Vacation houses...

We have been exploring California one County at a time. How do we get by with the accommodations? Well, a good friend heard from a friend that there is an economical way to travel. Instead of booking expensive hotel rooms, with no kitchen and no privacy at all why not rent a house for three or so days.. So there we discovered " Vacation Rental by Owners" ( VRBO). They are normally cheaper than B&Bs and Hotels, for you only pay a per night fee, a one time cleaning fee and a refundable security deposit.

We first used VRBO during a trip to Lake Tahoe. Since we are a group of 6, renting a vacation house was a must.

The house we rented was complete, all we had to bring was food and that's it, we were all set. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils and appliances. There's even washer and dryer and oh, free wifi internet. Nevermind, the crappy cable tv, after all we were there to relax, see some sights and have fun.. The nightly rate was $200, there were three bedrooms plus a loft with a bunk bed and a pull out bed, not bad eh?

For Thanksgiving, we decided to go to Clear Lake Oaks, where there is no snow and has a good view of the lake. We were three families, and since it is Thanksgiving most restaurants are closed so, a vacation house is a perfect option so that we can cook, eat in and celebrate Thanksgiving in a house near the lake. The house we got had three bedrooms, the master bedroom had a HUGE bathroom with jetted tub, and the view of the lake is just amazing!! And since we went there off season, we only paid $370 for three nights and the cleaning fee..

My "Adult Bully"

"The only thing I'm guilty of is humiliating a bully" so says Dr. House in an old House episode I watched the other day. Come to think of it, I am guilty of that as well, not as a bully but as someone who spoke her mind off and went against the supposed "leader of the group".

Bullying happens in all ages, not just in kids at school or at play. In fact that's where they start. They start at an early age, they bully kids for their lunch money, for a cool toy or anything that you own that caught their attention. They become popular and feared off by the rest of the kids. They are regarded as someone who is cool as you'd want to join him if you can't beat him. (Self preservation is a must.) They glorify him as if he owns the world or that it only revolves around him. He is only sensitive to his feelings and doesn't care about yours..

Bullies come in different shapes and sizes, short and tall, fat and thin. My bully was short and fat. Come to think of it, I've never met a bully who's tall and thin. They're mostly fat, stocky, and definitely not thin for they need the weight and the size to prove their point. Plus thin and tall sometimes equates to being a wimp and you can't be a bully if you are a wimp in the first place. I'd say, The short and fat ones are the rudest of them all for they surround themselves with several minions as to cope up with their lack of height. They terrorize more than your average bully as they are one too many.

Bullying comes in various types and forms and for me I've classified them as the ordinary kid bullying, there's the adult bullying and then in the golden age of internet and particularly Social Networks, there's cyber bullying. My bully was an adult one and a cyber as well or perhaps he's all three. He's gotta start somewhere anyway,lucky me I've met him only when I was in my late 20s. He masqueraded himself as a friend when I first met him so as to see if I can be a part of his group or one of those who he would terrorize. Initially, I got in, I was cool for him then things changed. I was now a looser, a wimp and someone who he can push over. Life was easy when I was still "in" his circle for all I had to do was say yes to all he says, say no when he says no,laugh at his corny jokes, take all his hurtful remarks as constructive criticisms, all in all just bow down to what he says and do and everything was bright and shiny!But if and when you dare question what he says, you know you are into a big fight with him and the rest of the group who are still jaded. He dictated what was cool and what was not, he planned for everything,leaving no room for your suggestions. He even bullied his way up, hang us dry when he saw that we were useless and that we might be going up as well.

So when the time came that I had to speak up,let my feelings be known to him and to the rest of the pack, I got booted out of the "cool group", instead I became a competitor,he made me look like as if I am the villain and he is the hero. He turned my (so called) friends against me, and had fun at my expense. When I was down and low he kicked me, and made fun of me, and that was the end of it and the start of me living. Living my own life, without having to abide by his rules, without thinking of what I am doing is cool for him or not, I dress up and say what I say as I want to and not in accordance to him. I buy stuff as I please and not to please him. Now I find life as lovely as ever, no rules, no constrictions, no bully... When I am amongst friends, I am who I really am, no mask to wear, no walking on thin glass, I am who I am..

Well of course, the story doesn't end there, he still bullies me cyberly (if there is such a word),fb comments here and there,says things behind my back and laughs at my expense still. But that's who he is, that how he really is. He shows strength but deep inside him you know he is weak. He craves attention for no one really listens to him, for those who listens to him are those who are scared of him.

He is a bully and forever he will be, only if and when you let him be...

So far I have three out of the five limited eds..I got the Eiffel Tower version from Bloomingdales at $135.00 last spring. Then the Statue Of Liberty, I got it from the New York Longchamp SOHO store for $140.00.. ( they do charge sends btw. =)). And the Great Wall of China edition was purchased by a friend in HongKong. I am not sure where exactly, but he told me that the LC store in the airport was out of stock that's why he had to get it in one of the shopping malls. Lucky for me! =)

The Galeries Lafayette exclusive can only be purchased at the Longchamp store inside the Galleries Lafayette store in Paris, France while the Miajima edition is only available in Japan. I have yet to find someone who can buy these for me or might as well go there myself!!.. =)

The great thing about the Le Pliage collection is that they are foldable and easy to store. Not to mention they are light weight and you can easily fit a lot of stuff in it. It is now my favorite bag to carry whenever I travel, I go to the grocery store or to theme parks even. It is perfect for rainy and winter weather as it doesn't get wet for it is made out of 100% polyamide canvas with PVC coating, cowhide leather trimmings.

By the way, Magnums.net carry several Longchamp styles at below retail price. For the limited edition ones, I'd check the Longchamp official website..

Two years....

It's officially been two years since we decided to TTC ( trying to conceive). So far we haven't been lucky yet. I have been into three IUI ( intrauterine insemination) sessions, one of which got me to celebrate the 4th of July weekend at the hospital.

TTC for us people who have problems conceiving is not for the weak of hearts. Some even told us that oh, it's the guy's problem, there is something wrong with him, maybe his swimmers are weak, but in our case it's not. As hard it is to accept, I am the one who has the problem. As per my RE ( Reproductive Endocrinologist), I am a fluke, my situation is unique, he can't even figure out what is wrong with me. I didn't have a problem with my 10 year old, I ovulate regularly, my monthly periods are normal. So what is wrong with me? Am I too stressed at work or the stress of conceiving is the killer? My Mom didn't have problems conceiving either, there's 4 of us even.. I guess only time will tell.. For now, we are keeping our hopes up, not giving up instead we are working on it even harder.

Flipped by Mino!

So I worked on a project to help out our marketing team. The task was to upload two videos into a Flip Mino. Twas a bit of a challenge, as the two videos were huge files! Aside from the fact that the Mino doesn't have that capability, or so they say. So after days of searching for a tool, ( me and Jamz worked on it together!) we were finally able to compress the videos and upload it! Yay..

That didn't end there though, part of the challenge was to load those two videos into each one of them 150 Minos! Whew! I finished it in two days and it was well worth it coz I get to take one for myself!

Not bad for two days work, the unit costs at least $150.00. It is lightweight and tiny! The camera quality isn't as good since it is only VGA, but the video is another story. It doesn't come with a separate usb plug for connecting to your pc/mac or not does it come with a charger, coz they are built in within the unit. Pretty neat! The software for the upload tool, FlipShare, is loaded inside the unit and once you plug it in your laptop, it will automatically install the program. The program lets you upload your videos into your computer, YouTube and even Facebook.

All in all, it was well worth it!

With so many deaths this past months, made me think if I die tomorrow, was I able to live my life to the fullest? I guess I have but let me write down my own "bucket list" to see how far have I been:

This list is in no particular order:

1. Travel: been to Malaysia, Singapore, HongKong, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia and of course the US. But I still haven't been to Europe so this one is still in my list

2. Have a baby: I have one but I still want a baby girl. So let's leave this one as well

3. Get married: Did this twice! LOL

4. Drive a black car: Had two black cars to date already!

5. Learn how to cook: Done and perfected it as well! HAH! :P

6. Be one of them Lady CEO: hmm, this one is a maybe.. ;-)

7. Buy a house: in PH we have one, in the US, coming soon I hope!

8. Own a Hermes Bag,a Kelly or a Birkin: Hmm..

9. Bring Mom to the US: done! and she's coming back!

10. Talk to my Dad.. yup this one is a biggie.. one that I don't want to talk about yet!

So I have been neglecting my blog duties ( if there is such a thing as that). Since Nico arrived and my Mom was with us for two months, we have been going around places to tour them.

Mom left a month ago and I am finally enjoying the joys of Motherhood after two years of being separated from my little boy. I am slowly getting the Mommyhood vibe back. Hectic as it is, with my work taking most of my time, I don't mind juggling time between work and home life. Believe me, no matter how hectic my work schedule can be sometimes, I make it a point that when I get home I will sit with Nico while he is working on his homework, prepare dinner and spend time with the hubby as well. No time for me? Oh well, my ME time is my time with my family and it is definitely worth it.

Anyway, I will be updating my blog with more stories soon so stay tune!

I have been waiting for Nico's arrival for the longest time. After two years, here he is now, in the US. So how is he? How is he liking the US so far?

My friend, Sarah thought she's one of them Powerpuff girls, until I told her who she is. LOL!She is Miss Marc, a creation of Marc Jacobs, the famous designer, from his MBMJ line (Marc by Marc Jacobs).The Miss Marc character has become one of the hottest cartoon icon among the whole fashion industry. I couldn't agree even more, this little miss is stylish and chic. She is a very loveable or hateable character ( depends on how you see her), usually with bug eyes, a down-turned mouth, and a quirky appearance that just doesn’t appeal to everyone.You'll see her everywhere, on a shirt, a beach towel,shoes, purse and even meet her different faces attached to a bracelet..

Let go, Move on or hold on?

One of the hardest things in life is letting go. Whether it be letting go of someone or something, tis really the hardest.

I remember during one of our afternoon walks around the neighborhood, I would see garage full of stuff, that owners cannot even park their cars inside it. Most people here use their garage as storage not as parking space, not to mention some of them even owning space at the local Storage unit. Why? They can not let go..

As I go through some of my clothes, trying hard to segregate what I'm going to keep, what I'm going to give out, I realized that some of my most loved clothes are still those that I got when my little boy was a year old and some even, have been with me since I was in college! Would you believe that.. I'm such a sentimental fool. Mind you, one of the shirt, was even a fake kero-keroppi shirt that I got from a flea market. I used to wear it whenever I go out, until it got soo beaten up that I made it my fave shirt for home use only and I still wear it, in fact I am wearing it right now! All of us, regardless of race, color or age, are collectors in our own weird way. We collect stuff that reminded us of either an event, such as trinkets from our own wedding, birthday, etc or a place where we've been to. Some collect spoons, magnets, even paper napkins! We don't let go of stuff that reminds us of that particular event or place, even until we have no more space to store it into.

Like in life, whenever someone dies, or a relationship ends, we really don't let go. There is really no letting go, we just simply try to put it aside for the time being until it's not too painful to talk about.

In relationships mostly, we would always seek out something we call closure. Most specially when you got dumped by someone and learned about it from someone else, with nothing at all not even a call, you would try to reason with that someone, try to know what really happened, and tell them that you need closure whereas in fact, you just need to know and try to save what's left of it. There is no such thing as closure, it's done and it's done, nothing more to say, nothing more to do. No more reasoning, no more saving. That's your closure.

In death, we would mourn till there is nothing more to it. We would cry our hearts out and question whoever God we look up to. Some regretting not being able to spend more time with the deceased, some just simply can not accept the fact that he's gone.

Then there are those instances that letting go is not an option. That holding on is a good thing, that quitting is such a bad idea. In those instances, be prepared to hold on as long as you can. Motivate yourself by looking at the end goal,don't give up. Don't move on until you get the prize..

Whether to let go or to hold on, either is painful at times, be prepared and remember to look at the bright side always. Everything always happens for a reason. Be it may that you had to let go, for sure there are other opportunities on the way, if you chose to hold on, then expect that whatever outcome it is you're waiting for, it'll happen, sooner or later.

I' m glad to finally have met my match, after years of waiting, wishing, hunting (LOL)! As I look back, I realized that had I not suffered heartbreaks from previous relationships, I wouldn't have met him. As cheesy as it may sound, it's true, I am in contact with some of my Exes in Facebook and they too have moved on. Funny, I am happy that somehow I didn't end up with them.. Don't get me wrong, at some point, I've loved each one of them and thought that one of them is my Soul mate.. I know they too, are happy with whom they ended up with and it's nice to finally moved on and be friends with them after what happened. Anyway, for those who haven't found their soulmate yet, I'd say don't loose hope, be patient, and you'll soon find the one..

Is it worth it?

News of a new iPhone have been buzzing since who knows when. And yesterday we all heard the news.. Yes, there is a new hardware and the best part is there is also an update for the software. Yay!!

So how is the new iPhone 3GS different from my iPhone 3G?

Let's see:

1. Cost and HD size: $299 for 32Gb and $199 for 16gb ( now they are selling its predecessor for $99)
2. Better camera with auto-focus and video recording at 3.2 Megapixel where as the old one is at 2.0 megapixel only
3. Built in Compass helps you find directions via google maps.
4. 2x faster performance, updated 3D graphics
5. Cut,copy and paste feature
6. Voice memos which is a recorder app
7. MMS capability
8. Landscape keyboard
9. Hardware looks pretty much the same..

I guess it's not worth it to upgrade after all, at least for me.

Why?
1. I just got my iPhone 3G last December and upgrading means adding another line which I don't need.
2. Camera upgrade is nice, but I don't think I need it, I have my trusty Sony T500 in my purse all the time.
3. The built in Compass sounds promising, but then I still have my Garmin Nuvi which is pretty much handy plus both of our cars has Navi system so an upgrade will be more of a "nice to have" rather than a "need".
4. More space at 32GB? Hmm.. I have an 8gb and honestly, I have not been able to fill it up with stuff.

Bottomline is, I am still happy with my iPhone 3G, Id rather wait for another two years to upgrade. Who knows by then, its going to be Quadband (which some phones are already), dual camera and push to talk features ( which an N80 and other Nokia models have for the longest time),and I whole lot of cool stuff!

I guess Ive outgrown the need (or should I say want) to get the latest phone available in the market. I feel that Apple is now how Nokia was and still is with coming up with new phone models.

by the way,items 5 to 8, are available via software update for iPhone 3G and iPod touch users.. Which made it even more not worth it to upgrade to iPhone 3GS..

It's been six months and so far we've not been lucky YET! Still on TTC stage and now I'm on my TWW again for this month. I don't know what's wrong, I've been religiously temping and charting, and somehow we always missed that window. I guess it's not the time yet. Well, a lot of things will change soon and we're pretty much excited. I just have to take it one step at a time. Not rush things, be patient and most of all keep trying!! It's going to be alright!

Surround sound in the comforts of your own car

We've heard about the drive in movie theaters since we moved here in Ca but never got the chance to try it until last Sunday. It was a 20 min drive from our place. This Drive in theater is one of the few remaining here in CA.

Tickets are at $6.75 per head ( not per car)for two movies. Kids below 11 yrs old get to watch for free. We watched Star Trek and Monsters VS Aliens, it was a pretty nice set up. You get in, pay and they give you the station to tune in to for which movie you want to watch. You have the option to watch it inside your car or just like what the others did, parked backwards,took out foldable seats, sound blasting out of their car's speakers and watched it outdoors! Since we drove in using Jamz' Acura RDX we were able to test the SuV's speakers, imagine leather seat, moon roof half open and sound surround! We watched Star Trek underneath the stars ( pun intended!), talk about romantic!

Oh and did I mention, the food is great? I love their cheeseburger and the hotdogs are not bad either!

Movie starts at 830pm every night all year round. The movies that they are showing are first run movies ( current movies you can watch from a regular theater), the plus side is that you get to watch two movies for the price of one and of course minus annoying noises from fellow movie watchers.

We've started walking 3 miles every day in an attempt to help Jamz get his old weight back. I don't need to burn calories, but since he won't do it alone, so I have no choice but to go with him. So be it..

After seeing an advertisement for the new Sports Active game for the Wii, made me think if walking is indeed such a good idea..

EA sports just released this new game that will supposedly help you lose those unwanted weight. It features 12 workout programs that will help you reach your goal.I guess this is all worth it, we can do multi-player exercises at the comforts of our home.
