i grew up playing with some pretty random toys. mostly my older brother’s leftovers. i remember his stained ET doll that i adopted and loved, nerf footballs with patches of missing foam from rough play, a jar of blue marbles i got from my dad for my 6th christmas, rc cars that we’d race down our driveway, and the shiny marvel cards i slowly stole from his collection (sorry guh, if it’s any consolation, i only stole the girl characters). life was so simple back then. now, hype, brands, and technology consume us. i remember back in college, i waited in line at best buy for 2 freakin days just to get the ps3. and for what?! obviously my brain was hijacked by alcohol during those 4 years so every dumb decision i made must be blamed on sir jack daniels.

the “first world problems” meme is, by far, one of my favorites. i catch myself complaining but, literally, every “problem” i have is a first world problem which, shouldn’t even be a problem to begin with. looking back on how easily pleased i was as a kid and how happy i was with even the most simple things makes me further appreciate everything i have now. whether it’s a jar of marbles or a collection of toy cameras, i’ll always remember to be grateful.

neglect

i’m feeling all jittery from the starbucks. jitters make me contemplate and at the moment i’m thinking about how huge my forehead pimple is and if i should pop it. on a deeper note, i’m thinking about neglect…in a positive light. what thrives on neglect? cacti, mold, hair, dandelions, people trying to be independent? when a mom neglects, or less harshly, does not smother/micromanage her teen, they gain freedom and a sense of self. some might think the kid will grow up to have issues but dude…tough love. so, neglect could be a good thing (besides the mold). i’m not quite sure why i’m even thinking about this. it’s friday…i’m running on 4 hours of sleep…staring at the aged balsamic vinegar on my table tempted to take a shot…now i’m salivating…and using too many ellipses. don’t listen to me…have a great weekend.

side note…the look of neglect is pretty much embedded into dozer’s features. case in point, below. with those wrinkles and downward slanting eyebrows, it’s unavoidable. but i swear to you, i smother him with love and affection. maybe a little too much but i have the upper hand since he can’t express his annoyance.

gettin’ this sucker serviced and repaired! finally! for some reason, the shutter is stuck and won’t advance. after tons of research, it could be anything…i’m suspecting some sort of magnet issue. i picked this beauty up on craigslist last year and only after about 6 rolls, it conked out oh how i miss shooting film… hopefully john, the super nice and honest camera repairman from digitech, can fix it. took me a while to justify spending more on repairs than what i bought it for…it’ll all be worth it when i get to develop beautiful photos.

the imperial peacock march

my playlist is on its usual random, all of a sudden john williams’ imperial march comes on and instinctively, i turn it up. dozer wakes up and gives me an annoyed snort but i could care less. i envision darth vader and feel all amped so i think to myself, man, i want to do something crazy right now. that moment of craziness is short-lived as soon as i see it’s 2:20am and i, all of a sudden, feel super granny. i decide to do the next best thing, pour me a glass of pinot and edit some photos from last week’s grow festival at the arboretum. i’m livin on the wild side baby! if i had to pay full price for this “festival” i’d be a tad annoyed. the only cool thing about it were some cute succulents, peacocks, the grilled cheese truck, and $5 hefs. we get a mild buzz goin’ and it’s all good. the peacocks were most entertaining…especially the ones doin their bird calls to the ladies. brrrr! brrrrrrrr!!!! actually, peacocks sound more like crying cats. too bad none of them got what they were looking for…better luck next time!!

p.s. i originally felt all daring (thanks, john williams) and thought it’d be cool to edit my peacock photo black and white…and then i realized ~~i’m a wuss~~ it was blasphemy to leave out such gorgeous color.

OC Wedding: Lindsay + Jimmy

their day was stunning. the weather was perfect. laughter filled every room, and perhaps, just a bit of pre-wedding jitters. you might remember lindsay and jimmy from their adorable disneyland engagement session. as they were getting ready for the big day, tiff and i jumped from one room to the other capturing their preparation. how different the moods were! jimmy hung out with his groomsmen while cracking jokes, eating pizza, and sipping on whiskey. such men. he proceeded to get ready in what seemed like ten minutes and i couldn’t help but feel slightly envious as i wish i could get ready that fast and look that good. several floors down, lindsay and her beautiful bridesmaids started early but spent some time perfecting the finishing touches, as women always do. then they huddled around the sofa to do what we do best – some girl talk. chatting about life and love, these emotions prepared lindsay for the day she’d marry her best friend.

their wedding was held at the turnip rose promenade & gardens in costa mesa. who would have thought there was such a cute venue in the heart of oc? lindsay and jimmy, thank you for letting us be a part of your wedding. seeing the way you looked at each other throughout the entire day made me feel so happy and appreciative that we were there to capture it.
