Hello, World! Welcome to my blog. In this blog I will post my school work for Level 4. I will use it to practice writing, listening, speaking and reading. Also, I will share it with my classmates and people from the world.

My name’s Juan Gonzalez but you can call me Juanchi. I’m from Maracaibo, originally. I live in Maracaibo, in Monte Claro. I’m 20 years old and I have a big family. My mom is a lawyer and my dad an engineer. I have two brothers and one sister.

I study engineering at URBE . My favorite subjects are mathematics and English. This trimester I am taking 4 classes and I am in the 4th trimester.

I love music, dancing, playing soccer, driving my car (I have a red sport car), surfing the net, studying English, talking on the phone with my friends. My favorite food is pizza and I like chocolate very much. The most important to me is my family , my country and my dog. I also enjoy going out with my friends.

I hate onions, listening to hip hop, getting up early on the weekend, violence, war, injustice, and washing the dishes. I can't stand people smoking.

Eiffel Tower

My dream is to travel around the world, visit the Pyramids in Egypt and The Eiffel Tower in Paris. Of course, I want to graduate from Engineering School and be a good engineer. I also would love to learn to speak French, and Italian. I want to work in an important company and buy a house, get married and start a family.

About English, I love to learn new languages. I think English is very important. What do I do to practice my English? well, I listen to music and watch TV in English. It’s a good exercise. I also chat on the internet and have friends in many countries. I use social networks like facebook and twitter to connect to people around the world and make friends. I can write well, but I need to practice more. The most difficult for me is speaking. I want to practice in class and out of class, too. I hope I can make a lot of friends and practice speaking in this class.

Welcome, everybody!

This new trimester, we will be learning in a blended connected way. But what is that? you may be asking yourself. Well, let's try to explain what it is about. To start with:

It is mostly about learning and practicing your English both in your classroom and on line.
You will be reading, listening to, writing and talking about different topics in English.
It is about learning English using technology. That means we will be using computers, mobiles and internet to find real updated information concerning your different interests. We are going to experiment and play with new ways to learn autonomously. Learning for life. Learning to learn. Learning by doing. We will be watching and listening to videos as well as making videos. We'll have the chance to use different tools to express our ideas and interact with people.
It is about learning and practicing your English in groups, in community. Be ready to meet students and teachers from the university and the world. Of course, there will be tasks you must complete on your own.

That was a general description of the course. Now, how the classes take place:

If you can't come to classes, you can connect at home or wherever you have access to a computer and Internet.
You need to get a google account, since we will using different tools provided by Google. make sure to register to Gmail, Google Doc, and Blogger.
Blogs are going to be your personal journals (electronic notebook). There you will post everything we do in class. All your homework and tasks should be there. As well as anything else you want to add.
Every class will be a taken as a workshop or TALLER. Try not to miss your classes and if you do, keep your blog updated.
Homework will be assigned for each one of the units covered in class. The dateline to hand in your homework will be the day before your test. It means you will have the chance to work on your blog till that day.
Corrections to writing will be done with the help of tutors.. try to get one.. Go to Bloque F and meet our tutors. .or find a friend that want to help you- make sure to use the spell checker in your writing software (word, powerpoint, etc)
We will also use social networks to keep in touch: register to our Doris 3m EFL center group in Facebook and our Twitter is #doris3meflcenter
Get a microphone and headphones for this class. Register to Skype. Add your teacher dorismolero.
Get an avatar we will join a project on a virtual world. Register to Second Life to get your avatar. Join our group in Secod Life: URBE EFL Center in SL and add Pionia Destiny to your friends in SL.

Things you need to do to take this class:

Get a Gmail account.
Get a blog at Blogger. For instructions on how to do just that, get the power point presentation from our box or follow the tutorial prepared by Vance Stevens.

Hello, there! Well, we are entering the third term of the trimester and it's time for us to find out how much we have achieved during our time together. Our final project is an interesting assessment exercise... Where we will working different skills like writing, speaking, listening and reading. We'll practice:

How to work in groups to collaborate, cooperate, share, teach and learn together.
How to integrate different technological tools: creating and designing a power point presentation, audio recording, power point uploading, posting to a blog, sharing in social networks, like facebook, and twitter.
Transferring the knowledge got during our classes and using it to talk about different topics from the ones discussed in class.

Creating an Avatar in Second Life
Your first step is to create an avatar on Second Life. You can try it alone by going to http://www.secondlife.com and click on JOIN NOW or you can watch the following video. This video is a video tutorial taken from The university of Texas at Brownsville

You will need to have been born before August 1, 1992 to get an avatar that can go to URBE EFL Center.

After you have created your avatar, you will need to download a viewer to your computer. When you complete the avatar tutorial on Second Life they will instruct you to download their viewer. There are other options. We recommend the Phoenix Firestorm viewer. This viewer is more reliable, creates less lag, and easy to use. Click here for an instructional video on the Phoenix Firestorm viewer.

If you prefer the Second Life viewer and missed the download, you can find on this webpage http://www.secondlife.com. Scroll to the bottom of the page and download the viewer. The difference between the viewers is that the Second Life viewer often has more advanced visual and audio features. The downside is that the Second Life viewer has many updates that are not always stable. Click here to download the Phoenix Firestorm viewer.

1. If you are using the SL viewer, change your viewer from Basic to Advanced. If you fail to do this you will not be able to do all the fun things. If you are on Advanced, you will see tabs on the left and extra features on the bottom tab of your viewer. See the image on the right.

2. Now log on to your viewer and put Pionia Destiny in the Search Box on the top right. Click on People and you will see the name. Click on Profile and make Pionia Destiny a friend. I will know you are on and be able to provide assistance. You only have to send me an IM.

3. To go to URBE EFL Center you just have to click on the following link: http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Mist/213/86/21

*Important*
You must belong to the group:..EFL Center in SL. Send an IM to Pionia Destiny asking to be invited to the group or look into Pionia Destiny Profile and look for URBE EFL Center in SL group there. Once you have found it, just click and join.

CAUTIONS:
Virtual Worlds are just like the Internet. As a representative of URBE you are to conduct yourself professionally at all times. Just like the Internet it is easy to put information up, but you can never take it down. Do not say or do anything that you would not want your Grandmother or a future employer to see.

Well, we got to the third term. Time to work on finishing the project. But what's the project about? well, we are designing a campaign for our most important event. "Chinita's Fair". This time the products created for the campaign will be exhibit it in our URBE EFL Center in SL.

An advertising campaign is a specific course of action designed to advertise a company, cause, or product that employs an intentional and carefully coordinated series of marketing tools in order to reach the target audience. The end purpose of any ad campaign is to boost awareness of the subject matter and generate demand. The exact structure of the advertising campaign will often depend on the nature of the product or cause and the target audience that the campaign is designed to reach.

While specifics vary from one advertising campaign to another, some of the same tools are used in just about any campaign. Both print and electronic media are often used to generate attention and enthusiasm for the subject of the campaign, often with the logical and timely launch of different tools at specific points in the overall campaign. While in time past, electronic media referred more to television and radio broadcasts, that component now includes tools such as online banner ads, text messaging, and email advertisements.

We have to thank professor Nuris Zambrano for the help she gave us in this project. On her visit to our class she left us some guidelines on how to work with a campaign:

Students will post their projects in their blogs individually: products, description of the project, individual participation and their opinion of the project. Images and opinions of the experience in Second Life. Images of the Avatars and their names.

For our project we should use mind maps to visualize what we want to communicate. This is what Wikipedia define as a Mind map:

A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid to studying andorganizing information, solving problems, making decisions, writing and speaking.The elements of a given mind map are arranged intuitively according to the importance of the concepts, and are classified into groupings, branches, or areas, with the goal of representing semantic or other connections between portions of information. Mind maps may also aid recall of existing memories.

Let's celebrate our Zulianity by writing in our blogs about our dear Patroness "Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá". She is also the patron saint of Colombia, and the town of Caraz in Peru.

In Maracaibo we celebrate the Chinita's fair in November with an all-night party. The Chinita’s fair officially begins on October 27th when the Virgin is taken down from the altar in which she rests. She tours all over the Zulia State and returns to the Basilica to start all the religious festivities. Other cultural activities are held during the fair. Expo-Zulia is a temporary marketplace where the zulians show a great deal products that characterize our region. Many merchants, stores, companies and artisans offer their products at reasonably low prices. Many “gaiteros” gather in front of the basilica to sing their best gaitas to please the patron virgin.

This year we are celebrating the XLVI. Take some time to think what this celebration means to us people from Zulia. Write a post in your blog about her festivities. You can make a poster, include pictures of the chinita and the different fun things we do to celebrate. Tell the world about our traditions. Use the following graph to help you write about the festivity.

Hello, everyone!.. since everybody should be working on your first post in your blogs this week.. This is an example you can follow to write your welcome to my blog post.

In this blog I will post my school homework for Level 7. I will use it to practice writing, listening, speaking and reading. Also, i will share it with my classmates and people from the world.

My name’s Juan Gonzalez but you can call me Juanchi. I’m from Maracaibo, originally. I live in Maracaibo, in Monte Claro. I’m 20 years old and I study engineering at URBE . My favorite subjects are mathematics and English. This trimester I am taking 4 classes and I am in the 7th trimester.

I love music, dancing, playing soccer, driving my car (I have a red sport car), surfing the net, studying English, talking on the phone with my friends, pizza , chocolate, my family , my country and my dog. I also enjoy going out with my friends.

I hate onions, listening to hip hop, getting up early on the weekend, violence, war, injustice, and washing the dishes. I can't stand people smoking.

Eiffel Tower

My dream is to travel around the world, visit the Pyramids in Egypt and The Eiffel Tower in Paris. Of course, I want to graduate from Engineering School and be a good engineer. I also want to learn to speak French, and Italian. I’d love to work in an important company and buy a house, get married and start a family.

About English, I love to learn new languages. I think English is very important. What do I do to practice my English? well, I listen to music and watch TV in English. It’s a good exercise. I also chat on the internet and have friends in many countries. I use social networks like facebook and twitter to connect to people around the world and make friends. I can write well, but I need to practice more. The most difficult for me is speaking. I want to practice in class and out of class, too. I hope I can make a lot of friends and practice speaking in this class.
