Over 300,000 patients have been clinically verified with Mobius3D: the complete patient QA system.

Using an in-house collapsed cone convolution/superposition algorithm with over 100 reference beam models, Mobius3D provides users with 3D dosimetry verification, phantomless IMRT QA, and daily treatment QA. More than 300 clinics worldwide have switched to Mobius3D for patient QA, using a mix of 4 manufacturers’ linear accelerators, 13 different multileaf collimators, 10 photon energies, 14 electron energies, and 8 treatment planning systems.

“Our goal has always been to bring physicists faster, smarter QA,” says Nathan Childress, PhD, DABR, Founder of Mobius Medical Systems, LP. “We always knew that meant supporting high patient volumes, and I am thrilled to see the huge numbers of patients verified by our users.”

Some Mobius3D users have verified over 5000 patients with a single server: University Medical Center Groningen in Groningen, Netherlands verified 12000 patients in just 3 years, and Herlev Hospital in Herlev, Denmark also verified over 11000 patients.

Even more clinics are quickly approaching these numbers. Over 40 Mobius3D installations have verified more than 2000 patients since adopting the system, including University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority (3000 patients), Radiotherapiegroep Arnhem (5000 patients), and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (4000 patients across two servers).

With over 300,000 patients clinically verified across all installations, Dr. Childress says, “We aren’t stopping now. Even after we reach 1,000,000 patients, Mobius Medical Systems will continue our mission to develop innovative QA software for modern radiation oncology.”

Washington, DC, July 27, 2016: Mobius Medical Systems is pleased to announce that the company will be highlighting even greater integration of its solutions at the annual AAPM meeting being held in Washington D.C. from July 31st through August 3rd.

Mobius3D version 2.0.1 includes new integration of the company’s DoseLab machine QA software and will be available for demonstrations at booth #4029. Clinicians now have the ability to view all of their patient QA and machine QA data in the same user friendly web interface. Version 2.0.1 also showcases the clinically released CBCT module, the first of its kind online tool for patient positioning QA and patient anatomy verification.

“We strongly believe that the process of Machine QA and Patient QA should be separated, but having access to the results in a single interface offers greater efficiency”, remarked Nathan Childress, Ph.D., founder of Mobius Medical Systems. “We were the first company to offer an integrated solution for plan QA, pre-treatment patient specific QA, and in-vivo per fraction QA. With the addition of patient positioning, anatomy verification, and machine QA, there isn’t a more integrated QA system available in our market today.”

Mobius Medical Systems announced they have received clearance from the FDA to market and accept orders for the new CBCT module in Mobius3D.

The CBCT module is the first of its kind online tool for evaluating patient positioning and patient anatomy changes. Within 60 seconds of performing a cone-beam CT of the patient and performing recommended shifts Mobius3D reports a quantitative density gamma metric. Clinicians can use this metric to decide whether to proceed to treatment or not. The module can reveal incorrect shifts, changes in patient anatomy such as weight loss or even incorrect bolus placement. Once patient position is verified Mobius3D then calculates in vivo 3D dose for each treatment by using the measured log file data from the accelerator.

Neal Miller, Director of Marketing for Mobius Medical Systems stated, “With the addition of this module, we close the QA loop by including the patient in the equation. Mobius3D can provide unprecedented safety and accuracy for patient treatments by verifying plan quality, delivery precision and now patient positioning and anatomy changes too, all while bringing more efficiency to the department through automation.”

The Department of Oncology at Herlev Hospital is one of Denmark’s largest oncology treatment centers and is recognized as a pioneering leader in radiation oncology. As one of the early adopters of the Mobius3D patient QA system for all nine of their linear accelerators, Herlev has extensive experience with the software.

The group reported that in a one-year period ending in 2015 Mobius3D was used to assess the quality of over 3,500 patient plans. The system also performed pre-treatment, patient-specific verification of those plans, while also continuously monitoring individual fractions to confirm the safety and accuracy of each delivery. Within one year’s time, Mobius3D had verified a remarkable total of over 56,000 patient fractions in this clinic alone.

Sune Kristian Buhl, one of Herlev’s medical physicists stated, “Not only is Mobius3D more time-efficient than our former methods, all verifications are done on the actual patient anatomy. This increases our trust in the data and provides more confidence in the safety and accuracy of the treatments that our patients are receiving.”

The American College of Radiology (ACR) recently published a statement on their website answering the question of whether the ACR ROPA program considers log files generated from the treatment machine an acceptable “alternative” measurement for IMRT/VMAT for patient QA. The ACR states that log files are acceptable as long as they are generated using the patient’s IMRT/VMAT plan before the start of patient treatment, and that the medical physicist, along with the radiation oncologist have assured that the measurements verify the actual radiation doses the patient will receive. Two-dimensional detector arrays are specified as another ‘alternative’ method in the ACR-ASTRO Practice Guidelines for IMRT.

Nathan Childress Ph.D., founder of Mobius Medical Systems said, “We developed our log file based QA system, Mobius3D, to provide clinicians with a more efficient and more accurate way to perform patient specific quality assurance. We are pleased to have the ACR confirm that using log files qualifies as an alternative IMRT/VMAT QA method.”

Mobius Medical System’s Mobius3D software is the only commercially available system utilizing measured log files to perform patient specific end-to-end testing. Mobius3D uses the measured data from log files and a proprietary collapsed-cone convolution-superposition algorithm to determine three-dimensional dose to the patient. The process is completely automated and requires only the time needed to deliver the treatment fields.

Mobius Medical Systems, LP, the leader in innovative solutions for quality assurance (QA) in radiation oncology, is pleased to announce the release of Mobius3D version 1.5. For users with the MobiusFX treatment verification module, the newest version of Mobius3D automatically verifies accurate delivery of every fraction in a patient’s course of treatment. A new Treatment Summary report displays an interactive analysis of each delivered fraction. If any discrepancies are found, Mobius3D determines the 3D dosimetric impact to the patient.

Nathan Childress Ph.D., founder of Mobius Medical Systems said, “The purpose of creating Mobius3D was to ensure patients receiving radiation would get safe and effective treatments. With the release of version 1.5, clinicians can gain confidence that every fraction is delivered as expected. I am extremely proud of our team for building a product that moves the industry forward by significantly advancing automated radiation oncology QA tools.”

Version 1.5 also adds support for the new Mobius Verification Phantom (MVP). The MVP contains seven ion chamber measurement points and a film plane. Its geometry is built into Mobius3D, allowing QA plans measured using the MVP to be automatically calculated and verified in Mobius3D. The MVP adds flexibility in the Mobius3D ecosystem for commissioning, spot checks, easy investigation into QA failures, and as a secondary IMRT QA device.
