I think I've said this a few times...we have the best customers on the planet. Some of you have been with us since we started over ten years ago, and we can't get over how good you've been to us. Things are going to be changing a lot at Doodlekins when the new site launches, but one thing I can promise is we will always give you the CARE in customer care. It's heartfelt, always will be.

Today, Jennifer D'Andrea, a longtime customer, wrote to us about a future label purchase. She and her husband lost Fenway, one of their three dogs. The story and photograph she shared reminded us that we can all do a little good for people, even with cartoon labels. She was kind enough to let us share this with you. (Click the photo below to enlarge.)

I wanted to make sure everyone has the opportunity to have an angel if they need one. The halo accessory isn't just for a doodle that has passed on. A lot of folks use them in conjunction with the Halloween devil horn headband on pets and children to show them as angels and devils. Really adorable; you guys are so creative, it amazes us every time!

So, if you want the halo to very clearly represent a doodle that has passed on, we can turn them into angels. It's not something we offer on the current site, although it will be on the new site someday, you just have to request it in the cart's special request box. We put a little blue sky and cloud background behind the doodle, and add hearts, too. Dogs get tiny bones around them as well.

We hope to continue improving our products so they fit your family's story and lifestyle. Never hesitate to ask for something special, or make a suggestion. We're here for you, whether you're newlyweds, unmarried, or married for decades, whether you're a family with one mom or two, whether you have human kids or fur-kids, or even fin-kids! (Yes, some of our families really love their fish, so, we love them too!)

I've been so caught up in getting the new site on it's feet this past year, there's been little time for much else. As a result, I've really neglected the blog, and will try to do better. I've missed seeing our family album pages grow -- let's work on that together!

There are so many social networking places to keep up with these days, and I'm not sure you need so much information about Doodlekins, 24/7! I've broken it down so you understand what each is for, that way you can pick your favorite ways of being involved.

FACEBOOK - product/company news, special offers, polls, and other fun
If you want up-to-the-minute everything Doodlekins, this is your spot. We post anything happening here first. Although we do occasionally post non-Doodlekins things like holiday fun and charitable orgs, it's mostly all related to Doodlekins. The only downside is you may not always see us if you "Like" a lot of folks and/or aren't on it all the time. The newsletter comes to you, whereas you have to come to Facebook.

TWITTER - chat, tweets about food & misc, posts from Facebook are linked, special offers
This is the most relaxed, interactive place to be in touch with Doodlekins. When you follow us, you'll see any specials we have on Facebook because they are linked. We also tweet other things our followers are up to, so it's often off-topic in relation to Doodlekins. So, if you're a big Twitter person, you could skip Facebook, but, if you follow a lot of tweeps, it's easy to miss us, so you might want to pair this with our newsletter.

OUR BLOG - contests, customer photos, helpful tips, in-depth news and announcements
Kind of a little home-away-from-home at our dot com, a gathering place if you will. It's really for the most dedicated Doodlekinsers, true fans who love sharing their Doodlekins with other families. I post in-depth articles about the company, and we run contests here. It's a hub!

PINTEREST - customer photos and other fun
This is our latest, and rapidly becoming my favorite -- I really enjoy creating pins and boards! You have to go to Pinterest to know what I'm talking about. It's quick to learn, and so much fun. Add your family, wedding or new baby pics to the "Our Customers!" board, and repin to your heart's content. We Tweet any pertinent pins, as well as a lot of food and other fun pins. Highly recommend!

NEWSLETTER - delivered to you so you never miss a new product, important sale or special offer
I try not to send newsletters unless we have something really good to share. If you purchase Doodlekins, you need the newsletter, period. If you pair this with Facebook you'll have your essentials down! The Doodlekins Dish sign up is on the home page, to the left of the address label slideshow.

If you just want one, Facebook is probably the way to go, but if you're not always there, our newsletter ensures you never miss a big promotion because it's delivered straight to your e-mailbox!

The perfect combination is at least three: Facebook or Twitter PLUS Pinterest or our blog, PLUS our newsletter. Hope that makes it a little simpler for ya!

We're really excited about Easter this year because of our great new personalized treat and favor bags! They are brand new, and I have to say, one of the nicest products we offer. There were so many "oohs" and "aaahs" when we first saw them! It's hard to tell from the photograph, but the colors are so rich printed on these bags, and have such a nice gloss. The look and feel of these bags is delicious; I absolutely adore them and know you will too!

So many ways to decorate the bags, too. You can seal them by folding the top over and then punching two holes you can tie a ribbon through, or you can even do fancy edge and hole punches along the top and seal or not seal!

Kid's Art Contest: TWO new Storymaker images!

I love being on Twitter. If you don't have an account, you've got to get one. You make so many new friends! My circle includes a great group of child experts who share tips from food and nutrition to how to talk to your teens and tweens, and so much more. Among these great people are doctors, like Lynne Kenney, a child psychiatrist. She came up with a great idea - a kid's art contest!

Dr. Kenney posted about it on her website, and had the contest in January with her art students. It was great! You've got to see the photos of the kids participating, here. We had decided to have two winners; one that would be random from all entries, and one chosen by us, that would become part of the Doodlekins Storymaker library. Forever part of our history!

Our random winner was 4th grader Katarina. She drew an adorable little yellow taxi cab! The random winner wasn't supposed to have their art added to our collection, but as it turned out, it was so cute we decided to include it. Katarina's taxi will represent customers who live in big cities, and we are sure it will be a big hit!

Katarina's original artwork on the left. We traced it and edited a few things to simplify the drawing because it has to be very small on labels. Next, we added a city background, inspired by Katarina's street with the white lines. Can you believe she's a 4th grader??? Wow! Well, now she's also a professional artist! Look for "City" in our Storymakers.

Our grand prize winner, whose art was chosen by Doodlekins to be in our Storymaker library, was 6th grader, Katrina. She did this amazing little flower! We thought that it was so versatile; great as a pretty decoration to add for any reason, but also to represent spring, summer, weddings, gardening, and more. Customers can custom color the petals to match their stationery theme!

Doodlekins Art Contest Grand Prize Winner, 6th grader, Katrina! The minute we saw the flower, we knew it would work. We traced it, added some grass and a smiley face, and "Flower" was born! Katrina, now a professional artist, gave us the perfect Storymaker that so many customers will enjoy using for a variety of ocassions and reasons.

We had great fun with this and are looking forward to doing it again. Children can gain so much from art. Whether it's a future career or just a pastime that brings them peace and serenity, art is something every child can enjoy and learn from. Being able to express yourself is so important, at any age!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and Hannukah, and anything else you celebrate! It was terribly hectic this season here at Doodlekins, with the new site being launched at the same time. Just when I thought I'd be getting some rest, it looks as though there will be a little more chaos as we bring back the old site temporarily, due to issues with the new one. The good old site is just like you remember, works ok!

The reason we created the site was to make your experience a fantastic one, and it's been more frustrating than fabulous for some. So, we'll get things working just right, and bring it back when it's ready. We still owe you a "save and share" feature, where you can post your creations on Facebook and Twitter, too! There's lots more in store...like the rest of our products, too!

DoodleDee & The Family Factory!

Our little DoodleDees are hard at work organizing and tidying up the Workshop and Showroom in the new Family Factory. Everything is pretty hush-hush as they work under tight security (example above!) to get the exciting new website ready for the millions of visitors they're expecting.

As it turns out, though, they need your help! Although they've been trying to think of every last detail, they're sure they've missed something only a customer could spot. So, the DoodleDee CEO has come up with an idea...

You and your family (the kids - and maybe even the husbands - will LOVE the new site!) could win one of five golden tickets to enter the new Doodlekins site before anyone else does and create a FREE set of 150 labels!

This is a rare opportunity to help the DoodleDees shape the site and make it amazing for you and your fellow customers.

Requirements:

We are scheduling the Family Factory tour Wednesday, 12/8. 5 winners will be given special access to the site on that day and will need to spend at least 30 minutes testing all features both on the site as well as in the Workshop, between 8am and 2pm Eastern time.
You can be an existing customer or never shopped with us before, live in the USA or Canada.
We ask that you record your experiences in an email, and create a list of any issues or concerns you see, and provide this before 3pm Eastern time on Wednesday.
On the main part of the site, you will be recording links that don't work or instructions you don't understand.
Most of your time would be spent in the Workshop, where you will create your family labels. You should list any difficulties you experience choosing accessories or sizing the characters, anything confusing about the design process, and anything you think needs improvement in the functionality. We ask that you add/remove accessories, change colors, and try to trip up the design utility.
Once you have created your family labels, you will need to make a mock purchase and complete checkout through the cart to test it's functionality, but no credit card is necessary. As you complete the checkout process, we ask that you list any broken links, confusing instructions, or any failure in functionality.

Your report will be used to edit and fine tune the the site on Thursday for it's expected launch on Friday 12/10! And, you will have our DoodleDees undying gratitude and eternal love.

Site Revamp UPDATE (again!)

Hello Gang!

It's time to start ordering to be in time for Christmas labels and cards you'll be mailing and gifts like totebags that won't be on the new site right away; we're delayed with the launch again! (Quit laughing!) Does NASA have it this bad with their launches?? And they go to the moon!

Just pretend I never told you anything about a new site! Then you'll be pleasantly suprised when it happens! :)

Naw, we're almost there, but some features are not working the way we want them to and will cause too much confusion. We want this site to be even easier to use, not harder! So, our awesome team of programmers are fine tuning things like being able to add hats to your characters and then change the hat colors, all live, for you to see as you're doing it!! What a nice change that will be from the black and white characters, right?

So, for those who have been patiently waiting, you get my sincerest apologies and gratitude, but, if you've ever had contractors building a house for you, this is the situation we're in. :) And, even with all the delays, we are still launching with just TWO products - labels and cards - so if you need totebags, bag tags, tshirts, and any other stationery item in time for Christmas gifts, it's even more important you not wait for the new site.

I promise one thing. The wait is worth it! I LOVE the new site, it's everything you guys have ever asked for, and more! I've got a fun offer and announcement to follow. Stay tuned! Thanks again for putting up with our craziness. :)

Newly revamped site launch UDPATE!

Well gang, it was a year ago, then, 2 months ago, then 2 weeks ago, and then it came down to TODAY! And...it's not ready yet...:) We're expecting it to be next Monday or Tuesday instead, so it looks like we're putting the balloons away again!

We're really close - final edit stage, testing bugs, etc. The problem is, we need a few more days, but our programmers won't be working Thursday or Friday because of Thanksgiving. We don't want to launch on Wednesday in case there are site issues, and there won't be anyone to help you.

Now, since the current site is fully functional, if you are ordering from outside of the USA, I don't want you to wait if you're getting nervous and want to order labels or cards for Christmas now. You can always use the new site another time, or at least check it out and play with it when it launches!

AND, for all, if you want anything other than labels or cards in time for Christmas, you may want to go ahead and order on the current site too. In order to get the revamp live we will be opening with just those two items to start with. Totebags, the rest of the stationery, and all the rest of the product lineup will be added daily immediately afterwards, one by one.

Now, keep in mind, we aren't going to run out of anything, since they're custom printed! Wait as long as you feel comfortable with, we'll help by offering everyone 1 business day processing on the new site. But, if you like to order early for the holidays, we don't want to stress you out. We'll still be here the next time around!

Contest #3 ~ Sending love to Bears On Patrol

Most of you know that we are supporters of Bears On Patrol. They provide police officers with teddy bears to comfort frightened or traumatized young children in devastating situations. This is so important, not just to make a child's life a little easier at a critical time, but to foster good relations between law enforcement and their communities.

There are many ways you can show your support. Of course, monetary donations are a huge help, but, you can also start a chapter in your community, donate bears, host Miles the Traveling Bear, or even just give minutes of your time by telling others about BOPS.

This contest is all about spreading awareness for BOPS. In return for helping share them with as many of your friends and family as you can, hosting their mascot bear or donating, you can win "A Work of Heart", a zine created by Heather Crow Nelson, an avid supporter of BOPS and other charities. She composed a small booklet packed with information about charities she works with, her experiences, and listings of various orgs you can help, including BOPS. The booklets are charmingly handmade, printed in full color with lots of photos, and proceeds go towards the charities, so we were happy to buy them as prizes and think you'll enjoy reading them. The best part is how simple and fun she makes it feel to volunteer, and they would be great to share with children. There are no religious or political affiliations with any of the charities, they're great for everyone.

Please visit Bears On Patrol on facebook and familiarize yourself with their organization. If you like them, feel free to click the "Like" button and become a fan, but it's not necessary to win.

Hi Gang, it's me, Pete! I'm amazed at how much you guys support us, and humbled. You blew my mind this week, even surpassing 700, to reaching almost 720! Way to go. You really earned your discount!

I've missed you all and have lots of things planned for you today, so if anyone's having a rainy Saturday and bored at home, fear not! I've got my party hat on and am ready to paarteeeee!

After she did the hokey pokey and turned herself around, one of our talented designers chose three lucky winners with her eyes closed! Actually, we set her up with a random number generator so she didn't have to do all that, but we didn't tell her because it was more fun. ;-)
