Rihanna Sues over Leaks at USD7 Million LA-Area Home

Rihanna is suing over a hillside home that she claims has serious structural defects that rendered in uninhabitable. The pop singer on Wednesday sued Prudential California Realty and several companies that designed and inspected the home.

The "S&M" singer's lawsuit claims she would not have paid $6.9 million for the home in 2009 if she had known about the problems. She claims water leaked into several rooms of the house from a balcony that lacks the proper slope and drainage after a rainstorm in early 2010. The suit states the damage left the home "uninhabitable."

She claims Landmark Design Group, which remodeled the home, has failed to make necessary repairs. Landmark could not be reached for comment. Prudential spokeswoman Wendy Durand says the company does not comment on pending lawsuits.

Bollywood Bodyguards Reveal Life beside The Stars - They are an essential part of any Bollywood star’s entourage, silently shadowing their every move and keeping over-eager fans and a celebrity-obsessed media at a muscular arm’s length.

Now several of the increasing number of bodyguards working for A-list Hindi-language film stars have stepped into the limelight to speak about their duties, as a new movie on the subject is released.

The focus of attention has been a well-built Sikh nicknamed Shera (Tiger), who has been at action hero Salman Khan’s side for the last 15 years and is accompanying him on promotional tours for Khan’s new movie “Bodyguard”.

“If anyone fires a bullet at him, I will stand in front of it and sacrifice my life for him. I love him to that extent,” broad-shouldered Shera, who is in his early 40s, told reporters this week.

“In the last 15 years, Salman-bhai has done so much for me,” he added. "Bhai” is Hindi for “brother” and is often used between close friends.

The feeling is reciprocated by Khan, who plays a bodyguard for Kareena Kapoor in the movie, a remake of the 2010 Malayalam-language film of the same name. Shera — real name Gurmeet Singh Jolly — has been with Khan through the best of times and the worst of times, including a drink-driving case in 2002 and when Khan was jailed for a week in 2006 for killing endangered animals.

In a sign of his loyalty, Khan opted to use the badge and uniform of Shera’s own firm, Tiger Security, in the film despite lucrative offers from a number of leading private security companies. “I trust Shera completely with everything in my life, be it my money or even my women,” joked the 45-year-old actor recently.

“If he ever decides to write a biography on me, I’m finished. He is the man whom I fear the most because he knows everything about me.” Bollywood stars inspire a fanatical following in India, making security staff as much of a requirement as an agent or a personal stylist.

While most fans are well-behaved, Kashinath Karmatkar, who works for megastar Amitabh Bachchan, said some can overstep the mark. “Many times fans go crazy when they see stars face-to-face and they try to approach them closely,” he said at a publicity event for “Bodyguard”.

“It’s at that time we have to be very careful to prevent them from coming close to the actor and at the same time see that the fans don’t get hurt by our behaviour.” Hearthrob actor John Abraham has said he is rarely mobbed in Mumbai and is left to get on with his daily routine. But it is a different story elsewhere in India.

“I once walked into a Jaipur ATM and couldn’t come out,” he wrote on his web site last year. “By the time I had finished, there was a very committed Rajput ATM guard, who was trying to protect me from a very noisy mob of followers.”

Female fans have pinched and even scratched him on other occasions, he has said. Bachchan, star of some of the biggest hits of the 1970s, has long used bodyguards, who work so closely with actors that they often feel part of the family.

“The Big B” still has a huge following, with hordes of fans regularly camping outside his north Mumbai home just to catch a glimpse of him.

But the trend only really took off in the 1990s, when underworld figures tried to establish a stranglehold on the industry, and actors, producers and directors frequently received threats. Bollywood’s unarmed bodyguards now largely work at crowd control, with the bonus of accompanying stars at home and abroad.

For men like Yuvraj Ghorpade, who left school with few qualifications at age 16, the job has provided him with undreamed-of opportunities. “The future was dark for me as I was doing odd jobs for survival until I decided to join Ace Security nine years ago,” said Ghorpade, who has been a keen bodybuilder since his teens and is now in his 30s.

“Today, I am the bodyguard for (the actor-producer-director) Aamir Khan and many of my friends are envious of the fact that I roam with such a big celebrity all the time.”

Microsoft Designed Software for Phones to Track Customers - Microsoft allegedly tracks the location of its mobile customers even after users request that tracking software be turned off, according to a new lawsuit.

The proposed class action, filed in a Seattle federal court on Wednesday, says Microsoft intentionally designed camera software on the Windows Phone 7 operating system to ignore customer requests that they not be tracked. A Microsoft representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

The lawsuit comes after concerns surfaced earlier this year that Apple's iPhones collected location data and stored it for up to a year, even when location software was supposedly turned off. Apple issued a patch to fix the problem.

However, the revelation prompted renewed scrutiny of the nexus between location and privacy.

At a hearing in May, U.S. lawmakers accused the tech industry of exploiting location data for marketing purposes -- a potentially multibillion-dollar industry -- without getting proper consent from millions of Americans.

The lawsuit against Microsoft cites a letter the company sent to Congress, in which Microsoft said it only collects geolocation data with the express consent of the user.

'Microsoft's representations to Congress were false,' the lawsuit says.

The litigation, brought on behalf of a Windows Phone 7 user, claims Microsoft transmits data -- including approximate latitude and longitude coordinates of the user's device -- while the camera application is activated.

It seeks an injunction and punitive damages, among other remedies. The case in U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington is Rebecca Cousineau, individually on her own behalf and on behalf of all others similarly situated v. Microsoft Corp., 11-cv-1438.

Reporter Stages Own Rape to Cure Traumatic Event - (WGHP) - Mac McClelland, a civil rights reporter for motherjones.com, reportedly staged her own rape after witnessing the impact of an alleged rape of a woman in Haiti following the catastrophic 2010 earthquake.

Mac McClelland, 31, couldn't shake the image of Sybille, a woman who said she had been raped at gunpoint and mutilated following the earthquake in Haiti. While on assignment last September, McClelland told ABC she accompanied Sybille to the hospital when she claims the woman saw her attackers and went into a "a full paroxysm -- wailing, flailing" in terror.

According to ABC, following the event, McClelland became progressively enveloped in the classic symptoms of post-traumatic stress -- avoidance of feelings, flashbacks and recurrent thoughts that triggered crying spells.

A spokesman for police in the Caribbean state of Quintana Roo says staff at the prison in Chetumal noticed that the woman seemed nervous and was pulling a black, wheeled suitcase that looked bulky.

Spokesman Gerardo Campos said Monday that prison guards checked the bag of 19-year-old Maria del Mar Arjona and found inmate Juan Ramirez Tijerina curled up inside in the fetal position.

Obama tries to stop execution in Texas of Mexican killer - (The Guardian) - President Barack Obama is attempting to block the execution in Texas on Thursday of a Mexican man because it would breach an international convention and do "irreparable harm" to US interests.

The White House has asked the US supreme court to put the execution of Humberto Leal Garcia on hold while Congress passes a law that would prevent the convicted rapist and murderer from being put to death along with dozens of other foreign nationals who were denied proper access to diplomatic representation before trials for capital crimes.

The administration moved after the governor of Texas, Rick Perry, brushed aside appeals from diplomats, top judges, senior military officers, the United Nations and former president George W Bush to stay Leal's execution because it could jeopardise American citizens arrested abroad as well as US diplomatic interests.

Leal, 38, was convicted in 1994 of the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in San Antonio. Few question that he was responsible for the killing but the Texas authorities failed to tell Leal, who was born in Mexico and has lived in the US since the age of two, that under the Vienna convention he was entitled to contact the Mexican consulate when he was arrested.

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) — Miss South Carolina is telling people a pretty big secret. She lost 110 pounds before taking the beauty pageant crown.

Miss Capital City Bree Boyce won the crown Saturday. The 22-year-old from Florence will compete for the Miss America title in Las Vegas in January.

Boyce has done several interviews holding up the size 18 pair of jeans she used to wear, saying she wants to inspire people to lose weight. She is especially proud that she won a preliminary swimsuit competition.

Boyce's talent was singing "Tu Tu Piccola Iddio," and she had to do it twice because of technical difficulties on her first attempt.

Caitlen Patton of Summerville won the Miss South Carolina Teen crown.

As quoted from The Register, Wednesday (6/7/2011), the domain co.cc is not an official second level domain of co.UK, .com .au, co. ID. Domain co.cc offered independently by Korea (http://co.cc/). Google's own clasify firm co.cc as ' freehost '.

"If we look today a lot of sites on the freehost containing spam, or of low quality," said Matt Cutts, Web Spam Team at Google.

"To help protect users, recently we modify malware-scanning system at Google," added Cutts.

According to the latest report from the Anti-Phishing Working Group, freehosting co.cc hosts some phishing attacks 4.963/spam in the second half of the middle of 2010. Create domain co.cc is also free.

Co. cc claim that they have registered the domain 11.383.736 and 5.731.278 user accounts, making it one of the largest domain in the world, bigger than a .org and .UK.

On Tuesday, he hosted media critic Bernard Goldberg to discuss it. And when O’Reilly brought up his just-concluded interview with Geraldo Rivera — in which Geraldo defended Anthony as a “good mother” — Goldberg went off.

“I wonder if Geraldo and others who think like Geraldo would be so open minded if let’s say a militia man in Arizona was accused of killing a Hispanic immigrant, and the evidence was similar to this case — a mountain of circumstantial evidence,” he said. “You think Geraldo Rivera would go on the air and talk to you the way he did?”

Understanding that the question was loaded, and there’s really no non-controversial way to answer it, O’Reilly responded, “I really can’t answer that.”

Goldberg did: “I don’t think he would speculate that maybe this person did it, maybe she’s crazy, maybe this, maybe that. This is ridiculous.”
