If you come to the WINTER WRITING RETREAT you will get to meet Mike.

He's a gem. I met Mike in the 90's when I was sent off to the woods to be a camp counselor. He was much more outdoorsy than me. He taught me how to identify poison ivy and how to collect kindling and how to build a fire. A lot of time has passed since those halcyon days in the woods, but Mike and I have reconnected via facebook and I have learned that he is starting the THE CAMP BUTLER!

How cool?

Here is a bit about his biz:

"Imagine arriving at a campground after your long week at work to find a tent set up, the fire blazing, gourmet coffee waiting and all of your time to concentrate on relaxing in the great outdoors."

Camp Butler has a full range of services from simply setting up your site to a "full service" experience including guided nature hikes, campfire songs and training on lost frontier skills.

AND WE GET HIM FOR THE WEEKEND. he is cooking + teaching!

SHREK the musical {Columbus- NOW}

I had the pleasure of taking my kiddos to see "Shrek The Musical"this week at The Ohio Theatre !
So. Shrek.
We all love this movie and I also loved the show.

The story is quickly told in two acts {but man. I wish they would have a 7pm show instead of 8pm as it makes for a late night} that keep the little ones engaged and smiling and laughing.
I liked the antics between Shrek + Donkey a lot.
It was evident that the actors love what they are doing!

The music was great and some of the highlights included the AMAZING dragon puppet and the songs with Fiona at different ages. We also LOVED the story development of the fairy tale characters. It was a very nice lesson told about individuality and the "Freak Flag" scene is perfect. There is some adult type humor that is written in and seemed to fly over the heads of my preschooler and elementary aged kid. Lord Farquaad is a real hoot and I laughed during his scenes. It's a big show. It's fun. Try a matinee though as it is very late!

Take thee kiddos to see this.
It's only here through the 15th! Go!

When? Friday, February 10th through Sunday, February 12th, 2012.
Where? Geneva Hills in Lancaster, Ohio – a little taste of Appalachia.

Why? Because every writer needs a weekend. And an experience.
How? Fly into Columbus Int. Airport and we’ll drive down together. We’ve got The Camp Butler who will teach us camping essentials and make us awesome camp inspired meals. All meals are included in the bargain price of $149. What!?!? I know, right?
Think of it more as an advance than a retreat. It’s a chance to brainstorm with other writerly types, produce some pages and share some work. And it all happens in one brief weekend getaway to the always underrated hills of Southeastern Ohio. February 10th – Arrive by 4PM at Columbus Int. Airport. Ride to accommodations in the woods.
February 11th – Lots of writing and private consultations – everyone gets a private consult with Amy and a private coaching sesh with Amanda.
February 12th – More writing, portfolio planning and completion. Back on the road to the airport at noon.
