If you are looking to escape to Paradise, look no further than Hawaii’s island town of Kona. This picturesque town is located on the big island of Hawaii and home to many historic sites. Those that visit this area consider it to be pure paradise. It is warm year around, making it an ideal place to visit at any time. However, if you want to plan a trip soon, there is no better time. The temperature will be hot, giving you nothing better to do than escape to the ocean water.

Tropical
One of the amazing things about visiting this area is that it is very tropical. In fact, it tends to rain a lot in this area despite the warm temperatures. Plus, there are a lot of fun mountains that visitors to the area love to explore.

More Than Simply Swimming
When you are at Kona, you can do a lot more than simple swimming in the ocean. Many guests to the area enjoy swimming with dolphins. It is a beautiful area for this activity and offers fun for all that go here. In addition, you can go snorkeling and see the array of sea life in the area including the beautiful seas turtles. Also, there is an amazing underwater coral landscape that is kissed by colorful tropical fish. It is a swimming experience unlike any other and will have you amazed. Lastly, if you are adventurous, consider renting a kayak. It is a great way to spend the day on the island and a fun activity.

Culture
While you are visiting Kona, make sure that you take in some of the culture of the area. Although Kona is a small town, it is part of the big island of Hawaii. And it offers much history and a lot of culture to all those that visit. There are a lot of historic areas to consider visiting and local art galleries that many tourists enjoy.

Sit On The Beach
In addition to the fun activities in Kona, there is nothing better to do in this area than sit on the beach and experience a Kona breeze. Many people enjoy a sip of coffee and a good book on the beach, while others simply enjoy falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean waves. Regardless of what sounds ideal to you, it will be a vacation to remember. This is life on a retreat – one to be remembered and definitely one that is not to be missed.

Are you traveling to Hawaii? There are a lot of fun places to visit. However, not all areas of the island are as educationally entertaining as the area of Kealakekua Bay. This area is an amazing bay located on the Kona coast of the island of Hawaii. Simply travel 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona and you will find an amazing area of Hawaii that was settled over 1000 years ago. It is listed is the National Register of Historic Places list for Hawaii and is considered a marine life conservation district.

History
A lot has occurred in this area over the last thousand years. A famous temple was established in this area. It was a luakini temple and it was built during Ancient times. During this time, many people went to the temple for funeral rites. Another interesting part of the history of this area is the volcanic rock. It was originally 16 ft high. It overlooked the bay and an area where the Hawaiian royalty was buried. This area is considered the forbidden cliffs of Keoua. Keoua Nui is the often considered the father of kings in the area.

In addition, there was a village name Ka’awaloa established at the north end of the bay during ancient time. Puhina O Lono Heiau was built here in addition to other royal residences. The village actually means “the distant Kava”. The name is derived from the use of the medicinal plant during religious rituals.

Meaning Of The Bay
In addition, the bay also has a unique meaning. In fact, Hawaiian language is common in the area. And Kealakekua Bay means “the god’s pathway”. It represents the focus of Makahiki celebrations to honor the god Lono. Also, the area was obviously very religious given their rituals and burials.

Visiting The Area
One of the reasons people love to visit the bay is because it is extremely beautiful. There is no area on the island of Hawaii quite like it. While you are there you will see the rich history of the area. Enjoy standing in the areas where so much history has taken place. Also, make sure that you take the time to look at all of the wood carvings in the area. They represent a large amount of history that took place throughout the years in this bay. You will be intrigued and inspired as you journey to this location. Don’t pass it up.
