Domain PR can mean two things: Google PageRank and Public Relations. These two phrases have more in common than you might first think, and this post will describe a lot about that.

Lets first talk about your website’s public relations – your domain marketing. What’s your goal, what are you doing and how does it go? Not too well? Here are some tips and ideas to create more traffic, and better marketing, for your sites.

One thing that many webmasters forget is Offline Marketing. PR Check – the important daily check. So why isn’t your Google PageRank increasing and your Alexa rank decreasing? Why is Alexa not updating? Is your site penalized by Google?

There can be so many reasons for your PageRank and Alexa not being updated, and here are some of them.

First, you have to understand that your domain PR is completely different from your Alexa ranking. The Alexa rate is usually (not always) updated daily. However, Alexa bases its traffic data on the last three months – so you usually have to wait that long before you can see any action at all in the Alexa rank.

The Google Page Rank is different though. This updates very seldom – actually, no one knows how often. Usually, the PR is updated every three months or so. But lately, that has not been the case.

Also, if your website is penalized by Google, then your pagerank and Alexa might disappear totally. So is there a good google penalised checker that can be used? Well, the best google penalized checker is Google itself. Search for your site’s domain, like this “domainprcheck.com” and check if the site is in Google’s index at all. If it is not, but was before, then you are surely penalized!

However, if you are there still, but still believe you are being penalized, then use one of the online tools. There are many many tools – use several of them, not only one. A few things comes to mind: when buying a new domain and checking out competition, there is always a need to check valid PR. PageRank might have changed in other parts of the world – so it is always good to be updated. And who knows when Google decides to update the PageRank, right?

There are many different plug-ins, but try to find one that is constantly updated and that keeps both the Google PageRank and the Alexa ranking close at hand. By installing a plug-in like that, you will instantly know the data of the site you’re visiting – and more importantly, you will be able to check PR on the PAGE you are visiting!

When buying advertisements and back links, you don’t want to be tricked! Some sell ads and links on high PR sites – but when you get the link, they’re burried in a low, or worse, NONE PageRank page! Because of the way the Google PageRank system works, a  link like that have very little, or no, effect on your website at all.

So to more easily check PR in the future – install a good plug-in for your browser. Try out a few and stick with the one you like. It’s all about taste anyway!

Having a high valid PageRank can really maximize your AdSense income. Why? Simply because you end up higher in the Google index.

So how do you target this?

Easiest way is to select one or a few carefully selected keywords. Use Google Webmaster Tools to see which keywords are best for your site and which are most expensive  on AdWords – these are generally the most income brining keywords for AdSense too. Create articles that emphasis on these (or this) keyword and publish them on networks such as Free Traffc System.

Build several blogs and submit them to the system. Then aim to optimize one of your sites, the one with highest Google PageRank, and make that one the money-site. This way, you can focus on AdSense advertising on that site, but also keep AdSense on the other blogs “just in case”. You will be able to push a lot of traffic to the money making site with improved articles and a serious blog network of your own.

The backlinks of course will improve your PR – and that’s what we all want, to get a high valid Google PageRank!

Something that most of us webmasters ask ourselves is “How do I get a high PR backlink?”.

Well – you can buy it. Google doesn’t really like bought text links/backlinks to boost your PageRank. But it is mostly dislike from Google – it’s not like they consider it so bad that they punish your site’s index listning. Actually – Google doesn’t really care, because the a bought PageRank link will most certainly be a pretty good one. Otherwise, why pay for it?

And if it is good, it means it’s a proper link on a proper page to a proper site. Hence – it’s actually something Google wants!

On eBay there are tons of auctions for PageRank links. Some are good – some are pure scams. What has recently popped up is selling cheap high PageRank blog comments. This is, at first hand, a pretty stupid practice since you never know when the comments will be removed, and the person you buy from is obviously not the blog’s owner.

But if it is a blog that doesn’t use the no-follow tag, and the blog is somewhat aimed at your theme – then why not? Especially if a PR5 link costs around five bucks.

It’s worth a try – but don’t come crying to me if it is removed. And be careful! If the blog’s owner think you’re spamming his comments, the bad-mouthing of your site might not be worth the link in the first place. And also remember that old blog-posts, that once had PR5, can become PR1 at the next PageRank change – and then your link isn’t worth anything.

PR Check is one of the most used and important daily jobs that a webmaster should do. If you’re not checking your PageRank at least weekly, and keep track of the competition, you will soon fall behind. This is just a reminder – but below are some serious tips and ideas on how to actually also increase your Google PageRank.

1. Article posting
   We all know about writing articles, posting them at article sites and hope to bring in more visitors through our higher position in the Google index because of it. This is timeconsuming work, and if you’re not hiring an author and SEO-guruto do this for you, you have a couple of late nights in front of you.A fresh way of posting articles is through the Free Traffic System.
   Free Traffic System operates through a network of member-submitted blogs, and as a member (it IS free!), you can add both blogs and articles to the system. The articles are published on up to 30 blogs (more if you pay). This creates backlinks – and even if most of the blogs are of questionable quality, a massive amount of backlinks are always nice.
2. Google Webmaster Tools
   The webmaster tools are less used than it should be. OK – you can’t tweak as much as you want to, but still, a sitemap can do wonders! If you’re using WordPress, search for a Google Sitemap plug-in.
3. Your own network
   Don’t focus on putting up only one site. Buy more domain names, put them on different hosting sollutions around the world and create a small “network”.
   Best is to buy old domains from GoDaddy’s auctionsor from eBay. Target these domains with as much content as possible, use a WordPress blog or other structure to be able to update at least once a month. Then link these two the site you’re focusing on.If you have time and money, use Freelancer to get an author to create articles for those too so you can boost traffic.
   Use Free Traffic System to get content – submit the blogs and then they will update themselves automatically.

Everyone is chasing the most searched-for keywords, trying to optimize their sites for these and earn more and more money based on these specific words. But these keywords have millions of competitors. You will have to work day and night – every day – to be able to secure the best ones. It might be worth it – but what if there is some other way?

What if you could create YOUR OWN keywords? Wouldn’t that be totally awesome?

Well – it IS possible. Here, I will show you how it is done and how it has been done, with a cool example from a fresh and great game company.

In December 2009 a company set out to publish their first (of many) card game. They wanted a unique name on the unique rule system. This is how they did it, and how you can do it too:

1. Search Google for made up names. The company searched for many different names and settled with “xemytica”. The reason for this is:
Google showed 0 – ZERO – results! That means that no one else was using the made up word, and you would be completely alone with it.

2. The domain name XEMYTICA.COM was registered. Now the process started. First the company added the URL to Google, but then also to other indexes, as Bing, Altavista, Yahoo, etc.

3. Of course the meta-tags and all other basic SEO was taken care of on the site itself. This is a crucial step to build your new brand name.

4. Next came the most important thing: real SEO magic. First, the game was published on the website. The website’s URL and info was then added to forums and sent to game-info websites to get backlinks. If you are preparing a blog that will talk about a specific subject, then this isn’t for you – but if you are creating a new web-video-series, a new product or something else that you can name whatever you want – then great, read on!

Find forums and websites that have information on the type of product you’re doing. Get links from them.

5. Write a few articles. This is actually very important. Write a few articles that describe the product or – in the case with Xemytica – describe how to play the game. Submit these to article websites. It’s a pain staking process, but it is worth to spend a few days on this. If you write 2-3 articles and send to around 30-40 article websites, you will get a lot of backlinks that is enough to get your initial success.

This is how Xemytica did. On December 12, 2009, there was 0 – ZERO – hits on Google. Two weeks later: 5,000 hits!
And each hit lead to the Xemytica website, one way or the other.

More SEO and a few years later, the website is now PR2, a nice stream of gaming uniques per month and over 14,000 (!) hits on Google.

Creating your OWN keyword works very good. Not only do you create something that you can argue is your own brandname (the TM-sign should be used on your site to mark that you claim the TradeMark) – it is also something that can work very well to create a steady stream of traffic.

It is not for everybody – but it is certainly a fun experience to see a word that didn’t exist create thousands of hits on Google just after a few weeks of work.
