We’ve moved!
Well our blog has moved.

I will no longer be posting from this account but you can find us over on our new little space in the web and let me tell ya Heather from Life Made Lovely did a fantastic job!

I couldn’t be more in love with the blog design she’s created for us. I had such a rough experience with my last blog designer. Working with Heather was a breath of fresh air and I can’t sing her praises enough!

This blog account will remain live and I may jump on just 1 more time to remind you to come find us over on our new blog but for the most part new content will be on our new site HangingwiththeHuies.com.

Why the Move?

I already had a Wordpress account and a hosted site that I wasn’t using for my photography business. Blogger has been great for the last 7 years buuuuuut……… YES I’ve had this blog for 7 years, can you believe it!?! I wanted more. I more control of my site, better photo display, a space that was more user friendly so it’s easier for me to connect with you, and a way to reach more views. Wordpress could offer me all of this. It was something I’ve been thinking on for the last 2 years. Heather helped guide me in making that jump!

- We’ll also be doing our annual Valentines Box Swap (this is year number 4) All details about this will be available soon on our new site.

- Besides all the fun stuff coming up the beginning of the year I’ll be keeping up with our weekly Wednesday post so you’ll get some type of new content (blog post or vlog) from me each and every Wednesday. While this move was going on I’ve been doing our weekly blog post live via Periscope which is really be fun!

-My writing style and the type of post will be the same! Full of randomness and chats about things from photography, motherhood, kiddos, DIYs, health and fitness, and of course our trips to the mountains. Same Kendra just a new pretty site.

-I’ve decided to keep this account open so “Domestic Princess in Training” will still be here, I just wont. All previous post from this account have been moved over to our new space so if you’re looking for something you read here you can find it over on the blog as well!

If our Etsy store is all new to you and you’re wondering what the what I’m talking about I thought I would also take today to share a little about how we got started and why DROOLZIES rocks!

The one that started it all

How We Came To Be: When Weston was itty bitty he cut his 1st teeth right at 4 months. Yep an early teether and man oh mighty was he a major drool bucket. I was constantly wiping drool from his chin and saying “Oh buddy you have droolzies” was something I said at least 20 times a day and shirts were changed throughout the day almost as much. I would put him in the typical bibs which were ok but I just hated the way they looked and they didn’t do the job. The ones that worked-ish had a plastic lining which are not breathable and many would not absorb drool due to that same plastic material that kept it from leaking through onto his clothing. Enter a mama with a need…….

I wanted something cute yet functional. Something that helped keep his clothing dry but also had a breathable material. Something that he would be comfortable wearing.

I reached out to my mother-in-law who was a professional seamstress and DROOLZIES was born.

In the beginning they were just something my mother-in-law made for Weston to wear but after tons of interest from friends, family and even strangers on the street we decided to open a little shop on Instagram.

I was blown away with how much support and love our little Instagram page received. I had a hard time keeping up with sales and as we grew found it more challenging to streamline the ordering process via Instagram so 2 years ago we opened our Etsy shop!

And here we are!

My mother-in-law is the brains behind the sewing machine and y’all she rocks in the quality department! I run the design, order fulfillment, and social media side of the buisness. Every now and then my father-in-law steps in to help and Kent (my hubby) is my right hand IT man. We’re the definition of a small family run business.

Why DROOLZIES Rocks:

Our bandana bibs are designed to grow with your baby and have 2 snap options. My boys started wearing their DROOLZIES when they were 2 months old and Weston wore his same DROOLZIES up until he was 1.5. I tried one on him just for fun the other day (he’s currently 2) and it still fits!

DROOLZIES has a flannel backing. This keeps the drool from soaking through onto your child's clothing BUT and this was a big one for me it’s still breathable…..not like that plastic lined bibs.

Quality that last! Weston always and I mean always had a DROOLZIES on during his teething years. He was such a drool bucket that I had to keep one on him or take 10 changes of clothing when me when we left the house. We washed and wore and washed and wore his DROOLZIES like crazy and those very same DROOLZIES are now being worn by my 2nd son.

We try our best to ship quickly! I know what it’s like to by something from an Esty vendor and wait weeks I’ve even waited months for an item to arrive. I don’t want to do that to you! If it’s in our store it’s made and ready to ship!

Many of our customers are return customers! I love seeing that little green star (noting that a customer is a repeat buyer) on an invoice! That means we’re holing up our end of the deal!

We keep our store stocked and add new prints often! We currently have 40 different prints in our store and sitting next to me as I type are 12 new prints waiting to be photographed and added to our shop!

Potty Training Diaries: I Ate my lunch on the bathroom floor

It’s the day before Thanksgiving
Everyone is busy preparing for the big meal…..
getting ready for company……
grocery shopping…..

No us!

For the last few years we’ve taken my in-laws out to eat on Thanksgiving day.
No dirty dishes to clean.
No long grocery lines to wait in.
No traveling.

We actually really enjoy this unintentional tradition.

So knowing that most are busy preparing for Thanksgiving with no time to read my little ol’ blog I decided that I wouldn’t put a post up for our weekly Wednesday post.

Buuuuuut here I am.

In the wee hours of the morning alone with my coffee cup sitting in front of my computer with really not a lot to say which is usually when things get all rambly and weird.

That can kind of be fun sometimes though, no?

So for those who happen to be here reading……

here’s your mini dose of ramble.

For the Frozen lovers with a sense of humor.

Yesterday I ate my lunch on the bathroom floor while waiting for Weston to poop.

It was unsuccessful and I figured as much as he always has to go “poops” right at nap or bed time aka he’s trying to pull one over on his folks.

Are you done trying buddy?
“Nope I still trying. Can you sit witd me riiiiight here (pointing to the floor by the toilet)” said in the sweetest voice you’ve ever heard.

“But mama’s hungry. I’m going to eat some lunch while you keep trying. I’ll be right here (pointing to the kitchen)”
It was 2:30 and all I had eaten for the day was a protein bar.

“Can you eat your lunch in here witd me?” Again pointing to a tiny space on the floor next to the toilet.

Come on how can you say no to that?

So he wins.
A later nap time and a hungry mama singing songs about pop while she eats her lunch next to the potty hoping for poop to actually happen.

It definitely wasn’t a moment I‘m proud of.

So if you too are eating lunch out on Thanksgiving and see a lady sitting on the floor in the bathroom with a plate in her lap signing songs about poop and pee feel free to pop your head under the door and say hi.

I’d love the company and I’d love it even more if sang some potty songs with us.

Cabin Tour–Broken Bow, Oklahoma

She’s A Beauty -Our Trip to Broken Bow Oklahoma

Hi friends!
I’m back for our weekly Wednesday post.
This week I’m taking you on a little mini trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Long time readers know that we typically head to the Ozark mountains in the fall. The views are breath taking ( I 100% recommend a fall trip to the Ozarks if you can swing it) BUT since we took at 14hr road trip to CO a few months back (plan on blogging about that soon) and Carson wasn’t loving his time in the car we thought we would scale back this year.

Kent suggested Broken Bow and couple weeks later we were cabin side in amongst the trees.

My most favorite place to be!

Broken Bow is a 3 hr drive from Dallas.

Honestly I wasn’t expecting much in the view department since it’s so close to home but y’all I was shocked at how stunning it was.

The trees…..
The lakes……
The streams that run along beautiful hiking trails.
Even the guys fly fishing were a sight. Anyone else think fly fishing it pretty? Maybe I’m the only weirdo.

Ugh it’s stunning and since it’s only 3 hours from us I’m thinking of reasons to go back……asap!
A girls weekend?
Mama needs a break weekend?
Umm a weekend of hiking?
Whatever the case I would be tickled to go back!

It was a great trip short but lovely.
We sat around a warm fire and looked up at the stars.
We fished.
We hiked,
Weston fell in love with the playground on the cabin’s property.
I drank yummy coffee from a quaint coffee shop (hello horchata latte).

We took a few scenic drives while the boys napped in their cars seats.
Kent and I even went on a little fishing/coffee date.

It was good for the soul these trips usually are.

I tried to lug my camera around as much as possible.
You know my whole 2015 resolution to “Put the Phone Down and Pick That Camera Up”
Yep still working on it!
And as usual I’m so happy I did.

This one of Kent and Carson……melt! I told y’all I’m a sucker for photo of my hubby loving on our babies.

Weston is my little adventure seeker which fills my heart with crazy joy.
I hope we’re hiking trails together for many many more years. When we it was time to go home I asked him if he was ready to go back to TX “No mama I want to go to Colorado!” That’s my boy!

Oh my sweet sweet chubby Carsie Bear how I love baby wearing you!
I was thinking about getting a Tula baby carrier for him when I was pregnant. They’re supposed to be amazing but I couldn’t do it. I’m too attached to my Ergo. Again is that weird? Probably. But I can’t help but to think about all the trails and trips we did with Weston in this very same Ergo and now Carson is loving it. Sorry Tula I’m sure you’re just at amazing as everyone says you are but me and my Ergo have history so it’s here to stay! I have the same attachment to my K’Tan. #WearAllTheBabies

Oh my sweet kind Mother-in-Law! When we told her about our trip she asked if she could join us. I was honestly excited. I don’t take for granted how rare that is. I’m so very blessed to have such awesome in-laws!

During our hike she spotted what she called “The Perfect Walking Stick” look it even has a handle. She smoothed it down on some of the surrounding trees and brought it along for the rest of our hike. It even came back to TX with us!

The fishing pole was a gift from my dad aka Papa. My dad’s most favorite thing to do is fish so I know he’s going to love this one.

He doesn’t read the blog so I can share a little secret with y’all……I’ll be including this shot in our family calendar this year. One of my dad’s most loved and requested Christmas gifts.

PS…. I’ve learned to start using phrases like “hopefully” “I plan to” and “if everything goes according to planned” when making promises. With my littles I’ve got to take it day by day because y’all I never know what they’re going to throw at me . Like a couple nights ago when I had gotten up with Carson in the middle of the night and Weston who never wakes up started crying. I was running room to room trying to sooth them. Or this week when we had to wake them up at 3 am to take cover from a possible tornado that was headed directly towards our house. Like the weather man pretty much circled our home on the map and said “It’s headed here” scary! Anyway the boys and life in general keep me on my toes.

PPS….My new blog design is about to start! I’ll soon be blogging from WordPress and using ProPhoto aka the photo quality will be a million times better than what you’ve been seeing here. Blog Spot sucks at preserving the integrity of your photos which drives me nuts. Seeing these images on my desktop verses what you see here is night and day! This photographer is excited! Not only for better photo quality but all the other lovely things that will be coming along with this new jump!

WHEN YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR YOURSELF

I worked out this morning.
I know, I know……annnnnd so what?

Lots of people exercise every day.
People that are busier than me.
People that live harder lives than me.
People that face more challenges than me.

But we each have our own journey and with that comes our struggles and triumphs.

Today in my mind was a triumph!

We got back into town from a trip yesterday
(I’ll be blogging more on that later but take a peek at our IG until then to see what we were up to)
Our bags are still packed.
The house is a mess.
I got up with Carson at 3:30 am.
My alarm for the gym went off at 4:15 am.
I didn’t have my gym clothes ready.
I couldn’t find my tooth brush, deodorant,clean socks.
Everything is thrown into a duffle bag but I’m not sure which one.

I tried to talk myself out of going to the gym at least 4 times within 5 min.

”You just got back from a trip. It’s okay to take a day to recoup.”
”You’re tried from getting up with Carson go back to bed!”
“Just take the boys for a walk later.”
and the worst one……..
”You’re not even seeing results yet. Why are you pushing yourself so hard?”

These are actual thoughts that went through my head as I was trying to find socks, shoes, my tooth brush.

Each time one popped in my head I said the word “FIGHT!”

I know it sounds silly and you may be laughing at me right now but that’s ok.
Focusing on that one word alone each time I started to talk negative to myself got me to the gym.

FIGHT
FIGHT
FIGHT

I made it to my car and was all set to back out of our house.
I clicked our gate button to open the gate and nothing.
It didn’t open or budge.

Without that gate opening I can’t get my car out of our driveway.

“See just go back inside and get in bed. This is a sign that you shouldn’t go to the gym today.”

FIGHT

I got out of my car and figured out how to put the gate in manual mode so I could manually push it open.

FIGHT

I made it to the gym.
I increased my weight amount today and I continued to push myself throughout my entire workout.

At 6:30am I walked out of the gym sweaty and shaky but most importantly feeling good, reallll good!

It’s never easy this whole weight loss thing.
It wasn’t when I did it the 1st ground around and it sure isn’t this time.

I know the fight that you need to put into this journey.
The fight that you need to see the results.
The fight that you need to be your own cheerleader.
The fight that you need to overcome the struggles.

It’s the fight that gets you to that place…..whatever it is as “That Place” is different for everyone.

So I’m sharing this with you today in hopes that wherever you are……
whatever walk you’re on……
whatever your goals are……

FIGHT

FIGHT for YOU because no matter how much others love us and support us it’s YOU that has to fight.
YOU that needs to overcome the negative talk and challenges.
YOU that needs to push.
YOU that has the FIGHT that will help you succeeded.

THE HUIE BOYS DO HALLOWEEN

The night before Halloween we had a big family PJ party in our bed.
Weston and Kent noshed on popcorn while watching Tangled.
I sat next to them gluing rhinestones on Carsie Bear’s Elvis costume, and securing Weston’s tools to his tool belt.

Nothing fancy or extra special but stepping back and taking in that very mundane moment hit my mama heart hard.

I was right were I wanted to be.

It was the type of moment I dreamed of before becoming a mama.

Since having babies little random moments like this one creep up when I lest expect them and take my mama heart for a ride. I start thinking about how very blessed and grateful I am. How I’ve dreamed of being in this very same season that I’m in right now since I was a kid and here I am making Halloween costumes for the 2 little boys I was born to mother.

Yes it’s true even rhinestone and plastic toy tools can make a mama get sentimental and I’m proof my friends.

Seeing the boys in their Halloween costumes…..don’t even get me started!

Yes Halloween is all about fun and games BUT in my mind it’s a day that littles dress up and melt their parent’s hearts. Umm and I don’t only melt for my boys I melt when I see your kiddos in costume too.

I mean seriously it’s just precious beyond words. Am I right?

We started our Halloween festivities off with a trip to the city square for a Halloween festival. It was a massive bust. Tons of people with long loooooong (I’m talking 70 pulse deep) lines of people waiting to trick-or-treat in the square stores.

UMMM NOPE!

We bumped into one of our friends who sweetly gave Weston a piece if their daughter’s candy and called it a day.

On the positive I got this super cute photo of Kent and Weston as we were leaving the festival.

SIDE NOTE: Pardon the gross factor but I think Kent looks so handsome when he had his dad hat on. My most favorite photos of him are one where he’s interacting with the boys.

Back on track!

I knew a good spot close by where I could snap a few cute photos of the boys in their Halloween costumes sans crazy crowds so we gathered the troops and headed that way.

Oh and my mom and her boyfriend came along to see the boys in their Halloween costumes so that was special.

These photos are another positive out of the whole poopy festival hoopla. They make my heart go pitter patter and I obviously had a hard time narrowing down which ones I wanted to share with you.

Oh yes there are more but these are my most favorite!

Ugh and this one of Carson aka Elvis…..I just cant!

I’ve been trying for 6 months to get a decent photo of them together and this is about as good as it gets. Weston pouting and Carson looking just as dreamy as ever but it’s real life so I’ll take it!

Trick-or-treating at Auntie Marsha’s house! I’m so very grateful that one of my best buddies lives across the street from me. Kind of special that Weston’s 1st house to trick-or-treat at was our hers.

And a quick little vlog of the boys in action. Weston’s sweet little voice when he says “Happy Halloween” melts me. Who and I kidding the cuteness factor of this holiday in general sent my sentimental mama heart into overdrive!

THE HUIES HIT THE PUMPKIN PATCH

I did a little hunting this year and found my dream pumpkin patch! Well as close as I’m going to get to it in the DFW area.

Our typical pumpkin patches are flat plots of land with pumpkins thrown on it. No trees, no character, just pumpkins and a few attractions like petting zoo and such. They’re cute and serve a purpose but I’ve always hoped to find a sweet little patch nestled in a forest with lots of character. A place where the kids could run and explore….enter Blasé Family Farms

Nope not sponsored by them but I was so in love with this sweet little patch I had to share it with my fellow DFW readers. I honestly wanted to keep it my little secret because it just so special and surprisingly not swamped with people but sharing is caring my friends.

If you’re in the area I definitely recommend making a trip out. They have goats, sheep, and a long horn you can feed, Lots of land for the littles to explore, a tractor pulled hay ride that takes you on a tour of their property, a tractor train ride (super cute), lots of places set up for photos, picnic tables, and beautiful tall trees that not only add that fall charm that we all love but provide shade which is great because as you can see by looking at some of the outfits people are wearing good ole’ TX likes to hold onto summer weather for as long as possible. We got there when they opened at 10 and stayed until after 1pm. We took our time enjoying the farm and let Weston explore to his heart’s content. It was all around a beautiful day. We’ll definitely be going back in the spring to pick blueberries and again in the fall!

These 2 have been buddies since they were in our bellies. We have so many precious photos of them together but my favorites are always the ones of Weston giving Lily some love and Lily giving him the cold shoulder…..they crack me up!

Cookies Crafts & PJs

Weston was supposed to have a small Halloween party last Friday but a nasty cold hit our family. It started with Kent, moved onto Weston, then me. Thank goodness Carson didn’t get it!

We were all on the mend by the time of the Halloween party but I thought it would be best to reschedule juuuuust to be safe. Do you remember when THIS happened? Yep no fun! Same group of friends are getting together for the Halloween party. We haven’t all been together since that whole fiasco and there was no way I was going to be the cause of outbreak round 2.

I made the mistake of getting Weston excited about his Halloween party. Once you tell that kid he’s going to have a play date or do something extra special he gets heart broken if it falls through. I still wanted the day to be fun so I drew a little invitation and invited him to a mama son Halloween party!

We stayed in our PJs all day (ok this was really more for my benefit than his and my PJs were more sweaty gym clothes), read gobs of Halloween books, cranked up his “Truck Song’s” CD, did an easy Halloween craft aka monster stickers and construction paper, and decorated pumpkin cookies!

It’s wasn’t anything fancy but sometimes those simple random activities that you throw together are the best ones!

Being a parent is fun but being a parent during the holidays kicks the fun factor up a notch! Weston’s at the prefect age to really get into all things festive and I’m loving every second of it!

IIFYM–Getting Started

For those of you who are saying “What the Whaaaaaaat is she talking about” you may want to check out THIS post where I tell you all about my new fitness journey with If It Fits Your Macros. After you do that visit Skinny Meg’s blog. Megan has been doing this way longer than I have and knows what’s up! Her blog if full of helpful IIFYM info!

Let me tell ya how today’s blog post is going to play out because it has a lot going have a lot going on……

I want to share a few things that I’ve enjoyed since starting this eating plan. I received several emails from peeps with great question about the program. Some of those questions were asked often so I thought I would answer them here as well. Annnnd I have some “before” photos for ya.

Let’s jump in……

Things I found helpful my 1st week of counting macros

1. My Fitness Pal Premium- I upgraded to the premium version and am so happy I did. It’s made tracking somewhat easier and I love all the graphs. It’s great for visual people. There’s a hack that’s floating around out there if you don’t want to pay for the upgrade. Who does, right? I couldn’t figure it out though so I got frustrated and just paid for it. Just search “My Fitness Pall Hack” and you should be able to find it.

2. YouTube & Pinterest – I’m going to lump these 2 together because I used them the same way. I did a little hunting on these two platforms for all the help and tips I could find. Loved watching IIFYM grocery hauls on YouTube for food ideas. Also found a few people that talk about setting up MFP to make it more Macro friendly. Great place to start your IIFYM research. (I’ll include links to some of these things below.

3. Periscope – Ahhh I can’t say enough great things about this beautiful little IIFYM community that’s forming on Periscope! I LOVE chatting with everyone and find it so inspiring and helpful. The other day I did a roll call during one of my scopes and asked people to share how much they wanted to lose. It was pretty awesome see all the numbers roll in. Yes they were just numbers but behind each number was a person working towards reach their own personal goal. I found it so inspiring! If you have the Periscope app you can find me under Kendra_Huie. Also look up Skinny Meg. Her scopes are super informative!

4. Food Scale – Because well that’s your main tool during this program! I picked mine up at Target for $18 (I think) but you can find them at several places and of course on Amazon. What can’t you buy on Amazon, right? After buying mine Skinny Meg mentioned that you should try to find one that not only weighs ounces & grams but also milliliters. You can always convert to milliliters but if you’re able to find a scale that does it for you it would just make your IIFYM world just a tad bit easier.

5. Pen and Paper – Keep it somewhere handy! There were several times I either didn’t have time to enter my macros into MFP or I couldn’t find my phone. If you have a pen and paper handy jot down your macros and enter them in when you can. No excuses!

6. Calculator – I waited way too long to pick one up. A calculator is a must when figuring out serving sizes. Before I got one I was going into MFP then exiting to use the calculator on my phone then back into MFP to track my food. Nope! Make it easy on yourself and pick up a cheap calculator if you don’t already own one.

FAQs

I’ve received a few emails from people considering starting IIFYM. I always feel the need to start all my replies with “This is all new to me”. I don’t want to dish out advice about a program when I am newer than a newbie ya know buuuut I’m happy to share what I have learned so far. There were the questions that were most commonly asked in the emails I’ve received.

Did you feel full? Yes yes yes! Y’all since starting IIFYM I am never hungry and have a hard time making sure I get in all my calories. Now keep in mind I’m 5 9’ and have 60lbs to lose so my macros will be higher than someone that has less to lose but all around a little weight to lose or a lot the program is all about turning our bodies into calorie burning machines aka eat all the food burn all the food!

I’m nervous about starting. Why did you decided to jump in? I was nervous too so much so that I sat back and watched the program for months before deciding to jump in. I kept telling myself that I would keep researching and learn more about counting macros before starting. What ended up happening is months went by I wasn’t any more educated about counting macros and it all still kind of made my head swim. I knew that if I just didn’t jump in and learn as I went along it wasn’t going to happen. I made a mini goal to follow the program for a month then go from there. I knew I was mentally in a place where I was ready to start tackling this baby weight aka I have some fight in me. No matter what program you decide to start IIFYM, Weight Watchers, Cleaning eating, Paleo, whatever…..there is ALWAYS that “Growing Pain” phase. Things are new and you have to kind of dive in to figure it out. I’m rounding out my 2nd week and things are much better than they were last week but I would say that I’m still in that “Growing Pain” phase and that’s ok! It’s all about that fight! No this isn’t easy clean eating isn’t easy either. The question isn’t “Do you think I can do it?” but ask yourself “Do I want it bad enough to fight for it?” “It” being whatever diet regiment you decide is best for you. You have to want it bad enough to tackle the “Growing Pains”!

Has it been hard? I could sugar coat this for you but that wouldn’t do you any good so the honest truth….YES it has been hard. I had no idea what I was doing when 1st started. I had to figure things out on my own. The flip side of that is I can also honestly say only 13 days it’s clicking more and more each day. I still have things to learn but it’s definitely not as challenging as it was that 1st week. I entered my 1st recipe in MFP last night. It actually wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be but I couldn’t figure out how to enter my portion. See still learning! You just have to give yourself grace as you’re figure it all out.

Who did you macros? Elizabeth aka Poppy Locks (look at the more section then counting macros on her site if you would like to reach out to her about doing your macros). I was on the fence about hiring a coach. I figured it was going to be expensive and I needed to make sure this was what I wanted to do 1st before putting more $ into it. Well Most coaches will calculate your macros for around $30-$35. I decided I didn’t want to waste 2 weeks not knowing if I was where I should be macro wise so I reached out to Elizabeth. She was very helpful and I recommend having a coach help you out if you’re able to swing the fee.

What blogs/recourses have you found helpful? As I touched on above in the tools I found helpful section did a lot of hunting on Pinterest and YouTube. There are TONS of IIFYM’ers out there kindly sharing their knowledge. I will include a few links to blogs and YouTube videos I found helpful below.

I tried the yogurt which is pretty popular with macro counters but it wasn’t my jam; super sweet and taste artificial. Wasn’t a fan of the protein bars she recommended either. They’re growing on me but I don’t love them. I also didn’t like the baby bell cheese (the ones in the blue wrapper) yuck! I did however like the bread she recommended. I’ve been checking macros on bread since starting IIFYM and haven’t been able to find a better macro bread yet. I also loved the dressing she recommends. Even though I wasn’t in love with some of the things she mentioned it’s still a great vlog to get some ideas when you’re 1st starting out.

Fall Porch Decorations

Happy fall y’all!

I sure hope you’ve had more fall type weather than we’ve had in TX.
It’s still in the 90’s here.
It’s not fair……….reallllllly not fair!

Even though the weather isn’t on board with the season change my heart is so let’s pretending leaves are falling a chill is in the air and dressing in layers is a must as I take you on our little fall porch tour.

Fall is one of my most favorite holidays to decorate for because you get the most use out your decorations. We skip Halloween decorations (because I’m lazy) and leave our fall pretties up through November.

That’s 3 months of pumpkin love I get to enjoy!

As I like to do most things I tried to keep our fall porch décor cheap and simple!

Here’s the Simple:
-I didn’t switch out the flower pots even though a few of them are more spring/summer colors. Eh who cares, right?
-I didn’t want keep up with the responsibility of keeping plants alive. I’m not evening going to pretend that I have a green thumb (notice the mum on the right). So I picked up a couple of cheap mums from Wal-Mart. I think they were $3ish each. Mums are pretty hardy and can take a few missed days of watering. I filled in the gaps with pumpkins who totally don’t care if you don’t water them. It’s kind of like planting fake flowers only less cheesy. Or maybe planting pimpkins it’s more cheesy?

Here’s the Cheap:
- Cheap Wal-Mart pumpkins, even the fancy ones.
-It was time for a new fall wreath and I didn’t want to put the time in to making one so I picked this one up at Home Goods.
-Found the welcome sign at Big Lots of all places. I don’t usually shop there but was pleasantly surprised! They had TONS of cute seasonal décor!
-The door mat is a Target find. Remember seeing it in last week’s “Friday Faves” post?
- The tree stump was a discard from my in-law’s house aka free cuteness!

1. FALL DOOR MAT - I’ve been on the hunt for just the right fall door mat for a while. I wanted something warm and fallish (of course) but wanted something without pumpkins plastered all over it because my porch is already filled with them. I almost gave up the hunt and moved my focus to a finding a cute Christmas mat when I found this little guy hiding in a corner at Target. It was the last one and it was perfect. You can also find it on their website. Anyway it’s adorable and I love seeing it each time I open my front door.

2. WONDER BY R.J. PALACIO – I haven’t finished the book yet although I am enjoying it so far but what I love more is what this book has started. I was looking for a soul hugging book to read this fall (did you see my “Mama Fall Bucket List” ) when I found Wonder. It had awesome reviews claimed to be a quick read and is reviewed to make you laugh, cry, and feel warm fuzzies. Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. After picking my new fall read I started thinking “Humm this would be fun to read with other people…..like a book club!” I jumped on Periscope ran the idea of a virtual book club past my Periscope buddies and “We Be Book’N” was born! Yes I started a virtual book club with a bunch of strangers. Fun huh!?! Anyway I’m hoping we’ll get to know each other a little more over the next few months. Wonder is our 1st read. We have a Facebook group and will be hosting monthly book chat via Periscope!

3. DEVA CURL BE LEAVE-IN – I’m having a bit of a postpartum hair crisis. Massive hair loss and my curls are going all wonky. They used to be lush and bouncy but now are more frizzy and stringy. It’s not good! This stuff has honestly saved my hair because I had my phone in had ready to call my stylist to have it chopped off when Kent talked me down from the ledge. I did a little research (y’all know I research the crap out of things before I try them out) and found this stuff. I tried a few other items from the Deva Curl line but this one alone was a game changer for me. My curls are bouncy again and I no longer feel the need to chop them off. I’m still using the other products I shared in my “How I Style My Naturally Curly Hair” post but adding this into the mix. It does exactly what it says it’s going to do…..volume and soft bouncy curls. Hopefully my hair sorts itself out in a few months. I if I keep losing hair like I have been I’ll soon need to buy some ball caps to cover up the baldness.

4. MY FITNESS PAL – This week’s Wednesday’s post was all about my new diet plan. People like to call it a lifestyle but honestly this is a diet plan for me because once I drop the weight (if IIFYM works for me) I hope I will have learned something and will no longer need to count my macros. Anyway My Fitness Pal has been my buddy this last week! Even if you’re not following IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) this is a useful app to track your food intake and is super simple to use. I’m sure most people know about it. It’s been around for a while BUT I’ve been giving mine a little extra love this week as I’ve been tracking each and everything I eat. I recently upgrade to the Prime version and I love it. It’s great for visual people with all its graphs and pie charts!

5. COFFEE MUG – Another Target find. Not much to say about this one besides it’s cute and makes me even more happy for coffee time. They have several different sayings. I picked up the Warm and Cozy and Coffee coffee coffee one. Oh and it’s priced reasonably at $3.99

6. NATURAL BLISS PUMPKIN SPICE COFFEE CREAMER - Y’all this stuff is crazy yummy! I usually steer clear of these types of coffee creamers. I have them on occasion but for me I think they're too sweet and kind of kill the coffee flavor I love so much. The Natural Bliss creamer in Pumpkin Spice has just a hint of sweetness and pumpkin goodness without being too much and all the ingredients are things I know and can pronounce so that’s sweet. I’m going to be sad when they pull this one off the shelves come Christmas time.

7. IKEA BAGS - So am I late to the Ikea bag awesomeness bandwagon? I’m not sure if it’s even a thing or if I’m the only one that is in love with these massive bags. I was in Ikea a little while ago and picked up a bunch of random home décor items. The person that checked me out recommended that I purchase one of their bag for $1 to hold all my purchases. I pictured myself making 5 trips to the car with both boys on my hips. “YES I’ll take a bag, shoot I’ll take 2!” I had no idea how awesome and useful these things were going to be. Since bringing them home I’ve used them to…..
-Carry multiple bags of grocery in the house. I pile in several bags inside and swing it over my shoulder all while holding Carson.
- Cart laundry up and down the stairs.
- Collect boxes to take out to our Recycling bin.
- Gathered items from our closets that I wanted to donate.
- I loaded them up with our Costco purchases. They’re great for big bulk items.
- Collect laundry from the boy’s laundry baskets so I no longer need to carry the baskets down stairs.
These bags are awesome! I have one in our house and one in the car and next time I’m shopping at Ikea I’m picking up another so I can have 1 up stairs and 1 down. If you don’t have a massive Ikea bag you got to get in on this friends!

8. A Carson Favorite SIMILAC ALIMENTUM READY FEED – A Carson Favorite although I’m super happy about it too. I was able to nurse Weston until he was 6.5 months old which is a massive success story after all that we went though. Carson was doing GREAT! I had high hopes for our nursing relationship then all the sudden things took a bad turn. Caron has his own nursing story that is very different from Weston’s. I’m happy to share if you’re interested. Anyway we’re no longer nursing and it’s been a real struggle trying to find a formula that works with his sensitive system. What worked for Weston (who we also struggled with) didn’t work for Carson. Alimentum was our last choice. The ready feed version of this formula is the only formula at least over the counter that is hypoallergenic and corn free. Once we knocked out the diary and corn his digestion issues started to clear up. He’s eating so much better, chunking up even more, and started to sleep longer stretches at night (around 5 hours). His diapers are a million times better (I’m talking about poo guy just in case you missed that) and his skin has cleared up too. The sad part is that it’s CRAZY expensive even more so than what we had Weston on which was pricy. I’m in the process of trying to get our insurance to cover it as he has a prescription for it. Fingers crossed! The other good news that comes from this is we’re now able to get him in cloth diapers. I decided to hold off putting him in cloth until we got his digestion issues all sorted out. Yay for a new fluffy bum in the house!

9. A Weston Favorite LARGE PLASTIC DUMP TRUCK – I bought this at Target to use as a prop for a brother newborn shot I was doing (just to give you an idea of how large it is). I ended up not using it for the session but held onto it. Good thing I did because Weston has fallen in love with this truck. He plays with it constantly and it’s held up great to all the love Weston has given it. I bought it a year ago but I still see them at Target. It’s huge and I think I only paid $12 for it.

And because you can’t love everything here’s something I did not like……..

BOOOO! TRADER JOE’S HARVEST BLEND HERBAL TEA - Finding a new fall tea to enjoy was on my “Mama Fall Bucket List” I heard the harvest blend from Trader Joes was good so I picked it up. Uuummm nope it’s so NOT good. I tried it twice but I ended up tossing it. Save your money and skip it but do try………

TRADER JOE’S VANILLA & CINNAMON BLACK TEA – It’s good crazy good and they already have it out! Add a little cream to it and it’s like a yummy dessert in your cup! Usually I don’t see it on the shelves until we get closer to Christmas so I was excited to see it when I popped in to buy the harvest blend. I buy boxes of this tea and store it in my panty so I have some to enjoy throughout the year since you can only buy it during the holidays.

Some of our faves from the week being used because these are things we really do LOVE and have purchased with our own money. I’d be all over a Similac sponsorship though! Similac are you out there? Do you hear me?

Week 1: IIFYM If It fits Your Macros

Disclaimer: I’m about to talk about weight loss, eating plans, and a goal I’ve set for myself. Each time I chat openly about this topic I receive an influx of emails from folks asking me to join their coaching team and to use their weight loss aids. I’m not interested nor am I able to partake in any of that at this time due to my husband’s line of work. If at some point I am able to or decide that I would like to go down that path I have family and close friends that are involved with most of the larger companies that are out there and I would of course need to reach out to them 1^st. BUUUUT if you want to reach out to chat about health and fitness or something else I would love to hear from you! I love when you guys send emails just to connect and chat (not to get me to buy products or join a team) but chatting is fun!

Ok now on to today’s post!

As most of you know I got back on the weight loss train a few months back. Once Carson hit the 2 month mark I was ready to get back in the gym and tighten up my diet.
Sadly things are going slow, reallllll slow and I’m not seeing the results I would hope to be seeing at this point. I’ve lost weight but we’re talking 5lbs over a 3 month span. Not good! Being 5 9 and having around 50 pounds to lose I should be dropping more weight than that.

Here’s where the new plan comes into play.

Kent and I were chatting about my results the other day. I told him how shocked I was that I wasn’t losing more weight. Then he said something that really hit home……

”If you’re not seeing the results you want you need to make some changes.”

Light bulb moment! He was so right!
My body isn’t responding to what I’m doing so why not shake things up a little?

I’ve been following the If It Fits Your Macros/Flexible Dieting world for some time. I’m a member of the Facebook groups, I follow a few bloggers that live a IIFYM lifestyle, and I’ve even done some research on it. It’s always intrigued me because I see the awesome results people get but seemed so confusing and intimidating which is why I’ve been watching from afar too afraid to give it a go.

But after Kent placed that little light bulb above my head I figured what do I have to lose?
Well I do have a bunch of weight to lose. I’d be totally cool with kicking some lbs to the curb.

So I decided to jump in even thought I had no idea what in the world I was doing. I figured I’ll give myself a little grace the 1st week or so and learn while I’m in the trenches.

I’m going to keep an open mind about the whole thing and see where it takes me.

I was around 11 months postpartum with Weston before I started to lose weight (no mater how clean I ate). I tried and tried and tried but my body for whatever reason wasn’t ready to let go of the fat. I did a cleanse right before Weston turned 1 and dropped 15 pounds then got pregnant with Carson. My body may just work that (hold onto weight) way after I have babies. Who knows but I’m willing to give this a go and see what happens.

Maybe this will be just what I need to shake up my metabolism.
Maybe I’m not eating the right combinations of food to help my body be a lean mean weight loss machine. Maybe I’m I’m not eating enough. I know, how can you be overweight because you’re not eating enough. Sounds crazy right but it’s happens.
Maybe IIFYM won’t work for me or maybe it will. Who knows?

And so the journey begins.

As I’m typing this I’m on day 2 and still feeling all…..”Huh macros what????”
Do I weight this in grams?
What if My Fitness Pal only shows it measured in cups.
Do I need to do some converting or look things up before I weigh them to see what the measurements they offer for that item?

Y’all I’m incredibly awful at math. No joke I was in remedial math in high school. The whole converting and calculating serving sizes makes my knees knock but I figured if all these other people can figure it all out I can too. Kent aka the resident math genius sat down with me last night and a little math lesson. It was really helpful and I’m feeling much better about tackling tomorrow. It’s simple math y’all so don’t let me scare you if you’re thinking about giving it a go. Again I’m really crummy at match so what’s hard for me may be a no brainer for you.

I just need to remember give myself a little grace and allow for some growing pains.
No matter what program you choose there’s always that 1st week or so where things are a little tricky…….
You’re trying to learn the dos and don’ts.
You’re trying to see what works best for you.
You’re trying to make sense of it all.
Yep I’m definitely in the “Tricky Phase” this week BUT I’ve committed to a month so not matter what I’m going to give it my all for a month and see what I think. If it doesn’t work out no sweat if it does then SWEEEEET!

My thoughts so far:
I’m only on day 2 so I’m newer than a newbie but I can already see some great things about this lifestyle.

1. I was not eating enough. Like nowhere close to where I needed to be. I get so caught up with my kids and I’m not always able to sit and eat a meal. When I do eat I’m usually famished and eat way more than I should. IIFYM is holding me accountable and helping me make sure I get in my nutrients and a good combination of nutrients not just a salad here or some fruit there. I’m eating a well balance diet.

2. Since I’m weighing everything out I’m keeping my portions in check. It’s good to see what a healthy portion of fish or chicken looks like.

The hard part……

This has been the most difficult program I’ve ever done but again I’ve set a goal so I’m determined to get my IIFYM sea legs about me. It’s just the weighting thing that I need to get used to but everyone eventually gets it down so I’m sure I will too.

Things that have helped me so far…….

My Fitness Pal (the premium version), a food scale, IIFYM YouTubers & Bloggers (thank goodness for my friend Megan), and a good ole’ Google search are crucial to getting your wings about ya. I’m trying to not hire a IIFYM coach unless I get stuck or until I know this is the eating plan I definitely want to follow. There’s tons of helpful info out there you just have to put some time into doing a little research.

I’ll check in with you guys as I go along and let you know how I’m doing. I know there are several others who are interested in getting started but a little fearful like myself so I’ll post updates as I go along.

A Random Story & My Mama Fall Bucket List

I fell up the stairs this morning.
Yes I said “up the stairs”
It’s kind of a thing for me…..
falling often while doing normal things, like standing.

I had a cup full of fresh hot coffee in one hand….
(you see where I’m going with this right)
and a plate of food for Weston in my other hand.
I was walking up the starts just like anyone else would do when my toe got stuck in my pant leg
I know how does this even happen?
I’m confused myself.
With my hands full and not willing to let go of my precious coffee I fell.
Full on TIMBERRRRRRRRR mode right UP the stairs.

It was a bad one y’all.

Coffee all over me, my carpet, the walls, down the stair rails, food everywhere.
It took me and my cleaning crew aka Brady to get everything sorted out.

Weston was in our bed watching TV when I fell. After all the commotion he said “Did you hear that?”
Umm yes buddy I did. I sure did!
Kent came running to the stairs.
Looked down at me made sure I was ok then just shook his head.
These things happen.
They just happen an awful lot to me.

I’m okay.
One more bruise added to the bunch.
I’m more sad about my coffee than anything else.

After I got everything cleaned up and kissed Kent goodbye I told him we should probably have a life insurance plan on me.
“You’ll most likely be able to collet on that before I’ll be able to collect on yours.” I said,
We laughed
then got quiet for a second……
One of those actually that’s not a bad idea pauses.

So the moral of the story is…..
If you’re clumsy you pretty much live life on the edge.
You’re a ticking time bomb.
Get some life insurance yo!

I woke up before the kids the other day……

I know gasp!

I was waiting for Carson to wake me up around 3am (per his usual) but he didn’t which is a very very tricky game babies play on their parents sometimes.

I just knew the second I fell back asleep he’s going to start screaming.

So I waited……
annnnnnd waited……
and waited some more until I was WIDE awake and there was no way I was falling back asleep.

I decided to make use of this kid free time.

Visions of drinking coffee kid free aka hot coffee danced in my head.
Because coffee, ALWAYS!

I opened the door to let Brady out to go potty and was hit in the face with a breeze of cool crisp air.

The equivalent of waving hot fresh donuts in the face of a police officer.

WHAT is this?
Fall is that you?
I thought it was only September.
Fall doesn’t hit TX until January.
What’s going on?
Maybe I’m dreaming?
Oh oh oh I see the sneaky game you’re playing Texas!
You DO let fall trickle in but I guess you have to be up at the crack of dawn to enjoy it.
Ok let’s do this!

The quick sniff of crisp fall air awoke the fall lover in me and filled her heart will all things plaid and pumpkin. She was excited!
Very excited!

I took my hot coffee and my favorite fall candled (Spiced Apple Wreath by Better Homes and Garden) and ran to my office.
Quietly though. Didn’t want to wake the kids. So I guess it was more like a tiptoe hop than a run.

I settled in at my desk….
took a big whiff of my candle…….
sipped my yummy and very hot coffee…….

It was time to make a fall bucket list and quick before I was hit with the 90 degree heat and humidity that’s still very present in Texas.

And so I Pinterestd’ (Umm Pinterested? I don’t know. We’re going for a verb here), planned and crafted two fall bucket lists.

I even got out my planner and sent out some text to set some fall plans in motion!
Only with my mama friends though because they are the only ones that I can text at 5am and know I’m not waking them.

I created one fall bucket list for the family which I’m sharing with you today and another for myself; the quintessential fall lover.

Let’s jump on in…..

Planners: Two years in a row I said I was done with Erin Condren planners and went a different direction. One year I actually tossed my new planner and went running back to Erin’s planner with my tail tucked between my legs. She’s good y’all reallllll good BUT I hate how expensive they are and I’m just kind of ready for something new ya know? So here we are again almost to the end of the year and I’m starting to think on what I want to do. Fork over the $50 for Erin’s planner goodness or give another company a try. Has she completely mastered the market?

Here are a few I’m thinking on:
Inkwell Press - Not a cheaper option but I like the simplified look. I’m leaning towards this one but they are currently sold out POO! Hoping I can get one in Nov when they release more.
Day Designer - Another high end option. Oh these are lovely. They break down the days a little different than your typical planner, more of a list style. Y’all know I like my list! This planner is more business geared which I’m not too sure that’s what I want this year.
Create 365 Planner – Super cute! Love the cover options as well as the layout inside. It’s much more cost effective than other planners I’m thinking on ($24.14 and you can get it even cheaper at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon) and the line has tons of fun stickers and add ones you can use in the planner. BUT I’ve actually held this one in my hands and flipped through it and I’m not so sure the quality is there. I’m worried about it lasting throughout the year. You get what you pay for I guess.

I’m still not sure which way I’m going to go but if you have a favorite planner or use one of these let me know what you think!

Hosting a Baby Shower: I’m hosting a baby shower for my BFF this weekend. She’s really more like my sister than a friend. I’m beyond excited to be able to do this for her as I love her so! I’m looking forward to celebrating my sweet nieces. YES she had twins, identical baby girls! They joined us a little earlier than planned but are growing and doing well. It’s been a while since I’ve hosted an actual party and let me tell ya if you need to get your house in order throw a party. It works every stinking time! We cleaned out the garage. I started the boys’ play room. Organized all my photography props. Decorated my porch for fall and this list goes on. This is all running on very little sleep. Seeing how much I can get done on 4 hours of sleep with a baby who doesn’t want to be put down is showing me I can do way more than I thought! I’m not going to be able to finish everything before the shower but I’m going to keep the momentum going no sleep and all.

Pioneer Woman's New Line at Walmart: Have you seen it? Ugh I stop and drool over the pieces each time I go in and I’m not the only one. I caught another lady doing the same thing. Of course I called her on it. We had a good chuckle then shared our love for Ree. The plates, the bowls, the glasses, the serving pieces stinking beautiful! Everyone is on a white kick these days. I’m so happy to see a stylish line that has some color to it. I would be over the moon to own her whole line! Yep it’s that pretty! I may add her stuff to my Christmas list this year.

We’re Moving: Well not us exactly but the blog is moving and y’all I am sooooo crazy excited to share all that will be going on with the blog. Nothing big will be happening until late December so you’ll still find me here for a couple months but just know that come Jan our little space on the interwebs will be be snazzy and the punctuation error in the header will be no longer! Y’all know I’m far from being a grammar or spelling queen but that flub done by my old designer kind of urks me. Be excited for the changes (better photo quality, a better platform for me to interact with you, awesome new design) I’m mixing our personal blog, my photographer work, and our DROOLZIES shop into one happy virtual house. It’s going to be lovely!

Periscope: Have you jumped on the bandwagon? Well you should. It’s fun like real fun! I love that I can jump on and easily share. There’s no editing that needs to be done and I’m crazy about the live chat feature. It’s awesome to be able to connect with others right then and there. So far I’ve shared tips for selecting clothing for fall photos (from a photographer’s point of view). We went shopping or cheap but funky pumpkins. We looked at Big Lots fall and Christmas décor (they have some cute stuff). I shared my 5 minute mama makeup routine. I’ve done a Stitch Fix haul and I’m starting a story time series. Friday Favorites

Makeup Loves:

I’ve fallen in love with the Pixi makeup line. I’ve bought several things from them and have been so happy with everything I’ve tried out.

This lip tint is the perfect pop of soft color and shine…..not too much color just a pretty soft pink ! I’m kissing on my babies most of the day so I usually go for softer colors while I’m wearing my mama hat (hate when people kiss my babies and leave big dark lipstick stains on their skin) and this is one that I’ve been grabbing for lately. I even wear it to the gym. A little tip: It looks super light in person but it actually turns to a pretty soft pink when you apply it.

I’ve never really been a brow person. I didn’t color them in or use a tinted wax to shape them. It seemed like an extra step that I didn’t need. Oh friends I was so wrong. Pixi’s Natural Brow Duo is a super low key way to give your bows some love. It takes no time for me to use it and I love the manicured look it gives my brows. It’s one of those things where you look at yourself and think “Something looks different, good but different and I can’t quite pinpoint what the change is.” It’s the brows y’all! I’m converted and now use this daily even when I’m applying my 5min mama makeup.

Mama Loves:

Oh this bag! It’s worthy of its own post but let me tell ya why I’m even more in love with it this week. During a recent road trip a bottle leaked in my bag. I didn’t noticed that it had happened until the smell set in. Oh the smell blah! Besides the awesome print another reason I was pulled towards this bag is that it claims to be machine washable. Well stinky bottle spillage was the perfect time to test it out. I was worried that my beloved diaper bag would come out of the dryer in pieces but you know what it didn’t . She looked just as pretty as she did when I 1st bought her and the stink was gone! Awesomesauce!

We love our DROOLZIES bibs. Yessss I’m the creator of them and sale them in our Esty store BUT as a mama I also love them for my boys. Their cute and they do a great job of catching all that drool and spitup. Weston wore the stink out of his when he was teething. Random Love:

I recently bought a package LePen colored pens to use in Carson’s baby book and our family Project Life album. I was told they write beautifully. They are nice pens don’t get me wrong but you know what? I like the markers from The Dollar Tree a million times better! I bought of The Dollar Tree markers for Weston. While I was waiting for my LePen order to come in I needed a fine tipped marker pen for something I was working on so I went into our craft closet and grabbed one from this set. Oh my y’all I was pleasantly surprised. They write beautifully! I honestly see myself grabbing for these over my nice LePens. The Dollar Tree markers have moved out of the craft closet and now have a nice spot on my desk. I used them to address baby shower invites and have been using them in my Erin Condren planner as well. Love good cheap stuff!

Carson’s Love:

Carson is starting to teeth aka everything goes straight to his mouth. He loves his little blue elephant! It’s easy for him to hold in his hands, there’s lots of little things he can chew on, and he loves the crinkly sound it makes while he’s playing with it. If we’re going to be out of the house for a while and I always pack this little guy in our diaper bag in case he has a melt down and needs a distraction. It’s saved several times.

Weston’s Love:

Weston is all about anything transportation. Trucks, cars, airplanes, construction vehicles he loves them all but lately he’s been on a train kick. I bought him these train magnets for Christmas but put them away for awhile. You know the “Oh look at this new toy trick” for rainy days when they’re bored. He loved them when he 1st played with them after Christmas but he looooves them now. He’ll play with them on his own for a good 30 min. That’s 10 hours in toddler time. He’s sitting next to me while I type this and just said “Oh my train magnets! I love train magnets. My favorite!” so there ya have it he gave it his actual stamp of approval.

Tomorrow we’ll be celebrating Weston’s 2nd birthday!

Oh my gosh y’all I have a 2 year old! WHAT THE WHAT!?!

Instead of a party we’re doing the same thing we did for him last year…….
A day full of extra special fun.
Of course presents and a yummy treat will be involved.
He’s not really into cake but he loves ice cream so ice cream it is with cherries and sprinkles of course!

Tomorrow just he and I will be celebrating during the day. I have some fun car themed crafts and outings planned……..
because as we all know cars are his most favorite thing!
Kent is taking off early so we can take him to a special dinner at Peter Piper Pizza.
In a toddlers eye’s that’s some fine dining right there!

Kent is taking the day off on Friday so we can take him for a fun outing during the day!
I’m digging this no party thing because we’re able to put what we would spend on a party towards activities, outings, and special treatment for the birthday boy but I have a feeling this will be his last birthday without an actually party.
As soon as he’s old enough to tell us that’s what he wants then a party it is!

Not sure why but his 2nd birthday is hitting me a lot harder than his 1st did.
Maybe because he’s more of a little boy now.

He talks up a storm.
He plays like a little boy (which is one of my most favorite things to watch).
I can reason with him.
He asks legit questions.
I find myself staring at him and thinking………..
how did this happen?
You were my sweet chunk just days ago now you’re this little boy.

I’ve been thinking back to “pregnant Kendra”
All the emotions I was experiencing as we prepared for his arrival.
The big belly I loved so much. Feeling him kick and move around.
The anticipation of seeing him for the 1st time.
How beautiful his labor was.
How I was hit with an over powering amount of love the second they laid him in my arms.
What an amazing gift he is and how blessed I am to be his mama.

It may be sleep deprivation
(blame our new sweet chunk who hates sleep)
but I’ve been an on emotional loon this week.
Its all the mushy gooey and all things cheesy love I have for this boy of ours makes me do wacky things.

And because I’m a bad photographer mama I just now getting around to editing some of his 1st birthday pictures.
That’s what happens when photography is your job.
Your kids stuff gets pushed to the backburner and I’m talking the backburner at the house 5 cities over.
Oh well now we can look at them and be like…..
“Awwww look how little he was.”
When you wait a whole year to edit photos they take on a whole new meaning!

And because they are just too cute not to share here are few of Weston’s 1st year photos……
a year late.

How I Style My Naturally Curly Hair

1. Hair Dryer and Diffuser – The one above is the one I actually use but the main thing you need is a diffuser attachment for your hair dryer. The diffuser helps to add volume and keep your curl intact while blow drying. The more curly hair is fussed with the more frizz you open yourself up to. A gentle blow dry is best! Air drying is of course an option but I love the extra volume I get when drying with a diffuser.

Style Tip: I flip my head over and blow dry without the diffuser for about 3 minutes. During this step I’ll scrunch my hair in my hand to help create more curl. I then add the diffuser attachment and finish it off with my head still flipped over. Having your head flipped over while drying adds volume! You’ll want to scoop your curls into the diffuser and hold it in place for a few seconds. After most of my hair is dried I flip my head upright and use the diffuser to add a little volume around the crown. Do you see the trend here? Volume…..volume…… and more volume!

2. Styling Gel – I’ve been using Biosilk’s Glazing Gel for years. Every now and then I’ll try something else just to see what’s out there but I have yet to find a gel that works as well as this does with my hair. It’s a thin gel which is one of the things I love about it. The thin consistency makes it easy to work through my hair and it holds my curl in place without making it look wet and crunchy. You that wet crunchy look I’m talking about!

Style Tip: I put a little in the palm of my hands and apply it throughout my hair in sections making sure that it gets in the areas where I tend to get more frizz and have tighter curls. I also make sure not to apply too much around the crown to keep it from weighing my curl down. Just a nice light even application is what you’re looking for. Once it’s applied I flipped my head over and use my hands to scrunch my my curls all over making sure to focus on the crown, again I want that volume and lift in the crown. This step bring the curls back to life after being flattened out from applying the gel. After this step I apply the frizz serim (look below) start the blow drying process.

3. Frizz Serium – This is not something that everyone will need. It really depends on your curl type. My curls are all over the place, tight, wavy, frizzy. I have a mix bag of curls if you will. Love this product to help define my curls, kick the frizz, and help with flyways. A little goes a loooooong way so be sure not to get carried away.

Style Tip: After I’ve blow dried my hair I’ll apply a little drop on my fingers and twist it around the curls that are frizzy and need a little extra love. It’s not something that I have to do each time I style my hair but it helps if I notice extra frizz . I only wash my hair a couple times a week so when it’s getting close to wash time and frizz is starting to creep in I’ll take a little in my hands and apply it to areas I need a little help.

4. Aerosol Hairspray – Nexxus Maxximum Hold aerosol does a great job of holding my curl and giving me that volume I love while keeping my hair from getting crunchy!

Style Tip: After I’m done blow drying my hair I flip my head over lift my curls with my hand and give my hair a light spray. I then flip my head back over again lifting my curls with my hand and spray at the roots. This step locks in all that volume I’ve worked so hard to achieve.

And well most of the time I keep it pulled back, little fingers like to pull it ya know but sometime I do fix it the way I used to wear it before I had kids and when I do it looks like this…….

The One Where I Ramble About Many Things……

I missed this week’s Wednesday post. We got back from our annual trip to Colorado Tuesday evening and I just didn’t have it in me to throw a post or vlog together. It’s okay to miss one week sometimes, right?

I’ll have a Colorado round up post on the blog soon! I have TONS to share!
I recorded a couple vlogs while we were there as well as a cabin tour and took tons of photos.

Okay now onto the rambling………

I was listing to the Pandora workout station during my workout today and I swear I heard a song with the lyrics “Hotter than a baby in a microwave”.
Ummm disturbing much?
Has anyone else heard this song?
It could have been the lack of oxygen to my brain during my stair climbing session but I’m pretty sure that’s what the song said.

I’m thinking long and hard about getting into trail running.
Yes the girl who HAAAAATES to run and has bad knees but tail running sounds fun to me.
I blame CO and all its beautiful crunchiness.
It makes me want to hug trees and walk around in ugly sandals.
It’s going to take some time to work up to it. Maybe a fitness goal?
I wrote it in on my focus list with a bunch of question marks around it.
I’m deathly afraid of snakes and being attacked by stray dogs.
As long as the 2 go into hiding while I’m running we’ll be all good! Do they make steal toe running shoes?

I started reading a book this week.
I know I’m shocked too!
I passed buy it in the library. It had a hiking shoe on the cover which totally caught my eye (again blame my CO obsession).
Why yes I do judge a book by its cover. Don’t lie you know you do too.
I love the idea of reading but with self diagnosed ADD and sleep deprivation (blame the sweet infant of ours) reading has been pushed to the wayside (side note: I used to think it was waste side, totally made sense to me). Anyway I digress……..I’m the queen of starting and not finishing books. They have to be super awesome to keep my attention but like I said I love the idea of reading so I added “Read a Freaking Book” to my focus list. When I saw the hiking boot book (it’s called Wild) I went for it. Kent was very impressed to see me reading last night. So basically what I’m trying to say here is that reading makes you look good so if you’re not reading a book at the moment maybe you should add “Read a Freaking Book” to your focus list!

Joking aside
!!!!I need some good book suggestions!!!!

Toddlers do this but no one warns you about it……..
They like to toot in public and they don’t care how many people are around. The SBDs (silent but deadly) ones are the most embarrassing because it could have totally been you that cut the cheese. We were at Nordstrom Rack shopping for shoes the other day. Weston and I were sitting on the floor trying on different shoes. There was a mother with her daughter right next to us and II mean riiiight next to us. Perfect sniffing distance. Well Weston just let em’ rip. As soon as the smell from one went away he let another one out. I felt like I should apologize to the mom but if I did that it would have come off like I crop dusted but was blaming my kid so I said nothing and just laughed. Which I‘m sure made me look even more guilty. Weston laughed too but he had no idea why we were laughing. Oh to be so free.

While we were playing at the library which was quiet enough for all around to hear Weston lifted my maxi skirt up and said “Where’s your underwears mama?” Again I had to laugh. This kid! Thankfully I was wearing “underwears”

My work schedule is about to kick up and I’m a little nervous about it.
I’m officially off maternity leave in October.
I tried really really hard to keep my fall shooting schedule to a minimal but there were just some shoots I could not turn down. Before I knew it I had doubled what I said I would take on.
It’s still a lighter load than I would typically shoot in the fall (high season for photographers) but I’m nervous.
With Carson getting up all night I just can’t pull those crazy work hours like I used to.
My MIL is an awesome support but she doesn’t love having both boys at the same time (I don’t blame her) so it’s going to be a challenge figuring out how to make it all work.
I’m pumped to get back to shooting but it will be a challenging to figure out how to manage the boys, the house, my work load, oh and Droolzies (btw I’ll soon be running a massive sale to clear our innovatory as we restock for fall/winter be on the look out).
Good thing I love a challenge!
I’m sure it will work out just fine but please send coffee hugs. I’ll need them!

Halloween is coming up! As any mom with more than 1 kid would I’m looking forward to dressing my boys in themed costumes. They can hate me when they're older! I motioned to Kent that I thought it would be cute to dress Weston as a fireman (he loves fire trucks) and dress Carson as a Dalmatian. Adorable right? Kent was shocked that I would even suggest that. He said “That’s not fair. You can’t make Carson Weston’s dog. Weston gets to be a fireman but Carson has to be a dog? NO WAY!” Ummm totally didn’t think of it like that and I still think it would be adorable. Don’t you?

FLASHBACK POST – The Mountains are Calling

Awesome but Incredibly Random Story

Okay kiddies gather around. It’s time for story time!

Any long time readers remember this cabin we visited a few years back? You can find our blog post on it here in case you need to jog your memory!

We’ve stayed in many a cabin (I have a post on my cabin obsession here) and this beauty is one of our favorites.

The views, the property, the cabin itself it’s just the perfect cozy abode. In fact I’m a little sad we won’t be able to stay here again……..

Here’s where the interesting but totally random story part kicks in!

I received a comment on our YouTube channel this week form a nice man thanking me for sharing our vlogs about this cabin. He told me that because of them he and his wife recently purchased it.

Whhhhhhaaaaaat (scratching record sound plays)!?!?!?!?

We messaged back and forth a few times and he told me that he did a Google search for cabins in Arkansas. Our vlogs that we shared from our stay in this cabin popped up. They fell in love with it and rightfully so it’s a great place.

They noticed that it was in Mountain View, Arkansas did a little more digging and guess what…….

That very same cabin he fell in love with from watching our vlogs was for sale! They purchased it a couple weeks ago and he was kind enough to come back to our channel to share the story with me.

I know awesome, right? See I told you it was an incredibly random but awesome story!

Aren't the interwebs so neat?

I’ve meat so many awesome people through our Instagram account and now our silly vlogs helped direct someone towards their new home.

They are living in the cabin full time so it will no longer be a rental property but I have warned him that he may randomly find me sitting like this on his back porch.

The moral of the story is…….

If you have an awesome cabin preferable tucked in the woods with an amazing view that you’re looking to sale you should probably invite me for a visit. As a thank you I’ll help you sale it!

I am now a mama with a minivan and I couldn’t be more excited about it! This week I’m going to take you on a little tour of our new ride.

Also the “How I Style My Naturally Curly Hair” post is coming along. It’s almost done so I hope to have it up soon. Now I know why it’s a post that’s been highly requested for the longest but something I’m just now doing. Typing up a post about hair especially crazy curly hair is no joke! I hope to have it up later this week but that all depends on the nap hating infant.

VLOG: Kent’s 40th aka Food Coma

So this weekend was supposed to be all about Kent but he surprised me with something pretty sweet! I’m going to make y’all watch this week’s vlog to see what he surprised me with!

Y’all my tummy could not hang with Kent! SO.MUCH.MEAT!

He only turns 40 once so I decided to put my Whole30 diet on hold for the weekend so he could pick restaurants freely without worrying if there was something I could eat. All of his favorites are some of my favorites as well but the boy LOVES meat so that’s pretty much all he ordered for 3 days straight. I was so excited to see those Asian greens at our last birthday meal on Sunday!

I’m happy to repot that I didn’t gain back any of the weight I had lost over the weekend which I was for sure would happen. 1 week into the Whole30 and I’m down 3 pounds yahoo!

Annnd about the surprise…….Eeekkk I’m so excited! It was a last minute thing and something I didn’t think was going to happen this year so I‘m even more pumped than I usually get!

Of course I’ll be taking you guys along with us! I’ll be vlogging while we’re there and sharing photos during our trip with all my Instagram pals! My dream job is to be a travel host and this is about as close as I’m going to get so I LOVE to share our vacations with you!
