Great concept but ridiculous construction. There are two holes on the bottom of this bowl that collect a great deal of water after washing them. There is no way to completely drain the water between meal times. It appears that these bowls were constructed in some type of kiln which necessitated leaving two exposed holes on the bottom. We purchased the largest one 19 years ago (honest!) from LL Bean. We LOVE this barrel feeder! Over the last year or two, the wood towards the bottom is getting black and soft (from age/humidity, etc., I'm sure), so we are looking to replace it. We never use any type of trash bag liner, and yes, the crumbs accumulate at the bottom, but every once in a while we take the barrel, empty it completely, and let it air out in the sunshine on a nice day. Works like a charm! We love the fact that it sits flush against the wall. I believe if you go to that company's website directly, you have a variety of colors (wood stained) to choose from (a bit more money). We are extremely afraid of using plastic (of any type) to store our dog food (and human food!) due to the chemicals within the plastic. Contrary to what people might think, the dog food doesn't get stale in the barrel either. Highly recommend! These nipples are much better, shaped more like the mother cat's nipples, and in my experience the kittens like them much better. Also, they are much sturdier. When the babies start getting teeth, some of them want to chew on the nipple, and these nipples hold up to chewing much better than the Pet Ag nipple. I'm just now raising a bottle baby that is resisting weaning, and she chewed the end off a Pet Ag nipple within the first few seconds of chewing -- luckily she had not swallowed the nipple end. I had to make an emergency run to the store to get more Four Paws bottles.

This series of food storage products is as good as they get. We purchased one 6 years ago and it seals as well today as when we first brought it home. The plastic doesn't age or discolor and it's easy to use the screw top lid. It comes with a scooper cup as well. The picture is accurate for dimensional proportions, but the product description on Amazon is incorrect. This is 14" x 14" x 20" and it holds 50 pounds of dry food. I wish I had read the review before me, before purchasing this product. The bottle can't hold up to UV because it's plastic. The bottle got brittle, and developed cracks. The birds liked it OK till it broke. If it were glass, it would be great.

Once it got broken (after 5 years of use) I could not find anything similar until now. It is one of the best I've ever had so far. Most of the hay racks hold very little hay, are hard to refill and they take up the space inside the cage. I so wish I would have gotten them long ago! Mine are used for birds. (Society Finch) They save me from opening the cage and risking my birds getting out (to our four awaiting cats). This, alone, is an awesome feature. Heavy duty construction and material. I don't think a person could ask for better. I am completely satisfied with them and they make my job of watering SO much easier. The last (silo type) waterers I had would get stuck and my birds wouldn't have anything to drink in the trough. They were made of plastic (another thing I did NOT like) and were very difficult to wash and keep clean. (Seed hulls were always in the drinking trough.) With these my birds always have water. And it's clean! No "bacteria soup". (Please let me mention here, if you change them out every other day (like I do), or a couple of times a week, once a week, check the ball each morning on the spicket when you're taking care of them. Simply roll your finger across the end where the ball is. To ensure that it is where it's supposed to be. If your finger is wet, it's doing it's job. It takes only a second.) Others mentioned the work in attaching them to the cage. And that is so. (All the hardware is to keep bottle safely, and firmly, in place.) I had my 16 yr. old son help me. He, holding the nut with a crescent wrench on the inside of the cage, and I, using a flat head screwdriver on the outside. (Those are the only tools needed.) Having two people made this little job SO much easier. (I can't imagine doing it by myself. I don't think I would have been able to.) This set up DOESN'T take long at all. Very easy, simple instructions...and you're done. Wash the bottle/spicket, fill up, pop in the rubber stopper, and you're ready for use. When needing to change the water, you simply push up the little metal bracket holding the bottle at the top (shown in picture) and pull out the bottle. Very easy and handy! These are easy to clean with a bottle brush. And a nice WIDE mouth to the heavy duty glass bottle makes cleaning a cinch. WONDERFUL! (Bottle can also be put in the dishwasher if you want. I hated to try it for fear that the painted on red "LIXIT" word would be compromised and it wouldn't look new. I'm picky!) These (I bought several), are an excellent product and I simply couldn't be happier with them. Yep!
