TimeMachine v0.1

Dark_AleX has released TimeMachine v0.1, his latest creation that allows the use of the 1.50 kernel on the PSP Slim. As I expected it is not a full 1.50 kernel, but a hybrid 1.50/3.40 kernel, like what was done when he made screen display for Pandora on the PSP Slim.

Apart from that, TimeMachine can also load 3.40 OE and 3.60 M33. However, you will require a Pandora battery in order to use TimeMachine.

TimeMachine is able to load these firmwares even if the existing firmware on NAND is destroyed. Of course, your idStorage has to be intact. There are quite a number of bugs in the 1.50/3.40 hybrid firmware, but this should be used mainly for running 1.50 homebrew that previously could not run on the PSP Slim.

What's interesting: In the future it might be possible to load idStorage from the memory stick.

3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

This patch will use the 3.71 fatmsmod.prx even when using 3.80/3.90 M33 firmware. It has a larger cache and will read bigger blocks, which translates to a faster ISO/CSO loading time.

To get the 3.71 fatmsmod.prx, you will have to use PSARDumper with the official 3.71 EBOOT.PBP. Remember to press Circle to dump encrypted (to save space) and without sigcheck.

3.90 M33-2 is out.

Plugin loading code has been improved, so plugins should now load faster. Patches have also been made for the PSP Slim to allow the Time Machine's IPL loader to boot from NAND, aka 1.50 is coming to the PSP Slim soon.

Also, some changes to the network update code, so M33 firmware updates should download faster.

3.90 M33 is now out. You need to have 3.52 M33-3 or higher in order to use this update. The 1.50 kernel add-on for the old PSP is also out.

Another update for 3.80 M33-5 released. This one adds a useful function to turn off PIC0.PNG and PIC1.PNG while scrolling through the ISO list, which will speed up scrolling, as well as some bug fixes with regards to CPU speed in games.

A bunch of quick updates for the latest 3.80 M33 custom firmware.

Recommended update is to 3.80 M33-4 as it fixes the memory stick driver. It also lets you use the latest Popsloader for playing PSX games. Due to problems with the memory stick driver, either stay at 3.71 M33-4 or update all the way to 3.80 M33-4.

Just an add-on, number of updates for a firmware is not an indication of it's stability. There are only bugs, but not stability issues.

There are reported problems with the new memory stick driver that comes with firmware 3.80. Problems include unable to load ISOs, homebrew, or just general slowdowns in reading off the memory stick.

Here's a possible fix: Stop formatting your MSPDs in FAT16, and use the PSP to format it instead of doing it on the PSP. This means using FAT32 for 4GB and 8GB MSPDs.

Making a Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick (DCv3)

Updated since I have repeated this twice already and it's quite troublesome to type it all out.

You need an original Sony PSP/PSP Slim Battery and a original Memory Stick Pro Duo (256MB - 1GB will be enough)

First, follow this guide: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=75965

It has lots of pictures so it should be easy to follow =).

Follow it until STEP 16

Now you should have the same folders/files like in the picture: kd, PSP, registry (folders) and msipl.bin, UPDATE.PBP (files)

Delete the kd folder.

Download the universal unbricker (Despertar del Cemeterio v3): http://w14.easy-share.com/13022661.html

This will work for both old PSPs and PSP Slims, and it will install 3.71 M33-2 straight.

Inside the RAR there is a readme file, follow the instructions there, starting from the line "- Copy despertar_cementerio to PSP/GAME/" and ending at "- Now you can delete 340 and 150 PBP's, as they won't be used more; but 371.PBP will be used for unbricker, so don't delete it."

Just to check, you should now have the following folders/files on your memory stick:
kd, PSP, registry (folders) and msipl.bin, 371.PBP (files)

Any other file besides those can now be deleted.

Lastly, use this file to make the Pandora battery: http://w15.easy-share.com/13022801.html

Copy the ospbt_04 folder to /PSP/GAME, and run it from your PSP.

If you want, backup the EEPROM. This will let you convert your battery back to a normal one in the future.

Then select the service mode option to convert your battery into a Pandora battery. You can test that it's working by removing the battery and putting it back into your PSP. If the green light comes on automatically, the battery was converted correctly and it's now a Pandora battery.

To use it, put in the memory stick first, then put in the battery. For some reason there is no display on your screen, but to install 3.71 M33-2 just press X when the lights on the left of your PSP stop blinking. Once you press X the lights will start blinking again, wait until you are sure they have stopped before pressing X again, and the PSP should then shutdown. Only then is the update complete.

If the download links stop working, email me and I will fix it asap. Alternatively you can also try to Google for the file yourself.

This plugin from Dark_AleX will allow you to spoof the MAC address of your PSP. It goes one step further than previous "MAC Spoofers", as this time the MAC address of your PSP that is broadcast is actually changed. Previous MAC spoofers only edited the MAC address in idStorage, which only changes what is displayed in the System Information screen.

I can't see any use for this on the PSP as of yet, but you're welcome to try it out. Instructions for installation are provided in the readme file.

Note that the MAC address that you see under System Information will still be the same, but the one being broadcast will be changed.

3.71 M33-4 Released

Another update for 3.71 M33 has been released! 3.71 M33-4 finally brings the long-awaited multidisc support for PSX games. Now you'll be able to play those multi-disc games straight on the PSP. You no longer need to save your game before the disc change, use CWCheat to export to your PC, play it using a PC PSX emulator, and import the save file back to the PSP after the disc change portion.

In order to create the multi-disc PSX games, you will have to use the included popstation_md.exe. Currently it won't work with GUI programs, so if you want to create multi-disc PSX games you will have to use the commandline. It's quite simple, check out the readme inside the popstation_md folder to learn how to use it.

Not only can you now play multi-disc games, you can even compile different games together into one EBOOT! In order to load up a different disc, simply select "Reset Game" in the HOME menu and then select the disc you want to load.

Oops, I missed the v4.5 update. But anyway, it's at v4.51 now.

PSP Filer now uses the extra 32MB of RAM available on the PSP Slim, though I'm not sure whether that will help to speed up anything. Some bugfixes to the ZIP and CSO support as well, though ZIP support is still far from perfect as it doesn't support passworded archives.

If you are using the PSP Slim or do not have the 1.50 kernel add-on installed on the old PSP, please use the EBOOT inside the kernel3 folder. Do note that quite a lot of features are missing from that, most importantly the ability to modify flash0.

Another update to cory's NandTool, adding more useful functions such as being able to mount ms0:/ to USB, dumping idStorage to key files for both the old PSP and the PSP Slim, and writing idStorage straight from key files.

Also, it's possible to get back some functionality for those who have screwed the nand on their PSP Slim. By using some keys from another PSP Slim, homebrew and ISOs in NO-UMD mode can run without errors. However this is not a magic fix if you have screwed your nand. Do see the readme file for more details.

File is provided without any help whatsoever as I don't encourage people to play with their nands. It's much too dangerous to make any mistakes.

The PSP scene is moving slowly these days, so don't expect updates anytime soon. As for me, the PSP phase is mostly over.

Hence, free unbricking/downgrading of PSP/PSP Slims at my convenience. This means only on weekday evenings near my house. Do email if you are interested. Of course if you are going to give me a donation I wouldn't say no, lol.

My favourite homebrew just got updated again to v4.4. It now comes with ZIP/CSO extraction, and is not limited to files that are below 22MB in size.

The developer Mediumgauge mentioned on his guestbook that he is working on RAR extraction support now, as well as support for passworded archives. That would really be handy, I wouldn't need the RAR/ZIP Extractor homebrew anymore :).

CWCheat v0.1.9 Rev I

Another update for CWCheat is here, bringing it to Revision I. CWCheat is arguably the best cheating plugin for the PSP, with support for many different types of cheat codes like Action Replay, Codebreaker, Gameshark, Xploder, etc. It also comes with a search function, which is great when you want to try searching for your own cheat codes. For those who are lazy, a database of cheats is regularly updated and can be downloaded from the main site, or straight to your PSP using an EBOOT that's provided.

Changes in this revision focus on the cheat searching routines, so you don't really need to update your CWCheat unless you do lots of cheat searching, or you just like to have the latest version of everything.

What started as a simple application for using the PSP as a remote control has evolved into a full shell replacement for the PSP's XMB.

IRShell allows you to launch homebrew and ISO/UMD, watch movies, use the PSP as a remote control (on the old PSP only), play PSX games (with 2-player ad-hoc support), listen to music, set an alarm, stream ISOs via USB and Wifi, and more. In short, everything you can do on the PSP, you can do within IRShell.

That said, personally I don't use it cos I find it too cluttered. But I thought the ability to multi-task between ISO/UMD and IRShell was cool.

Black Plates for 3.71 M33. Looks great, especially with a lighter background. Only gripe is that the battery indicator is quite irritating. Who needs it repeated on both sides of the time and date?

GAIA for 3.52 M33 and 3.71 M33. Seems to be quite a few themes that are copying the Applecor style nowadays.

Do get the correct version depending on what firmware you are using. For users on 3.71 M33 and 3.71 M33-2, either install the usbdevice.prx fix or update to 3.71 M33-3 first before flashing any themes to your PSP.
