Looks like Bruce Carey is involved & here is the scoop from PDX Eater:

Like pizza? So does Bruce Carey. Eater has heard that the cool dude behind BCR and such established eateries as Bluehour, Saucebox, 23Hoyt and clarklewis is looking to expand his empire to include one incredibly haute pie joint. Word is that Via Tribunali will pop up downtown and will be a co-venture with another restaurant group that's already started to make a splash in the Portland market. No word on when Via Tribunali will actually open, as the venture is still in the early stages. And on Monday Jillian Koziol, the former private events coordinator for New York’s well-respected Blue Hill at Stone Barns will join Carey’s crew as BCR’s events person. Eater has been told that Koziol is the wife of Clyde Common Sous-Chef Chris DiMinno.

can't wait...

Mee Sen Thai Eatery

Finally got up to the Mississippi District (& dodged the line @ Miss Studios to see The Cribs) to try the new Thai Eatery: Mee Sen. OHS will be on site with dogs for adoption and Che’ Cafe will be offering $1 soups with all proceeds going to OHS. If you bring your own dog for Terri (the owner) to pet, you’ll get a bag of Bub grub jerky treats! Also, if you bring a toy or food to donate to OHS, you get a $2 coupon for Che’ Cafe. I think it is a win win situation and I have 2 little chihuahuas who would love to meet other dogs. As an added bonus, Vergnetti’s coffee which is also at the same location will be donating 15% of their sales to OHS.

Che’ Cafe is located at the corner of N Williams and Shaver and serves up sandwiches and hamburgers, pasta and salads. There have been a lot of construction setbacks since the beginning of the project, but we are finally awaiting the arrival of the wood oven, ice cream case and other exciting things.

Also, at the end of this month, Lovely Hula Hands will be closing. The reasons for this are many, but in the end it comes down to one thing above all. When we first opened the restaurant six years ago, a family member was our chef. As time went on and this changed, we found ourselves in the position of running a restaurant from the front of the house. That is, we relied on someone from outside the family to direct the kitchen. As you know from the loyalty of our customers and the critical reception that Lovely Hula Hands has received, we have always been lucky with the talented people we’ve chosen. But now it just makes sense for us to focus on our new venture 100 % and have more of a hand in the production of the things we serve.

We plan to have a great final month at Lovely Hula Hands and finish strong with the same seasonal menu, cocktails, etc. New Years Eve will be our last night open. We hope to see many of you this month at least one more time and we hope to keep seeing you next door at Lovely’s Fifty-Fifty. It will have a lot of things in common with LHH- a seasonal menu, buying exclusively from local farmers and ranchers, a hefty list of salads and starters, and even one or two wood fired entrees along with the pizza offerings. We will also have six flavors of seasonal homemade ice cream in a big case up front and people can get a scoop or a pint to go. Our current staff will stay with us and work next door, so no one is being put out of work in this economy.

We want to deeply thank all of our loyal customers and staff for the last six years. It has honestly been a pleasure running this restaurant.

Finally, please note that we will be honoring Gift Certificates for Lovely Hula Hands next door at Lovely’s Fifty-Fifty. If you have one and can’t get in this month, please use it there.

Sincerely, Sarah and Jane Minnick

Please visit www.lovelyhulahands.com for updates and current menus.
You can find more in the coming days at our new website,
www.lovelyfiftyfifty.com

Bluehour: Santa Brunch

URL >>>> http://www.bluehouronline.com/email_dec09.html

Portland's Garden State makes GMA's top four food carts

Kevin Sandri's food cart, Garden State, has apparently made the top four on Good Morning America Weekend's Best Food Cart Challenge, or the crew would not have been in Sellwood this morning filming a segment for this weekend's edition.

With Kevin's mom, wife, new baby daughter (2 months and adorable) and friends watching in hushed excitement, GMA's Ron Claiborne got a first-hand tutorial from Kevin on making one of Garden State's famous chickpea sandwiches. Claiborne, who managed to neatly eat the vegetarian monster topped with Gathering Together Farms' greens, and home-made aioli while filming, gave it a thumbs up, and -- without missing a beat -- asked which pot contained Kevin's famous meatballs.

Garden State – yes, Kevin hails from New Jersey -- is about to "expand," with a second cart opening at the new North Mississippi hotspot, Mississippi Marketplace.
