In late 2008 The Rub's Cosmo Baker made this so deserved tribute mix to Hip Hop great Pete Rock.

Listening to PR's production I don't see why "The Soul Brother" doesn't receive as much adulation Dilla gets. Pete Rock is the foundation Dilla built his sound on. Younger heads need to recognize.

Although I'm not Buddhist and diasgree with many of it's philosophical teachings I have learned about from Buddhist philosophy and it has increased my spirituality. Learning and understanding other faith traditions expands your thought and forces you to clarify where you stand on issues. You may not always agree but examing other faiths will encourage one to think about things you probably wouldn't thought about before. In that spirit this short book on Ch'an (Zen) is nice jump start for those not aware of Zen Buddhist thought.

Ch’an or Zen is the outcome of meditation. There are two “right” or “highest” purposes of Ch’an. The first purpose is to achieve “Dhyana.” Dhyana is a combination of relaxation, concentration and calmness or tranquility. The second purpose is, using your very composed and tranquil mind, to observe clearly all the dharmas or phenomena externally and internally. As an outcome of Dhyana, you will be able to observe these phenomena very clearly because your “mental mirror” is very clear, for there are no more disturbances to veil it. Out of these observations will come Transcendental Wisdom, which in Sanskrit is called “Prajna.”

I posted this mix last year but the link went and a request was made for reup so I decided repost this classic mix by The Beat Junkies president Melo D. Thanks to SO.U.L & Rob for the links.

The CD is broken down into tracks with no real purpose other than to have titles really. It is just a mix CD, but being that it is a Beat Junkie release, the quality is superior to many. It features guests Babu and J Rocc, Curse and Sparky Arbuckle but mostly is Melo D's composition. Definitely a great bit of turntablism for the collectors out there.

I saw this up on Rekord on Wheelz and the Mix Set awhile back but totally forgot to a post it on my blog. Can you believe that? Forgetting a Rhettmatic mix. A little known Rhet mix at that!

Anyway this is more of collection then a mix of mostly Visionaries songs from their first album "Galleries" and a couple tunes from Shapeshifters and Blak Forest. Based upon the fact it contains "Peace Mic", which is off the Visionaries second album released in 1999 I would say this mix was made early 1999 or late 1998.

Underground and classic Hip Hop tunes mashed together in this mix by Spain's T Kut. Although the verse and flow doesn't exactly go together with the beat hearing Rakaa's voice over Down With The King instrumental was gold to ears. Is there any beat Rakaa's voice doesn't sound nice on?

Hamza 21 - The Kickback Vol 1

Now this is a repost of a mix I posted back in March but somehow disappeared from my site and yes volume 2 (40% finished) & 3 (90% finished) is on it's way.

This right here took about 8 months to complete and even now I'm still not happy with it. However it's time to let it go and move on to something else. There are still some mistakes in this mix but I'm over this project and moving on to vol 2.

This mix started off as a short 20 minute mix (MJ to Everlast as well as Mya & Jon B) but my computer crashed and I lost all my files.When I got my computer up and running again I moved on to another short mix (Cat Stevens to Flyleaf). After finishing that short mix I decided to make it a little longer and I kept adding songs from R&B and Pop that I liked to that mix. After finishing all of that I figured WTF. So I rerecorded my first mix and used it as my intro of this final project.

One thing to note 90% of the songs are mp3's not vinyl records and I don't have any DVS or any other computer djing program. I beatmatched using Audacity and unlike an old school analog 4 track digital recording is pretty unforgiving. Many things that would be masked by the sound of analog is not present with digital software. In other words digital recording sucks. Anyway I hope you like the mix.
