snake, which often does not work to the snake’s advantage and that’s unfortunate: these snakes are immune to rattlesnake venom and will often take on rattlers… for lunch.

8. Purple Martin

Purple Martins are among America’s best loved birds, and they seem to like us as well. So thoroughly have these largest members of the Swallow family taken to the multistory Martin “apartments” homeowners have set out for them that they prefer living in them to more natural woodland nesting places.

Squirrels aren’t naturally purple, so when a certain Grey Squirrel appeared sporting a distinctive, violet-tinged coat, naturally it attracted a lot of attention from British park-goers. The squirrel, quickly dubbed “Pete”, was seen by a number of witnesses in and around the grounds of Meoncross School in the town of Stubbington, Hampshire, UK.

10. Pelusa, the Purple Polar Bear

Though the name is not an official one, it is one that reflects the normally snow white bear’s current abode at the Mendoza, Argentina, zoo. According to Julio Alvarez, a veterinarian at the zoo, “At the moment and for a few days longer Pelusa will look purple because we’ve applied an ointment as a treatment for skin problems.”

Now this is downright sick. There's always a concern about giving publicity; it can be like throwing more fuel to the fire....but a Facebook Fan Page to Legalize Dog fighting is going too far.

Here's the exact page description: Legalize dog fighting. Pets are not people. They are your pet. something you own. If i'm not mistaken when you own something you can do what you want with it.
Dog fighting is a felony in every state. We know violence begets more violence - and that means wherever there's dog fighting law enforcement tells me there are always other crimes. Of course, the animal cruelty that goes on is barbaric. Maybe Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, who's been proactive to get prostitution posts off Craig's List can help. He's also been proactive about combating dog fighting.

The Beckham's family dog 'Coco' was spotted sported delicate pink toenails while on her walkies in Los Angeles earlier this week. And she didn't look happy about it.

Tthe family's 8-month-old British bulldog, Coco, was spotted with pretty pink polish on her toenails ,

But rather than her toenails being painted by fun-loving Beckham boys Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz - or having been to a pooch pedicurist - those in the know said they were actually special clip-on claws.

Active Disco Is due for another Haircut

Almost a year old, Disco Is a Potuguese Water Dog also known as a PWD, attends our doogy day care. This breed does not shed its hair. The hair is either wavy or curly. Disco’s Curly coat which is "Compact, cylindrical curls and somewhat lustreless. If left untended, the hair on a PWD will keep growing indefinitely. Problems associated with this include the hair around the eyes growing so long as to impede vision, and matting of the body hair, which can cause skin irritations. For these reasons, PWDs must be trimmed about every two months and the coat brushed every other day.

Disco is very sociable and has many friends at Day Care, including Archie the desirable Daschund. There's never a dull moment when Disco's around, his name says it all.

Baby Muffin is back from holiday

Muffin, our first dog to join our doggy day care resulting from a cross between Chihuahuas and Shih-tzus, she's just returned from her first holiday away from doogy day care and was terribly missed. Due to their small size, they are usually accepted in the cabin spaces of most pet-friendly airlines for additional fees [updated as of January 2010, the fee for American Airlines in a cabin-carry-on was $30USD one-way for a domestic flight within the United States].

Cheeko is a cocker spaniel and poodle cross namely a Cockerpoo!
He has a very timid nature and not used to socializing with other dogs or new people.
Only time will tell if Cheeko will settle and make new friends but the team
are working hard to include Cheeko in on all the fun and games!
Cockers are very friendly dogs that have great scents of smell, that’s why their category is of the Gun dog group!
Where as poodles are more show dogs, grouped in "utility" which is a non sport group or function.
The characteristics of a Cockerpoo would lie between both breeds.

Christmas came early at Doggie Day Care!

Christmas came early yesterday at Doggie Day Care, one of our director became "Santa" and distributed the new toys!
It was a joyous moment for all! The dogs didn't know which toy to pick up first, the ball, the cuddly Mallard Duck, the Giant snail. Dawin managed 3 toys at once! It was a toy overload and they loved every moment.

Doggie Day Care is not just about the carers sitting with the dogs and stroking them, we want it to be an interactive experience for the dogs. Every day is a school day after all and we expect our dogs to learn new things and work hard for their treats.

Yesterday Bea, Badger and Dawin excelled in the Dog Tornado, working out how to remove the plastic bones to reveal tasty, healthy treats.
We gave the other dogs slightly easier games such as Dog Brick. Again Bea, Dawin and Badger out did themselves.

Trying to find toys that can last come sometimes be a mission. It's also frustrating that the ones that last aren't the desired toys of choice. The dogs much prefer a cuddly toy that can it to shreds.
It makes them happy though which is the main thing!

Tyra injects some serious energy into Doggie Day Care.

Tyra is a 10 month old Husky. She is a breath taking dog in appearance and has a huge amount of energy.

Huskies are a popular breed due to their beauty but people do not do enough research into their temperament, behaviour and needs.
Huskies are an active, energetic and resilient breed whose ancestors came from the extremely cold and harsh environment of the Siberian Arctic. They were then imported to Alaska and Canada to become a sled dog.

This is a powerful dog, they require training from a young age, especially when it comes to walking them on a lead.
They can after all, pull a sledge!

Siberians have a thicker coat than most other breeds of dog. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, usually with white paws and legs, facial markings, and tail tip. The most common colors are black and white, copper-red and white, gray and white, and pure white. Striking masks, spectacles, and other facial markings occur in wide variety. They tend to have a wolf-like appearance.

Tyra is a very receptive dog, one of our carers has worked extremely hard with her all day to improve her behaviour and in just one day we have seen a big difference. Being a young female still, there is a fight to see who sits where in the pack. Although Tyra is dominant, she is not aggressive.
In time, Tyra will settle down and we really think that Doggie Day car will be great for both her and her owners.

We have the pleasure of having the beautiful Charlie attend Doggie Day Care.
Charlie, the English Bull Terrier is a perfect example of the phase "appearances can be deceiving"

Charlie attends day care on a regular bases and provides us with an endless amount of cuddles. She also was one of the first dogs that Badger the Springer Spaniel really started interacting with.
She has a very placid temperament and a lot of love to give. She's not picky who gets that loves. Charlie would quite happily curl up with one of our carers or another dog, Otis was the chosen one in the picture!

She can't resist a game of fetch or tug of war. She's quick of the mark and agile. This is one super dog and she's really stolen the hearts of the carers especially mine!

Bull terriers are renowned for being both strong in mind and in body, they are typically very affectionate dogs that love human company.
Charlie mixes well with other dogs and has been socialized from a young age. This really helps with how she behaves.
Charlie is lucky enough to have a lovely and dedicated owner who works for the Royal Veterinary College. Charlie is regularly called up to assist the college in Clinical research and demonstrations. She is quite happy to lie there all day and assist people in there findings.

English Bull Terriers such as Charlie are a joy to have and it's great that she has such committed owners who understand how much she will benefit from Doggie Day Care.

Enter Milly and Mary! Big personalities in small bodies!
Mary is the older of the 2 dogs and craves the most attention. She would quite happily sit on your knee all days and have cuddles and strokes. Milly is a little more independent and far more brave!

The will both stand up for themselves if they feel threatened but their bark is far scarier than their bite.
Seeing them pottering around the day care centre is fun to watch. Up and til today they have stuck firmly together, creating a united front.
When they arrived, they were trembling little balls of fur! Scared to let anyone or anything near them.

The difference in 3 days is amazing. Completely different dogs. The return of Archie the toy Dachshund has really bought Milly out of her shell. Playing chase and having a barking competition!
We spoke to their owner and she can't believe that Milly and Mary and mixing with the other dogs! It's a real joy to see the progress they have made is such a small space of time.

The Pomeranian (often known as a Pom/Pom Pom) is a breed of dog of the Spitz type, named for the Pomerania region in Central Europe and classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size.

These are great dogs for people who love affectionate dogs. Pomeranians are typically very friendly, playful and active. The breed love to be around their owners. They are intelligent and are easily trained.

Milly and Mary are a real joy to have in day care and they have taken well to the carers in the centre. We really enjoy having them here.

Dawin brings a BIG personality to Doggie Day Care!

Dawin is a 9 month old Golden Retriever. She is intelligent, playful, funny and loving! She loves games and attention.
Dawin is a typical Golden retriever and we love having her at Day care.

She is just coming to the end of her first week and she has already fitted in well. She is a great new pal for Badger and a competitor of getting the ball for Louis.

We have recently invested in some interactive toys for the dogs and Dawin excelled in this - finding the treats in record time and working out how to get them.

The Golden Retriever is a breed of dog, historically developed as a gundog to retrieve shot waterfowl and upland game during hunting. They have to have a natural love of water and have the intelligence to work for the owner.
The Golden Retriever was developed in Scotland, they wanted to improve the gun dogs to deal with all terrain and watered areas. Crossing breeds was very frowned up on in those days but the developer of the Golden Retriever was persistent.
The original cross was of a yellow-coloured Retriever, with a Tweed Water Spaniel female dog.The Tweed Water Spaniel is now extinct. The first litter of pups was born in 1868 and from there they continued to breed to fantastic breed.

You can see Dawin is a young, strong willed female who likes to get her own way.

The carers have been working with her on daily basis and Dawin is really enjoying being here.

Dawin's owners have done well to train her, she is excellent with basic commands
We think she is a great new addition and look forward to welcoming her often!

Finley The Chihuahua joins Doggie Day Care.

Meet Finley, the first Chihuahua to join Day Care. Finley is very loved by his owners and often arrives in a stylish t-shirt or rain coat if the weather isn't great.

He is a very nervous dog and we know how difficult it was for his owners to leave him on his first day. We had to work hard with Finley, to get him used to a new surrounding. Spending time with other dogs, some much bigger than him and also getting used to lots of new people. For a dog this small, you have to appreciate every must be so daunting! Finley loves the security of a warm blanket and being high up on your knee!

The Chihuahua originates from Mexico. The most common theory and most likely is that Chihuahuas are descended from the Techichi, a companion dog favored by the Toltecs civilization in Mexico. The Techichi was bigger than the present day Chihuahua, we think this might have began with the introduction of miniaturized Chinese dogs such as the Chinese Crested Dog in South America by the Spanish.
The Chihuahua is acceptable in any colour, solid, marked or splashed. This means colours such as solid white or black are common as are fawn and solid with slashes of colour.

So far Finley has been in twice and really benefited from Doggie Day Care - he is venturing out more really beginning to trust the carers which is a joy to see.

What does happen at Doggie Day Care?

Many people ask what doggie day care actually is and when I tell them about it, some people are a bit negative about it, but I soon realise these people are not dog owners!
If they were, they would understand the worry about leaving their beloved pooch at home all day, alone.
We all have to work, well most of us. If we don't work we still have every day routines that we have to keep to, so does this mean we shouldn't own a dog? Taking our dogs with us is not an option, leaving them in a car is also not an option, especially in this heat. So that's why we offer Doggie Day Care, but what really goes on here?
I'll explain all to you........

Most of our regular attendees wait eagerly at their homes for our carers to collect them. Collection is between 8-9am every morning. Some of the dogs are dropped off by their owners on their way to work and they eagerly await their new found friends a the centre! It's like the calm before the storm and then when everyone is here it's like a big dose of fun and energy has been injected into the building!

All the dogs greet each other like only dogs know how to! A bit of chase is played, a few kisses exchanged, a few sniffs here and there and one by one they come and say hi to the carers!

Those who have not had it already are given breakfast and then its play time! Dogs have an outstanding energy in the morning! The carers work with the dogs, keeping them active and entertained. All boredom is eliminated from their day and they love it!
Around mid morning they are all taken out for their walk, always a fun time for them!
When they come back it's clear they have worn themselves out and it's time for cuddles and snoozes!

When they wake up........it starts all over again! Play time, feeding, walking and then snoozing! The dogs just love it here and so the carers! It's hard to imagine these super star dogs being locked up, home alone all day!

It funny when it comes to home, some of the dogs really don't want to leave! We have to chase them round to put their leads on. We drop the dogs home between 6 - 6.30pm.

We've had nothing but great repports back from their owners, saying their dogs are happeir, more active and healthier.

One day Doggie Day Care will be as normal as Child care!

As our regular attendees get to know each other we have noticed a little "love thang" blossoming. Doggy Day Care would like to announce our own Posh and Becks!

Meet Archie the Toy Dachshund and Bea the full size Dachshund . The beautiful pair spend all day, every day playing, chasing, wrestling and generally having fun.
If one arrives before the other you can tell they are waiting for the arrival of their beloved pal.

It's great for us to see the dogs mixing so well at our Doggy Day Care in Islington, London. These 2 keep them selves entertained for ours, they even let other dogs join in, in the fun and games. They become a team and play tug of war with the bigger dogs.

Dachshunds are naturally curious and tenacious, they will without doubt keep you and your family entertained for hours, days and years! The Dachshund comes in a variety of sizes and coats as well as temperaments.

Archie has a beautiful glossy black and tan coat, he is 7 months old and has a very mischievous and fun nature.
Bea has a fun long wirey coat with a perfect Mohican running down her back. She has the most caring, gentle nature we've ever seen. But don't be fooled she instigates the play and the tug of war!

Badger the Springer Spaniel Does Doggy Day Care!

Meet Badger, a much loved springer spaniel. He's a personal favourite of mine and a valued member of the Doggy Day care.
We have the pleasure of Badger's company three times a week and he loves it here.

This dog can't get enough love and affection, he's stolen the hearts of the carers and is just an all round super star!

Badger had a bit of a rough time before his new family took him in, now he's got loving caring owners that are working with him, showing him the love and care he deserves.
It's great to see such a good ending to a rescue dogs story. Badger is now having gun training with his owners and by all accounts his is a top of the class student.

The Springer Spaniel is a breed of gun dog traditionally used for flushing and retrieving game, hunting rabbits, birds and other game in the undergrowth and getting them to run or fly, originally for the falcon but nowadays, for the gun. This was the original meaning of springing and hence the term "Springer".

Springer spaniels are renowned for their immense energy and Badger is no exception. As you can see, he's a happy smiley dog and we love having him at day care.
