however the selection is often limited and the features are few. It is not the fault of the retailer they have limited resources for selecting designer dog houses which are often offered by specialty builders.

These homes are often much larger and designed with several different features you will not find in the common everyday house. First there is a lot of attention to details and how your dog will react in their environment day to day.

Some homes may offer a porch and deck option with insulation and a vented roof plus the unit is raised off the ground with supports.

An ideal house would function as a kennel so your pet could be part of the outside as well as a shelter so they can get in out of the weather. Another feature of a designer model is they can have additional features added that will complement your backyard scheme, like matching paint, shingles and gutter that you have on your residence.

There are numerous details that set these homes apart to learn more browse this page.

Crate Training For A Puppy

First order of business, what is crate training?

The crate training concept was derived from the fact that puppies and other animals do not like to soil the
area where they sleep or are confined. You can use this to your advantage however it is not a license to abuse your dog.

Simply confine your puppy for short periods of time, ideally if they fall asleep when they are awaken and released they are sure to use the outdoors for potty time, this is where you come into play, it is very important that they are rewarded if they preform their duty outside. Shower them with praise and affection when they give you the results you want.

Crate training is a great way to engage your new puppy without having to stand over them 24/7 it forces you to observe and respond when necessary a very important step when introducing a pup into your home.
easy to use dog door that will adapt to your sliding glass door so you and your pet can get in and out easily.

The beauty of this system is it will accommodate any size dog unlike conventional doogie doors that require your pet to squeeze through.

When it comes to dogs there is big, bigger and oh my gosh here he comes!

The extra large breed dogs need special consideration when it comes to a feeding budget, whether they can be allowed indoors or have to remain outside and if so what house they will need.

It is not likely you will be able to go to a big box store and pull one off the shelf, normally they will not have the space for it and may require a special order.

Another option is to build one yourself, however if your time is valuable then after you crush the numbers more than likely you will find that the building route or paying someone to do it is not cost effective.

The final option is to invest in a kit type home that can be shipped to your front door and you just need to assemble it.

The most important consideration when you order something online or from a catalog is to make sure you get the right size! Extra large breeds like a Great Dane, Saint Bernard or Great Pyrenees are going to require the extra large model or bigger from your supplier.

The German Shepherd is a very popular breed that can grow fairly large so when it is time for selecting a new dog house more than likely it will require a large or possibly an extra large home depending on the manufacturers dimensions.

Most homes are designed with the thought in mind that the dog will likely "dip" when they enter the house so the door openly is engineered with that in mind. However there is some history with hip dysplasia with the German Shepherd breed, this does not mean every dog will be affected, but it is something to consider when looking at door opening measurements.

The most common concern when someone is selecting a new dog house is the proper size.

The question that we get asked the most is something like this:
We have a 80 pound German Shepherd what size house do we need?

As the dog owner you know your dog better than anyone so some important factors to consider are:
1. Is your dog overweight or tall/short for his or her breed?
2. How does your dog like to lay down? Some dogs prefer to stretch out completely while others may curl up.
3. Does your dog have any issues with their hips or are they older? This is important in regards to the door opening. Dogs naturally like to dip going into a shelter, however a dog suffering from hip issues is not going to appreciate that motion.

When you are deciding which size it will usually come down to the difference between one size or the next one to it, as an example if you have a Great Dane a medium or small house is out of the question so it would be between a large or extra large house and when in doubt always go to the larger size because it is much easier to compensate for a larger space than it is to adjust to a dwelling that is too small.

Consider this if you were purchasing a new bed for yourself would you select a bed where your feet stick over the end? Not likely.

Why They Are Better. Insulated dog
houses are a better choice than the basic variety because they create a
comfortable climate for your pup in any weather conditions.

They are made of a
material that reflects sunlight so that the air inside these structures during
summer months is cooler than outdoors.

In winter months, they offer insulation
against the chilly air so that your pet has someplace warmer to stay. Plus,
they also offer doggy doors so that your dog doesn't have to brave the wind,
rain, and snow but instead has a nice, quiet, comfortable, and altogether dry
place to rest.

The long term weather forecast does not look good for the drought stricken areas. With the drought comes extreme heat and can make our lives very uncomfortable, lucky for us there was a smart gentleman by the name of Carrier that invented the first modern electrical air conditioning unit.

That is good news for us but what your dogs comfort?

There is relief because you can get the same cooling comfort for your dog that you enjoy.
If you are lucky enough to be the owner of two dogs you may be faced with the decision about their housing.
Is it better to get two separate houses or would it make sense to invest in a duplex dog house?

Yes there is such a thing as a duplex house not just for humans but for dogs as well.

There are advantages of owning a duplex doghouse:

1. A smaller footprint in your backyard.
2. The dogs can be together and with a removal center divider they can even share the same space.
3. A duplex is usually cheaper than two separate units.
4. A duplex is usually more attractive than two separate houses.

Most of us don’t have the woodworking skills to build our
own dog house, so where to find dog houses for sale
is a commonly asked question online. When you have a puppy, you want the best
of everything for them, but as soon as you see the prices of some of the dog
houses in your local pet store, you might be amazed. Some of those dog houses
cost much more than the dog itself!

Therefore, knowing where to find dog
houses for sale is important, especially if your dog will be spending a
lot of time outdoors. Here is a little information that can help you find just
what you are looking for.

Although you might not
have the skills to build a dog house from scratch on your own, there are
some remarkably easy dog house plans to be found online that can help you
on your way. As long as you have some basic tools, you should have no
problem putting together a simple one.

Flea markets and garage
sales are great places to pick up used dog houses, but keep in mind that
they will need to be thoroughly cleaned before you ever let your dog in
there. Make sure that it is washed thoroughly and sprayed with anti-flea
and anti-tick sprays, and then left to dry and air out completely. This
can take a couple of days overall.

Because dog houses are so
expensive in the big pet stores, there are now some online retailers that
are selling much more affordable ones. What might catch your attention are
the many features that are now available – heaters, air conditioning,
comfortable flooring, and even a doggy cam so you can see your dog while
     they are in their home!

Finally, one of the most
common places to find dog houses for sale is at a lumber yard, a home
improvement store, or the local DIY store. Because these are generally
considered to be fairly easy projects for new woodworkers to do, you might
find a project with all of the products included that you can put together
     in a weekend.

When you buy a dog house or build it yourself, make sure
that it is as safe as it possibly can be. This means that it should provide
sufficient room for your dog and enough ventilation at all times, no matter
where they are sleeping. The flooring should be sloped so that the dog house
can be easily cleaned and there will be no stagnant water (which can cause mold
and create illness).

Also, make sure that there is an awning overhang
so that water won’t drip in the house and also that there is room between the
floor of the dog house and the ground. No dog house should ever be put directly
on the ground as it will get your dog too warm. Just an inch or two clearance

What happens next? Proper training will make the time spent with your pet much more enjoyable. The following tips will teach you everything you need to know to properly train you new pet.

To be the most successful in dog training, make sure your dog's need for exercise is being met before starting a new training project. Dogs are not sedentary animals by nature. They have a great need for movement and exercise in their daily routine. Take your pet to the dog park or help him learn a new skill that keeps him active, such as playing fetch with tennis balls or catching a Frisbee in mid-flight. Do not allow your dog to be bored. Make sure he or she stays as active as possible.

Consistency is important during your dog training. Make a list of the commands that you are teaching your dog, and be sure that everyone in your household knows them. It is also recommended that everyone use the same positive reinforcements for good behavior and negative response when the dog is disobedient. A dog will get confused if the reward does not always come after a good deed.

When housebreaking a dog, it is advisable to use the crating technique. For crate training to be effective, you must make sure to let the dog out frequently. With some time and training, a dog who has been crate trained will take his business where it belongs.

Try to challenge your pet on a regular basis. Give him a quiz where he has to perform all of his tricks, even if you know for a fact he does.

You must understand what will motivate your dog if you want to be able to train him. While your dog is learning what you are teaching him, you are learning what methods your dog responds to the best. Regardless of your reason for training your dog, he will need an assortment of various training exercises and a lot of positive reinforcement. Dogs love making us happy, and will strive to try to keep us happy.

Although lots of breeds get along with other dogs in training, whether or not you can train your dogs together is really up to their individual personalities. If this turns out to be the case, train your dogs separately so they both get the most out of their individual training sessions while you save yourself plenty of time and frustration.

When you are trying to house train a puppy, it is not going to learn overnight, so be prepared. When accident do happen, clean them up rapidly and thoroughly. Carpets are known to trap the smell of urine and encourage the dog to return to that spot for further marking. Buy a product specially designed to neutralize odors.

Use a steady and commanding tone when speaking to your dog. Dogs tend to be well in tune with how their trainers are feeling. Try using a stern tone to really convey your message to your dog.

Ensure that your dog gets plenty of exercise and stimulation. When dogs have nothing to do, they can get bored. Dogs with no enthusiasm will be harder to train than active dogs. Your dog will pay better attention to commands, as well as play with you more, when he has been exercised properly. Make long walks or daily runs a part of your routine that you and your dog can look forward to.

Both owners and dogs are happy when the dog is well trained. With this article, you have learned some tips and tricks you can use when it comes time to train your beloved dog.

Dog Kennels And Runs

There are definitely two solid reasons’ to have Dog Kennels and Runs. I am sure you have spent hours filling in topsoil and planting grass. Once you get around to cleaning up all buried bones now you have to deal with what pet droppings do to your property! From discoloring of the grass to land mines around the whole property that your family uses for recreation. Dog kennels and runs keep the dog droppings in one place, grass outside the run looking golf course pristine and your yard free from surprises!

A pet owner’s worst nightmare is losing a dog and the fear of what could happen if an animal runs free. You have to understand that the best of dogs want to explore and see this great big world. Sometimes a fence isn’t the ticket especially for big dogs with insane leaping ability or little puppies that want to dig their way to freedom. Losing an animal is a nightmare! No one enjoys consoling kids, asking strangers if they have seen your dog, calling radio stations, the pound, and shelters describing your lost dog!

The only way my spouse and I would enjoy the companionship of a dog is with a dog run that fits into our landscape with a dog house that protects my best friend. There are so many reasons to have a dog run besides the fear of losing a puppy and yard maintenance. If you have an open yard with access from the public particularly children a luxury dog kennel reduces the liability of a dog bite. Multiple dog households can better control their animals within a run! The new runs also come with separate cages so sick dogs can be isolated and expecting dogs can birth and wean their young.

Today’s dog homes have furnace and air conditioning options to keep your animal safe, healthy, comfortable and happy and you will never have to get up in the middle of the night to let the dog out! Dog kennels and runs consider one today and enjoy less headache tomorrow!

Some Information About Dog Houses For Large Dogs

If you are looking for dog houses for large dogs it is important to take a few things into consideration.

The first thing is that you want a structure that is large enough. This is a common scenario with new doghouses, and there are things that you can do to avert these problems. There are dogs that respond to living in the doghouse better than others do.

A dog owner must understand this, which commonly happens because the upbringing, if it was raised within a doghouse, and then they will probably be more comfortable in one. To this is a representation of security as well as good times with mommy.

However, this does not mean that a dog raised in the doghouse will readily accept the new home. Nevertheless, it will be much easier for them to accept a new house in comparison to one who has never used one.

There is also sketchy evidence that supports the belief that some bog breeds naturally accept doghouses more than others do. This gets worse if a dogs upbringing is a part of the problem. To make a dog like the latest residence here is what you need to do.

One of the mistakes that you need to avoid is making them feel like you are banishing them. Avoid putting the doghouse in a remote location, which is away from familiar, sights smells, and sounds, which they are accustomed. Keep them close to his human friends.

Ensure that the time of year is appropriate for your dog to live outside of the house. If the dog has been living indoors, most likely they will not accept a new home easily, more so in harsh weather like winter. Dogs will require time to gain tolerance and hence it is appropriate to move them to a new house in great weather.

Where Can You Buy Portable Dog Kennels?

If you have a dog, then there will be a time when you will need to shop for portable dog kennels, whether it is to safely take your dog to the vet or for when you go on vacation. Many people also find that portable dog kennels are a great way to allow a smaller dog to have their own “home” within your larger home – a place that they can call their own.

What Should You Look For?
The first thing that any dog owner should look for when buying portable dog kennels is making sure that the kennel itself is appropriately sized to the dog. You don’t want one too small for obvious reasons, but you also don’t want one that is too large or that a smaller dog could get damaged in it.
What Type of Portable Dog Kennels Are There?
For a smaller dog, these usually have one or more handles on top so that you can carry it. But for much larger dogs, you will need an alternative way of moving the kennel from the house to the dog or for use on airplanes. These kennels often have built-in wheels so that you can roll it around, wherever you are going.
Where Can You Buy Portable Dog Kennels?
If you go into your local pet store, you will find that they only have a few portable dog kennels, and they may not have the features that you want or need. Especially if you have a larger dog, it can be hard to find kennels that will fit. For these, you will usually need to go online.
When you search online for kennels, you will find that you can buy them for just about any size of dog, from the smallest one to the biggest. Some of these have built-in features such as places for water or food, and some provide more sunlight in them than others. One feature that a lot of people like is the ability to put your dog in from either end, or a door that allows you to drop them in from the top, since getting your dog into the kennel is usually the hardest part.
What About Airline Travel?
If you are looking at portable dog kennels for airline travel, then you need to make sure that the ones you are looking at are approved by the airlines. Unfortunately, each airline has its own set of rules regarding pet travel, so it is a good idea to go online to their sites to see what their specifications are. In general, though, you will find that most portable dog kennels are designed to fly on planes and will help to keep your pup safe during travel.
When you are shopping online, make sure you compare the length and weight restrictions of each kennel with the size of your animal, and if you have a puppy now, then you may end up getting several kennels over the course of his or her lifetime due to growth.

Dog House Heaters

All you really had to do was find some board, hammer it together, and there was your dog house. Now, however, it seems that both people and dogs alike are a little picky about their dog houses, as evidenced by the large number of them that are on the market.

So if you are in the market for the right dog house, here are seven tips that can help you choose:

Make sure that the dog house is big enough for when your dog reaches its maximum size. You would not be the first person to buy a dog house that fits your puppy but is far too small for when they get bigger. If you have any questions as to the maximum size, both in terms of weight and height of your dog, check online or ask your vet.

Every dog house should be made to protect your dog from the elements, and depending on where you live, that could mean heat, cold, rain, or falling leaves and limbs. Make sure that your dog house is sturdy and has sufficient ventilation.

A good quality dog house will have a raised floor that is sloped. This will allow ventilation to keep the floor cool and the slope will enable you to clean it easier. A dog house that sits on the ground will only get your dog too hot, and it won't be comfortable for them.

Look for materials that suit your particular environment. Therefore, if you live in a desert area, make sure the roof is able to protect your dog from the sun and the heat, and if you live in a cooler area, make sure you have room for blankets or other materials to keep your dog warm.

An overhang is also a necessity since it will allow your dog to stay in his or her dog house without worrying about the rain dripping down on them. It will also provide them with further shade in sunny areas.

Don't use metal in your dog house since it can get hot and burn your dog. If you use metal nails, make sure they are covered up or painted so they remain cool.

Remember that a dog house is your dog's home, too, so there should be room for them to store things that are important to them - toys, bones, food. This will make it more likely that they will use it on a regular basis.

In some ways, dog houses are more for the people who own them than the dogs, but if you have a dog that spends a lot of time outdoors, then you owe it to them to give them the very best dog house possible. By making sure that you follow these simple guidelines, you will be able to provide a safe and happy place for your dog to spend many hours of his life.

Insulated Dog Houses – The 5 Advantages

As someone who is in the market for a new dog house, you should know that they are not nearly as hard to buy as they used to be. In fact, there was a time when you couldn’t buy a dog house at all – you simply built one from some scraps of wood. Now, however, there is a huge range of luxurious dog houses with all of the features you have in your own home, and insulated dog houses are becoming quite popular as well.

As it turns out, people have finally figured out that one of the reasons so many people suffer from allergies is because we are living with animals in our homes. So if you are forced to put your dog outside for long periods of time, you will want to look at insulated dog houses that will keep them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. When it comes to insulated dog houses, here are the five advantages they bring to the table.

1. When a dog house is insulated, that means that it is better able to keep in cooler air in the summer time and warmer air in the winter. This will enable your dog to live in his or her dog house for more of the year.

2. The heat in a dog house can escalate quickly in the summer time, much like it does in a vehicle. By providing your dog with a properly insulated dog house, the heat will not get to them quite so quickly.

3. When your dog is not overheated, he or she will be happier, healthier, and will live a longer life.

4. Properly insulated dog houses also tend to be moisture-proof, which means that the dog house itself will last a lot longer. With insulation in the roof and walls, there will be no way for moisture to make its way into the wood to create mold and health problems for your dog.

5. Finally, when your dog is able to stay outside for most of the year, they will generally be a lot healthier, and so will your family.

Finding insulated dog houses in your local pet store is not always possible, especially if you have a larger dog, and that is one reason why more and more people are choosing to shop online. When you shop on the Internet, you will be able to search for dog houses by type of dog and the features that you are looking for, which is, in this case, insulation.

In addition to making sure that your dog house is properly insulated against heat and cold, you should also make sure that it is out of direct sunlight, that it has proper ventilation, and that it is not sitting directly on the ground (leave at least one inch of free space between the bottom of the dog house and the ground). By taking note of these factors, you will have a healthier dog who lives in a comfortable environment.

Will the house resist mold mildew and insects?

Is the house easy for you to assemble?

Is the door offset to help against the elements?

Does the house have a vented roof and clearance under the floor?
