As a trained web designer I have been looking for an outlet to streamline my Ideas and creative content. This has been an internal struggle that I have yet to conquer. On many levels this is due to trying to accomplish too much at once, but similarly it is due to not doing enough to get what I want. I had to settle in my own mind and imagination the direction in which I choose to go. At first I felt as though I needed to do everything to be successful. I now know that too much is just as debilitating as too little. I have over the years loved to write and create for a very select and limited audience, mostly for my close friends, family, and myself. With Don’s Rant I felt I could deliver to the masses this lead to an over-arrogant ambush of spam to my friends and family when my goal was a calm collective treasure of opinion and intellect. The new Don’s Rant looks to collect my thoughts and opinions and advertise through other media and social-networking techniques.

This brings me to the next point. My goal with Don’s Rant is to act as a template of design and experience derived from my on-going efforts to learn and create media using WordPress. My next journey will bring me to the world of professional WordPress development. I have decided to start a design studio using WordPress as the basis for my creations. WordPress is known for its easy blogging interface and its ability to double as a full content management system. This is where I ask you the reader to consider my idea. Do you have a need for a website or blog? If so I am your man. I can be reached at dsilvernail@donsrant.com. In the coming days I will be launching a business website to broadcast my skills and services to the world. Thank you all for your support and confidence.

Hello fans of Don’sRant.com. I wanted to take a moment to apologize for my lack of content updates. My webhost, GoDaddy.com has been horrible. They have also not been very accommodating to my needs when requesting service. Migrating the domain to another host is a little tedious so I will be my blog here for the foreseeable future. This is not the primary issue. My next project requires some pretty advanced web design and this host just cannot handle it.

At this time I would like to let you all in on my next project. Through the years I have written many poems and short stories. I have only shared these glimpses to my imagination with the closest of friends and family. It is my next endeavor to publish these writings on a new webpage I have been working on. This site will also be home to my most ambitious project to date. This project will be a serial novel set in the not t0o distant future. The world is in disarray and an alien race has come to take advantage of earth disposition. There will be action, blood, guts, and gore. This story tells of an epic war fought to retain the freedoms from an oppressive species from another planet. Sure it is cliché…but it is my first attempt at literary greatness. More will be unveiled as the weeks move along. My expected launch date is April 1st. It will be my goal to write two to three chapters a week, so even I will not know the end of the story until it is written.

I plan on writing this story for close to a year with a few breaks here and there. Your feedback will be of most importance to the outcome of the story as I would like to take suggestions from readers to give my book depth and personal feel. When the story is over I hope to self publish both in paperback and pdf format.

One last note. If any of you would like to help with the artistic direction of the website your help would be greatly appreciated. I am able to build websites but I do not draw very well and graphics and backdrops would be great. I would also like to implement a flash movie to open the site.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement,

Sincerely,

Don Silvernail

I have to wonder sometimes, if we still take terrorism seriously. It is easy for those in power to come up to a podium or “teleprompter” and condemn an act of terrorism. Does that really do anything if the words do not come with conviction? Where is the resolve a leader should posses when protecting the people from foreign threats? Janet Napolitano director of homeland security believes that when ordinary citizens are successful in thwarting a terrorist attack, that “the system in place is working” Well gee… I guess if I it is necessary we would all do what needs to be done. Is that protection though? Would you rely on me when some guy on a plane decides to light his balls on fire?

In the last 2 months there has been one major terrorist attack at Fort Hood, and a multitude of other planned or possible attacks thwarted. Today 5 envelopes were sent to different cities in Alabama, all containing white powder. They did not test positive for anthrax but what if they did. Where is our leadership tacking responsibility. Terrorism has become a dirty word. We now call terror attacks man-made disasters.

Let me tell you something, If a man shits his pants in the middle of a subway car that is a man-made disaster. Lining ones balls with explosives and trying to light them on fire in a plane TERRORIST ATTACK! Lying to your wife about sleeping around with different women while she chases you into a fire hydrant with a golf club…. man- made disaster, Shooting 30+ fellow soldiers killing 13 while yelling “Allahu Akbar” TERRORIST ATTACK!

Please Mr. President, understand we do not need a complete overhaul of our healthcare system. We don’t need the government to take over 1/6th of our economy. Mr. President, we need you to guide this country into safety and from economic collapse. Terrorism does not just happen with a deadly disaster but also economically as well. If one wants to destroy the prosperity of this country it is only necessary to raise our energy prices above affordability. Such as the great oil price spike of 2008. Mr. President, that’s called CYBER TERRORISM!

As 2010 draws near it becomes hard to reflect, so much of what is 2009 will be left behind in a forgotten tomb. Our accomplishments… the first black president is inaugurated. The sour taste in our mouths…. every piece of legislation this first black president jammed down our throats. Oh wait a minute, it was so fast I did not get a chance to taste it, but we all know what it feels like when it comes out.
My overall distaste? The disrespect for the taxpayer by both the administration and the state run media. In a total of 18 months the taxpayers own A.I.G., G.M., and Chrysler, and untold amount of small to large banks many of which were forced to take bailout money. Whatever happened to private property rights, free markets, and entrepreneurial spirit. When a company fails it should do just that… fail. Using tax payer money to prop up failing businesses not only sets a bad president but also puts that tax payer at risk.
What do I think of as I leave 2009 behind. Terrorists are still trying to bomb our planes as we experienced on Christmas day, Tiger Woods is a liar and a cheat. Celebrities are dropping like flies. Politicians have a blatant disregard for both tax payers and tax dollars while promoting the welfare state in the name of healthcare. We have a timetable to leave Afghanistan. Water boarding is torture. Bill Clinton can still get more done in one day in North Korea than Obama could get done with over 1000 appearances on our TV’s. And with so much put into stature of The United States around the world every single one of those other countries still hate us and capitalism.
Good bye 2009, Thank you for all the fond memories!

Every now and again I like to return back to my youth. Well ok almost everyday. Nothing can help acheve this better than listening to a great 90′s band such as Smashing Pumkins. In my opinion Siamese Dream accomplishes what every great rock album should. Explosive guitras that trend into dreamy melodies, Grinding chords that rock the soul, lyrics that tame the heart, and drums the relinquish the beast from within. Smashing Pumkins does all this and more. From “Quiet’s” slamming guitars to “Todays” blissful melodies this album just rocks. Not to mention some of the best post 80′s rock anthems to date such as “Spaceboy”, “Disarm”, and “Soma” I give this album 5 out of 5 stars. And this is what Don is listening to now!

I recently come across a blog from a University of North Carolina student. It is of no surprise that the youth of America want action from our representatives it is what they are asking for that draws some concern. Brinkley Hutchings one of 100,000 protesters to march in Copenhagen amidst talks of climate negotiations. During a question and answer session with Secretary of Energy Steven Chu the U.S. youth pondered such questions as “why the U.S. is not matching to scientific demands, why we aren’t taking leadership at this conference, and why we are dragging the rest of the world down to our low level of ambition.” In another post Brinkley talks about meeting an activist from Sweden, she states “I usually get a little embarrassed when I say I’m from the U.S. to a foreign activist because I feel guilty for our country’s poor leadership in environmental issues.”

The blog goes on and on demeaning our country in terms of pollution control. I have to think to myself, why under such critical economic times would educated people want to spend money for underdeveloped nations to reduce greenhouse pollution. It makes no sense that this is the single most important issue to most liberal college students. Their brewing minds should be used to help solve economic turmoil not help indoctrinate those into the global warming hoax. This people, is what liberal institutions are teaching our children. Once everyone thinks that cute little polar bear is going to die because they drive an SUV… I guess there is no turning back even if scientific data proves otherwise. The damn polar bears are doomed. So is the SUV!

In other news related… Brinkely must be excited now that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced the U.S. will be more than happy if other rich nations agree to donate 100 billion a year to underdeveloped nations to reduce greenhouse gas emmisions. According to the ultra left, liberal,Huffington Post “Clinton says that the financing is contingent on world leaders reaching a broader climate pact at the U.N. talks in Copenhagen”

This is exactly what I thought would happen yesterday. While I am sure the richer nations of the world will contribute to the fund…they are all waiting for us to give more. The reality is they wont give unless we do. So why do it? It is not our responsibility to lead underdeveloped nations toward full embrace of the global warming hoax. Here in America we should be trying to solve our own problems such as Energy, Taxes, Health Care, and Obama. Lets add Biden in for good measure. He always gives me a good laugh.

on Dec 16, 1773 the colonists in Boston Massachusetts, refused to return 3 ships full of taxed tea back to the British government. Colonists boarded the three ships and began throwing it overboard into the Boston Harbor. These events sparked the American Revolution. The colonists were pissed that there were not seated elected representatives giving the right to tax such goods as tea.

Today we remember those who gave birth to the American Way with protests against our current governments over spending and increases deficits. In Tyler, TX demonstrators wore costumes and carried authentic flags from 1773. Many Tea parties were held across the country today including Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia.
