Problems: v1.24 patch and DotA v6.61

Rumors about the new patch 1.24 and its incompatibilities with other maps are all around the internet, forums and etc. In this case, nothing better than a word from IceFrog about what is really going on with the new patch and DotA.

Those who were waiting for the stable version of the actual DotA map 6.61b will have to wait a little. Now, IceFrog is concentrating his efforts on fixing the map to work properly on the 1.24 patch and the first step is done: he launched the version 6.61c of DotA as a "fast solution" for the incompatibility. There is no difference between 6.61b and 6.61c.

The problem is that 1.24 may not be the last patch. Probably, 1.24b and 1.24c will come too and even if IceFrog is able to fix the DotA map in the near future, we will have to wait until Blizzard fixes the WarCraft. For example, some people are facing problems using the WarCraft Editor with the 1.24 version.

Now you are asking "Why 1.24?". Well, the most important thing to be fixed is the possibility of downloading viruses intead of downloading maps when you join a host with an unknown map. But one thing is good: the new patch gives the opportunity of building custom maps up to 8MB size (instead of the actual 4MB limit). Who knows what IceFrog will develop for the future versions...

As of right now, 1.24 still has various bugs in it's functions that prevent most 1.24 maps from running properly on it. As these issues get fixed in coming 1.24b/1.24c patches, 6.62 beta will be updated alongside them. As soon as the new patch is stable and 6.62 is tested on it sufficiently, it will be released. Hopefully the map will return to a stable code state in the very near future.

To finish the discussion, there is nothing we can do but report to IceFrog any bugs that you face when playing DotA and wait for him to fix everything. He is really giving his best to go through this problem as fast as he can.

After the thrilling release of 6.60 (& 6.60b), Icefrog has instantly started working on the next version (6.61) and this time he looks to you for YOUR suggestions!

The recent release of 6.60 introduced the community to lots of game play changes as well as new heroes and items. Unfortunately, changes are always accompanied with balance issues. So now Icefrog aims at a "fast patch aimed at balance improvements". Thus he has called out to the whole community for suggestions and ideas. So if you feel a need for any change be sure to to let him know!

Note: Try to keep your suggestions concise with adequate detail. Also, remember the new version is aimed at balancing etc thus suggestions regarding new heroes and items etc are irrelevant and unlikely to be entertained.

Infernal Cry League's DotA Division

This North America-only league has been a successful WarCraft 3 League for a while now and has decided to add DotA to its lineup. There's only one problem. They are only accepting 8-10 teams! Lacoste Joins Serious Gaming

The former Xeo player has decided to leave Xeo and join up with Serious.DotA due to language and proximity issues. Here is a statement from

The main reasons behind his clan changing after such a long time in xeo (and the organizations they were in before), besides him being a great player and an excellent carry, is that we speak the same language and we are able to communicate on a much higher level than when you talk english as he was in xeo. Also his location will help us a lot in bootcamping, croatia is a neighbour country and when we feel like bootcamping we can do it easily.

His character will for sure add a lot to the team, he is a great person and has a great sense of humour. His role will be diverse, something between a carry and ganker, to give me and the rest more space to play a ganker role which some of us always wanted to play. I think with lacoste, g0g1 and bane as our main carries, baja, zep, rio and fill as our support and gankers, and me at the ganker role, I`m sure we can achive a lot.

WCG 2009 Asian Championship

World Cyber Games Asian Championships are set to take place on July 4th and 5th. This year, the games to be played are DotA, FIFA 09, and Guitar Hero. But we only care about the DotA part, don't we?

ADC Championship 2009!

After the success of ADC08 Garena is proud to present you with Asia DotA Championship 09! Registrations will open on June 1st and end on June 15th. The registration is free and every team has the opportunity to play against some of the best Asian DotA teams. All teams will be required to play a qualifiers to win a spot in the regular season.

Prize Distribution for Season II: $4350 USD to be won

There are three phases in ADC09, the qualifier, regular season, and the playoffs.

Qualifier

Qualifiers will be held in 10 regions. All teams can participate in this largest Asia DotA online tournament. Qualifier format will be Best of 1, Single Elimination until 4 teams are remaining. Semi Final and Final matches are in Best of 3, Single Elimination mode. The winner of each region will advance to Regular Season Stage.

Regular Season
Regular season consists of 10 teams and is played in Round Robin format. Each team is required to play 9 matches per season, once against each of the other teams. In regular season, games will be played in best of 3 format.

Matches are to be played between Thursday 0:01 am GMT+8 and Wednesday 11:59 pm GMT+8 once a week. This period is being referred to as "Playday". There will be 9 Playdays in totally. 1 Playday per week and the regular season will last for 9 weeks.

The teams with the ranks #1 and #2 will directly enter Playoff. The clans with the ranks 3 - 6 will have to play a playup match, consisting of #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5. Winners will be qualified for the Playoff.

Season Final
Season Final will be played after regular season. Games will be in Best of 3, Double Elimination format.

Registration Information

Sign-ups will be open on June 1st! ADC 2009 will be using the Garena Tournament System together with Garena forum. Please register a team on the system first to get ready for sign-up!
Sign-up threads will be created for each region. Teams are to signup on the Garena Tournament System first, then post the player list as well as leader contact information in the respective sign-up thread. If the player list in the sign-up thread differs from the GTS team list, forum thread will be the indicator.

More details of registration will be released on June 1st upon opening of registration.

The following statement was recently released on IceFrog’s personal blog regarding the very soon release of 6.60!

Some things to look forward to from the 6.60 release according to IceFrog.

-Many new items (at least 5)
-Ability changes on old heroes
-Hero remakes and a new hero or two
-A new regeneration system for structures will be active only when they are attacked without creeps/corpses nearby

Another New team: Reality.DotA

Last Wednesday, Fragster announced that a new team was formed. The name of the moment is Reality.DotA and it comes with a strong line-up formed by European players. They are:

As you know, some of these players were out of the DotA scene for a while. zoN, for example, was from SK-Gaming long time ago, while PlaymatE was without a team for some time after MYM finished. But everyone knows their strength, what they did for their old teams and what they can do for Reality.DotA now.

Statement by DeMeNt

It was more or less a spontaneously decision to form that team, since my clan disband and went inactive for a period of time, i was bored to scrim with other teams and thats the reason i formed Reality.DotA with some friends.
We dont know yet, which player will take what role, we are currently trying out some gamestyles and to be honest, evem PlaymatE had to play some supporter heroes as well :p!
The main goal right now is to win the playoffs through the division 2b in the dota-league. We want to practice a bit in the division 1 and gather some experience as a new formed team.
Its always hard to find a sponsor, when you dont have the neeeded credits with the team, but there are big chances we can earn them in division 1 and show the sponsors out there, how strong this team can be.
I am glad, that everything is running perfectly at the moment, but the time will tell!

DTS-CUP ready for action

After weeks and weeks of qualifying stage, the 16 available slots are now filled with the best of best. Once more, DTS-CUP shows everyone it deserves the status of an important event on international DotA scene. All battles set by the non-invited teams were really hard and thrilling, and the efforts were rewarded at the end to the winners.

The event is increasing it's prizes every year. DTS-CUP 2008 gave to the finalists the amount of $1000 to the first place, $600 to the second, $400 to the third and $200 to the fourth. This year, the prizes are much better: $3000 to the winner and a cup, $2000 to the second and $1000 to the third placed. Big prizes equals to big rivalry, that means players with more than enough motivation to give their best on each game, and that's what everyone wants to see.

The only thing everyone will dislike is the absence of some high-level teams. Because of different reasons, many teams denied the invitation, but it doesn't mean the tournament will have it's quality lowered: as said before, the qualifying stages were really good, maybe these will surprise the tops.

IceFrog's Blog | 1.24 And Beyond

In his latest blog entry Icefrog urges the Dota community to keep their warcraft III updated with the latest patch available(currently 1.23). He also unveils another exciting feature of the all-awaited 6.60; the new shop layout.

IceFrog emphasized on the importance of the new patches. He explained: "it is important to the development of DotA for players to have the latest Blizzard patches". He highlighted that these patches are important as they provide new "security features" and "map development functionality". Furthermore he said that this problem mainly persists in the net cafes where the systems are locked to prevent new software from being installed. Therefore it is suggested that the users of these cafes make an effort and request to the managers/owners of these places for the updates.

In the build-up to the upcoming 6.60 Icefrog has yet again revealed one of the many changes that the new map will bring. Based on suggestions that he received from the community, he has decided to remake the shop layout. He acknowledges that such changes are not always welcomed by the older players but insists this is an important development which he believes will make "correctly guessing where an item is an easy task for both existing and new players alike".

GuerillaMethod announced their brand new DotA channel sponsored by netplus cybercafé.

After a few months of hard work, GuerillaMethod finally succeed to set up their own DotA channel which is sponsored by one of the famous Serbian cybercafé, netplus. As for now, they are still in the Beta Phase and they are accepting new users to their channel.

For those who are interested to join the community, you can write a Vouch Request in their official forum. The objective of the project is to create a new DotA community by gathering only high-skilled and good mannered players from all around the world.

Malaysia's prize money record tournament

SGNDT 2009 Official Press Release

Sendi Mutiara Multimedia Sdn. Bhd. (SMM) announced The Sendi Mutiara Multimedia Grand National DotA Tournament 2009 (SGNDT 09’) after four years successfully organizing the event.

The SGNDT 2009 qualifying rounds will start on the 30th of May and will run consecutively through ten states in Malaysia before proceeding to the Grand Final which will be held in the capital city of Malaysia- Kuala Lumpur, from the 27th till 29th of November.

The participants who succeed in each state-qualifying round by either winning the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th place will proceed to the Grand Final and will be given an opportunity to compete amongst participants of international level. As for this year, the event offers a grand prize of RM 135,000 overall to be won.

As for international participants from Europe, US and Asia, registration processes will be conducted for teams who are interested to join the SGNDT 2009.

Furthermore, the international participants will automatically book their places in SGNDT 2009 Grand Final without any registration fees required.

Last year, the event was nominated by The Malaysia Book of Records for the “Highest Prize Money in a PC Gaming Tournament” and “Most International Participants in a Single Game Event” where 60 teams from seven countries took part in the event including Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, China, and Russia with the grand prize of over RM 120,000 given.

Unique-Esport.dota has been formed

The ugly duckling has become a swan. Donald Duck is ready as a leader of Unique-Esports new dota squad.

Recently a lot of teams have disbanded, but finally a new team is ready is ready to join the competetive scene. The multi-gaming clan Unique-Esports just picked up a dota-squad. The team is led by former Ravens player Andreas "Donald-Duck" Søgaard, who collected a bunch of danish players and one british player. Among the danish players we have StoDDeReN, who used to play from MeT before they became Ravens, and we have Valeur and Calculus, who recently left RapE.dota.

First can you give us a short describsion of the team? I mean who plays what and so on?
Well, we're still figuring out our roles in the team per-say, since we have a lot of different players with alot of different strengths. As for now Donald-Duck is taking on the roles of support mostly, a role which CalculuS, Durum and StoDDereN will be helping him with, while they play their own roles as gank heroes. Ich1go, our asian wonderkid from Brittain, will he carrying our team to win most of games.

Donald is the leader ingame, since he has most experience by far, and while some still doubt his skills - you certainly cannot doubt his aptitude and knowledge of the game, and with a more relaxed and friendly environment he'll get to unfold his true potential. He is also a really mannered and good captain, and as some of our players are quite new to playing on a high-level, we are all eager to learn and Donald is eager to teach from experience, and it's working out great so far.

As mentioned you are still a new team, but Donald claimed in his official statement that you soon will be among the very best. Isn't that a bit early to say?
Well, we are expecting to be among the very best AT SOME POINT. We're realistic, and we know that we still have a long way to go, but I'd definately say that the potential is there, and we just need practice, practice and practice, so we can bond together with a team and find out how to compliment each other in the best way. There are currently only a few un-beat-ables like Ks.Int, Ravens and EG, rest of the top teams, with full respect to all, are certainly inside our shooting range.

Already we have scrimmed with several 'top' teams and have come out victorious more than once! :)

But now Pick-League is just over and EMS just started without you. So in what tournaments do you expect to particitate within the nearest future?
As a matter of fact, it fits us nicely that we have some time to practice before we're thrown into the mix, but we will of course sign up for every tournament possible - perhaps the new pick-league, ESL and so on. As the dota-scene is right now, tournaments appear and disappear at various times, so it's impossible to tell at the moment. But we will be there!

What about LAN-events? Are you planning to participate in tournaments like Dreamhack and The-Experience?
The Experience in Roskilde is probably a bit too soon and costy, for the team and sponsors. We will however, as Unique Dota garners support get to some lans, so yeah, you might see us at dreamhack (where we'll own, because we have so much lan-experience from my appartment!)

What will happen to the clanless players, many gamer asked. Last evening the question was answered partially by H4nn1-. He joined the currently best DotA clan Kingsurf.International and will finally play together with his old friend Levent.

But what about the rest of ex-MYM? Maelk, MaNia and Pusher-Street will join the lately very successful danish-only clan Ravens.

Former MYM about to disband?

Yesterday the Kingdom.DotA player h4nn1 has played an official match with Kingsurf.International and many people wondered about the future of ex-MYM

In the evening, Maelk made a post at the dota-allstars.com forum and imparts the community that they will probably break up the team.

Maelk: We have decided to shut down the team.

Kai has had a desire to play with Ks.int for a long time. Their playstyle fits him perfectly and they have his longtime friend, Levent, and of course KuroKy who is also German, so its an obvious move for him to take. Personally I find them stronger than ever, and with their current form it's probably the strongest lineup there has ever been.

As for the rest of us, Pusher, MaNia- and I have been focusing on the upcoming Europeans Nationscup and playing with an all Danish lineup has rekindled the fun of the game. One of the reasons why we weren't performing in the end, was probably because each of us played and practiced with different teams. Kai with the Germans, Loda with his Swedes, us with our Danes whilst Ben has been more or less busy with school, meaning we had three to four different opinions on how the game should be played, which didn't work out as it has in the past.

As for Loda, I am not sure what he is going to do, but our focus is mainly on the Danish team and our actual lives over the course of the summer, so I doubt we'll be building up anything together.

Was a great ride, but it all fell apart with MYM coming to an end. I wish all of the guys the best of luck in their future teams.

MYM was on top of the DotA scene for years and has always managed to be one step further. I can not count how many recommended replays I have seen with Maelk and his team. And countles too are the achievements of that special team.

In the near future we will probably see the ex-MYM players in their respective nation team. Dota Maniacs wishes all the best to all of the members.

While we reported on the professional gaming team Evil Geniuses picking up five American StarCraft players, the announcements are not done yet. Team EG’s Executive Director will appear on dj Wheat’s new podcast “Live on 3” with an exclusive announcement.

Readers should be familiar with dj Wheat as he has covered both WarCraft III and StarCraft along with Bunny and Tasteless (with their respective games) at past WCG events and BlizzCon. He is extremely passionate about what he does and we expect this announcement to be big!

Live on Three is a brand new podcast covering all aspects of competitive gaming, eSports and tournaments, casual and hardcore with a no holds barred approach. The show is very honest and has eSports personalities from every genre including Slasher (Quake) and Sirscoots (MLG). There is also an oppertunity for YOU to make your voice heard and call in. Past shows have discussed the possible split of the StarCraft community when StarCraft II drops, comparing it to Counter-strike 1.6/Source. On a recent episode they also got a chance to interview iNcontroL who was just signed to Evil Geniuses and was on the reality tv-gaming competition WCG Ultimate Gamer on Sci-Fi in the U.S.

There will be discussion on tonight’s show about the newly formed StarCraft team and an exclusive announcement from the team (we do not know the details of this announcement, so TUNE IN!).

EG Exclusive Announcement, Ultimate Gamer down to the final six

This week's show will feature an exclusive announcement from Evil Geniuses, which will be announced live on the air and only on Lo3. Team EG manager Alex "chibsquad" Garfield will be on the show to discuss in length the announcement, as well as talk with us about various developments of the team as of late including the new StarCraft division, and the Counter-Strike 1.6 team replacing Gravitas Gaming at the KODE5 finals. Expect some CSProMod talk as well!

WCG Ultimate Gamer is down to it's final six competitors as StarSlay3r "Ciji" Thornton was eliminated this week in a rather dramatic episode. We will talk with her about her feelings of being eliminated by Mark and all of the emotions surrounding her relationship with him on the show, her experience on the show, and thoughts about people's comments about her from the Internet.

We will go through the week's happening in eSports including SK's win at KODE5 Sweden, Pandemic's win over compLexity in the TF2 CEVO finals, and the WoW 3.1 patch release and it's effect on eSports.

The eXperience 2009!

After weeks of waiting and anticipating, the Danish event host Roskilde eSports has finally announced the FULL tournaments which shall be taking place in the event "The eXperience 2009."

The details of the events were actually made known last week, but in a publicity gimmick, Roskilde eSports decided to leak information on one tournament per day, causing the public to become more intrigued in the event.

Today, all information on the event has finally been revealed.

Like the previous year, "The eXperience 2009" will take place from 27th July till the 1st of August.

The prizes for this year will be fruitful, for the entire purse of 32.000 Euro will be divided into only FIVE portions, and each of this portions garnersmore than 2000 pounds each.

The event which has been voted as the 'Event of the Year' by Cadred as well as being nominated for the same award by Pixel.TV will surely be a earth-shaking one in the world of e-sports and we tremble in excitement as we eagerly await the faithful date of 27th of July.

Impreza, one of the top teams in Singapore has officially announced that it shall be disbanded.

Having won many local competitions in Singapore such as the World Championship Games held in Funan in 2008, Impreza managed to gain enough recognition from their home country and was chosen to represent Singapore in the Asia Dota Championship where they showed that they were a threat not only on the local stage but on the international level too.

They also took part in international competitions such as Farm4Fame where they managed to clinch third place in one of the series.

Impreza's reign as one of the most dominant team in Asia however was shortlived.

After the SMM competition which was held in Malaysia, their long time leader and acclaimed player TrueNetPro had to leave the team for compulsory service in the army. Lemion also left the team shortly after, stating that he had to forgo his position in the team for his studies as his major exams were coming up
and that he was also neglecting his girlfriend.

However, despite the loss of their two best players, Impreza continued to play in major local events such as the CAPL ( Compaq AMD Players League ) Elites
where all of the best local teams battled it out to see who was the best and who would get the spoils. Impreza's performance in these competitions were all reasonable and the majority of the dota community had thought that they had settled down and got over the losses of the two players.

In a surprise twist however, Paul ' lemion ' Ng announced that Impreza has decided to call it quits and will be disbanded without furthur ado. He also changed his reason for leaving the team, stating that "Impreza just was not improving for me, I quit the team."

Paul ' lemion ' Ng has already been accepted into KingSurf's DotA team's roster to replace Ks-Bouncy.

The future of the remaining Impreza member's however remain a unknown.

luck in his stay at KingSurf.

DTS: v1lat in the spotlight

An interview with DTS.Chatrix’s manager regarding to the team’s future with two new players in their roster now.

Recently, DTS.Chatrix DotA team has added two new players into the team, LigtOfHeaven and Artstyle after the departure of their former leader, Axypa who will be playing with another Ukrainian team MyRevenge.UA.

LightOfHeaven was the former Rush3D player before the team was disbanded for quite some time, while Artstyle was the former leader for the Ukrainian DotA team, HardTeam. Unfortunately, the team seems to be playing poorly as they lost to the Australian DotA powerhouse, sGty in Farm 4 Fame 9 recently.

As for that, the news editor from Replays.net, ‘Last.spirit’ conducted an interview with the DTS manager, v1lat about the future of the new DTS.Chatrix DotA and ‘Last.spirit’ brings us the translation of it:

We all know that DTS.Chatrix currently is facing some changes as the team added LightOfHeaven and Artstyle to the DTS roster. What is your expectation for them?
-Recently, due to changes in DotA version, we had some problem with the tactics, game picks and etc. So we need something like "fresh blood" for the team, and Light is perfect for this role. DTS guys and Light have been good friends for quite some time, and we want to see him in the team much earlier and when he was dropped from Rush3D roster, we offered him a contract. I think that in the upcoming DTS Cup we’ll see what does it mean by Light's surprise. As for Artstyle, he’s a very strong old-style Ukrainian player and he wants to play with GO[blin], Travka, Light and the other DTS players. So we think he'll be a great replacement for Axypa.

We know that Axypa plays support role in the team. After his departure, who actually do you think can fulfill his role?
-You know that 6.59d version is like a completely new thing. Most of the top teams play without full-support heroes and this role is not that important now. But of course we have Moelie and GO[blin] who can play Warlock, CM and other support heroes at a great level.

Which team is Axypa playing with now?
-Axypa is now playing in a new Ukrainian team, MyRevenge.UA (strong German organization) and I think now he can show the world, that he is a great player not only at support-heroes since he is something like the "leader" in his new team.

How about your team’s training? You guys have been playing online or offline?
-We have a schedule (as any other pro-teams have), and of course we're training online. Five days a week, five to six hours each day. Training consists of replays and strategies analyzing, lane practices and of course Clan War. You can find me, or any of our members to play a CW at #dts-gaming @ Quakenet,that is IF you have a strong team of course .

Now, can you tell me the roles of each player in DTS?
-A lot of our fans are talking about DTS – a team of five carry players. This is not true actually. Each of our players can be very good at heroes like Tinker, Sand King and even Crystal Maiden. Everybody knows how strong is GO[blin] using Leshrac, Chen and Warlock. We have a new line-up and it is hard to actually determine the roles of each player in the team. And one more! GO[blin] once played Demon Witch at full-support with seven kills and zero die. XD

I think DTS now has enough good players to beat any team from the world but in the new round of F4F game, the team lost to the Australian team, sGty. Why?
-First of all, the reason is we had to play using US Host Bot. It was like 0.5-0.9 delay. Secondly, those Australians are really worst match for us. We haven't won any game versus them (CW, KOKC, F4F) and of course they picked very well. As for now, F4F is like practices for us to try out new strategies in battles.

What is DTS planning for this year?
-We'll attend all ASUS tournaments, DTS Cup and also Dream Hack. We'll also try to do anything to play as good as we were last year. We’ll surprise our fans and sponsors. We have great sponsors, so I think we can attend any LAN tournaments, even in Asia.

The former Rush3D players came to China and they met many strong teams like 7L. Did you check out their replays? What do you think about Chinese DotA teams?
-Oh yeah, the one that Rush3D lost to 7L and that game was really interesting, We've analyzed some of the replays (since Chinese teams are something like the idea generators) and we know that teams like 7L, EHOME and Team PV(or something like this) are quite amazing sometimes. But it is hard to play with them at Garena, because of the connection issues.

Last but not least, do you want to say something to the DTS fans in China?
-Of course. We love you guys, and your support is important to us. I think we'll visit China soon, and we'll have a chance to meet in real life. We’ll try our best!

A lot of people are waiting for the next version of the DotA Allstars map. IceFrog knows that and thus he keeps updating his blog regularly with new information about the development.

there is a lot of development, according to his site. IceFrog plans ample changes to the upcoming version. The only specific change he mentions is the Aghanim's Scepter. In 6.60 this item will not only improve the ultimates of intelligence heroes any more. Besides that he plans a lot of item and hero changes, and not to forget the new Tauren Chief hero.

Another new feature he mentions is the dynamic terrain morphing command, which allows every single player to change the terrain for himself at any point of the game.
