Tonight’s Dateline NBC called Bringing Brooke Home featured the story of Brooke Wilberger’s murder. Ultimately on the show, Brooke got justice, but it was hard to watch. Kate Snow was reporting. The killer’s family actually pieced together the information that their family member Joel Courtney was the murderer. It is amazing that Brooke’s family was able to get justice. Dateline followed the story of the most publicized murder in the history of the State of Oregon. In May 2004, Courtney raped and then murdered 19-year-old Brooke Wilberger. Corvallis was rocked by the girl's disappearance.

Courtney had disappeared during the time of the murder, and when he came back, Courtney told his family an unbelievable story. During the episode, Courtney’s family even remembered his life especially right after Wilberger disappeared. His sister Dina said, “He walked through the door and announced kind of loudly, you'll never believe where I've been. I said okay, where were you? I was kidnapped, (he said). There were these guys. They had guns and knives and we were in the woods. It was rainy and cold and there was a girl there and we were hiding. And y'know there was blood and it was awful.”

The break in this case came when a similar case happened in New Mexico. This time the victim survived, and she testified against her attacker. Finally, all the pieces came together, and the family was able to bring Brooke home once and for all.

The toughest part of tonight’s Dateline NBC was listening to Brooke Willberger’s mother actually thank her daughter’s killer for telling her where he left Brooke’s body. It is nearly unbelievable that she was in that sort of situation. In return for his information, Joel Courtney received life in prison instead of the death penalty for his crime.

One Oklahoma City dad named Kent said, “I don’t see how the family was able to handle this situation with such grace. As a father I’m not sure I would be able to do what the Wilbergers did.”

Last week when the protests began in Egypt, Dictator Hosni Mubarak used an internet kill switch in Egypt in order to thwart the organization of further protests. This proved to be a futile measure as the nation is on the verge of upheavel.

Now, some people are pushing the panic button in the United States - afraid that President Obama will implement an internet kill switch, aptly referred to as "The Obama Kill Switch." After all, Senator Joseph Lieberman is looking to push a bill through which will allow the government to shut off the internet so as to prevent the further spread of a catastrophic cyber attack.

Alas, many bloggers and conspiracy theorists are taking to the internet to decry the new boogyman - the Obama kill switch, which will be used to thwart uprisings and protests. A blogger from the site Deathandtaxes proposes a scenario in which a "dual internet" exists which would allow business as usual to continue while "us plebes were stuck with a permanent Fail Whale" after the Obama kill switch was pushed.

According to wired.com internet kill switch legislation is back on the table and could become a reality, which would grant Obama the same power that Mubarak used to cause an internet blackout in Egypt.

It's a big stretch to suggest that the Obama Adminstration is going to implement a so-called internet kill switch to trample our freedoms. Anyone with a knowledge of how infrastructure works will tell you that it's easier said than done. Added to that, this would stop our economy and cause a cascading effect throughout the world. Imagine if the United States economy was shut down for a day or a few days; it would spell doom for the global economy.

Furthermore, the situation in Egypt is proof that shutting down the internet cannot stop citizens from mobilizing, which is a testament to the power of humans. The human condition transcends technology and did just fine before the internet. And, it can do fine without it.

Sometimes you just need a little Hallmark Hall of Fame brand romance on a Sunday night. On Jan. 30, CBS premieres "The Lost Valentine," in which Jennifer Love Hewitt plays a reporter assigned to profile a World War II widow, played by Betty White - who, by the way, took home a Screen Actors Guild award for best comedic TV actress on the same night.

The film centers on the Valentine's Day theme -- every year on Feb. 14, White's character Caroline returns to the train station where she bid goodbye to the love of her life 65 years earlier. Caroline was pregnant with his child when he left - a child he never met, at his plane went missing over the Pacific.

As Hewitt's character, Susan, tries to discover what really happened to the naval pilot, she finds herself in a love story of her own, with Caroline's grandson Lucas (Sean Faris). Based on the novel by James Michael Pratt, the movie is, unsurprisingly, quite the tearjerker.

Starlet Emma Roberts ditched the awards show glam and joined Justin Bieber and NASCAR stars Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle to appear on ABC Sunday's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" in honor of the Remember Alex Brown Foundation, a nonprofit organized after 17-year-old Alexandra Brown rolled her pickup truck and died on her way to school. She was texting and driving.

After being alerted that her daughter hadn't made it to school, Alex's mother Jeannie drove out to find the wreck of the truck. "Although no other vehicles were involved, Alex was not alone," she writes on the Foundation's official website. "The cell phone on which she had sent and receive over 10,000 text messages in the weeks preceding her accident was with her."

Volunteers arrived at the Brown home in Lubbock, TX to rebuild their home - now occupied by the remaining three family members, Jeanne, Johnny Mac, and Alex's 12-year-old sister Katrina a year after Alex's death.

"If Alex was here and seeing all this she would be so excited for us," Katrina told reporters. "She'd be like, 'I'm so glad y'all are getting this! Y'all are doing good. Keep going.'"

The Browns decided to start the Remember Alex Brown Foundation the day she died. "I chose to do it that day at the hospital," her father says. "We have to put the [wrecked] truck on a trailer and we have to go to schools and tell people about the dangers of texting and driving."

"Extreme Makeover" asked Roberts to join in for two reasons. "She's an incredible young actress," said Ty Pennington, "and she's a teen so she understands how big of an epidemic texting and driving is."

"After hearing Alex's story I just think texting and driving is really a problem," Roberts says. "To hear that this happened to someone so young -- that really kind of was a little bit of a wake-up call. I have a nine year old sister and to think of her losing me, or me losing her -- I can't even comprehend that."

International Auto Show : New Kuga gets in Eshape crossover

The car is called the Vertrek, and is only a concept for now – but design boss Martin Smith says it’s very close to the production version, which insiders are  tipping for a mid-2012 UK launch. It’s said to be more versatile and cheaper to run than the present model, thanks  to increased space and EcoBoost petrol turbos with stop-start.

What’s more, Ford  will sell it in the US and the rest of the world for the first time. As with the latest Fiesta, Focus and C-MAX, the new Kuga is a global car – which means it will replace the conservatively styled Escape in America, while also reaching markets as far afield as China. Ford believes converging worldwide tastes will ensure that  the newcomer’s looks will prove a  big hit all  over  the planet. “It brings new  excitement to the crossover  and compact SUV arena, and is our vision of how kinetic design can redefine this growing market segment globally,” said styling boss J Mays. “The ‘Vertrek’ name signals versatility and capability, typifying the personality of the revolution in this market.”

Following owner criticism of the current Kuga’s limited load space and rear legroom, the car  is 100mm longer – with 100mm more in the wheelbase – and 50mm wider. As a result, Ford says it’s more practical, offering up to 20 per cent extra space. So expect a load capacity of around 440 litres with the rear seats in place and a 1,600-litre maximum.

If the Vertrek’s styling is carried through to production, the new Kuga should be a handsome machine. Its design evolves the current model’s look, dividing the lower trapezoidal grille into three (just like on the new Focus), with slimmer lights front and rear.

A fresh feature is the raised bonnet bulge, which carries through to the panoramic glass roof. The chunky wheelarches and steeply angled C-pillar are retained, and the muscular details are emphasised by striking Liquid Platinum paintwork.

“The building blocks of kinetic design are in line with what we believe customers want in future compact SUVs,” said executive design director Martin Smith. “They include defining the stance and how the body is set over the wheels; strong and precisely  executed surfacing; dynamic, expressive lines; and a sleeker aerodynamic profile.” Inside, themes from the new Focus and C-MAX are evolved, with a bold, wing-like facia. This extends through the side glass into rear view cameras which replace  traditional wing mirrors.

The instrument panel is wrapped in Dusk Grey leather, contrasted by satin materials on the console, while the four super- slim seats are covered in tanned, velour leather, with the “robust quality of Bavarian Lederhosen”, according to Smith. Neon red-orange highlights contrast with these colours and materials.

While the concept has space for four, the production version will be a five-seater. There are rumours of a sportier three-door in future. The car will be stacked with kit, too, including Ford’s SYNC package – an infotainment system featuring a music hard drive and Internet access via any mobile device such as a smartphone. There will also be active parking, a blind spot alert and traffic sign recognition.

Under the bonnet, the Vertrek is powered by the latest 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol turbo, with stop-start. Smart regenerative braking converts energy from the anchors to electrical energy in order to top up the battery and power  various in-car functions.

The new Kuga will also come with Ford’s latest 2.0-litre TDCi diesel. But unlike in the C-MAX and Focus, Ford is hinting that  it won’t be available with hybrid or electric power – bosses claim buyers will use their cars for ‘weekend getaways’, which makes motorway performance a priority. The Kuga replacement is tipped to get the same part-time 4WD as the current car, with a front-driven model available, too.

There’s more in store for Ford crossovers in the coming months, with the eagerly awaited Fiesta-based compact SUV – the B-MAX – due to debut at March’sGeneva Motor Show. And the Focus range is likely to be further boosted by a much-rumoured Focus Coupé later in the year.

If you’re the owner of a small service business, having a solid Internet marketing plan in place can both increase your name and brand recognition locally in your geographic area, as well as expose you to a whole new set of potential clients throughout the world. If you have a business plan or vision that is written, you only need to integrate this Internet marketing piece into that existing plan. However, if you are like many of my clients, you carry your business and marketing plans in your head without bothering to commit anything to paper.

Here are ten considerations you need to make as you complete your Internet marketing plan:

1. Objective of Internet Marketing Plan: What do you want to accomplish by using Internet marketing? To find new clients? Provide services and info to existing clients? Sell services or products? Educate your target market or your staff about your product or service? Create an online community for your target market? How much money to have to spend each month on this Internet marketing plan? Having a goal and budget in mind will make your marketing more effective.

2. Marketing Funnel: The most successful online business owners have a marketing funnel (think of it as an upside down triangle) through which they “funnel” clients. The process begins from the wide top of the funnel, representing low-cost products or free give-aways, and moving clients down through the funnel to the narrower portions which represent gradually increasing investments from the clients from your higher-priced products and services. What products and services do you currently offer? Are they at varied price points that would create a funnel effect? What plans do you have to increase your product or service line? Will those new offerings plug gaps in your marketing funnel?

3. Your Competition: Knowing and understanding where you stand among your competitors can you help you strengthen your marketing message. Do a keyword search for the terms someone might use to find your business online. Write down the URL’s of your top 5 competitors. How popular and relevant are their sites? You can check their traffic ranking with Alexa, http://www.alexa.com/#traffic, as well as see what other sites link to them. Does your competition offer something unique? Where are the gaps in the service or product offerings?

4. Target Market: Instead of trying to marketing to everyone (the shotgun marketing approach), find a clearly definable target market that you can easily describe and locate. Are they male or female? What age group? What industry? What socio-economic group? Where do they hang out on- and off-line? What do they read? To what groups and associations (real and virtual, personal and professional) do they belong? How much money do they make? Can they easily afford your product or service? What keywords are they using to search for businesses like yours online? (Note–you can do keyword research with free downloadable software, http://www.GoodKeywords.com).

5. Solution to a Problem: The reason that someone will buy your product or hire to you to provide a service is to solve a particular problem that they have. What problems and issues plague your target market? How does your product or service solve that problem? How does your solution differ from that of your competitors? What makes you uniquely qualified to provide the solution to their problem?

6. Branding Your Business: Your domain name can either help you be memorable or cast you into a sea of “brandless” solutions. At a minimum, you’ll want to buy both your personal name as well as the name of your business in the .com version, if it’s available. Then buy the .com versions of your product names and program names. If you use a full-featured domain registrar, you’ll be able to point and mask these domains to internal pages of your web site, or use them as stand-alone sales letter pages.

You may also think of problems faced by your target market or solutions that you provide and buy domain names in the .com version of those as well. Internet marketer Dean Jackson brands his ebook on how to stop a divorce by owning the domain name, StopYourDivorce.com, This is a compelling solution to his target market — men who have been ignoring their wives’ complaints of marital dissatisfaction and come home one day to an empty house and a note telling him that she’s filing for divorce.

7. Assess your website. Your web site should be visually appealing, with one primary font for the text and a simple primary color scheme, along with an easy-to-navigate layout, and readily identifiable buttons to link to other pages in the site. Your content should focus on and address the problems of your visitors and how your product or service can help solve their problems. Rather than listing the features of your product or service, detail the benefits they’ll gain from purchasing your product or service. People rarely buy features — they buy benefits. Don’t depend on your web site designer to write your content — that is best done by you, as you know your business and your target market better than anyone.

Present a clear call to action that is clearly shown on every page of your site. In an online business, your primary call to action should be getting the visitor’s name and primary email address by asking him subscribe to your ezine or by giving him access to a free ecourse, special report, audio recording, or ebook. Lastly, provide an abundace of readily available information to demonstrate your expertise (articles, blog posts, free downloads, giveaways, contests). Your visitor is always asking WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) — make your web site about your visitor, not about you.

8. Online Business Management Technology: Do you have access to the appropriate services and technology that will help you sell your product or service online? At a minimum you’ll need a merchant account (permits you to take credit card payments) that includes a virtual gateway (enables you to process transactions online) and a full-featured shopping cart that will permit you to sell both physical and electronic products and create a series of autoresponders to follow up with buyers and non-buyers alike.
