As the interview continues Justin talks about signing XV and how he thinks XV has the potential to be one of the next ones. He also states that he has 5 records with him for Kid With The Green Backpack album. Before we let him go we had to ask Just about his relationship with Jay Electronica after making classics like Exhibit A and Exhibit C. He says that since Jay moved out to London they haven’t had a chance to work together but that they talk and are friends. Just says that he has heard the album, but doesn’t know if Jay will call it Act 2 or Act 3 but hopes that they will have time to work on it before Jay has to turn it in.

Def Jam started paying for Rihanna’s recent single, “Man Down,” more than two years ago. In March of 2010, the label held a writing camp in L.A. to create the songs for Rihanna’s album, Loud.

At a writing camp, a record label hires the best music writers in the country and drops them into the nicest recording studios in town for about two weeks. It’s a temporary version of the old music-industry hit factories, where writers and producers cranked out pop songs.

“It’s like an all-star game,” says Ray Daniels, who was at the writing camp for Rihanna.

Pharrell officially pulls back the curtain on i am OTHER, described as a “cultural movement dedicated to Thinkers, Innovators, and Outcasts.” The creative venture consists of the hip-hop mogul’s longtime projects including music production, apparel lines Billionaire Boys Club and ICECREAM, record label, and a premium YouTube channel featuring original programming.

“The idea for i am OTHER really came from the fans,” said The Neptunes producer. “They often say I inspired them to think outside the box and I wanted to establish a creative collective which represents that same philosophy. I believe individuality is the new wealth and I am dedicated to creating and supporting projects that encourage originality.”

The first signees to the i am OTHER imprint include “American Idol” alum Leah LaBelle, Puerto Rican singer Maxine Ashley, Compton rapper Buddy, and Texas musician Alyssa Bernal.

While his G.O.O.D. Music contributions continue to light up the charts, producer Hit-Boy recently dished out his admiration and overall respect for troubled hitmaker Scott Stroch.

Despite Storch’s recent woes, Hit-Boy said he is one artist which has motivated him due to his versatility in beat-making.
“One producer I’ve looked up to is Scott Storch. At his peak, he was doing Beyoncé’s incredible ballad, “Me, Myself and I,” and then he went to Fat Joe’s “Lean Back,” one of the biggest club songs ever,” Hit said in an interview. “Nobody could identify his sound, and that’s what I want. I can go from Kelly’s “Lay It on Me” to Pusha T’s “My God” and then do a “Paris.” People might still try to put me in a box, thinking I’m only a track producer, but not knowing I can make an R&B ballad right now and play the keys myself.” (Billboard)

Memphis producer Drumma Boy recently talked about putting on for his city and why he feels it is vital for his fellow hometown artists to stick together in order to succeed.

In Drumma’s perspective, Memphis artists have always had to go the extra mile to prove their worth.
It’s not that Memphis doesn’t have its share of stars. In the early 1990s, 8Ball and MJG put the Southern city on rap’s map, leading the way for Three 6 Mafia to have their infamous run. Now Yo Gotti, Don Trip, Zed Zilla and, of course, Drumma look to further cement the city’s legacy. “We’re really just showing and emphasizing the city of Memphis, showcasing the talent that’s in the city,” Drumma explained to Mixtape Daily of his mission. “Because a lot of the opportunities we’ve had, we’ve been overlooked or been the underdogs and really haven’t gotten that just due.” (MTV)
