A penny stock message board is not where you should go to select penny stock picks. While investigating topics to discuss in my penny stock articles, I discovered a rather unsettling phenomenon: people everywhere are seeking online public communities in the form of penny stock message boards to gain wisdom and advice and share their ideas.

The Internet is a powerful tool, but it is also fraught with peril. The micro cap stock trading field in particular is infamous for billions of dollars of fraud every year. Penny stocks have been one of biggest headaches for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for over a decade. Unfortunately, the proliferation of online trading and online communities has only made the SEC’s micro cap stock fraud headache even worse.

If you find a penny stock message board with any real level of activity on it, you can guarantee unscrupulous brokers have infiltrated the community posing as convincingly legitimate members to pass on “advice” to doe-eyed newbies seeking a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Remember, this is a competitive industry and as warm and rosy as it may seem to imagine good-hearted altruists passing along secret top penny stock picks to the less savvy, it just isn’t happening. In most cases, they’re probably trying to use subtle hype to orchestrate a pump and dump scheme. In rare cases, they may even be trying to lure your business to snag you in a chop stock scheme.

A pump and dump scheme involves hyping a stock to get a bunch of less-than-savvy traders to buy up a ton of the stock in a short period. There is no more fertile ground to find a ripe grove of growing newbie traders than a penny stock message board.

As those traders buy the stock, the demand raises the value of the stock. When the brokers spreading the artificial hype believe the stock has reached its artificial peak, they dump it by selling it off fast. The stock then nose dives before the newbies can sell it off.

Remember that nano cap stocks usually aren’t very liquid, so it can be slow and difficult process to sell a large batch of penny stocks, especially if they’re plunging in value.

If you spend any time researching stock trading on the Internet, you are bound to come across the hype and exhilaration of buying penny stocks. Buying penny stocks involves stock trading with shares that are valued under $5. Some technically define a penny stock as a microcap stock which trades for less than five dollars. A microcap stock is a corporate share which has a market capitalization of under 250 million dollars.

Before you become too excited about the hype involved with buying penny stocks, you need to understand why this hype persists: fraud. Long before the Internet, penny stocks were ripe with fraud and the Internet has only made the propagation of such fraud more widespread and persuasive.

Penny stocks are particularly susceptible to scams because they are traded on over-the-counter (OTC) exchanges like the OTCBB (Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board) and Pink Sheets. These exchanges do not exercise the same restrictions as the major exchanges like the NASDAQ and NYSE (New York Stock Exchange). Additionally, these quotation services do not require the share poster to provide as much detail on the stock, so you often do not have the same level of data as you’re provided by default on a major exchange.

Furthermore, the companies traded as penny stocks tend to be much newer and smaller entities. This means it is more difficult to find and validated substantial data on the corporate structure, history and road map forward.

There are a number of different scams oriented around exploiting inexperienced stock investors. These scammers prey on these new investors because they are easily fooled into thinking a stock called a “penny” stock somehow involves less risk. Unfortunately, it is just the opposite.

From the pump and dump to the chop stock, these scams have been refined for decades, and even though they have existed for a long time, they still work. So next time you see a ton of hype about making a lot of money fast with microcap stocks, you should really exercise a healthy amount of skepticism before you act.

Microcap Millionaires: Get Our Latest Penny Stock Picks Here

I had an instructor for my financial risk management course tell me more about this stock and I have been patiently waiting for BAJ to make a comeback.

The current trade plan would be to wait for a pull back.  We don’t see it pulling back too far with the markets potentially turning bullish.  But an entry price as low the 0.60$ as possible would be ideal as we believe that price will soon be retesting 0.90.  Perhaps as soon as September.

Pincher formations are usually very reliable, and the stocksthat are pinching right now will bounce…but it could be a whilelonger with more downside to boot. The”trade ideas” are meant to fill the void between the picks bygetting in and out of liquid stocks quickly. I spotted a great lookingdownside trade to play offof market bearishness: MM Trade Idea: Short SCSS SCSS Chart *Strategy: Short sell shares around 8.50and look to cover in the next 1-3 days. Liquidity is good on this stock. If it rallies over $9 I will cover. Note: You can short this through Zecco, (I just did so myself)just select “short” as your order type, enteryour quantity/symbol, “market” as your ordertype and it should go through. If you wish you can try to get a specific shortentry by using a limit order. ======================= Not an ETF trade here but I see a lot ofdownside on this stock. Lastly note that “in theory” shorting is riskier thangoing long on a stock…since “in theory” the stockcould keep going up. Enjoy the downside.

Looks to be time to close out ourshort position in SCSS. It is at a supportlevel which is the 200 day moving averageand we have decent profits from our entrylast week around 8.50. ROIAK opened a little lowerthis morning but is still looking goodto keep moving up. The thing to watch for will be overallmarket bullishness/bearishness next week.Earnings start next week so it should be a sharpmove up or down. The recent decline in ROIAK was not due to bad newsspecific to the company. The selling was mainly due tobearish market conditions in small cap stocks.
