Μόλις σήμερα έλαβα email ότι επιτέλους η καλλιτεχνική φλέβα της οικογένειας πέρασε σε ψηφιακό και διαδικτυακό επίπεδο! Αντιγράφω:

Οι On the House σχηματίστηκαν τον Μάιο του 2008 στη Θεσσαλονίκη όταν η Μελίνα Χατζηαντωνίου και το Σάκης Ραπτόπουλος αποφάσισαν να ενώσουν τις μουσικές τους εμπειρίες και προτιμήσεις, δημιουργώντας ένα πολύ ξεχωριστό ηλεκτρονικό μουσικό σχήμα. Για πρώτη φορά programming και synthesizers συνδυάζονται με μοναδικό τρόπο με live female vocals σε ένα πρόγραμμα που περιέχει re-mixes από γνωστές επιτυχίες κυρίως των '90s. Αν και πρόσφατοι στη μουσική σκηνή της χώρας, οι On The House μετράνε ήδη αρκετές live εμφανίσεις που έχουν προκαλέσει τον ενθουσιασμό και τα θετικά σχόλια του κοινού!

Επειδή είμαστε και ομορφόσωγο (!!), αν αναρωτιέστε με ποιό μέλος του συγκροτήματος υπάρχει συγγένεια, δείτε το βίντεο!

Κρίμα που η Καθημερινή δεν δίνει τη δυνατότητα στους αναγνώστες της να σχολιάσουν στην ιστοσελίδα τους. Ο κ. Ξυδάκης σε αυτό το άρθρο εξηγεί την ρητορική του πρωθυπουργού του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, κ. Gordon Brown, ο οποίος από πόρνος του City και των Docklands επιστρέφει στην ταπεινή σκωτσέζικη καταγωγή του και θυμάται την απλή αλήθεια του πλούτου που του δίδαξε ο ιερέας πατέρας του.

Όμως τις περισσότερες φορές είσαι ό,τι κάνεις και όχι ό,τι λές, και οι πράξεις του κ. Brown μόνο ταπεινότητα δεν αποπνέουν. Έχοντας δώσει στους τραπεζικούς "κολοσσούς" με τα πήλινα πόδια τα δισεκατομμύρια των ονείρων τους , φορολογώντας τον κόσμο μέσω της δημιουργίας χρημάτων , προσπαθώντας να σώσει τον κόσμο ενώ είναι ένας από τους υπαίτιους που οδήγησαν στην (χρηματοπιστωτική και οικονομική) καταστροφή του, τώρα προωθεί την σεμνότητα και ταπεινότητα που είναι τόσο κοινή σε όλους αυτούς τους λύκους με στολή προβάτου.

A case study conducted for "What's this Life for?", a lifestyle think-tank, showed that the most important reason that people are afraid of getting the sack is because they can't stand their own lives. Sitting at home idle, spending time by themselves, with their families or flatmates is terrifying for most people and reminds them that their lives are not really worth living, unless they have a job. Other people reported that being unemployed has made them start thinking too much for the best part of the day and make their heads hurt. A lot miss the numbness of their everyday routine.

The study has concluded that getting crammed in jammed trains, "investigating" endless and pointless spreadsheets, irritable colleagues, know-it-all managers are valued much more than expected when lost, whereas strolling aimlessly in the city/ countryside, bike riding, socialising and other leisure activities are overrated. A large number of the participants promised that once again employed, they will never surf the Net for holidays, houses and gifts or anything else unrelated to work, as well as unsubscribe from the forum at Bored.com.

Interestingly, loss of income came a close second, not because of the risk of repossesion or missing the odd bill payment, but because self-proclaimed middle-class suddenly realise that they are no better than working class or even the serfs of the Middle Ages.

Απλησίαστες και φέτος οι τιμές των αεροπορικών εισιτηρίων για τους Θεσσαλονικείς κάτοικους του Λονδίνου που θέλουν να περάσουν στα πάτρια εδάφη τις ιερές ημέρες της Μεγάλης Εβδομάδας και της Παναγιώτατης Ανάστασης του Κυρίου. Η κατρακύλα της τιμής του πετρελαίου φαίνεται δεν έχει επηρρεάσει καθόλου την τιμή της κηροζίνης ή μπορεί κάποιοι να είναι αρκετά βλάκες ώστε να πληρώνουν τιμές καλοκαιριού 2008 λόγω hedging.
Επίσης, απ' ό,τι φαίνεται ο δημοφιλέστερος τρόπος να βρεθεί κάποιος στη Θεσσαλονίκη είναι μέσω του Τρίγωνου των Βερμούδων γιατί μάλλον συμφέρει περισσότερο αλλά και επειδή είναι γνωστή η αγάπη των κατοίκων της Καραϊβικής για την Νυφούλα του Θερμαϊκού.
Τέλος, οι απευθείας πτήσεις στοιχίζουν όσο το βάρος του επιβάτη σε χρυσό (και έχει πάρει η τιμή του την ανηφόρα) ενώ οι θέσεις πρώτης κλάσης είναι ήδη κλειστές από τους μοναχούς του Βατοπεδίου που σπουδάζουν στο LSE.

Οποιοσδήποτε ενδιαφέρεται, κάθε Κυριακή τρείς με πέντε το απόγευμα, στο Crisis προσφέρονται δωρεάν μαθήματα juggling (και όχι μόνο) για όλα τα επίπεδα. Εχθές παρακολουθήσαμε το πρώτο (ο ένας) και το δεύτερο (η άλλη) μάθημα! Ο "καθηγητής" είναι Ισπανός, λέγεται Jago και το μεγαλύτερο ποσοστό των ατόμων ήταν Ιταλοί. Γενικώς περάσαμε πολύ όμορφα και το μάθημα ακολουθεί beer session σε κοντινή pub! Επίσης, ο εξοπλισμός (μπάλες, κορίνες, δίσκοι, κτλ) προσφέρεται επι τόπου και δεν χρειάζεται να αγοράσετε τίποτα (εκτός αν θέλετε να εξασκηθείτε σπίτι σας!). Σε περίπτωση που θέλετε να πάρετε μέρος, απλά παρουσιάζεστε στη Commercial Street, Νούμερο 66!

Καινούργιο Label

Από σήμερα, ανοίγουμε ένα καινούργιο κεφάλαιο, το Apple my Ass , για τα διάφορα μαργαριτάρια που μπορεί να συναντήσει στο iPhone. Αφορμή υπήρξε το γεγονός ότι επειδή έτσι του κάπνισε, το iPhone αποφάσισε να μην αναγνωρίζει τις κλήσεις που δέχομαι. Όντας Windows user, κάνοντας ένα restart το πρόβλημα διορθώθηκε. Είτε Apple έχεις, είτε Microsoft, οι λύσεις απ' ό,τι φαίνεται είναι οι ίδιες...

The European Commission have just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU, rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five year phase in plan that would be known as "EuroEnglish". In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump for joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of the "k". This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with the "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e"s in the languag is disgraseful, and they should go away.

By the 4th year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After zis fifz year, ve vil hav a realy sensiblriten styl. zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi to understand each ozer.

Βραδυάτικα! Διαβάζοντας το ποστ της Ψιλικατζούς στο AllWe.tv, καθώς και βλέποντας της νέες πινακίδες του ΚΟΚ που έφτιαξε ο Γιώργος Μαργαρίτης , νομίζω ότι το λιγότερο που μπορούμε να κάνουμε για να βοηθήσουμε την κατάσταση που επικρατεί στην Ελλάδα είναι να γίνουμε δημιουργικοί! Έτσι, κάθησα και έκανα ένα απλό bannerάκι, μπορεί να ακολουθήσουν και περισσότερα- πάντως όποιος θέλει, μπορεί να τό χρησιμοποιήσει, να το αλλάξει τα φώτα, ό,τι θέλει.

Τό έφτιαξα σε Inkscape .

Χτίζοντας βιβλιοθήκη

Σε περίπτωση που αισθάνεστε γενναιόδωροι, τώρα μπορείτε, χωρίς να μάς ρωτήσετε, να μάς κάνετε δώρο ένα βιβλίο (και δύο, και τρία!), απλά κάνοντας click επάνω δεξιά στο tab "Books Wanted".

Το παραπάνω μήνυμα στοχεύει αποκλειστικά σε ορισμένους αναγνώστες του blog μας!

Αν όμως έχετε κάποιο (κάποια) από αυτά τα βιβλία, τότε είστε ευπρόσδεκτοι, εφόσον το επιθυμείτε, να μάς το (τα) δανείσετε. Το βιβλίο σας θα είναι ασφαλές, θα τού συμπεριφερθούμε με απόλυτο σεβασμό και θα σάς επιστραφεί σε μικρό χρονικό διάστημα. Αν δεν κρατήσουμε το λόγο μας, μπορείτε φυσικά να μας κράξετε..!

Once you tell someone that you have been fired for reasons beyond your control, their first and most obvious reaction is almost identical;

So, are you looking for a job then?

For some reason, people (especially "young", aged 25-30) think that there are no other things in life to do during weekdays but work from 9am to 6pm (9-5 is not really valid, is it?). Apparently, sitting in an office, pretending to busy with something that has been flagged important in your MS Outlook Inbox (with the appropriate red flag from people who don't even know how to change their email settings), while all you do is surf the internet for shoes, clothes, gadgets, news, air tickets, whatever but work, appears extremely appealing to these young people who consider themselves "professionals" and "career-oriented".

The second, and not so obvious but rather subconscious, reaction is an instantaneous flash of fear in their eyes and a slight tremble in their voice; for the terrible thought has just crossed their minds:

What if it was ME?

I don't know whether we have been brainwashed, indoctrinated or pumped up with so much fear regarding employment that we see no other way, no other alternative; however, it is almost certain that millions of young, university-educated "professionals" that have chosen the employee route will be incapable of dealing with an involuntary and prolonged absence from an office environment.

What to do when you are made redundant

I guess it is normal to search the internet for "escape routes" of your (any) current situation. For example, if you have a job that numbs your brain from the moment you walk in the office, bores you to death, makes you wonder what this, or better your, life is for, you tend to type in search engines the following:

"Bored at work "

and then you see that it's not only you that feel the same but there are millions of other people that share your frustration and anxiety.

Similarly, when you have been made redundant, a euphimism for being fired, sacked, terminated, rejected by the system (of course YOU are not made redundant, it's the position!), etc, etc, you sit at home, in your pyjamas and type:

Now, there are, of course, thousands of results. However, there is a common theme to this situation analysis. On almost every article you read, the writer assumes that you are scared shitless being made redundant; you panic, sweat, feel miserable; your self-esteem follows the current trajectory of all stockmarkets' indeces combined; you want to cry.

Of course, all the above make the assumption that YOU ARE IN DEBT! You see, a "decent" quality of life means that YOU ARE IN DEBT! You want your own place to live and raise a family? YOU ARE IN DEBT! You want a car to drive around? YOU ARE IN DEBT! You want to go on holiday? Guess what? YOU ARE IN DEBT! If you believe these life gurus, there aren't many people out there that are not indebted to a bank, a building society or their local usurer.

If you have been stuck in your boring 9-5 job just to pay off this decent way of life and have been made redundant involuntarily, well, I don't want to be the one to break the news to you, but you are f'd in the A! Nevertheless, I would like to examine what happens if you have been stuck in your job just because you don't really know what else to do, you have no debts (hey, you might even have some savings on the side!) and have been fired.

The first thing that you realise is that you don't feel all these negative feelings; no anxiety, no frustration, no desparation, no tears. Just a sense of relief that "tomorrow I won't have to wake up at 06:50"! I have turned off my alarm clock. I have started wearing my watch less and less. No more "one more hour to go" or "come on five-thirty".

Secondly, you don't need to pretend that I am doing something. I think that this is the most stressful aspect of an office job; it's alright if you have a constant flow of work all day, from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out, but I've never had a job like that; and, honestly, I've never met anyone that has. Most of the people that claim they have absolutely no time to do anything but work, they are either lying or they don't know how to do their job properly.

Thirdly, you don't need as much money now as you need when at work! Monthly train (animal carriers more likely) tickets, everyday mochas, lattes, sandwiches, sushi, drinks, the odd beer midweek, it all adds up. To A LOT! But no more; you cook your meals. No more stressing out about which Pret or Eat "fresh" baguette with an exotic name to have; no more £2.50 cups of coffee; no more... you get my drift!

Indeed, being made redundant is not always a bad thing! You might have to be more cautious with your spending but hey, sustainability is the new black! Consuming is sooooo last century! You have more time to do all the things that you were daydreaming about in the office. This is the most positive aspect of having no job: you have time! For YOU and the people that you care..!
