Meet Steve Fisher our Batterer Intervention & Prevention Coordinator. Steve has worked for DVP, Inc. for 13.5 years. He has an undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Sociology and a Doctorate in Holistic Healthcare from Clayton College. The BIP Program is a behavior modification based cirriculum that ranges from 18-32 weeks in duration. It gives people the tools they need to make better choices using non-abusive measures when confronted with difficult situations in their relationships. During the month of August, our program was given the distinction of beting rated #1 in the state of Texas.

Steve quoted, “The greatest pleasure I receive from my job is when a client tells me that our program has made a big difference in their family and in their personal lives”. Steve’s outside hobbies include bodybuilding, where he wond the 2013 INBA National Championship in the ultra-masters division, and many other fitenss acitvities, such as riding his bicycle to and from work when weather permits. DVP, Inc. is honored to have Steve part of our team.

Meet Alicia Smith, our new Deputy Director. Alicia has been with Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc. since 2009. She first started as a Legal Advocate for Little River County for 2 1/2 years. There she helped guide victims through the court system while they petition to have their protective order issued. In November 2011, Alicia moved to the main office in Texarkana and worked Miller County as a Legal Advocate. Then in February 2013, Alicia became Deputy Director for the agency. “Working for Domestic Violence Prevention is my dream job”, said Alicia. As a Legal Advocate, Alicia enjoyed working with the court systems and she felt it was very rewarding to help victims become free from a life of violence. As Deputy Director she is gettting “back to her roots” in human resources and management in which she had 10 years experience from working for Albertstons, LLC. Alicia has her Associate in Arts degree with a major in Criminal Justice. We are proud to have Alicia as our new Deputy Director.

Sexual Assault Training

Time: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm

Learn how to be an on-call sexaual assault volunteer. We will go on hospital and police department tours (so wear comfortable shoes). Also, we will be giving t-shirts and name badges to all those who choose to be an on-call Sexual Assault Volunteer. In completetion of this training, you will be certified through DVP, Inc. and the State of Texas.

Connie D. Sloan, Executive Director

We would like to introduce our new Executive Director, Connie D. Sloan. Connie has been a part of Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc. since 1996. She first joined DVP as a Legal Advocate. For the past 5 years, Connie has served as our Deputy Director. As our Deputy Director she oversaw the operations for domestic violence agency, grants, and general management for five sites. She also, oversaw the Legal Advocacy Division for a two-state, seven county areas for victims of domestic violence. Before Connie joined DVP, she has served as National Security Director with Crown Leasing, Drug Elimination Director with Federal Housing, Northeast Texas Highway Safety-Project Director, Director of Corporate Security with Independent American Savings & Loan, Sergeant with Texarkana Texas Police Department, and has an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Connie Has served for four years on the Board of Directors with Texas Council on Family Violence in Austin, TX and on the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence (State Agency). In 1992, Connie was named as one of Texarkana’s “Remarkable Women of the Century” by the Texarkana Historical Museum Society. Connie brings a lot of experience, as well as a lot of helpful insight into our organization. She continues to make sure that DVP moves forward and that we can continue to serve the Ark-La-Tex long into the future.We are proud to have Connie as our Executive Director and look forward to having her with us for many more years to come.
