In an earlier article I shamelessly admitted that for the most part, I had to ignore my garden and what a good weed suppressor was my herbs. [grammar?] Anyway, later in the year I had more time so I decided - HEY! This would be a good time to dry some mint. Earlier in the year, mint was growing abundantly, tall, and leafy. Well, that was all gone. What happens to vigorous unpicked mint? I'll show you in a minute.

TOC Planner V2

This is my second TOC Planner layout for the elementary or pre-junior high books that are published by Apologia Educational Ministries, Inc and authored by Jeannie Fulbright. I had previously made the layout as shown in the TOC Planner article but I had doubts that the first layout would work well for this particular curriculum. I was not sure if the second layout idea was a good one either, so I bought one of Fulbright's books ...

Lesson Two Drawing from Graphics - Drawing with Children [4]

I have written a review, or overview, and a possible schedule for Lesson Two Drawing from Graphics from the book, Drawing With Children. At first I thought this chapter was going to be difficult to plan, but it's not - once a person really understands exactly what this chapter is about.

The chapter is about planning compositions with overlapping objects, observing the effects of coloring, texture and shading, and including the feeling/action of the subject in the drawing such as leaping lion and swaying grass.

I also added to the lessons page a couple of printables that are really not needed, but they are there if a person wants to use them for art class.

Toc Planner [2]

This is a TOC Planner. The image shows a draft copy with my notes. A TOC Planner has the table of contents in tables so the person making lesson plans can write notes for each part of the book. That is how I made lesson plans some of the time.

Yesterday I decided to make TOC Planners for all of the Apologia science books. They are not as easy to make as one would think and if possible, I am included the lab supply list. So far, I have made only three.

I have not linked the planners at DY yet. I will have to code a new page for them. I will probably place them under their own subcategory, "TOC Planners" in the Science > Apologia Science part of the menu right next to Co-op.

The TOC Planners are several pages long with at least one page devoted to each chapter and some chapters taking two pages. I am creating these files in Microsoft Word so if the length is a problem, you can cut them down as much as you need before printing.

I would link the 3 that I have, but my blog isn't a file linking place. You will have to wait. So far, I have finished TOC Planners for Zoology 1, Astronomy, and Botany.
Fixed Width or Fluid Width [3]

Using fixed width pages or fluid pages, that is one thing every web site designer has to decide. For reference, this page is fixed width and most of donnayoung.org is fluid. Fluid pages fill the screen or shrink, fixed stay the same width. Most web sites use fixed width pages.

I had been going toward fixed width at DY and most of the newest pages were fixed, but today, I changed my mind because, frankly, I do not like fixed width pages. The blogs are fixed and they will probably stay that way, but the rest of DY should now be fluid.

In css fixed looks something like this:
body{width:960px;}
Note the unit, it's not flexible.

Fluid looks like this:
body{width:95%;}
Percentage is flexible. This size adjusts itself to 95% of your screen size.

It is possible to make a semi fixed width by setting a max and min width. I tried that before and I didn't like it for my web site. Anyway, this isn't a css or web design lesson, this is just me talking about work.
