Colonial Madis - A Charming Colonial Doll

Colonial Prudence and her brother, Colonial Madis, just love living in New England during the colonial times and love telling everyone they are from Plymouth, Massachusetts.

They are right proud to tell everyone that their grandmother and grandfather came over on the "Mayflower" and that all the members of their family belong to the "Mayflower Society" which is an exclusive club of colonists.

Life during the 1st year their grandparents arrived was difficult at best and many, many of their grandparents friends did not survive. They were lucky, and their grandparents did. For that "Colonial Prudence" and her brother, "Colonial Madis" are forever grateful.

The Fall is their favorite time of the year and during this season in New England their thoughts turn towards their grandparents, the 1st Thanksgiving in Plymouth, and what life must have been life for the first colonists.

Neither "Colonial Prudence" or "Colonial Madis" have any delusions as to how difficult it was. They have been hearing about it their whole life from their parents. They can probably recite the story line by line. In fact, Colonial Madis does from time to time when he and Colonial Prudence are alone.

Colonial Prudence is too well mannered and well behaved to ever push that envelope too far with her parents. She is every bit the respectful daughter.

Colonial Madis, on the other hand, does test them and sometimes their parents get a wee bit annoyed. Then Colonial Madis flashes his folks that charming smile of his and, well, all is usually forgotten. He can charm the pants off his mother and father.

"Colonial Madis" is a 15" Colonial cloth doll with an embroidered face. He has button eyes, a raised nose, and blushed cheeks. The inside of his mouth is colored rose. His boots are cross-tied and painted black and he's sporting white knee socks.

Colonial Madis is wearing a linen shirt with a matching linen and lace trimmed ascot. He has a flannel vest tied in 3 places with DMC Embroidery floss. His pantaloons are gathered and cuffed and match his lined jacket. His lined jacket has front inserts, front and back tails, and is top stitched along the edges. Three buttons are sewn to the front inserts of his lined jacket.

Colonial Madis has straight brown hair along the side seams of his head with the back of his head left bald.

Colonial Madis really is mindful of his family's reputation despite what his sister, Colonial Prudence says. After all, one day he will be the head of the family and will need to carry on the family name with pride. His grandparents worked too hard and sacrificed too much for him not to be mindful of that.

Colonial Prudence - New Handmade Doll and E-Pattern

The apron that is tied around her waist is lace trimmed and tied around her waist in the back. She has a mass of curly brown hair which is barely controlled under her colonial bonnet, which is also lace trimmed and lined.

Colonial Prudence is ever mindful of her family reputation and standing in the community and has her hands full keeping her brother, Colonial Madis, in line.

However, she also has a secret weapon in her charming smile and knows that when she gives her brother a certain glance and then a certain smile that he knows enough to behave himself.

Bridget - Nurse For All Seasons! NEW Handmade Nurse Doll and E-Pattern

"Bridget - Nurse For All Seasons!" is one of the members of the "Nurse Series" of cloth dolls and they are all getting ready for the "Emergency Worldwide Disaster Drill."

You see, you can never be prepared enough for a natural disaster or disaster of any nature - even a global one. So, they like nurses all over the world are all getting ready to do whatever is required of their nursing position during the drill.

They all took an oath to save lives and that is what they all intend to do. But, they and we all know that their jobs aren't just about saving lives - their jobs also entail caring for the patients, encouraging the patients, and teaching the patients how to care for themselves.

Nurses are vital to the health care profession and anyone who has even been in a hospital anywhere in the world knows that hospitals cannot function with nurses. They are the heart and soul of any hospital and heart and soul of the health care profession.

So, the nurses are getting ready. I have no doubt they will be. No matter where in the world they are.

"Bridget - Nurse For All Seasons!" is a 15" country cloth nurse doll from France. She has a muslin body and embroidered face with embroidered eyes, embroidered and raised nose, and an embroidered mouth. She is wearing fringed bloomers that are gathered at the waist and legs. Her pink striped nurse's uniform is gathered at the waist, wrists, and gathered at the neck.

Her white nurse's apron has a front bib, cross straps, and embroidered waistband that is tied in a knot in the back. She is carrying a pile of sheets and blankets.

"Bridget - Nurse For All Seasons!" is the nursing supervisor for all the candy stripers and has her job cut out for her.

You see, no matter how prepared you are she knows that you can never have enough sterile and clean linens. So, she is stock-piling as many as she can in order to be thoroughly prepared.

However, Bridget has been through this drill thousands of times and been through thousands of real disasters and knows that you are never totally prepared. She's going to try and do her best and teach all the "candy stripers" what they should be doing.

Bridget is really good at her job so we have no doubt she will be prepared.

Chef Andy - Head Chef To The Stars! - Adorable New Handmade Raggedy Andy Doll and E-Pattern

"Chef Andy - Head Chef To The Stars!" won't be cooking for the "STARS" today.

You see, he and many other chefs are all getting ready for the "Emergency Worldwide Disaster Drill." They're job is to feed all the medical doctors, nurses, emergency personnel, patients, etc. Even the animals.

Basically, everyone and anyone who needs to be fed.

It's a tall order, but Chef Andy can handle it. He figures that if he can handle a snooty, demanding "star" - he can handle anyone. Including a 5-star general.

Well, maybe not the 5-star general. He or she might be a little intimidating.

Everyone else - no sweat. 5-star generals? Hmmmmm.....

"Chef Andy - Head Chef To The Stars!" is a 17" primitive raggedy Andy cloth chef doll. He has a muslin body and embroidered face with black and white satin stitched eyes, red satin stitched nose, and an outline embroidered mouth with red stain stitched lips. His eyebrows are embroidered as are his eyelashes and he has rose blushed cheeks. His boots are black and cross-laced.

Chef ndyA has a mass of raggedy straight red yarn hair glued all over the top and back of his head. His puffy chef's cap is lined, has a center band and gathered puff top, and is attached to the top and back of his head.

He is wearing a sleeveless tee short that is gathered at the neck. His chef pantaloons are puffy, tightly fasted at the knees and gathered at the waist. His double breasted and lined short waist chef's jacket sports 3 rows of 2 buttons each.

He is carrying his favorite cooking book and trademark rolling pin.

"Chef Andy - Head Chef To The Stars!" has his hands cut out for him.

Cooking for hundreds of thousands is no problem for Chef Andy. It's keeping the thousands of chef's under him in line and on time.

Chef Andy knows that chef's have a tendency to spend too much time on their food creations and knows that during an emergency the idea is to get the food out there to feed the starving masses - not worry about if it looks appetizing and pretty on the plate.

He can worry about the latter when he goes back to cooking for the "Stars" but, not when cooking for hungry 5-star generals. There are "stars" and there are the REAL 5- stars.

Gypsy Annie Loves To Travel - New Handmade Primitive Raggedy Doll

While "Primitive Andy" is the shyest "dollie" on the planet, and "Primitive Annie" is the sweetest "dollie" on the planet, "Gypsy Annie" takes the prize at being the most adventuresome "dollie" on the planet. She may be a "dollie", but she is a "gypsy" after all. She travels from town to town and lives an unconventional life.

Given how much she travels it's amazing that she was even aware of all the brouhaha she had created concerning the lack of stories for "Primitive Andy", "Primitive Annie" and herself over on "The Dollie Storage Room" blog and Linda's Blog seven years ago. You see, she was the impetus behind the letter writing and privately urged their stories being told then. She wrote the notes. If she thought seven years was enough time back then, most assuredly she thinks ten years is more than enough to wait for a story. I would have to agree which is why I decided to post the raggedies stories now.

So, here's her story:

Like many of her relatives "Gypsy Annie" is a fortune teller. It's not an occupation she would have picked for herself. She'd rather be a travel agent, but she had a natural ability for it and so that is what she does for a living.

"Gypsy Annie" really prefers to travel and would love to travel around the world some day. The problem is that she doesn't make a lot of money as a fortune teller. But she's saving her pennies and hoping to do a bit of traveling this summer.

Gypsy Annie has a coffee stained cloth body, embroidered face with black bead eyes, and oodles of freckles. She has red lace-tied boots and long raggedy red looped hair along the sides and top of her head.

She is wearing a coffee stained, tattered, and fringed shirt that is gathered at the neck and has fringed sleeves that are gathered at the wrists. Her skirt is gathered at the waist and fringed along the edges. She has a tattered sash and fringe tied around her waist and she is wearing a pair of fringed bloomers that are gathered at the waist. She has a fringed gypsy kerchief tied around her head.

"Gypsy Annie" is a wanderer by nature. She dreams of one day circling the globe.She knows there is something like that in her future. She just doesn't know when it will happen. She's got her fingers crossed for "soon!"

Primitive Annie Is Just The Sweetest - New Handmade Primitive Doll

"Primitive "Annie" is on the shy side, just like "Primitive Andy" who is her prince charming. While he is the shyest "dollie" on the planet she is the sweetest "dollie" on the planet. And, both got embroiled in the latest "dollie stories" fiasco on "The Dollie Storage Room" blog and Linda's Blog. Such attention to herself doesn't make her happy at all. And, she knows it doesn't help "Primitive Andy" at all.

"Primitive Annie's" pattern was recently revised and in being revised there was a clamor as to why she didn't have a story. It had been 7 years since her creation and she had no story. Some of the "dollies" felt this wasn't right. It didn't bother "Primitive Annie." She was far too sweet to let anything like that bother her. She knew that Linda would tell her story in due course.

Here's "Primitive Annie's" story:

"Primitive Annie" was the 2nd primitive doll that Linda designed, but her first "raggedy Annie."

Sometimes you find someone who is just plain sweet. Someone who always thinks of others before herself, always tries to do the right thing, always tries to be polite and respectful of her elders, and who always tries to be the best she can be.

Well, "Primitive Annie" is such a person - or, such a "dollie!" She is just the sweetest and nicest "dollie" you ever could meet. And, she's in love with her prince charming - "Primitive Andy.

"Primitive Annie" likes to pretend that she's Cinderella and that "Primitive Andy" is her prince charming. She dreams of a beautiful future and life together. The problem is that "Primitive Andy" is so shy that it's almost impossible for her to get near him. In fact, he is the shyest "dollie" on the planet.

Primitive Annie has a coffee stained cloth body, embroidered face with black bead eyes, and oodles of freckles. She is wearing a coffee stained, tattered, and fringed dress with 3/4 length fringed sleeves. She is also wearing gathered bloomers and a tattered and fringed apron. Floss is sewn to her feet and legs for her raggedy red stripes.

"Primitive Annie" may be wearing tattered clothes, but she is sweetness in life. And, she has a dilemma. How can he know how wonderful she is if she can't even get to talk to him? How can Cinderella meet her Prince Charming when he's so shy?

Adorable But Shy Primitive Andy - Handmade Primitive Raggedy Doll

There are shy people and there are really, really, really shy people. Primitive Andy is one of those people. He could very well be the shyest person in the world.

Well, maybe we should clarify that. He could very well be the shyest "dollie" in the world.

He just hates to draw attention to himself, hates to be the center of attention, hates talking before an audience, hates to have his picture taken, and hates having things written about him. The latter is why he has gone 10 years without a story.

Seven years ago a lot of attention was draw to 3 of the "raggedies" who had written notes to me demanding I tell their story. I posted about the latest "dollie stories" fiasco on "The Dollie Storage Room" blog and my Linda's Blog back in 2011.

I never disclosed who wrote the letters. What all the "dollies" don't know is that Primitive Andy asked me not to write a story about him. He told me he was just too shy and would prefer not to have a story written about him. So, I took pity upon him back then and didn't write his story. However, he's not a kid anymore and has grown up a lot in the last three and is just so adorable I decided it was time to tell his story.

Here's his story:

"Primitive Andy" has the distinct honor of being the first primitive doll that Linda designed and likes to pride himself on being small, lean, and, well, adorable. Just don't tell anyone he said that and just don't draw any attention to him. "Primitive Andy" is probably the shyest "dollie" in the world. And, he's just fine with that.

It was tough enough for him to have his picture taken for his pattern. He was on edge for several days before and sick to his stomach. But, Linda assured him there would only be two people in the studio taking pictures. She would be there and "Primitive Andy" would be there. No one else.

So, "Primitive Andy" agreed.

"Primitive Andy" has a coffee stained cloth body, embroidered face with black bead eyes, and loads of freckles. He's wearing a coffee stained and fringed shirt with 3/4 length fringed sleeves, buttons and patches. His tattered and fringed pantaloons are gathered at the waist and middle of his calves and have patches. He has a small tattered ribbon tied around his neck, and raggedy red cut hair along the sides and top of his head. Floss is sewn to his feet and legs for his raggedy red stripes.

If you look closely at "Primitive Andy's" pictures you may see a little trepidation in his face. He could barely muster a smile when Linda said, cheese!" He knows there's only Linda and himself in the studio taking his picture, but he's just so shy. He really would prefer not to be photographed at all.

He's just unbelievably shy. ;Probably the shyest "dollie" in the world. But, he's just fine with that! Not everyone needs there 15 minutes of fame! Certainly not "Primitive Andy."

Andy Gotcha - NEW Handmade Primitive Raggedy Andy Ornament and E-Pattern

"Andy Gotcha" doesn't mind a little teasing from his sister, "Annie Gotcha." In fact, most of the time he's a really good sport about it. Sometimes, however, he isn't in the mood for being teased.

Sometimes he wishes that Annie were a little more serious. Then he could convey to her exactly what it is he's worried about. Why he feels he has the weight on his shoulders. But, "Annie Gotcha" is just too much of a carefree spirit.

Penelope Pumpkin Doll - New Handmade Victorian Art Doll

Penelope Pumpkin Lady is just the sweetest pumpkin lady you'd ever want to meet. She's very refined and loves dressing in her finest Victorian outfit and sipping English Breakfast Tea with scones. For her life doesn't get any better than that.

Penelope's pumpkin friends get angry at her because she doesn't spend any time in the pumpkin patch with them. She tries to explain to them that the pumpkin patch is not a place for a refined lady, especially one wearing her finest Victorian outfit. And, the bonnet - well, there's no way she'd wear that in the pumpkin patch. So, she tries to coax her friends into having tea and scones with her. It's not an easy sell as they like being outside in the pumpkin patch and hope that Penelope will one day come to her pumpkin senses and join them. They've got their fingers or should I say stems crossed.

Penelope Pumpkin Lady is a 19" cloth pumpkin head lady doll with a beautifully embroidered round head and self-sitting square bottom body. Her orange pumpkin hands and feet match her orange body and round orange head. Her beautiful pumpkin head is outlined and indented with dark brown floss to create the affect of a pumpkin. She's wearing black boots that are criss-crossed with embroidery floss for laces.

She is wearing eyelet lace trimmed bloomers gathered at the waist and upper calf. Her multi-colored dress coordinates beautifully with her large eyelet lace trimmed lined bonnet with gathered lace trim, silk floral, and ribbon decorative accents.

Her beautiful dress skirt matches the outside of her bonnet and her dress bodice matches the lining of her bonnet. Her dress has a beautiful eyelet lace trimmed dress insert and eyelet lace and ribbon trimmed dress sleeves. It is gathered at the neck and waist and has 3 accent buttons on the dress insert and a wide ribbon wrapped around the waist and tied in a bow in the front.

Her beautiful coordinating jacket is eyelet lace and ribbon trimmed along all the edges and the sleeves and is fastened together with a beautiful ribbon and bead floral decoration.

"Rag-doll Anthony and Rag-doll Annabell Lee" - An Unusual Pair Of Handmade Rag-Dolls

"Rag-doll Anthony" and "Rag-doll Annabell Lee" are as close as brother and sister can get. "Rag-doll Anthony" is very protective of his baby sister "Rag-doll Annabell Lee." He's much wiser, or so he thinks, and knows the ropes, or so he thinks.

"Rag-doll Annabell Lee" lets her brother think that he's in charge but she really knows who rules the roost. Not her Mother, not her Father, and certainly not her older brother, "Rag-doll Anthony." For Rag-doll Annabell Lee it's amazing what a little intuition can do.

"Rag-doll Anthony" and "Rag-doll Annabell Lee" aren't your average rag-dolls. They're very special rag-dolls. You see, they were born with all their seams on the outside.

Their parents were very concerned about this when they were born as they didn't want their children to have a difficult childhood. They were envisioning that they would both be teased unmercifully. You know how children can be! However, they were pleasantly surprised. All the the rag-doll children love both "Rag-doll Anthony" and "Rag-doll Annabell Lee."

The Rag-doll children feel that, "they may be different but, once you get to know them, you realize they are just like you and me." Annabell Lee is a primitive girl rag-doll with a cloth body, an embroidered face, and running stitch embroidery on her body, head, legs, and arms. She has dark raggedy red curly hair on the top of her head decorated with fringed bows. She is wearing a fringed dress with fringed bodice insert decorated with buttons tied with DMC embroidery bows, fringed bottom ruffle, and fringed balloon sleeves gathered at the elbows. She also has fringed bloomers gathered at the waist. Strips of burgundy material are tied to her legs.

New Handmade Dolls - Please Meet Pamela and Peter

"Pamela With The Big Eyes Loves Her Fall Colors" and her brother, "Peter With The Big Eyes Loves His Fall Outfit", are unusually close. They're fraternal twins, born two minutes apart on October 12 - Columbus Day. As a result they love the Fall and it's bright, beautiful colors, and they love being Colonial. Born and bred in Salem, MA.

So, it is no surprise that they love to wear their best Fall outfits when out for a walk on a beautiful Fall day. They love to walk down near the pier and the harbor. It's just so beautiful and peaceful down there. Plus, when they get hungry they can have afternoon tea and one of their favorite scones at a local cafe.

Pamela is a quiet, shy but proper, colonial girl. She was taught how to be a gracious lady and believes in being proper, friendly and courteous at all times - especially when out in public. Her only problem is that everyone keeps looking at her and her big, beautiful eyes - especially the young "gentlemen.". With all the eyes on her she gets self-conscious and starts to blush. And, when that happens she blushes from head to toe. Then all the young gentleman can't help themselves and vie for her attention - which irks her brother, Peter, to no end.

Peter is a terrific brother but is a tad conceited. He also has a bit of a temper - especially when it comes to his sister and all the young "gentlemen" vying for her attention. He knows she is absolutely beautiful with her big, beautiful eyes but hates all the attention she gets from the young "gentleman." Since he also has big, beautiful eyes he gets an enormous amount of attention himself from all the young "ladies." Of course, he doesn't mind this. That's okay. It' just not okay for Pamela

He also has black boots with gold embroidery floss cross-crossed for ties.

Pete is the epitome of a Colonial "gentleman" - except when it comes to his sister, Pamela, and his temper gets the better of him.

Beautiful, Big-Eyed Handmade Dolls - "Alice, Denis, and Beatrice" Colonial Dolls and Doll Patterns

"Alice" and "Denis" just want everyone to know about them as they view it as a nice gesture on their part - sharing their beauty with others.

Every time "Alice" or "Denis" enter a room people gasp. They are just taken away by the sheer beauty of both "Alice" and "Denis and their big, beautiful eyes. And, then, if "Beatrice" enters to serve tea they gasp once again. Look at her big, beautiful eyes.

Alice and Denis are twins who were born during the Colonial period. Beatrice as you can probably tell from her name "Beatrice - Maid For All Seasons" works for their family. Both Alice and Denis are very aware of their sheer physical beauty as evidenced by their names: "Alice Loves Her Big Eyes" and "Denis Loves His Big Eyes."

Alice is the epitome of a proper, colonial girl. She has manners and believes in being friendly and courteous at all times. Denis with one "n" as he likes to correct everyone is a tad conceited. He's well aware of his affect on other's especially females. He isn't at all proper like his twin sister, Alice. He might dress properly but he's a rascal and the girls just love to run their fingers through his full head of curly brown hair. He spends a lot of time in front of the mirror looking at his own big, beautiful eyes. In fact, it takes him forever to get ready to go somewhere as he has to go from mirror to mirror throughout the house checking how he looks before he goes out. It drives his Mother crazy as they are forever late where ever they have to go.

Beatrice, herself, is no slouch mind you. She has her own set of big, beautiful eyes. And, when she looks at Alice and Denis they pay attention. They know not to cross Beatrice for she knows how to get even. She hides their mirrors.

Another New Handmade Munchkin Doll - Meet "Morty The Pumpkin Munchkin"

What you already know is that "Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow" and "Elmer's Little Boy" are best friends. Punky is a" Victorian Munchkin scarecrow who looks just like his best friend Elmer except he's a scarecrow.

What you don't know is that Punky has an adorable younger brother and younger sister who just happen to be fraternal twins. His younger brother is "Morty The Pumpkin Munchkin, Punky's Little Brother Scarecrow Boy Doll and His Pumpkins." His younger sister is "Melanie Munchkin, Punky's Little Sister Scarecrow Girl Doll and Her Pumpkins." Morty was born December 31 at 11:59 P.M. Melanie was born January 1 at 12:01 A.M. So, while Morty might appear to be a year older due to the year differences in fact he is only 2 minutes older.

Punky got his nickname when Elmer was a little boy. You see, Elmer couldn't pronounce "Pumpkin" which was Punky's Dad's name for him. So, "Punky" just stuck and it's been his nickname ever since. "Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow" would prefer to be called Pumpkin, at least it relates to the Fall and scarecrows. Elmer pays him no heed. He likes "Punky" just fine.

So, when he learned that his younger brother and sister LOVED pumpkins and LOVED being surrounded by them he was thrilled. They could sit in the pumpkin field surrounded by pumpkins for hours on end and be in pumpkin heaven. For scarecrows it doesn't get any better than that.

"Melanie Munchkin, Punky's Little Sister Scarecrow Girl Doll and Her Pumpkins" just LOVES her older brother, Punky. So, when she found out that Punky had his own line of custom fabrics she wanted a dress made out of his Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Large fabric. Since she asked me and since I love sewing with Punky's custom fabric line I happily agreed. And, since she had some of Punky's customs fabrics in her clothing her twin brother, Morty The Pumpkin Munchkin, Punky's Little Brother Scarecrow Boy Doll and His Pumpkins, had to have something made out of Punky's custom fabrics as well. He has a shirt made out of Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric.

Punky has four different fabrics in his line so Melanie is hoping Linda will make her 3 other dresses out of his Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric, Punky With The White Background fabric, and Punky 2 With Brown Background fabric. She's got her fingers crossed.

Morty’s face is embroidered and he has a cloth head and body. He has a beautiful shirt made out of "Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric" that is fringed along the sleeve hem edges and bottom edge and gathered at the neck and wrists. He is sporting an adorable bow-tie made out of "Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric" as well. His shirt hangs out to cover his pot belly. He's also wearing a Fall color coordinated lined vest that is running stitched embroidered along the edges and a lined Sculley cap that barely controls his thick, curly, blond ash locks. His brown pantaloons with cuffs and pants waistband are made out of matching "Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric."

Melanie and her twin brother, Morty, just LOVE their quilted pumpkins and especially love their older brother, Punky. As far as they are concerned life doesn't get any better than sitting in the pumpkin field surrounded by pumpkins and Punky.

"Melanie Munchkin, Punky's Little Sister Scarecrow Girl Doll and Her Pumpkins" just LOVES her older brother, Punky. So, when she found out that Punky had his own line of custom fabrics she wanted a dress made out of his Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Large fabric. Since she asked me and since I love sewing with Punky's custom fabric line I happily agreed. And, since she had some of Punky's customs fabrics in her clothing her twin brother, Morty The Pumpkin Munchkin, Punky's Little Brother Scarecrow Boy Doll and His Pumpkins, had to have something made out of Punky's custom fabrics as well. He has a shirt made out of Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric.

Punky has four different fabrics in his line so she's hoping Linda will make her 3 other dresses out of his Punky, Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Mirror Small fabric, Punky With The White Background fabric, and Punky 2 With Brown Background fabric. She's got her fingers crossed.

Melanie's face is embroidered and she has a cloth head and body. She is wearing lace trimmed bloomers gathered at the waist and ankles and has black felt boots with laces criss-crossed with embroidery thread. She has a beautiful dress made out of "Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow - Large fabric" that is lace trim edged and gathered at the waist, neck, and wrists. A large ribbon is wrapped around her waist and tied in a large bow in the front.

Her Fall color coordinated vest is lined with bright and cheery yellow print fabric and is running stitch embroidered along the edges. She has beautiful and thick straight orange hair along the side seams of her head with the back of her head left bald which is barely contained underneath her lined bonnet with fabric that matches her lined vest. A brown bandanna is wrapped around her neck and she is surrounded by two of her favorite quilted pumpkins.

Melanie and her twin brother, Morty, just LOVE their quilted pumpkins and especially love their older brother, Punky. As far as they are concerned life doesn't get any better than sitting in the pumpkin field surrounded by pumpkins and Punky.

Gotta Love Scarecrows and Munchkins - "Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow"

One of my favorite dolls is "Elmer's Little Boy." He an adorable munchkin so, of course, he had to have an adorable munchkin mate. And if you're going to have an adorable mate why not a munchkin scarecrow?

"Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow" and "Elmer's Little Boy" are best friends. Punky is an 11" Victorian Munchkin scarecrow who looks just like his best friend Elmer except he's a scarecrow. So, what's a little difference between friends? This doesn't bother Elmer a bit.

Punky got his nickname when Elmer was a little boy. You see, Elmer couldn't pronounce "Pumpkin" which was Punky's Dad's name for him. So, "Punky" just stuck and it's been his nickname ever since. "Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow" would prefer to be called Pumpkin, at least it relates to the Fall and scarecrows. Elmer pays him no heed. He likes "Punky" just fine.

As we said, Elmer and Punky are best friends. The only problem with this is Elmer doesn't understand that "Punky" is a SECRET pal. As such, he's only seen and heard by Elmer. That's right. Only Elmer can see him and talk to him. Punky likes Elmer but feels that Elmer keeps him from doing his job. After all, he is a scarecrow.

Punky, on the other hand, knows that he's a SECRET pal. He also knows that he has a job to do and Elmer is keeping him from doing it. After all, he is a scarecrow and has to do what scarecrows do - nickname and all. And his job is to scare away the birds and the crows not to spend all day playing with Elmer.

But, he likes playing with Elmer so he's learned how to charm his way around the birds and scarecrows. And, it actually is working. Elmer is his friend. In fact, he's his best friend. Not only that, but he's his only friend. So, he'll play along with Elmer as much as he wants. For he knows that if Elmer doesn't think about him he doesn't exist.

"Punky - Elmer's Little Scarecrow" has on the exact same outfit as Elmer except his is a lot more tattered and fringed. And, he's allowed to have his shirt hanging out. After all, he works in a field.

Punky’s face is embroidered and he has a cloth head and body. He has a lined vest, bowtie, fringed shirt which he wears out to cover his pot belly. He’s wearing pantaloons, lined sculley cap and has raffia for hair.

The one thing he has that other scarecrows don't is a wonderful pair of black and white shoes. If his name doesn't distinguish him from the other scarecrows then his fancy shoes will. He also has a wooden rake all ready for the leaves. Or, maybe he’s using it to swat those nasty crows. Nope! Not Punky. His rake is all show. He is "The Charming Scarecrow" after all.

Plus, he has a SECRET weapon, his SECRET pal in Elmer. Try to top that all you other scarecrows.

Another One Of My Favorite Handmade Dolls - "Doris Marie - Elmer's Little Sister"

"Doris Marie - Elmer's Little Sister" was named after my grandmother because she looks like some of the pictures I have of my grandmother as a little girl. Just so adorable.

Doris Marie has a brother, Elmer for which she is very grateful. My real grandmother was an only child and wished and wished and wished she had a brother or sister. So, I thought it might please her to know that her "doll pattern" namesake has a brother. Hopefully, this has brought a chuckle to her face wherever she is.

"Doris Marie - Elmer's Little Sister" is a 10" Victorian girl doll pattern and is every bit as cute as her brother, Elmer, and she knows it. She thinks she can sweet talk her way in and out of anything. She's also a bit of a crossword puzzle whiz.

People always comment about how much Doris Marie and Elmer look alike. Even if they're not seen together, people would know they were brother and sister. They both have the same impish expressions on their faces and a glint in their eyes. Doris Marie's glint is born of intelligence. Elmer's glint is born of being an imp.

As mentioned Doris Marie is very intelligent and is known as a "crossword whiz." You can find her every afternoon in the kitchen doing a cross word puzzle and drinking a cup of tea. Then, she's off to her library to sit in her favorite rocking chair and read, for she's also an avid reader. Or, should we say voracious reader.

"Doris Marie - Elmer's Little Sister" is every bit as cute as her brother, Elmer, and she knows it. She knows she can sweet talk her way in and out of anything. But, she also knows that while Elmer is adorable she is not only "cute" she's "brainy." In fact, she's probably the smartest "Dollie" in "The Dollie Storage Room." She’s also a bit of a crossword puzzle whiz. Don't think you can fool Doris Marie. You won't be able to. She may be "cute as a button", but she'd run circles around you in the "spelling bee."

Doris is wearing a green linen dress with her favorite lined vest. It's so bright and cheering she can't help but feel gleeful when she wears it. Plus the lining of her vest matches the lining of her hat and her kerchief. And, she just has on the cutest hat you'd ever want to see. All in all she's a "pretty little package" and is right proud of herself.

Doris Marie has a cloth head and body. Her face is embroidered and she has a mass of freckles on her nose and along her cheeks. Doris Marie has bloomers, a adorable green dress with lace trim,lined vest, lined and gathered bonnet, matching kerchief, black & white shoes, and wild uncontrollable red hair.

Elmer knows how cute his "little sister is" and has his hands full when it comes to his pals. What Elmer doesn't realize is that Doris Marie has them all wrapped right around her little finger. She lets him think that he's her older brother and is protecting her. That's okay, Elmer, you're doing a good job! Doris Marie knows that her intelligence will always keep the boys in line.

My "Elmers Little Boy" Handmade Victorian Doll

Sometimes you're a little partial to one particular doll. Such is the case with my "Elmer's Little Boy." It's not difficult to see why that is. He's just so cute you just want to squeeze him.
With a big pot belly and big ears he has loads of charm. Worse - he knows it and uses it to his every advantage. He can charm them young, he can charm them old, male or female. It doesn't matter. They all succumb to his charm and that impish gleam in his eyes.

"Elmer's Little Boy" has a cloth head and body. His face is embroidered and he has a mass of freckles along his cheeks and his nose. Elmer has a lined double breasted vest decorated with a double row of buttons, bow tie, rolled cuff shirt, velour pantaloons, black & white shoes, lined cap and uncontrollable wild brown hair.

Here's the story behind "Elmer's Little Boy"..... My sister-in-laws parents who are in their 80's recently had a yard sale because they were moving into a much smaller house. Elmer (my sister-in-laws father) had an old plastic kewpie doll that had previously belonged to his deceased sister that he had kept I think in his toolbox (I might have that wrong).

In any event, he had held on to this doll for over many, many years. The only problem with the doll was that it had no clothes. He was going to throw it away but decided instead to give it to me. I was touched as I got the sense that this doll had a lot of sentimental value for him.

In any event, I decided to take it home and design some clothes for it. I wanted an early american little boy look so I decided on pantaloons, a vest, shirt, and scully cap. Since I had already designed the clothes for his kewpie I decided to design a cloth doll as well.

A little while later I took the plastic kewpie doll (with his new clothes) back to Elmer. Elmer was thrilled. It touched my heart to see how happy he was with my gift. Elmer's kewpie doll now sits proudly on the top of his bureau (I think).

I named my cloth pattern Elmer's Little Boy after Elmer's plastic kewpie doll. Elmers Original Kewpie is shown above and my Elmers Little Boy cloth version is shown below. The clothes for both dolls were made from some of Elmer's old clothes that I had gotten from his yard sale. I hope you like both dolls.
