Travelocity.com review:

Traveler Type: Family Trip, With Children, With Teens
Had a great one-night stay
from Los Angeles, CA – Would stay again
Stayed Aug 2008, 1 day Most Recent Stay

Our family stayed here for one night on the way home from a trip up the coast. After a full day of driving in the car, we needed a good night’s sleep, and we got it here. The lobby and housekeeping staff were very helpful and friendly and quickly jumped to assist us with two requests. Our room was spotlessly clean, and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. They had several different styles of pillows to suit everyone’s preferences. The room was soundproofed very well and despite having the 101 freeway directly out our window, traffic noise was never an issue. We all slept very well. This was our first stay ever at a Doubletree but the whole family was impressed.

Doubletree Hotels, Suites, Resorts and Clubs have built a reputation on a unique treat that keeps leisure and business travelers coming back for more: its legendary chocolate chip cookie presented to each guest at check-in. Synonymous with Doubletree hospitality, the cookie has played a starring role in differentiating the Doubletree hotel brand from its competition. Following are a few “tid-bites” about the Doubletree chocolate chip cookie:

~Across America, Doubletree gives out approximately 29,000 chocolate chip cookies each day. That’s more than 10,500,000 each year!

~Doubletree began giving out chocolate chip cookies in the early 1980s, when many properties across the country used them as treats for VIPs.

~In 1995, Doubletree enlisted the services of Nashville-based Christie Cookie Company to hold the brand’s secret recipe, which ensures that the same, delicious cookie is delivered consistently at every Doubletree property.

~Every Doubletree chocolate chip cookie is baked fresh daily at each property.
Each cookie weighs a hearty 2 ½ ounces and has an average of 20 chocolate chips.
The Christie Cookie Company uses more than 580,000 pounds of chocolate chips each year for Doubletree’s cookies.

~In June 2002, Doubletree gave its 100,000,000th cookie!

~To date, more than 125,000,000 cookies have been served to delighted guests and customers.

~During the past three years, children participating in Doubletree’s Teaching Kids to CARE community outreach program have donated more than 750,000 chocolate chip cookies to people ranging from doctors and nurses, police and firefighters, to non-profit groups such as orphanages, food banks and homeless shelters.

A sweet treat tin or individual bag of Doubletree cookies can now be purchased directly at the Doubletree Hotel San Jose. So whether planning a visit www.sanjose.doubletree.com or craving a sweet treat to enjoy at home, stop by the Doubletree Hotel San Jose and purchase your own tin of yummy Doubletree chocolate chip cookies.

Hotelier Pledges to Plant Trees With The Arbor Day Foundation for Every Medal Team USA. Brings Home

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (August 11, 2008) – Doubletree Hotels today announced a unique environmental tribute to celebrate accomplishments by some of the world’s most talented athletes this summer. For every medal Team USA receives at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games, Doubletree will donate trees to a variety of need-based, reforestation projects across America through the Arbor Day Foundation®.

· For every gold medal, Doubletree will donate 100 trees to be planted in the athlete’s honor

· For every silver medal, Doubletree will donate 50 trees to be planted in the athlete’s honor

· For every bronze medal, Doubletree will donate 25 trees to be planted in the athlete’s honor

The countdown campaign for the Doubletree U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Commemorative Forest initiative began with the first medal events received on August 9th and will continue through the close of the Paralympic Games on September 17, 2008. Each medal-winning athlete will receive a tree-planting certificate in dedication of their incredible achievement.

As a member of The Hilton Family of Hotels – a proud sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams – Doubletree Hotels is encouraging Americans to embrace the Olympic spirit by cheering on athletes in their own special way as they come together to participate in the world’s greatest sporting event. With hundreds of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes competing in the 2008 Games amongst a range of different sports, this unique initiative has the potential to create an Olympic Commemorative Forest of more than 10,000 new trees. These trees will be planted by the Arbor Day Foundation and their local affiliate organizations in national, state and regional parks, forests and communities that have been devastated by natural disasters, tree diseases and other blights.

According to the Air Transport Association, an estimated 1.3 percent fewer Americans are expected to fly this summer versus the same season last year – with many families choosing to explore local attractions in their hometowns. A wide variety of value-added packages and amenities that have been designed by Doubletree® Hotels to guarantee that even a ‘staycation’ or local area getaway this summer can feel like miles away from home.

“People across America are still finding great places for an economical summer vacation. This year, it’s interesting how many people are becoming tourists in their own town or region and exploring some of those great nearby attractions they tend to take for granted,” said Mary Beth Parks, vice president, brand marketing for Doubletree Hotels. “With more than 190 hotels and resorts located throughout the U.S. and Canada, there’s always a Doubletree hotel or resort that is less than a one-tank trip away. Travelers can save the extra travel time, check in with us, get away from the daily routine at home and enjoy more valuable time with friends and family – all at a place even closer to home than they think.”

Famed travel expert and author of TheTravelMom.com, Emily Kaufman, agrees that the staycation trend is smart way to travel. “Consumers are still eager to take vacations this summer – they are just becoming more resourceful given gas prices and the current economic climate,” says Kaufman. “Value-added packages like the ones offered at Doubletree Hotels provide the perfect opportunity for travelers to avoid the extra gas expenses, additional baggage charges and long lines at the airport to enjoy a cost effective vacation.”

So just how can travelers enjoy a great summer getaway without traveling far from home? Kaufman offers her top five tips for travelers looking to make the most out of their “staycation” below.
• Surf your local area travel websites – Just as people search websites for those faraway vacations, even your own city has a series of travel and visitors bureau sites that provides detailed lists and information for local attractions. All it takes is a slightly different way of web surfing for that summer staycation and consumers can find all sorts of activities and adventures right in their own backyard.
• Love The Ones You’re With – Whether you’re miles from home on an exotic island or minutes from your own front door, the memories you create can be just as great. Take the extra time you get from avoiding the long-haul travel hassles to enjoy the people you’re traveling with. Be sure to take just as many photos too … it’ll make the emotional ties to your destination that much stronger.
• Pick Your Vacation Personality – Make sure that you are creating vacation opportunities that offer something for everyone by picking places that match the personality of people you travel with. For example, do you like to explore new places with sightseeing, museums and attractions or does sitting by the pool relaxing with a book fit your family better? You can easily find all of the above not far from home.
• Stop Speeding Ahead And Slow Down– We live in a busy world with everyone running from one chore or activity to the next every day. It seems obvious, but sometimes it’s hard to remind ourselves that vacations are a time to slow down, unwind and spend meaningful time enjoying the company of the ones we love.
• Save some energy – Turn off the air conditioner at home and leave the hospitality to the hoteliers. Even better, choose a local hotel with a pool to cool off in and enjoy that refreshing plunge in the pool.

KUNSHAN, China, July 22, 2008 – Doubletree by Hilton®, one of the upscale, full-service brands in the Hilton Family of Hotels, today introduced a unique prototype of hotel rooms in the fast growing business centre of Huaqiao, China. Located 15 km from Kunshan and 30 km from the city centre of Shanghai, the Doubletree by Hilton Huaqiao/Kunshan is a 398-room, 5-star hotel that will welcome the world’s travelers later this fall. Known as a brand for its unique approach to customer care and service, the guest room prototype has been designed to showcase how this first East China Doubletree by Hilton hotel is striving to create a luxurious, contemporary hotel experience. “Another main purpose of the hotel guest room prototype project was to welcome feedback from corporate and leisure travelers during the development process. That way, we can ensure that when we open our final hotel product at the Doubletree by Hilton Huaqiao/Kunshan, we can meet or exceed the expectations of today’s travelers,” said John Burger, hotel general manager.

The Doubletree by Hilton, which will be located at the Huaqiao International Business Park in Kunshan will represent the second hotel opening by the brand in China this year. The Doubletree by Hilton Beijing is now open and three additional Doubletree by Hilton hotels in China currently under development. The 24-story hotel will feature more than 2,500-square-meters of meeting and banquet space with state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment, an open-air, lushly landscaped roof-top garden, a heated indoor swimming pool, a Doubletree Fitness by Precor facility, and multiple dining and gathering options including a signature Si Yuan Chinese restaurant featuring 15 private dining rooms.

As one of the brand’s first hotels in Asia, general manager John Burger explains the unique approach they are taking to ensure that the design team carefully thinks through all details of what’s important to the local business traveller: “Our objective was to create a series of rooms that we could show to consumers through focus groups. Each new room we designed incorporated a little more direct insight from what our customers told us they are looking for in comfort and convenience. The final room prototype is a direct replica of what you will see when the hotel is complete. At that time, we hope that the attention and investment we spent building this prototype environment for the Doubletree by Hilton Huaqiao-Kunshan will result in a great experience that is truly appreciated by our future hotel guests.”
