Another Great Wave Spot (Enquentro) has been closed to Paddle Boarders...why?
1. Hurt feelings in the "pack" on the "peak".
2. Probably not the best place to paddle board.
3. Surf posse didn´t appreciate the SUP crowd.

The Enquentro SUP crew moved up to the Kite Beach, which they quickly realized is a much better set of SUP Breaks. So how to keep things cool on the SUP Break?
1. Understand the Map and give some Aloha to the people who produced the Map. A simple rule in SUP, if you don´t understand the map, take a lesson. This Map was created by methodlodge.com

2. Wave Count....if you catch all the waves you go for have fun challenging the pack at the peak. If someone doesn´t like it, too bad. If you catch half the waves you go for move closer to the channel until you get your wave count and percentage up. Once you are nailing everything feel free to hassle for the peak. If your percentage is low stay on the edge of the channel. This is the quickest way to get good. Most of all BE HONEST with yourself, keep count of the waves you are going for and the ones you caught. This alone will make you a better wave rider.

Wow...Kite Beach Cabarete has been getting a ho loto surf...unfortunately a lot of onshore wind came with it...Epic Surf hit Kite Beach Cabarete Sunday March 6th...off shore winds and large surf made for an epic evening session. Even Larger Surf arrived Monday making for quality Big Wave SUP action. North West Winds arrived mid morning on Monday and have stayed all day all night since.
Looks like these winds have blown themselves out and quality SUP action may return as early as Sunrise Friday.

Learning to kite, wind clock

Kite Steering, Learning to Kite

Riders need to understand that their harness is the main Hand. The harness holds all the load and the rider’s hands simply steer and trim the kite.

There are three types of steering in the KITEs Method, they are:
Core Steering;
Using only the harness and body angle to steer the kite.
Positive Steering;
Pushing the bar with one hand to steer the kite.
Negative Steering;
Pulling with one hand to steer the kite.
In kiteboarding, steering is extremely sensitive. In essence, we use positive grip pressure, no grip pressure or negative grip pressure to steer kites. For the remainder of the book, we will go over how and when to use these steering techniques.
Core Steering is like starting at zero. It’s the only way entry level riders can truly quantify hand pressure as it relates to steering. Entry level riders shouldn’t grab the bar to steer the kite. They should let go of the bar, square up to the kite and then add slight hand pressure before letting go again. When steering is approached this way, riders can begin to quantify how a small push or pull on the bar will effect the path of the kite. The biggest surprise in kiteboarding is how little pressure is required to steer the kite.

Extremely Late Season Tropical Depressions have brought most of the Caribbean 24 hour wind for weeks...looks like this trend will fade as a ho loto surf is heading towards Kite Beach Cabarete starting manana. Waves should build slowly the rest of this week peaking this weekend through next week.

Wow...it´s been blasting windy through most of the Caribbean...NO SUP ACTION!
Looks like this trend has turned, a Large Winter Low Pressure System is cruising through Cuba now. It has displaced the Bermuda High Pressure System which brings strong Trade winds to most of the Islands. Look for Quality Surf Thursday through the Week End. Glassy conditions will give way to trade Winds later in these days.

SUP´s back

After 2 1/2 years of solid wind we finally got some Surf and with Surf comes rain...but wow the last years were awesome kite action. Endless down winders with no threat of rain, just strong winds and clear skies...the down side was no waves, we had a drought and the wind blew our beach away. Those days are gone, the rain came and with the rain came a loto surf, big beaches and cooler temps. Now we are back in a Surf mode so look for quality winds 5 days a week with good Surf action 3-5 mornings a week. Moderate cloud cover and ample rain should continue.

Killer Big Wave Action for Kite Beach Cabarete and all of the North Coast. Our SUP CUP was happening today because Surf was massive. All the Paddlers on Kite Beach made it back alive THANK GOD...actually I got an Assist from God after my Leash Plug gave way...Thanks God for allowing me to recover my board and ride a Nice one in! Unfortunately at least one Tourist was not so fortunate...he entered the ocean today with no idea of how powerful Wind and Waves are. RIP...hope tourist understand that this is the North Coast where veteran Watermen Challenge wind and waves...the two most powerful forces on Earth... PLEASE don´t underestimate these forces and there are some very qualified Coaches here on Kite Beach Cabarete so seek them out or stay on the beach! photo by Oron Kessel

Look for Big Surf Thursday Night through the Weekend

Currently a huge Low Pressure System is Lifting away from Kite Beach Cabarete...this gives Kite Beach quality weather, family waves and glassy waters. This trend will continue through tomorrow. The sky is crystal Clear and the Moon is Setting to the West early morning so pre Dawn Sessions are ON through the Weekend.

The SUP Cup is on for Kite Beach Cabarete...the swell hit last night near Sunset and a visiting group of Israeli Watermen were on it. This morning brought Huge Glassy Surf, at least 2 guys made it out...1 Israeli Junior Champion and Method John .
The groms from Israel are next level with micro boards and paddles perfectly suited to their size and skill level and they are RIPPING...in fact, they are so next level that when I watch them, I doubt the future of Lay Down Paddling. It is very clear that the Paddle is the future for kids.

Kite Beach Cabarete has been lucky this winter, we have had quality Morning Surf with Great Kite Wind coming in late...fortunately this pattern looks like it will hold through next week. Mainly because the Winter Low Pressure Systems are Lifting as they pass through Florida. This action gives Kite Beach Cabarete quality SUP and Kite conditions with out heavy weather and driving rain. Wow...Kite Beach Cabarete has been lucky that these Huge Winter Low Pressure Systems are bringing surf but are not flooding the Island with Rain. The Storms are stopping just short of kite Beach Cabarete and they are taking an Easterly track which leaves Kite Beach Cabarete in the Clear!

Big Wave Action is here...it always seems that NFL Super Bowl Weekend brings Classic Big Wave Action, Rain and Cool Temps. This year is no different...surf is pounding, rain is failing and the Super Parties are coming together. I know a lot of beach goers don´t care for this type of weather, but hey...it´s freaking hot in the tropics and generally flat surf so this is a time of celebration for year round residents. Cool, Rainy, Big Surf, and good parties!

Wow...the big Nasty is hear...but wait...late will be great for Paddle Boarding head high surf! Sunrise brought 25knot North Westerly Wind with head high surf...but as usual, this "clearing wind " will fade quickly through out the day. There is a 64% chance of super SUP wave action as we near Sunset. Notice in the images below that the Swell (Amber in color) is hours away form Kite Beach Cabarete and a HUGE Low Pressure System is charging off the Coast of Florida. this means that there will be good SUP action for the next 52 hours...then we will get back into a "clearing Wind" situation with a strong possibility of another AM Kite trip to Cabarete...

Slow lift...this big Low Pressure System (white n blue in color) is slowly lifting North West which gives Kite Beach Cabarete small flat waves, light rain, cloud cover and AC like temperatures. The Swell (amber in color) is just hitting Havana now and is a day away from hitting Kite Beach Cabarete. The Swell (Amber color) seems to have more West that North in it which does not work so well for us here on Kite Beach Cabarete because Cuba, Florida and the Bahamas catch or block most of the swell moving West to East. The good news is that there should be a nice swell Thursday Morning with lite winds...so let´s paddle Kite Beach Cabarete

Big Storm heading towards Kite Beach Cabarete. Right now the Leading Edge of this huge Winter Storm just passed Havana Cuba and should hit Kite Beach Cabarete late tonite. These storms bring moisture first followed by massive surf. Here is how Big Winter Storms roll in North America and the Caribbean...they
1. move West to East
2. throw Huge Surf on the reefs of Hawaii
3. blanket the Mountains with snow
4. put the Midwest and North East into Deep Freeze
5. bring Massive Surf, Wind and rain to the Caribbean
So Hawaii is getting big surf right now...look for big wave action here in 7 days (notice the map at the 180 hour mark). If anyone wants to learn how to paddle board small waves...this is the time...not next week...let me know!

Wow...lot quality SUP action for Kite Beach Cabarete...wind was slight off shore...channels were wide open and Surf was cranking!
Not many guys out...just a bit large for the normal guys...these days it was all about selection and the drop!

A Big Winter Blast late this weekend and early into next week should bring quality SUP Wave action to Kite Beach Cabarete. Look for lite Trade Winds Friday Evening before this Big Winter Low displaces our trade winds as it moves South of Bermuda. Expect Quality Wave Action Late Sunday into Monday with the Swell holding through the week. There is a good chance of wind and rain especially Sunday and beyond. The organized kiter should be able to get quality kite boarding as this storm races across the North Shore of the Dominican Republic. Kiters should look for strong Clearing winds early next week. This storm should be 60-40 SUP to Kite Storm. Looks like wave hights will be big enough for the SUP CUP to happen! Shooters and Big Wave Riders should be ready

Ya, Gonzalo was a great SUP Storm...wind stayed extremely light and "Family Surf" rolled over the reef today, Sunday. Nice way to end a week of quality Paddle Boarding Action.
