Short for the term “web log” a blog is a journal, usually personal in nature, which consists of many separate entries grouped together in a kind of format or organization which usually simulates a timeline.

Blogging has now become not only a pastime for teens, but a viable business model from which affiliate marketing and many other types of business models can be formed.

The best blogs are detailed and specific

Most blogs are quite specific in nature, providing a great deal of detail about one subject. That subject can very well be the person who is writing the blog, who may actually be blogging about their personal lives. However, most blogs are actually based around a particular subject, and most of the best blogs are quite detailed and specific, providing its audience with a great deal of firsthand information that they often can not find anywhere else.

Although most blogging is text based, there are many types of blogs that are actually video based (known as a vlog), art or photo based, music based (an mp3 blog), or audio based (known as podcasting).

Is blogging popular nowdays?

Blogging is also quite popular, as there are more than 156 million blogs currently in existence.

If you count microblogging, which consists of blogging in very small posts (usually 3 lines or less), then that number goes even higher. The number of blog posts that are microblogs are actually impossible to count as yet, because many people include comments on articles and in social media as a microblog, as well as bona fide microblogging.

Although most blogs are based around the format of a personal diary, there are many blogs which are also simply functions of a brand management program for a corporation. These blogs usually take the form of a website more than a timeline.

Blog actally came up as a joke

The actual term “blogs” was actually coined by Peter Merholz, who as a joke, broke the word “weblog” up on his blog. However much he meant it to be a joke, the term actually caught on and was popularized wtih Evan Williams at Pyra Labs. Blogs are almost as old as the Internet, with many blogs starting with the old bulletin boards like Usenet and CompuServe and Bulletin Board Systems.

The current blogs have evolved from the online diary that was quite popular around the 1990s with the AOL IM and chatroom culture. The first true commercially viable large hub for blogs was LiveJournal, which started in 1999.

Great way to create a name for your business

Blogs actually have a great deal of political impact these days, with many professional bloggers regularly made reference to in the mainstream media, and many of the top bloggers from the top blogs even called on to be regular guests in the rotation of talk show based programs.

Blogs are also a great way to create a name for a brand new business. There are many businessmen and women, even teens, who have turned their ability to make people pay attention to their blogs into a viable business model that brings them hundreds of thousands of dollars per year

What do you think about blogging? Are you having a blog for your business, fun or something else. Share your experiences and leave a comment below.

If you plan to search for the right hosting provider for your website, remember that there is more to the process than settling for the cheapest package. Even when prices are comparable, the services web hosts offer their clients can vary widely, and you should take the time to study each offer carefully and decide which one best meets your needs. Here are some points to consider:

Finding the right web host provider

1. Disc space

Today, even the least expensive web hosting package will include a good amount of disk space for your site, and you should look for at least a gigabyte of disk space for your present and future needs. As a rule, web hosting providers offer their subscribers many gigabytes, and the monthly fees are minimal.

2. Bandwidth

Bandwidth signifies the amount of data that you will be able to send and receive, as specified in your web hosting agreement. Most providers will give you a good supply of band with on a monthly basis, and according to the traffic you website attracts, the more your bandwidth will increase.

If you come close to reaching your monthly limit, that will be an indication that you should increase your bandwidth. Ideally, you should look for a good starting bandwidth to avoid problems, and most reliable providers offer bandwidth ranging from 250 gigabytes to more that a terabyte for monthly traffic.

3. Access to at least one database

Whether you need a Microsoft SQL or MySQL database, be certain that the plan you chose will give you access to it. Even if that isn’t an issue at this time, you will probably need it later on, and your provider should offer access to at least one database in their basic package.

You will need a database to complete a wide range of activities, including storing your company’s proprietary information or creating storage for your blog add-ons, such Joomla or WordPress. Otherwise, it will be impossible to make such features work properly.

4. Linux or Windows server?

Although a beginning web hosting package from your provider may offer Linux because it costs less to run, note that Linux is also a fast operating system that you can count on. Even if you create the pages for your website on a Windows PC, you will not encounter any problems by hosting them on a Linux server.

Something else you should look for

Along with searching to find a host provider that offers the features you need and want, be certain that the one you choose has been operating for some time and is well-known for 99% server “up time,” is reliable, has a large subscriber base that is increasing, and provides excellent customer service. By doing this, you can ensure that you will accomplish what you set out to do when you created your website.

What makes a good web hosting provider for you? As always I would love to hear your good and bad experiences and don’t forget to leave a comment below.

Why should I care? It is not challenging to understand why many intelligent, savvy, and business minded people eventually find themselves analyzing different effective methods of generating an income online. The Internet has truly provided even an average individual with access to some of the most cutting edge, efficient, and passive modes of making money in the world today. Credited solely to the abundant and infinite virtual online environment, quite literally, anyone can fully expect to start using the Internet to make money.

If you pay attention at all to the news and information regarding business and the economy, you have most likely heard about the very lucrative business of purchasing and selling domains. This is a very popular and logical place to start, simply because the initial investment required to buy a domain is very minimal by today’s standards. You truly can get started in this business for under 10 dollars. Being that domains have sold for millions, the potential profit margin alone has a tendency to speak for itself.

How to determine the value of a domain?

There are no hard and fast rules regarding the precise value of a domain. Instead, the value of a domain is determined by a number of domain characteristics, if you will. Some of the factors that do weight heavily on the monetary value of a domain include:

the length of the domain,

how easy it is to remember and spell,

and how popular are the keywords contained in the URL.

In general, substituting numbers for words in the domain or using a .net, .biz instead of a .com URL decreases the ultimate price of that domain.

A domain with a well known website and established traffic to the site will have a much higher value in comparison to simply a URL. Linkbacks from credible websites to a domain increase the value of that URL, often times exponentially. Online experts overwhelmingly agree that adding a website to a domain will only increase that URL price.

However, it is important to keep in mind that appraising a domain with a website and established traffic, does make the complex mathematical process quite a bit more involved. Most people turn to professional domain appraisers once the website is established and the traffic is flowing.

Finding domain appraisers

Completing a simple online search with any of the major search engines will quickly let you know that there are a number of companies claiming to provide you with an appraisal for your domain.

However, it is important to keep in mind that you are trying to find the most unbiased, accurate, and reputable company to provide you with the URL appraisal. Unfortunately, the anonymous nature of the online environment can make this task more time involved than you may initially expect.

Reputable domain appraisals

Sedo.com utilizes a very unbiased and analytical domain appraisal system, which is heavily rooted in academic knowledge and scientific research. This company has a very individualized approach to providing you with the value of your domain. After having your domain appraised with Sedo.com, you will not only walk away with a precise monetary value in mind, but you will also posses a complete and thorough understanding of exactly why your domain was appraised at that particular value.

What is your opinion about domain appraising? What kind of services you use to value your domains? Share your experiences and leave a comment below.

All over America, “Buy Locally” campaigns are springing up, trying to convince customers to buy and use local products and services first. But there is really nothing more “local” than your customers home computers, so capitalize on that fact and start gearing your sales incentives and advertisements toward customers who are regular internet users.

One of the best ways to attract local — and also national — attention on the internet is to maintain a “blog” that both describes and praises your company’s products and services. “But don’t I have to hire expensive IT geeks and fork out a whole bunch of cash for computer equipment first?” you might ask. Not at all. These days, blogs are really not all that hard to maintain.

For instance, currently there are several excellent online blogging platforms that actually format and publish your blog for you. All you have to do is supply content.

Both www.blogger.com and www.wordpress.com offer free blogs, publishing tools and blogging services to novice bloggers. All you have to do is plug in some photos, words and links and you’re done.

“But what kind of words should I write?” you might ask next. That’s up to you — and remember one fact: You yourself are the world’s best expert on whatever it is that your company does or sells. You yourself are most excited about your product, right? Otherwise you probably wouldn’t even be in the business. So Just write about the parts of your business that excite you the most.

“But what about photos?” Everyone has a digital camera these days. Just go out and take some candid shots — then use your blogging platform to grab photos off your computer and insert them seamlessly into your blog.

Now that your blog is up and running, what next? Next you sit down and decide what kind of readers and customers you want to attract — and then figure out how to attract them. The best way to attract attention is to make sure that your blog-publishing site has a link to a web crawler that will periodically go through your blog and register its contents with various search engines such as Google, Bing or Yahoo search. This way, your customers can easily find you when they type in key words. Then do some research regarding which key words your customers might type into a search engine and make sure that those key words appear in your text.

Another way to make sure that customers find you is to pay for services that automatically put your blog near the top of any keyword search related to your business.

But the bottom line regarding the advantages of having a blog for your business is that your blog will offer possible customers a wealth of vital information regarding the product or service they seek — thus encouraging them to buy from you instead of from somebody else.
