Shipwrecked Building to be Torn Down; Work to Start September 27th

Egg Harbor, WI - Shipwrecked Brewpub will be torn down with work starting September 27th. Crews hope to have the entire building taken down by October 2nd, ahead of Egg Harbor's Pumpkin Patch Festival as a courtesy to all neighboring businesses.

Shipwrecked Brewpub was heavily damaged by an electrical fire on August 20th. 15 fire departments battled the blaze with support from local EMTs and the Red Cross. The building was later determined to be a total loss.

Shipwrecked Brewpub was established in 1997 and celebrated its 20th anniversary a few months before the fire. Construction of the new building is expected to last into spring. Shipwrecked hopes to reopen sometime in summer 2018.

DCA Presents Songwriter Double Bill July 15: Josh Ritter and Brett Dennen

On Saturday, July 15, Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present two extraordinary singer-songwriters, Josh Ritter and Brett Dennen. Ritter and Dennen, who have never appeared in Door County before, will take the stage at 8 p.m., performing separately in double-bill concert format.

Beloved by fans worldwide for his ebullient performances and inventive songwriting, Idaho native Josh Ritter has released seven albums over the course of his career. They’ve drawn acclaim from fans, critics, and fellow writers alike—novelist Stephen King called Ritter’s landmark album “The Animal Years” “the most exuberant outburst of imagery since Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.’”

The New York Times calls Josh Ritter “a slinger of serious ideas and high-flown imagery.”

Ritter is joined at DCA by folk-pop songwriter Brett Dennen, who honed his craft at summer camps in the Sierra Nevada foothills. With a knack for hooky melodies and joyful lyrics, Dennen has made a name for himself nationwide. He is fresh off the May release of “Por Favor,” an intimate and revealing new album produced by Dave Cobb, fresh off his Grammy-winning work with Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell.

According to NPR, Dennen is “capable of cranking out big, beautiful pop songs … [capturing] both the ornate and the simple.” Paste Magaazine agrees, writing that Dennen creates “nimble grooves, creamy choruses, and vocal performances of immediacy and genuine feeling … carefree soulfulness that recalls Van Morrison.”

The July 15 concert is made possible with support from major sponsors Al Johnson’s Restaurant & Butik, Bob and Paula Cummings, and Peninsula Pulse.

Josh Ritter and Brett Dennen will perform at DCA at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. Tickets for the concert range from $35 to $65. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. The box office is open Monday-Friday, 12:00-5:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.

Door Peninsula Winery wins 2 new medals;

Double Gold for Cranberry Wine and Gold for Blackberry wine

Carlsville, WI - Door Peninsula Winery has won two new medals for their award-winning wines, including a Double Gold Medal for their Cranberry. The inaugural Great American International Wine Competition awarded Door Peninsula Winery's Cranberry wine with a Double Gold medal and Blackberry wine with a Gold Medal.

The 1st annual Great American International Wine Competition was held in late March with judging completed on March 20th. The competition included 25 judges from 9 countries in various wine backgrounds including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, sommeliers, educators, enologists, winemakers, retailers, importers and wine industry writers and consultants. All proceeds from the Great American International Wine Competition went to the Raise a Glass Foundation which supports worthy charities focused on adults and children throughout the world. Submissions this year directly supported InterVol, a humanitarian group that recovers unused medical supplies and hospital equipment and ships them to countries in urgent need of assistance.

Over 1,000 wines were entered from over 100 wineries, 12 countries, and 26 United States. The full results can be viewed at http://wine.raiseaglassfoundation.com/results/2017.

Door Peninsula winery has been a consistent winner of medals through the years including at the Finger Lakes Competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition, The East Meets West Wine Challenge and the Amenti del Vino International Competition.

Trio Restaurant Closed Permanently

Ron and Jerry, the owners of Trio Restaurant in Egg Harbor Wisconsin told me today that they will not reopen the restaurant this year.

After 23 years, they have decided to retire. We will miss this great restaurant in Egg Harbor - one of our favorites.

We wish Ron and Jerry all the best in their retirement - they ran a great restaurant all this time and were an asset to the Door County dining community.
